In this Special Thursday episode of A Table in the Corner, Russel sits down with brother and sister team Danillo and Chiara Turilli, the operators behind Lello's Deli, to talk about inheritance, identity and building something deeply personal in a city that is moving as quickly as Cape Town is right now.Raised within a family restaurant business run by their father, the Turillis describe themselves as restaurant babies who tried, unsuccessfully, to escape hospitality. Danillo left for fashion photography in Hamburg. Chiara moved into food styling and corporate work. Yet both found themselves drawn back to the rhythms of service, family recipes and the particular weight of Italian food culture. The conversation traces the evolution from Scarpetta, their father's final and most personal restaurant, to Lello's original De Waterkant deli and now its move to Sea Point. We talk about counter service in a culture that resists it, charging properly for ingredients whose price reflects their authenticity, and refusing to dilute tradition for comfort. Mortadella is the real thing. Amatriciana is made with guanciale. Coffee is served the Italian way. They speak candidly about legacy, grief and closing their father's restaurant after his passing, choosing instead to carry forward the parts that mattered to them. There is no master plan here, only instinct shaped by upbringing: seasonal tomatoes jarred for winter, pizza al taglio sold by weight, pasta made the way their family remembers it.This is a conversation about diaspora, stubbornness and the responsibility of doing things properly, told by two operators who understand that authenticity is not a marketing position but a lived inheritance.Thumbnail image by Soh BangContact me with thoughts or suggestions for the show on russel@rwm2012.com www.rwm2012.com On Instagram @a_table_inthecorner Cover image sketched by Courtney Cara Lawson All profile portraits by Russel Wasserfall unless otherwise credited Title music: 'In Time' by Olexy via Pixabay
STANDARSEMANAL.-God Bless The Child.-VINILOS MITICOS DEL JAZZ.-Count Basie-Basie Jam-.-JAZZACTUALIDAD.-KARLES PEREZ-SCARPETTA Título: Basie Jam. Músico: Count Basie. Acompañantes: Louie Bellson (dm); Ray Brown (b); J.J. Johnson (tb); Irving Ashby (g), Eddie «Lockjaw» Davis & Zoot Sims (st) y Harry Edison (tp). Fecha de Grabación: 1973. 10 de Diciembre. Lugar de Grabación: New York. Sello Discográfico: Pablo Records. Nº de temas: 5. Formato: LP. Instrumento: Piano y líder. Estilo: Swing. It was a lot of fun having Scott in the studio to talk about his time coming up in New York City restaurants and why he decided to launch a food company, Martone Street, and compete for attention on the highly competitive tomato sauce shelf.
Jamie Lee Curtis has a career in show business spanning nearly 50 years, but she's currently having the most creatively fulfilling time of her life. Not only is she just a few years removed from winning an Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once and then an Emmy for The Bear, she's also putting her energy into production and development, whether it's Freakier Friday or the upcoming Patricia Cornwell crime drama Scarpetta or the new film The Lost Bus. Jamie Lee and Marc talk about her very hazy memories of youth, her sobriety, her dislike of rehearsals, and the reason she never reads the comments. Hosted on Acast. In this episode, Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey returns to the Vint Wine Podcast for a wide-ranging conversation on the art of hospitality, the evolving role of the sommelier, and the deep connections forged through thoughtful service. From his early days bussing tables after being expelled from school, to building one of America's most respected restaurant groups, Bobby shares the personal philosophy that guides his work on the floor, in the cellar, and as a leader. We explore what defines a great sommelier, the enduring importance of humility and guest-focused service, and why social media influence is no substitute for decades of commitment. Bobby also reflects on the continued growth of Frasca Hospitality Group, the complexities of operating in a luxury hotel setting, and the expansion of his Scarpetta wine label in Friuli, Italy. Along the way, he shares stories that reveal why graduation dinners and post-surgery guests in Vail can be as instructive as any textbook on hospitality. This episode is essential listening for those passionate about wine, committed to service, or building something with lasting impact.

Best-selling crime writer Patricia Cornwell discusses writing, true crime, and her latest book in the Scarpetta series, Identity Unknown.
Welcome back to the Finding the Throughline interview with Laura Belgray, author of the national bestseller Tough Titties, a collection of essays that is essentially a permission slip to be a dork, a sometimes-unspiritual slacker, a late bloomer and, ultimately, unapologetically you. Laura is the founder of Talking Shrimp and co-creator of The Copy Cure with Marie Forleo. She has been featured in Elle, Fast Company, and Business Insider, and has written for Bravo, HBO, Nick at Nite, VH1, and more. Today, we find out what's currently brewing for Laura and what she knows at this moment about where her personal throughline is leading her next, as well as what kinds of things she's been reading, watching and listening to lately We covered: • Crawling out of a pit of despair after the election results • Continuing to build her email list in the modern world where there are so many more things vying for our attention • How she is not a visionary or planner—yet has achieved many amazing things anyway • David Sedaris as the author who first introduced her to a genre/structure of book that is a collection of essays and also memoir. • Her love of fiction and lack of confidence she will be able to write one someday, though she would love to • How she would love to win Powerball so she could write whatever she wants • How she wouldn't have written a fraction of what she'd written if she didn't write as a way to eat and make money • Margot's Got Money Troubles by Rufy Thorpe--the last book that she could not put down. • Spaghettini pomodoro at Scarpetta, with plenty of extra butter Connect with Laura at talkingshrimp.com. No. 1 New York Times Bestselling author PATRICIA CORNWELL returns to BOOKSTORM Podcast to discuss IDENTITY UNKNOWN, her newest novel in the blockbuster Dr. Kay Scarpetta novels! This amazing series is about to launch on Amazon with an outstanding cast, including: Nicole Kidman (as Kay), Jamie Lee Curtis (Kay's sister, Dorothy), and Bobby Cannavale (as former detective Pete Marino)! Before she wrote, Patricia asked herself what makes her wonder ... and then she enthralled us with her plot about unnatural phenomena and our present reality. We asked her about the importance of the heart-felt, heart-broken and heart-healing relationships that she weaves into these characters. Is love a mystery all its own? We discussed the otherworldly things happening in the background of this story, including "the others." Is the evil we know -- ourselves -- the one that should concern us the most? Patricia address AI and our constantly evolving technologies, especially in forensics. And of course we talked about the victim: the brilliant Sal Dante Giordano. He was an Italian astrophysicist and inventor ... and Dr. Kay Scarpetta's lifelong friend. He evokes the Renaissance polymaths of the past. We went as deep as we went high into the cosmos! You can find more of your favorite bestselling authors at BOOKSTORM Podcast! We're also on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube!
