Are UAPs real? Is an extraterrestrial sighting even possible on Earth? What are the scientific explanations for alien sightings? Is a human-like civilization possible on another planet? Astronomer and astrophysicist Adam Frank (author of Little Book of Aliens) joins Mayim and Jonathan for an MBB Explores to discuss the scientific possibilities of aliens, UFOs, and why we all need to be more excited about what recent technological advances are enabling us to discover in space. Adam Frank discusses his feelings on the government reports on Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (UAPs), his and fellow scientists' analysis of UFO videos, and why SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) took so long to be funded and taken seriously. Find out the staggering percentage of planets that likely hold potential for intelligent life and why we all feel such wonder looking at the stars. Plus, Adam Frank discusses his time consulting on Marvel's “Dr. Strange” and his feelings on the possibility of a metaverse in real life. You don't want to miss this mind-blowing exploration of what space has to offer! Check out Adam Frank's website to learn more about his books & research: https://www.adamfrankscience.com/ BialikBreakdown.comYouTube.com/mayimbialik

Why not buy a board game from our sponsors Kienda: kienda.co.uk/polyhedroncollider Warning: This podcast contains strong language and adult content  In this episode of the Polyhedron Collider Cast, the team dives into a mix of science, board games, and digital adventures. We kick things off with a discussion on SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, exploring the latest big board game from CGE searching the solar system for extraterrestrial intelligence. Shifting gears, we tackle Slay the Spire: The Board Game, a card game translation of the beloved deck-building roguelike, breaking down its strategic depth, replayability, and asking the question what it offers over its digital lineage.   The conversation then moves to Perch a cute but ruthless area control game about flocking birds, and House of Fado, a Gallerist inspired game of enticing punters to your restaurant and promoting musicians. In episode 23, we review SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence by Czech Games Edition (CGE.) To start off the episode, we chat about the games that are bringing us joy: Cities, Creature Caravan, Viticulture Essential Edition, and Star Tycoon. In SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, scientific institutions set their sights beyond planet Earth in the search for extraterrestrial life. Through landing on planets, scanning distant star systems for signals, and analyzing collected data, players will detect traces of life and eventually discover an alien species. Conduct further research into the alien species, effectively utilize your resources (including multi-use cards - one of our favorite aspects of SETI!), and accomplish milestones to establish your institution as the one to make the most significant contributions to understanding alien life within our galaxy. Another visually stunning game by CGE! We've had some interesting plays of this game, and we're looking forward to more.  And it's not beige! @ https://lnk.bio/BoardGameHomies

What if there are intelligent lifeforms elsewhere in the universe? And what if all we need to do to find them is to listen to the right radio frequency at the right time? That's what the scientists of SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) have been working on for decades. And that research got the Hollywood Glow-Up back in 1997 with Contact, starring Jodie Foster as SETI researcher Dr. Ellie Arroway. Listen to 70 Future Now Transcript of 70 Future Now It’s Summertime and living is fun, unless you are on a deep space mission.  Turns out our kidneys are particularly sensitive to radiation in space, failing after only two years..oh no, what now? Any solutions? We think so! Harvard Cryptoterrestrial GradAnd finally, top academics are suggesting to their brethren that now is the time to consider more expanded concepts of the alien presence.  Ideas like advanced reptilians living underground, staying invisible to the likes of us, transdimensional beings moving through space and time in unusual ways,  ships that enter the earth through volcanoes, the ‘other’ intermingling and living with us for generations, doing who knows what to our minds. Science Fiction or Fact? At least such ideas are now being considered more seriously, or at least sincerely.  Time sensitive this week is a sacred whale cruise in the Monterey Bay, hosted by Michele Newman, a psychic, healer, shamanness, and player of the crystal bowls.  Mrs. Future (Sun) beautifully interviews Michele about this upcoming cruise (Saturday June 22), and if you feel it’s time to connect with Whales in this way, here’s an “Opportunity Knocks” card! :-) Our big AI story this week is about applying the rigorous scientific methods used by SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence (to investatigating and evaluating) the growing intelligence of the AIs. Not a perfect match, but lots of cross pollenation here! And we end with callers, including “Master Now” who answers the question of the hour, “Which came first in the timeline, Love or Fun?”   Enjoy!!

Jodie Foster stars as scientist Ellie Arroway, who has dedicated her life to searching for possible intelligent lifeforms outside of Earth and our solar system.  An orphan from an early age, her faith in God has wavered since the days of trying to futilely contact her mother in heaven through the radio, replaced by a firm belief in science and facts as the pinnacle of what's true and right. While her faith that we are not alone in the universe is unwavering, as a scientist, she won't rest until she has absolute proof. Scanning the skies for radio waves of intelligent extraterrestrial origin, she and her team at SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) wait diligently for a message.  That day finally arrives when they pick up a repeating signal emanating from Vega, a star system 26 light-years away.   As the scientists work diligently to try to decode the message, the Earth erupts in a series of science vs. religion debates on what this all means, and who should be the one who represents our interests should we come face to face with the originator of the message.

The SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute is, like late UFO investigator and nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman indicated, nothing more than a cult. The group for years has attempted to intercept signals from other intelligent lifeforms in the galaxy, but at the same time remains completely unconvinced that there is an extraterrestrial presence already here. Also, a hoaxer has been posting phony warning signs in Pennsylvania state parks - using state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources letterhead - that inform people to be wary of Bigfoot. Drift Rates of Narrowband Signals in Long-term SETI Observations for Exoplanets by Jian-Kang Li et al. on Thursday 13 October The Doppler shift of a radio signal is caused by the relative motion between the transmitter and receiver. The change in frequency of the signal over time is called drift rate. In the studies of radio SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence), extraterrestrial narrowband signals are expected to appear "chirped" since both the exoplanet and the Earth are moving. Such planet rotation and orbital revolution around the central star can cause a non-zero drift rate. Other relative motions between the transmitter and receiver, such as the gravitational redshift and galactic potential, are negligible. In this paper, we mainly consider the common cases that the drift rate is contributed by the rotations and orbits of the Earth and exoplanet in celestial mechanics perspective, and briefly discuss other cases different from the Earth-exoplanet one. We can obtain the expected pseudosinusoidal drifting result with long-term observations, shorter orbital periods of exoplanets. Exoplanets with higher orbital eccentricities can cause asymmetric drifting. The expected result should be intermittent pseudosinusoidal curves in long-term observations. The characteristics of pseudo-sinusoidal curves, as another new criterion for extraterrestrial signals, can be applied to long-term SETI reobservations in future research. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2208.02511v4

In 1957, the USSR launched Sputnik 1, the first human object to leave Earth. In the 65 years since then the region of Earth orbit has become filled with satellites and space junk. The proliferation of debris has led to the prediction of Kessler Syndrome, a state where a never-ending cascade of collisions between orbital objects renders parts of space unusable for human purposes. However, there are many different ways to look at the space junk surrounding Earth. For example, it is also an archaeological record of humanity's first steps into outer space, a cultural landscape created by the combined effects of natural and cultural processes, and a technological signature of the same kind that SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) researchers are looking for around exoplanets in other solar systems. It's unclear when or whether the tipping point into Kessler Syndrome might be reached, but if humanity is confined to Earth in the future, what will this mean? The technology on your desktop and in your pocket was invented by…well… people. On this episode, you're going to hear from one of them as he shares some fascinating stories from those times and reflects on the journey, family, health, and teaching. My guest on this episode is Dr. David Thornburg. David started his career as a research scientist and inventor at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center where he worked on a variety of projects, including his invention of the first inexpensive touch screen. In 1981 he left Xerox and worked for a bit at Atari before helping start a company to launch two of his hardware designs: the KoalaPad touch tablet and the Muppet Learning Keyboard made in conjunction with Jim Henson of Muppet fame. After that venture, Dr. Thornburg became a consultant with a focus on the role of technology in K-12 education and held adjunct teaching positions at Stanford University, College of Notre Dame (Belmont, CA), University of Sao Paulo, and Walden University. He has been on several advisory boards, including the education board of SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence), and has been an active participant in the International Space Development Conference. I first met David when I was hosting the Connected Classroom Conferences for K-12 Educators in the 1990s and very early 2000s. David was my keynote speaker at numerous conferences all over the United States and delighted audiences with his message of how technology can and will impact teaching in schools all over the country and the world. You should know that you are going to be hearing a founding member of the small group of people who invented what we now know as personal computers. All roads for the computers you use today on your desktop and in your pocket passed through the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center where David worked with the teams that built graphic (point and click) technology, touchpads, and the mouse. His discussion of these times is something I'm so delighted and honored to have recorded for this podcast. Get comfortable and prepare to sincerely enjoy hearing these stories from someone who was in the room, my friend, Dr. David Thornburg. Recommended Book:From the Campfire to the Holodeck

In Arecibo, Puerto Rico lies a great radio telescope. For 53 years, the Arecibo observatory had been the largest radio telescope on the planet, and was the largest operational radio telescope in the world for all but 10 months of its existence. Constructed in 1963, the impressively massive 305 meter (1000 foot) radio telescope helped stage significant advances in the astronomical sciences. Arecibo remained the prime telescope of the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) and METI (Messaging to Extraterrestrial Intelligence) projects, both initially formulated by NASA but later formed into a nonprofit organization. The Arecibo Observatory, without a doubt, is the most famous radio telescope on the planet, having been featured in popular novels like Contact by Carl Sagan (which is my favorite book, by the way) and in popular movies like Contact (again, by Carl Sagan, and again, also my favorite movie) and James Bond, and in popular TV shows like The X-Files. The Arecibo Observatory lives in fame for its astonishing contributions to the advancement of the astronomical sciences, but it appears that all great things come to an end. American fighter jets greet it and the alien scout crashlands up in the American backwoods in Wisconsin. Using DNA found in the hair in recent widow Jenny Hayden's photo album, he transforms himself into the likeness of Jenny's dead husband, a house painter named Scott (Jeff Bridges). Now, not-Scott must get to a rendezvous point at Meteor Crater, Arizona to get back to the mothership before he dies, but SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) and the FBI want him to experiment on.  The alien has no choice but to kidnap Jenny (Karen Allen) to assist him.  John Carpenter directs.

On this edition of Parallax Views, A.M. Gittlitz of the Antifada podcast joins us to discuss his new book I Want to Believe: Posadism, UFOs, and Apocalypse Communism (Pluto Press, 2020). For the uninitiated Posadamism is most popularly known as a strange online meme of a nihilistic and ironic bent that references communism, nuclear war, dolphins, and UFOs. If that sounds weird, well, the true story of J. Poasadas, the 20th century Argentinian communist from which the meme gets its name, is perhaps even more bizarre. It's a story of spies, lies, and, yes, communists UFO hunters that features appearances from historical figures from the controversial Argentian authoritarian leader Juan Perón to Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara. Even Leon Trotsky manages to show up in A.M.'s historical overview of J. Posadas' life and times! But why has this unusual, marginal figure within communist thought become a popular meme with alienated youths with far left-wing tendencies? A.M. tries to answer that in I Want to Believe as well and the answer may surprise. A group of astronomers is partnering with the Very Large Array (VLA), an observatory with 28 massive radio telescopes, to search the sky for traces of extraterrestrial life. During the last American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) conference, astronomers from an institute in California laid out a project that will increase efforts to explore possible life outside Earth. The SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute will work with the VLA observatory in New Mexico to do comprehensive surveys of the sky. The observatory will gather data and transfer it to a supercomputer, which will analyze it for signs of life outside Earth. According to Andrew Siemion, the director of the Berkeley SETI Research Center, partnering with a sophisticated facility such as the VLA can significantly help their study. The project will supplement current efforts in finding extraterrestrial civilizations, such as the Breakthrough Listen Initiative. This $100-million program, which is also led by Siemion, uses a wide range of high-tech equipment. While the study has yielded little success so far, Siemion believes that the endeavor should still be pursued. He said that humans are naturally inclined to make connections and explore the unknown. However, some people do not agree that humans should try to connect with extraterrestrial life. In 2010, renowned late physicist Stephen Hawking said that interacting with aliens might be dangerous because they might pose risks to life and resources on Earth.

Astronomer Jill Tarter is director of the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute's Center for SETI Research, and also holder of the Bernard M. Oliver Chair for SETI. She led Project Phoenix, a decade-long SETI scrutiny of about 750 nearby star systems, using telescopes in Australia, West Virginia and Puerto Rico. While no clearly extraterrestrial signal was found, this project was the most comprehensive targeted search for artificially generated cosmic signals ever undertaken. Tarter serves on the management board for the Allen Telescope Array, a massive instrument that will eventually include 350 antennas, and that has already increased the speed and the spectral range of the hunt for signals by orders of magnitude. With the 2009 TED Prize, Tarter launched SETILive, a citizen project that allowed volunteers to stream live data from the array and help with the search. Tarter's life work is chronicled in the book, Making Contact: Jill Tarter and the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. She's deeply committed to the education of future citizens and scientists. Beyond her scientific leadership at NASA and the SETI Institute, Tarter has been actively involved in developing curriculum for children. She was Principal Investigator for two curriculum development projects funded by NSF, NASA, and others. One project, the Life in the Universe series, created 6 science teaching guides for grades 3-9. The other project, Voyages Through Time, is an integrated high school science curriculum on the fundamental theme of evolution in six modules: Cosmic Evolution, Planetary Evolution, Origin of Life, Evolution of Life, Hominid Evolution and Evolution of Technology. She also created the TED-Ed lesson, "Calculating the Odds of Intelligent Alien Life." He is also the co-founder of Unistellar, a company that develops extremely high quality telescopes. To find out more, visit http://franckmarchis.com/ or https://unistellaroptics.com/. "We are a young technological intelligent civilization and we are like teenagers. We've only recently learned what we can do and how great life can be." To start off today, Konner and Franck chat about his origins, his studies of Io, the aversion of physical activity within academia, as well as the importance of branching out into other fields and travel for all of us. But around 30 minutes in, the guys begin talking about what all good discussions around astronomy eventually get to, which is aliens. They discuss some actual SETI findings, such as the staggering number of planets out there that could be harbouring life. We talk about the philosophy of alien life, how that might affect humanity, and finally, what it could be like if humanity became a space faring civilization.

UFOs Are Real, But Don't Assume They're Alien Spaceships Article Link: https://www.space.com/ufos-real-but-not-alien-spaceships.html UFOs are very real, as we have recently seen — but that doesn't mean E.T. has been violating our airspace. "UFO" refers to any flying object an observer cannot readily identify. And pilots with the U.S. Navy saw fast-moving UFOs repeatedly off the East Coast throughout 2014 and 2015, in one case apparently nearly colliding with one of the mysterious objects, The New York Times reported earlier this week. Former AATIP head Luis Elizondo, by the way, is involved with a new six-part series called "Unidentified: Inside America's UFO Investigation," which premieres tonight (May 31) on The History Channel. The Navy pilots said some UFOs reached hypersonic speeds without any detectable exhaust plumes, suggesting the possible involvement of super-advanced propulsion technology. Seth Shostak, a senior astronomer at the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute in Mountain View, California. He pointed out, for example, that the sightings occurred off the coast, as did a similar 2004 observation unveiled in conjunction with the December 2017 stories. (That previous sighting occurred near San Diego). So, while the odds may be long that any UFO witnessed to date was an extraterrestrial craft, it's far from crazy to suspect that intelligent aliens are out there somewhere (or at least were out there somewhere, at some point during the Milky Way's 13-billion-year history). Stanton Terry Friedman (July 29, 1934 – May 13, 2019)[1] was a nuclear physicist and professional ufologist who resided in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. He was the original civilian investigator of the Roswell incident. Friedman was the first civilian to document the site of the Roswell UFO incident,[5] and supported the hypothesis that it was a genuine crash of an extraterrestrial spacecraft.[6] In 1968 Friedman told a committee of the U.S. House of Representatives that the evidence suggests that Earth is being visited by intelligently controlled extraterrestrial vehicles.[7]Friedman also stated he believed that UFO sightings were consistent with magnetohydrodynamic propulsion. SETI Friedman stated strong views against SETI(Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) research. Friedman contested the implicit premise of SETI that there has been no extraterrestrial visitation of the planet, because it was his claim that SETI was seeking only signals, not extraterrestrial intelligence or beings. Friedman was outspoken in his articulation of positions and in his criticism of UFO debunkers, often stating he was not an "apologist ufologist". Personal life Friedman was married twice. He first married Susie Virginia Porter; he divorced her in April 1974 (California, Divorce Index, 1966-1984; Los Angeles April 1974). Here's the Truth Behind a NASA Document on Aliens Visiting Earth Article link: https://www.livescience.com/64237-nasa-aliens-fox-news.html Fox News published a startling article Monday (Dec. 3) with the headline "NASA scientist says Earth may have been visited by aliens." Unsurprisingly, that news rocketed around the web, with similar articles soon turning up in the New York Post, Russia Today and The Daily Wire. (Fox appears to have been the first major U.S. news source to run with the story.) These articles are based on a document on NASA's website by Silvano Colombano, a researcher at NASA's Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California. It really does argue that scientists should at least take seriously the notion that aliens may have visited planet Earth.  There's some nuance here. Colombano really does believe, as Fox News wrote, that aliens "may" have visited planet Earth. As in, it's theoretically possible that this has happened, not entirely impossible, and worth looking for evidence that it has.  "The context was a presentation delivered last spring at a meeting of the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute," he said. "The meeting was to get feedback from scientists as to future directions for the Institute's research program," Colombano said. Originally interrogated about 4 crimes committed in the region in the 1990s, the retired trucker confessed a total of 79 kidnappings across California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas over a period of 40 years. Mr. White confessed to using a mix of hallucinatory drugs containing LSD and PCP to subdue his victims, before approaching them and carrying them inside his truck to assault them. In order to confuse his victims even more, he had set up the inside of his truck to look like an operating room and would wear an alien costume. *Recurring Martian Streaks could be just sand rather than water A new study claims dark streaks often seen on the Sun facing slopes of Martian gullies and ravines could be caused by moving sand rather than melting sub-surface permafrost. The conclusions provide an alternative to previous speculation that the features – known as recurring slope lineae or RSLs – were caused by flowing meltwater from permafrost layers seeping out from the sides of gullies and ravines. *Could cosmic dust be transporting life between worlds? A new study suggests that life on Earth might have originated from biological particles brought to the planet in streams of cosmic dust particles. The findings would mean fast-moving flows of interplanetary dust that continually bombard Earth’s atmosphere could deliver tiny organisms from far-off worlds, or send Earth-based organisms to other planets, according to the research. *Listening for alien signals. Way back on August the 15th 1977 astronomers at Ohio State University’s Big Ear radio telescope supporting the SETI Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence picked up a strange and very strong narrow band radio signal coming from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius. Now a new campaign is underway to listen for alien signals – not from Sagittarius but from M-31 Andromeda. *NASA Launches NOAA Weather Satellite to Improve Forecasts The penultimate launch of a Delta II rocket has successfully placed the first of a new generation of advanced weather satellites into a Sun synchronous orbit. The Joint Polar Satellite System-1 or JPSS-1 blasted into deep black early morning skies from the Vandenberg Air Force base in California. *Maxus-9 provides a little microgravity The European Space Agency has launched a Maxus sounding rocket to see how microgravity effects microorganisms. The mission which blasted off from Sweden’s Esrange Space Center-- flew on a sub-orbital ballistic trajectory delivering its five onboard experiments to the edge of space. *The Science Report A new weapon in the fight against peanut allergies. Today's show offers the following feature: Extraterrestrial intelligence? (start time: 6:30): It’s mid-summer, a time when many of us like to spend leisurely time outside at night, gazing at the stars and planets, and asking the big existential questions, such as, Are we alone? Is there intelligent life waaay out there? Our guest today, science writer Sarah Scoles, has pondered these questions for several years. She discusses with hosts Susan Moran and Joel Parker her just-published biography, Making Contact: Jill Tarter and the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. Tarter, an astronomer, directed the Center for SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Research. Carl Sagan’s 1985 novel Contact" illustrates Tarter's astronomical work. In the 1997 movie Contact (stemming from Sagan's novel) actor Jodi Foster played a character  who was loosely based on Tarter. She was also a Project Scientist for NASA’s SETI program and has conducted a number of observational programs at radio observatories worldwide. Since funding for NASA’s SETI program was cut in 1993, she has worked to secure private funding so that SETI may continue to explore.    In this conversation with Point of Inquiry host Josh Zepps, Tarter discusses the possibility of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, how we go about looking for it, and why the search is so important to humanity. Zepps presses Tarter on the possible dangers of finding life outside our world, what it means to be alive in the first place, and the potential threats we face with artificial intelligence on our own planet.  Special note from the Center for Inquiry: This is Josh Zepp’s final episode of Point of Inquiry. It has been a privilege having Josh cohost the program for more than three years. He is inquisitive, bold, witty, and never afraid to ask hard questions and hold guests accountable for their views. His conversations on Point of Inquiry exemplify the spirit of free inquiry we seek to advance at the Center for Inquiry. We of course wish him nothing but success, and look forward to opportunities to work with him in the future. You can hear Josh on his political podcast, WeThePeople LIVE. Thank you, Josh! Astrobiologists and Ufologists are not typically seen together at the same BBQs. Why? Each argues that the other is not attending to the evidence. NASA’s Astrobiological Roadmap asks three research questions: What is the origin of life? Is there a second genesis of life? How will life expand from Earth to elsewhere? SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Life Institute) is listening for radio signals emitted from extra-solar civilizations. This is hard-nosed science. Yet, ufologists also believe they are employing scientific methods such as scrupulous investigation of sightings, hypnotic regression, statistical analysis, and such. Ufologists revere science. Why, then, is there tension if not outright hostility between the fields?  Ted Peters is the author of UFOs—God’s Chariots?, first published in 1977. Its penetrating cultural analysis of the UFO phenomenon remains definitive. He teaches systematic theology at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. He co-edits the journal, Theology and Science, at the Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences. He has recently served as consultant to NASA and SETI on astro-ethics. He is the author of GOD—The World’s Future (Fortress, rev. ed. 2000); Science, Theology and Ethics (Ashgate 2003); and co-author of A Theological and Scientific Commentary on Darwin’s Origin of Species (Abingdon 2009). I design analog / digital electronics; design computers, and I write software in assembler, 'C', Pascal, BASIC, 'C#', VHDL, etc. I've been investigating ET subjects seriously since 1992, which was fueled by the discovery that my Mother had been an ET abductee in 1965. During these past 17 years, I created a scientific investigative organization, "OSR", staffed it with 15 Ph.D. scientists, psychologists, mathematicians, physicists and award winning news journalists. Courting most of these people from the SETI community. I created a scientific ET search model, of which there are now two models recognized as authentic scientific search for ET: 1) SETI - Search for ET Intelligence, 2) SETV - Search for ET Visitation - my model. See my SETV doctrine website:http://www.setv.org I've designed and hosted numerous scientific field experiments where I 'invited' interactive contact with suspected ET objects, using CSETI style (Steven Greer's) contact protocols. In my later ET contact experiments I designed an experiment platform to acquire scientific grade contact data (no cameras). I used a Remote-Viewer platform 'operator' as PSI beacon to attract alien objects into my experiment-space. The first, the Life in the Universe series, created 6 science teaching guides for grades 3-9, which were published in the mid nineties. Her second project, Voyages Through Time, is an integrated high school science curriculum on the fundamental theme of evolution in six modules: Cosmic Evolution, Planetary Evolution, Origin of Life, Evolution of Life, Hominid Evolution and Evolution of Technology.  In this conversation with D.J. Grothe, Jill Tarter discusses the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe, why the search for it is important, the implications for religious belief of such a discovery, recent cuts in science funding, the emerging field of astrobiology, and the need for teaching evolution in the public schools, among other subjects. She also talks about the new Carl Sagan Center for the Study of Life in the Universe, which was announced earlier in the week. Also in this episode, Tom Flynn asks Did You Know? about the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence.
