Canadian swimmer Penny Oleksiak made history at the Tokyo Games by becoming our most decorated Olympian. She collected her seventh medal in the pool, and at just 21 years old, it's not a stretch to think she'll add more hardware in Paris just three years from now. Wes Gilbertson, covering the games for Postmedia, joins Dave to discuss Oleksiak's jump to prominence at the 2016 Games, what her performance in Tokyo says about the strength of our swimming program, and what the future could hold. In a crowd of perhaps overly media-trained athletes, Penny Oleksiak lets it all hang out. Canada's most decorated Olympian has a knack for saying exactly what's on her mind in interviews. Shortly after Penny scooped medal number seven into her loot bag, the swimming phenom came through the International Broadcast Center in Tokyo to do her duty with the awaiting media. CBC Sports Player's Own Voice podcast seized the moment to document a not-too polished picture of the Olympic experience from an athlete's point of view. What's really on your mind amid all the hubbub and cameras? How does it actually feel to win more Olympic medals than anyone in Canadian history? Exactly what kind of fun will you grant yourself before buckling down again? How much did you hate practising through all those early, unsung years, and do the podium trips make it all worthwhile? It's a funny and freewheeling fifteen minutes...Anastasia Bucsis puts her new besty at ease, and barely a responsible word is spoken.

I don't know what you were doing at 15, but for me it was hanging out with my friends. I had dreams and ambitions but they were confined to my world, and not conquering the world. With the Tokyo Olympics around the corner, I chat with Penny Oleksiak. Penny became the first Canadian to win four medals in the same Summer Olympic Games and Canada's youngest Olympic champion. The irony is that when she was qualifying to represent Canada, she was hoping for an alternative spot on the relay team versus having such success she became Canada's flag bearer for the closing ceremonies. We chat about how her life changes when fame throws a blinding spotlight onto your every move. Penny opens up about all that comes with being the world's best and the mental and physical preparation required to stay there. There was a time when Penny wasn't happy with parts of her life. She credits RBC, Bianca Andreescu and Michael Phelps, for being there for her and Michael for giving her a book, The Power of Now, as a means for resetting and reframing her expectations. Evan MacInnis, Director, Pathway and Performance Programs at Canadian Sport Centre, and RBC Training Ground, joins the show to provide us with his perspective on what it takes to own the podium.
