The Dedeaux Download podcast, part of the Peristyle Podcast family of shows, returns with the 2024 college baseball season starting this week. Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith return to preview what USC baseball is going to look like on the mound in Year 2 under the leadership of pitching coach and Trojans' legend Seth Etherton. After previewing the season's challenges and the team's hitting the last two weeks, the podcasting duo turn their focus to the sacred circle that is the pitcher's mound to dive into what the Trojans have on the pitching side. Similar to the offensive side, USC has a lot more options this season as the coaching staff has been able to build the depth of the squad. Shotgun and Jack also supply superlatives for the Trojan pitchers, giving their picks for the team's best pitcher, most impactful newcomer and breakout candidates among others. That all comes after Shotgun and Jack talk with USC pitching coach Seth Etherton about his group, which includes several experienced returners and simultaneously several exciting newcomers. Etherton discusses who he's most intrigued by and who could be poised for a breakout campaign. He also chats about the impact of having three starters returning and where each of those three -- Caden Aoki, Tyler Stromsborg and Eric Hammond -- have all improved their games. Among other players that are brought up, Etherton talks about the the impact CSUN transfer Xavier Martinez could have as a swing pitcher capable of filling a variety of roles on the staff and how freshman lefty Mason Edwards has pushed his way into potentially starting in the midweek. Amelia Etherton, a freelance editor and writer living in Ireland, bravely reached out to me with a request that I have more older (personally, I prefer venerable) ADHD women on the show who can speak to the specific type of grief that comes with a later-in-life diagnosis and all of the ‘what-if's that come with it. Amelia herself was recently diagnosed with inattentive ADHD at 57, so I thought, who better to speak on this topic than her? Amelia's diagnosis brought with it an almost overwhelming sense of grief over how hard it was to bring up her kids mostly alone without knowing they were all neurodivergent, but it also gave her a newfound feeling of hope and self-understanding that has been life-changing. She wants other late-diagnosed ADHD women to see that it's possible to move beyond the grief of what could have been and to embrace your unique brains in order to truly enjoy the time you have left, and I'm delighted to share her message of hope with you this episode. Your Parenting Mojo - Respectful, research-based parenting ideas to help kids thrive
We've already covered a couple of episodes on sleep, including the https://yourparentingmojo.com/captivate-podcast/sleep/ (cultural issues associated with sleep), then more recently we talked with https://yourparentingmojo.com/captivate-podcast/restedchild (Dr. Chris Winter about his book The Rested Child) where we looked at sleep issues in older children. But if you have a young child who isn't sleeping well, from the baby stage all the way up to about preschool, this episode is for you! My guest is Macall Gordon, senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Antioch University Seattle, and who has studied young children's sleep for 20 years. She's particularly interested in the intersection between children's temperament and their sleep, and how parents of the children she calls 'little livewires' can support these children so everyone gets more sleep. If you have questions about sleep training - particularly when and how to do it - this episode is for you! And if you're expecting a baby or have one under the age of one (whether this is your first or not!) you might be interested in the Right From The Start course, which is designed to help you get things right for you from the start. We go in-depth on understanding topics like sleep, feeding, physical, mental, and emotional development, and more - both for baby and for you! Today's "Too Sense" segment is about Dennis Schroder and the mistake he made by not taking 4 years and $84 Million from the Lakers before hitting Free Agency:- Sometimes you get bad advice or have a lack of self awareness to know your worth... Dennis Schroder, former point guard for the Lakers, turned down a huge extension during the season last year. He wanted to bet on himself and hit the market this offseason. Well, it turned out that no one was lining up for him to sign the $120 million contract that he thought he was worth... Dennis recently signed for a measly 1 year deal, worth $5.9 Million. These things happen I guess. I discuss this and also the deserving Max Extensions for Luka Doncic and Trae Young.- Lots of new video content @tootallsportspodcast on Instagram. New videos every day!Today's Interview: Seth EthertonSeth and I have a lot in common. We both went to the same high school in Orange County. We are both pitchers and both played professionally. But that's where the comparisons stop haha! Seth went on to become the, then, Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year in 1998 at USC, help them win the College World Series, and become a 1st Round Draft Pick all in the same summer!Seth played for the Angels in the big leagues right before the won the World Series in 2002. We discuss the business of baseball as he was traded in 2001 to the Cincinnati Reds. He battled through injuries and bounced around after that before becoming the pitcher coach at the University of San Francisco for a few years. He is now the pitching coach in Triple-A for the Louisville Bats, the affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. We discuss it all, including how he and his pitching staff handles the crack down of "sticky stuff" from Major League Baseball...That and much more on the Too Tall Sports Podcast today.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a sponsor!!!Want the best sports betting picks texted directly to your phone every day?I have the answer and it's Vegas Sports Advantage.A proud sponsor of the Too Tall Sports PodcastLink Here:https://www.vegassportsadvantage.com?ref=tootall25% OFF Your favorite Sports Picks Package by using the link above or using thePROMO CODE: TOOTALL--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Follow Me and SUBSCRIBE, LIKE and COMMENT on the Too Tall Sports Podcast:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOT1dawh_079qckq7OmFHAQInstagram: @tootallsportspodcastTwitter: @TooTallSportsFacebook Group: TooTallSportsPodcastApple Podcasts: Too Tall Sports PodcastSpotify: Too Tall Sports Podcasthttps://www.diamantenetwork.com/network/brettlorinPandora: https://www.pandora.com/podcast/too-tall-sports-podcast/PC:52128https://www.vegassportsadvantage.com?ref=tootallEmail: tootallsportspodcast@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/TooTallSportsPodcast25% OFF with Promo Code: TOOTALL This podcast is brought to you by Vegas Sports Advantage. Our feature today is not in the theater but it is in the gallery realm. It is about Terry Etherton and the Etherton Gallery, which has been a staple of the downtown and urban core for about 40 years. Terry Etherton started his photography gallery at a place on 6, just off of Fourth Avenue. After about seven years, moved into downtown and he's been in the same location ever since. We found out he was moving and we wanted to catch up with him to find out a little bit about his history and where we can find him once he has relocated.

With their live performances cancelled, members of Mosaic Voices (New West End Synagogue’s resident choir) have been working hard to continue to bring you their unique music. Released earlier during the pandemic are four music videos written and recorded at various stages of the lockdown, featuring Yiddish lullaby ‘Rozhinkes mit Mandlen’, an ‘Over the Rainbow' rendition of the hymn ‘Adon Olam’, a lively ‘Yism'chu’, and a musical setting of Psalm 23 (The Lord is My Shepherd). All pieces were either composed or arranged by Benjamin Till, composer in residence. Whether they are arranged for singing a capella or with instrumental accompaniment, they all have in common just a small ensemble of voices. The group's founder and musical director, Michael Etherton, spoke to JR's arts editor Judi Herman about the making of these beautiful, inspiring and life enhancing musical films.Since they spoke, Mosaic Voices have released more videos, including 'Shomer Yisrael' ('Guardian of Israel'), 'Avinu Malkeinu' ('Our Father, Our King') and 'Feed the Birds', from Mary Poppins. All videos are available to watch on their YouTube channel.

Abstract: Acute ischemic stroke affects men and women differently in many ways. In particular, women are oftentimes reported to experience a higher acute stroke severity than men. Here, we derived a low-dimensional representation of anatomical stroke lesions and designed a sex-aware Bayesian hierarchical modelling framework for a large-scale, well phenotyped stroke cohort. This framework was tailored to carefully estimate possible sex differences in lesion patterns explaining acute stroke severity (NIHSS) in 1,058 patients (39% female). Anatomical regions known to subserve motor and language functions emerged as relevant regions for both men and women. Female patients, however, presented a more widespread pattern of stroke severity-relevant lesions than male patients. Furthermore, particularly lesions in the posterior circulation of the left hemisphere underlay a higher stroke severity exclusively in women. These sex-sensitive lesion pattern effects could be discovered and subsequently robustly replicated in two large independent, multisite lesion datasets. The constellation of findings has several important conceptual and clinical implications: 1) suggesting sex-specific functional cerebral asymmetries, and 2) motivating a sex-stratified approach to management of acute ischemic stroke. To go beyond sex-averaged stroke research, future studies should explicitly test whether acute therapies administered on the basis of sex-specific cutoff volumes of salvageable tissue will lead to improved outcomes in women after acute ischemic stroke. What actually happened to Breonna Taylor? And who is this Jake Gardner? Well, both people died in tragic ways but the difference is in the details, which you have likely yet been presented by the media. Here are the facts, they lead to the truth. Enjoy! Thanks for listening and if you want to support us in our mission to bring truth to the masses, to support our police but also our communities across the nation who are hurting, please find us, police academy podcast, on Patreon and become a member for as little as $1 a week.SHOW NOTES:Details:Taylor, 26, an emergency medical worker, was shot five times by the officers after they entered her home during a drug investigation on March 13.Police had obtained warrants for multiple locations linked to Jamarcus Glover, an alleged crack cocaine dealer. One of them included Taylor’s apartment, where she lived with her younger sister. Law enforcement believed Glover was using Taylor’s apartment as his current address and had been receiving mail and packages there. No drugs foundThis is irrelevantThe judge who signed the warrant agreed there was sufficient evidence to search the residence. This is not no the police.Glover was already in custody. The warrant was for evidence, not Glover.Taylor and her boyfriend (Kenneth Walker) we in bed watching a movie.Police knock and announce“Our intent was to give her give plenty of time to come to the door because they said she was probably there alone,” said Mattingly, who was one of the three officers who discharged their weapons inside Taylor’s home.“The Louisville police officers involved in Breonna Taylor’s shooting death ‘knocked and announced’ themselves — and did not execute a ‘no-knock warrant’ as previously believed, Kentucky’s attorney general said Wednesday,” per the New York Post. “At a press conference, AG Daniel Cameron said a neighbor corroborated cops’ claims that they knocked on Taylor’s apartment door and announced themselves as police in the early hours of March 13.”They walk down hallway toward door, gun in Walker’s hand.Police breachWalker shot Mattingly in the leg, severing his femoral artery.Says he though they were intrudersThree cops returned fire, shooting more than 20 rounds into Taylor’s apartment. Two officers involved in the shooting, Sgt. John Mattingly and Det. Myles Cosgrove, were not charged, despite FBI ballistics evidence showing that Cosgrove fired the bullet that ultimately killed Breonna Taylor. Cameron noted that, based on the evidence, Walker, not Cosgrove, fired first, setting off a tragic chain of events.“Our investigation found that Mattingly and Cosgrove were justified in their use of force after having been fired on by Kenneth Walker,”Hankinson fired for "blindly" firing 10 rounds into Taylor's apartmentOn September 23, 2020, a state grand jury indicted Hankison on three counts of wanton endangerment“A person is guilty of wanton endangerment in the first degree when, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, he wantonly engages in conduct which creates a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to another person,” the statute reads. This relates to the people in the adjacent apartment“A neighbor filed a lawsuit against the officers involved in the raid. The lawsuit claims, among other things, that a man was nearly shot, that law enforcement "spray[ed] gunfire into Chelsey Napper's apartment with a total disregard for the value of human life" and "A bullet that was shot from the defendant police officers' gun flew inches past Cody Etherton's head while he was in the hallway of Chelsey Napper's apartment". The man is unidentified; Napper is understood to be a pregnant woman and Etherton is understood to be a child.Shots:5 through a windowAt least 5 through sliding glass doorShit ton of casings outside door and in parking lotJake Gardner: Omaha Bar ownerwreck-less driving and 3rd degree assaultCCW charge was droppedJames Scurlock: guy who attacked bar ownerarrested for robbery and use of a firearm to commit a felony during a HOME INVASION where a group of black males entered the location and threatened four residents with handguns.Scurlock's charges were later amended to burglary, moving from a Class 2 to a Class 3 felony, and he was sentenced to 3-5 years in prison beginning Sept. 22nd, 2015. Scurlock served less than a year of his sentence, being released on Aug. 12th of 2016. Scurlock was also found guilty of assault and battery charges in January of 2019, for which he served one day in jail. Additionally, Scurlock plead guilty to third degree domestic assault this past February, serving a 90-day jail sentence.DA’s Statement:“I certainly understand the pain that has been brought about by the tragic loss of Ms. Taylor,” he said. “I understand that as a Black man — how painful this is, which is why it was so incredibly important to make sure that we did everything we possibly could to uncover every fact.”“Our reaction to the truth is the society we want to be,” Cameron continued. “Do we really want the truth? Or do we want a truth that fits our narrative? Do we want the facts? Are we content to blindly accept our own version of events? We, as a community, must make this decision.”“There will be celebrities, influencers, and activists who having never lived in Kentucky, will try to tell us how to feel, suggesting they understood the facts of this case and that they know our community and the commonwealth better than we do,” he concluded. “They don’t.”Do we want the truth? Or do we just want to feel justified in our childish emotional tantrums? The mainstream media keeps telling us, “it’s ok, you should be angry, the whole system is out to get you. Go ahead, smash some windows, throw a few bricks at the cops, (whisper) maybe even shoot a few. Takeaways Observe the Actions of Others: You may not have the confidence or even opportunity to approach others to ask them about how or why they do what they do, but you can definitely observe their actions. Break down how they speak, how they hold themselves, how they treat customers, and what they do that’s different than you. And these don’t have to just be people in your office. With unfiltered broadband access, these observations can be people you admire online, TED speakers, or even public CEOs by way of their earnings calls and annual reports. Find Gaps in Your Own Skills: It’s hard for people to just tell you everything they know with general questions like “how can I get better?” As you think about the next step in your career, write down the traits or responsibilities you think that role would entail. Then take a good look at your performance and see where you can improve and ask specific questions. In addition, you must be willing to hear and accept their feedback. You may not agree with it, but if you get defensive or act like you know it all, well, that's a surefire way to damage the relationship. Be Transparent: Ready for a truth bomb? No one has all the answers. When you don’t know something, be honest about it. Whether it’s with a coworker, a leader, or even your prospects. Yes, I’ve heard the mantra, “fake it until you make it,” but I’ve found that having a genuine level of vulnerability and mixing that with an insatiable appetite for curiosity leads to the right coaching, quicker career progress, and better relationships. This is the first in a series of interviews with people. This one is raw, uncut and unedited. It's with my beautiful 'Earth Father' Roy. Earth family was a term I invented to describe my relationship with those people in my life who were my heroes but not related to me biologically. My bond with this man surpassed all others. Roy knew my father and grandmother before I was born. When I went to live with my grandmother Uncle Roy (along with his wife Rhona) helped her to raise me. I spent most of my time with them and he taught me how to ride horses. He was my hero. The year he turned 90 I asked if I could record interviews with him. This was the first one of those sessions. During this interview he shares; How his parents met Early years The impact of the Depression Farming life The breakout of the war Rottnest Island 2 years with little sleep His role in the war in New Guinea and New Britian Horses I hope you enjoy listening to him share as much as I did. My name is Sherry and I have always been curious about people. As an 18 year old I worked as a journalist at our small country newspaper. I loved hearing peoples stories and sharing them with the world. I went on to study Psychology, Gender Studies, Sexology and NLP. These days I spend my time helping people to start their own business and running workshops and retreats for personal development. If you'd like to know more about me please or know someone who has a great story you think should be shared please get in touch through my website.

On April 4, 2016, the Supreme Court decided Woods v. Etherton without oral argument. -- Timothy Etherton was convicted in Michigan state court of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and the conviction was affirmed on direct appeal. His efforts to obtain post-conviction relief in state court--which related to his lawyer’s failure to raise a Confrontation Clause objection to the admission into evidence of the anonymous tip that led to his arrest--were rejected. A federal district court also rejected Etherton’s subsequent attempt to obtain federal habeas relief, but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit reversed that judgment. Etherton’s appellate counsel had been constitutionally ineffective, the Sixth Circuit concluded, and no fairminded jurist could conclude otherwise. -- By a vote of 8-0, the Supreme Court reversed the judgment of the Sixth Circuit in a per curiam opinion issued without oral argument. Without reaching the Sixth Circuit’s holding that counsel had been constitutionally ineffective, the Supreme Court indicated that the Sixth Circuit had failed to apply the appropriate, deferential standard of review required under the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act. With that in mind the Supreme Court explained, it would not be objectively unreasonable for a fair-minded judge to conclude that counsel’s failure to raise a Confrontation Clause objection to admission of the anonymous tip was due not to incompetence, but because the facts in the tip were uncontested and in any event consistent with Etherton’s defense. -- To discuss the case, we have Ronald Eisenberg, who is Deputy District Attorney, Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
