We are living through unprecedented times; as each of us continues processing the election, and moving through waves of grief, disappointment, overwhelm, etc., it is vital to remain rooted in God, and come into beloved community with one another. Mom and I share a few of our thoughts post-election (check out two recent Instagram posts, Jesus Is… and Reclaiming Christianity), drop into discussing what soul care is, why it matters, and share two soul care practices you can lean into for support - breath prayer and meditating on verses of scripture. Breath prayer helps us to focus on a short phrase (God, Give me strength to keep going…or uplift a verse of scripture). You say the first part of the prayer on your inhale, and the second part on your exhale. You repeat this over and over until you feel God's spirit. And Mom walked us through meditating on scripture which she breaks down into a 3 step process of which begins with prayer, and then we observe (write down what you think the verse is saying), interpret (go deeper here and ask >>> what does this verse mean?), and application (how does this verse apply to my life? How can I embody it within my everyday living?). Church hurt is widespread, and there are still many congregations which remain closed to Christians living on the margins because of sexuality / gender identity, disability, race / ethnicity, class, education level, etc. Young Prophets Collective, a growing online church and community, founded by JJ Warren, is working to shift this through building an affirming and intersectional space which welcomes all, and excludes none. I caught up with Jonelle Brown, an active member of Young Prophets Collective. Throughout this episode we discuss - Jonelle's faith journey and what it felt like to find an LGBTQIA+ supportive faith space in college, and how this led her to found the first open and affirming campus ministry for fellow LGBTQIA+ Christian students. Young Prophets Collective, why they center, equip and empower the voices of young people (although older folks are part of the community) — we cannot forget that Biblical prophets such as Jeremaiah started out young, too! Why intersectionality is a critical part of Young Prophets Collective ministry, and their focus on growing intentionally vs. quickly. Key components of building a digital faith community - time, energy and emotional investment, and how Y.P. Collective taps into this to guide their ministry. How their weekly church service calls folks to the gathering practice (in the Methodist tradition) of sitting with and discussing pastor JJ's sermon, and also asking one another,” How is your soul? Jonelle's background as an educator, and how this experience led her to found NelleRose Educational Services, which “empowers BIPOC scholars + their families to get through high school with confidence & success.” As a success liaison and mentor, “she aims to address the systematic educational challenges faced by marginalized students of color in the U.S., especially those co-identifying as English learners, immigrants, LGBTQIA+ individuals and neurodivergent students.” Stay Connected & Further Resources - Young Prophets Collective (website) and social media: Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Michael Sheehan and Marcus Plowright, producer and director of The Girl on the Milk Carton, an Oxygen docuseries about the murder of Jonelle Matthews. Five days before Christmas 1984, 12-year-old Jonelle Matthews went missing from her own living room in the small town of Greeley, Colorado. In an attempt to find her, Jonelle was given the tragic distinction as one of the first missing children whose face appeared on a milk carton. Sadly, the publicity did not bring her home. Nearly 35 years after her disappearance, her remains were found more than 20 miles away from her home. In a bizarre twist, a true-crime fanatic and gubernatorial candidate, obsessed with Jonelle's disappearance for three decades became the main suspect. Master manipulator and aspiring politician Steve Pankey had inserted himself into this case by volunteering details about Jonelle's murder, but only in exchange for a deal. Pankey's ex-wife, a key witness in the case against him, bravely comes forward to exclusively share her experience of living with a deluded fantasist and sadistic murderer, and reveals the crucial evidence that led to his prosecution. Melvin Yumang is a 40-year old flight nurse & runner from St. Agathe, Manitoba who was one half of a recent Couple of the Quarter episode with his wife, Jonelle. Melvin & Jonelle are proud parents to 8-month old baby Jameson and in that episode they opened up about their fertility & health struggles. Today we're shining a spotlight on Melvin's running. Inspired to do something meaningful to mark the one year anniversary of his father's passing in May of 2018, Melvin decided to take up running. It started with a 10k at Ottawa race weekend but by 2019 it had escalated to a marathon. He finished the Manitoba Marathon in a very respectable time of 3:45 and has been able to shave off another 7-10 minutes every year since. He now boasts a personal best of 3:19 and wants to keep chipping away until he qualifies for Boston. Although Melvin dabbles in many distances on the roads as well as the track, his favourite distance is the marathon because of its difficulty to master. You'll hear about changes he's made to his fueling strategy as he's gone along, and how he's gotten creative with training because of his role as a shift worker and new parent.Melvin gives back to the running community in numerous ways as a pace bunny and ambassador, and joins up with local run clubs whenever he can.Connect with Melvin:Instagram: @emjaywhyCouple of the Quarter with Melvin & JonelleConnect with Carolyn & Kim:Email us with guest ideas: inspiredsolescast@gmail.comInspired Soles InstagramKim's InstagramKim's FacebookCarolyn's FacebookWe love hearing from you! Welcome to Cuppa 37 of 40. In this episode of the 40 for Tea, host Rachel Allan invites you to a lively conversation with NNI dialogues Jonelle Naudé and Weibke Renner. We dive straight into tea, crossing divides and removing the charge from power words. These powerhouse women are firm believers in the power of facilitated, genuine communication and the transformative role of empathy in resolving conflicts. At the heart of their philosophy lies the knowledge that when people's voices are truly heard, a space for understanding and new solutions are created. NNI dialogue is a systems based methodology born through working in post apartheid South Africa. Tangible change is measured through 3 specific steps. We are challenged to question the dominating focus on the "why am I right?" mindset, which often hinders progress. Instead, we are encouraged to consider that multiple truths bring resilience to a system, fear as a protector and perhaps the emotions we feel don't always belong to us. We celebrate what it is to be human, are offered valuable perspectives on how to get unstuck in relationships, teams and in life events. As we ask the question "how do we be with complexity and move forward together?" There's also a bit of energetic plumbing! So grab your cuppa and let's dive in together. Fonte 11 - O compositor Felipe Ayres, na última semana, disponibilizou todas as trilhas originais do podcast O Caso Leandro Bossi no Spotify. It's been a long year and so much has happened in the fight for climate justice. How has it been covered in major US media outlets? What is needed as the global fight for climate action continues? Two expert guests join the show this week to weigh in on these critical topics as we close out the year. First, Evlondo Cooper, senior writer with the climate and energy program at Media Matters, discusses what he saw in media coverage in 2023, what we can learn about how climate and environmental justice issues are covered, and how media can improve in 2024. Then, Mitzi Jonelle Tan, a full-time climate justice activist based in Metro Manila, Philippines who is also the convenor and international spokesperson of Youth Advocates for Climate Action Philippines (YACAP), the Fridays For Future (FFF) of the Philippines, joins the show. For more than three and a half decades, the disappearance of 12-year-old Jonelle Matthews was a mystery – a riddle neither authorities nor her family members could solve. The residents of her cloistered Colorado hometown had scoured every inch of prairie. Jonelle's face had been on milk cartons nationwide. Even the President of the United States had appealed to the public for help. Still, every lead had fizzled. Every person of interest had turned out to be a dead end. Then, in 2019, Jonelle's remains were unearthed near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. With the discovery came a troubling new question: Had the truth been hiding in plain sight the entire time? Was the man who couldn't stop obsessing over Jonelle's disappearance also the person who took her? From Campside Media and Wondery comes season two of SUSPECT. Former CNN reporter Ashley Fantz and executive producers Matthew Shaer and Eric Benson (Suspect, Over My Dead Body) dig into one of the most mind-bending cold cases in modern history, in an attempt to separate fact and fiction, compulsion from guilt, and true-crime fandom from a motive for murder.Hey Prime Members, you can binge all 6 episodes of SUSPECT: Vanished in the Snow ad-free on Amazon Music.
