Her work, Living a Feminist Life, her work on Complaint, and her bold and powerful blog, Feminist Killjoys, taught me so much about how institutions functioned and helped me understand my experiences in the academy. In this conversation, Sara and I talk about the book, but also talk about the aunties in her life and many other things. This episode is brought to you by The Lost Bay's Outer Rim Uprising. Follow the Kickstarter for this cool set of Mothership scenarios and resources! Max Lander and Aaron King dig through RPGs of yore to bring you valuable nuggets of mechanics, lore, and strangeness. They read the fucking manual so that you don't have to. This one starts as an episode about RuneQuest, but it quickly becomes about citation, ownership, and stewardship in the RPG industry. Like, almost solely about that. Dreams really do come true! In this episode, I get to chat to the legendary originator of the feminist killjoy herself: Sara Ahmed. We talk about who the killjoy is, what she can do for us and why it is important that you can both be her and have her as your companion. Sara talks about the people who inspired her in her work on complaint, happiness, and killjoy feminism: readers, students, poets and fellow theorists like bell hooks, Judith Butler and Audre Lorde. And of course we also talk about killjoy joy.For some extra #killjoysolidarity, follow @saranahmed and @queerlitpodcast on Twitter or @saranoahmed and @queerlitpodcast on Instagram. While we had hoped to continue our “Careers in Anthropology” series, this is a slight deviation from that, although no less interesting nor less informative! In this episode, we are joined by Dr. Kimberly A. Williams, a feminist scholar, award-winning author and public speaker. She is an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Women & Gender Studies at Mount Royal University. She teaches courses that focus on theories surrounding feminism, men and masculinities, critical race, queer and global gender issues. She has also written an award-winning book titled Imagining Russia (2012), and just completed a book critically examining the Calgary Stampede. In her “spare time” (and non-Covid times), she also leads historical walking tours, called Booze, Broads & Brothels, in which she educates participants on Calgary's consensual adult sex industry.Kim shares insight about feminist scholarship, what it is (really) like to be a woman in academia, some advice for figuring out what you want to do and some ways that we can fight to be better feminists in our field. She discusses what we can learn about and from past Calgarian sex workers, and briefly sums up what is at the very core of being human, what is really pertaining to people.**Note: there are expletives in this episode. We're back with a new season of the Baby Lambs Podcast! We took the time to educate, unlearn and relearn, and elevate voices that needed it. We hope that in our absence, you've done the same. A lot of uncomfortable but very necessary conversations have been had and uncomfortable moments of sitting with ourselves and analyze all of the ways in which we've contributed to racism/prejudice. We talk a bit about this during this episode and we'll continue talking about what we're doing in episodes to come. We also talked about the lack of female representation in gaming that is complex and nuanced. We're excited to continue that conversation as well. It's important to remember that while we've only had to have uncomfortable moments, folks are still being murdered by police and fighting for their rights. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/baby-lambs-podcast/support

Melody and Raechel are back! In Episode 100, we talk about The State of the Killjoy: where we've been, where we're at, and where we're headed. Primarily we talk about our stance on things that sometimes create division among feminists: sex work, trans liberation, lifestyle politics, capitalism, and more. In many cases, we agree with one another but not with other feminists, but in some cases, we lovingly diverge. Overall this episode provides a great overview for new listeners to determine what we're all about and how we differ from other feminist podcasts, and it's a fun listen for OG fans who want to hear us dig into various topics that have emerged over the first 100 eps! *** Time stamps: 00:00-02:30 chit-chat 02:31-07:15 who's ruining the dinner party? 07:16-44:55 The State of the Killjoy 44:56-47:56 RWLs *** Original music for FKJ PhD by Emily Jane Powers.
