Beth Stelling is a stand up comedian and tv writer based in Los Angeles, CA. Beth grew up in Dayton, Ohio before attending college and pursuing comedy and theatre in Chicago. After spending 4 years establishing herself in Chicago she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of a career in comedy. Since then she has built an incredible career for herself as a touring stand up comedian numerous appearances on major networks including full comedy specials on both HBO and Netflix. She also has an extensive list of acting roles under her belt as well as writing credits for numerous tv shows including Crashing, Strange Planet, and even Rick & Morty. Beth performed for the first time in Eau Claire, WI at The Plus on June 9th for Clear Water Comedy and was gracious enough to let me interview her backstage before her performance. In this episode we discuss California living, how her life changed after her comedy special on Netflix came out, learning from past mistakes, what it really looks like to write for tv shows, how she creates her comedy specials, what to expect when you see her perform live, and much more.

“I moved to New York fifteen years ago. Didn't really have much interest in drawing at that time—vaguely interested, but when I found Threadless, this whole community of artists on the internet who help each other and bounce ideas off each other, and it was a way to make money,” says Nathan Pyle. In many of the episodes in Dan Harmon's show Community, the character Abed is actually wearing a graphic tee from Threadless, a Chicago-based design company who crowdsource unique graphic tee shirt ideas. At the time, the company paid about $2,500 for beloved designs. “It took me a long time. I think I did 100 submissions, at least, before I got my first license. Before anyone purchased anything. But, in those 100 submissions, I was learning a lot, I was making friends. That was me creating, doing something at night, while I worked another job in the day.” Over time, Pyle learned more and more about designing. Eventually, this hobby helped pay about 20 percent of his income. Eventually, it completely took over and in 2021, Pyle teamed up with Dan Harmon to create Strange Planet for Apple TV. Want more? Deadpool 3 actor, writer, and producer Ryan Reynolds broke the internet on Monday revealing a first look of Hugh Jackman's yellow, comics-accurate Wolverine suit on the set of the upcoming movie. The yellow Wolverine suit has been referred to and joked about for years in other X-Men-related movies, but it seems it will finally be donned by Wolvie himself. And in more Deadpool 3 news, Jennifer Garner is set to return to her role of Elektra after nearly 20 years. Trailer Park! Ahsoka Star Wars released a two-minute trailer for Ahsoka the Disney+ show starring Rosario Dawson that drops next month. It will start with a two episode premiere which is becoming a trend for Star Wars, with mostly positive reaction from fans. Blue Beetle DC dropped its final trailer for Blue Beetle, releasing in theaters on August 18. The trailer shows an extended look at the Scarab AI that selects Jaime Reyes as its host and shows us more of the film's villain. Bob Marley: One Love Secret Invasion star Kingsley Ben-Adir who plays Gravick will play Reggae icon Bob Marley in the biopic, One Love, coming to theaters on January 12, 2024. Napoleon The first trailer for Ridley Scott's next epic war film, Napoleon, has debuted. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby and has a theatrical release date of November 22. The Nun The ninth film in The Conjuring franchise, The Nun 2, has a new trailer to horrify audiences. The film is set to premiere on September 8. Bestselling graphic novel and webcomic creator Nathan Pyle will see his creations come to life on AppleTV+ with the debut of Strange Planet in August. Rick and Morty and Community co-creator Dan Harmon serves as executive producer for the 10 episode adult animated series. Shang-Chi star Simu Liu confirmed on Meta's new Twitter competitor Threads that the highly-anticipated sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been delayed saying, “Was told it would follow Avengers, but that keeps pushing back due to circumstances beyond my control.” It was another disappointing week in the box office, with Insidious the Red Door opening to a $32.7 million dollar domestic box office, taking the top spot away from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which only brought in $26.5 million domestically in its second weekend. The faith-based movie about child sex trafficking, The Sound of Freedom, made headlines after earning $40 million in its first week of release and placing 3rd at the domestic box office, despite high profile, big budget competition, and controversy surrounding statements from its lead Jim Caviezel. A deleted scene confirming the High Evoluationary's fate was released, showing that the widely-hated villain is indeed alive if not 100% well. This is a different ending than most of Marvel's villains receive.
