Dr. Steven on California's New Laws Curbing Private Equity Control of Medical PracticesIn this episode of The Pediatric Lounge, the hosts welcome back Dr. Steven from California to discuss two new state laws addressing private equity and the corporate practice of medicine. Dr. Steven describes his key role as a witness supporting SB 351, which strengthens enforcement against MSOs and private equity interfering with clinical judgment, physician scheduling, work hours, medical record control, and certain restrictive covenants and NDAs tied to quality and ethical concerns. He shares his own experience of alleged MSO interference, including canceled COVID vaccine clinics and loss of control of his professional corporation, now part of a lawsuit. They also review AB 1415, requiring disclosure and greater oversight of healthcare transactions, and compare similar issues in dentistry and leveraged buyouts, arguing financial incentives can harm patient care and physician autonomy while weakening relationships and access in larger systems.00:00 Podcast Intro00:29 Catching Up in California01:04 Surf and Wave Safety02:20 How SB 351 Passed03:17 Enforcing Corporate Practice07:12 MSO Interference Examples11:22 Noncompetes and NDAs13:15 Deal Disclosure Law AB 141514:48 Dental PE and LBO Debt17:51 Pediatrics Margins and Debt19:44 Urgent Care and Midlevels23:00 Who Pays the Debt23:48 Wall Street Gambling Mindset25:15 Money Over Patients25:37 Recruit Then Replace26:52 Leverage And Lending28:40 Physician Exit Strategy31:17 Independence Comeback34:26 Access And Pricing Failures36:04 Referral Barriers And Triage40:17 Relationships Lost In Medicine43:05 Teaching The Next Generation44:08 Closing Thanks And CreditsSupport the show
What does the future of love actually look like? Not the version we inherited, like the relationship escalator, the fairytale, the prince who saves you, the outdated rules about who texts first and who pays. But love as it's really evolving: in a world of dating apps, hot-take profiles, AI technology, and a communication crisis that's reshaping how we connect. In Episode 9 of Real Love Ready, Robin sits down with Damona Hoffman, a relationship futurist, dating coach, and love expert on The Drew Barrymore Show. She's the author of F the Fairy Tale, host of the award-winning Dates & Mates podcast, and has spent nearly two decades advising the world's biggest dating apps behind the scenes. Together they unpack how dating has changed, why intentionality matters more than volume, what AI is doing to the way we relate, and how we get to write our own love stories instead of the ones we were handed. Whether you're single, married, divorced, or somewhere in between, you'll walk away with real, practical ways to bring more love into your life, by being more intentional, more honest, and more loving. The Love, Happiness and Success Podcast With Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby
Have you ever felt like you are carrying something heavy that you cannot quite explain, something that does not even feel like it started with you? A few years ago I traced my own anxious drive back to grandparents I never met, people who were, in a real sense, being chased by wolves. It turns out a lot of what we call “my issues” was handed to us. And that makes it far more workable than it feels. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Thomas Hübl, the teacher and trauma-integration facilitator who co-wrote the new book Releasing Our Burdens with Dr. Richard Schwartz, the creator of Internal Family Systems. Thomas studies healing as one continuum that runs from the individual to the ancestral to the collective, and he joined me to explain why the thing you keep trying to fix about yourself may not have started with you, and what becomes possible when you stop fighting it and start to thaw it. In This Episode Why the thing you keep trying to fix about yourself may not have started with you, and what that changes The freezer metaphor that explains what trauma quietly costs you every single day Why Thomas calls trauma “a loan from the future,” and how the bill comes due What is really happening when your partner says one thing and your whole body locks up How intergenerational trauma gets passed down, in your nervous system and even in your cells The difference between the resilience you inherited and the burden you inherited Why a whole country can feel stuck and reactive, and what that has to do with your own healing A different definition of healing: not fixing what is broken, but releasing what is frozen This episode is for anyone who has ever looked at their own anxiety, or their drivenness, or that low hum of feeling empty for no reason they can name, and thought, where is this even coming from? If you have done the personal work and still feel like there is a layer underneath you cannot reach, this conversation opens a door. Some of what you carry is not a personal failing. It is inherited. And it can be set down. Welcome back to the Fintech Takes podcast. I'm Alex Johnson, joined by Rafe Mazer, researcher and author of the excellent report "Who Pays for What? Pricing and Monetization Options in Open Finance." This episode is a deliberate step back from the U.S. open banking soap opera I've been living inside for the past year or so. The question of who pays for open finance isn't one the U.S. gets to answer in isolation. Other markets have been wrestling with it for years, and at some point I needed someone to make me look up. That person is Rafe. Rafe works across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and beyond, and his new report surveys the global landscape of how open finance systems get built and funded. It's the closest thing to a first principles analysis that exists, and you should read it (link below). We cover the four distinct cost stages of open finance (most countries only plan for one), plus the five pricing archetypes that exist globally, from Brazil's threshold pricing that was never actually collected to South Korea's voluntary, self-governing open banking exchange that works without a single regulatory mandate requiring it. The U.S., despite having one of the most competitive financial markets in the world, may be poorly positioned to get this right. We also get into reciprocity, the word that never appears in the U.S. open banking debate but probably should, and what a federal data protection law would actually change. Check out Rafe's report here: https://www.centerforfinancialinclusion.org/brief/who-pays-for-what-pricing-and-monetization-options-in-open-finance/ This episode is brought to you by Persona. What's actually in your food, and who's protecting the companies that put it there?I sit down with Johanna Hellrigl, chef, restaurateur, board member of the Environmental Working Group, and founder of Ama, the mission-driven Northern Italian restaurant four blocks from the US Capitol, to talk about what's really happening in our food system, why your cookware matters as much as your ingredients, and how a woman who grew up in a Michelin-quality kitchen ended up fighting pesticide immunity bills and plastic migration in the same breath. This conversation goes deeper than clean eating. Johanna walks through the specific decisions she makes every day, from the containers in her kitchen to the farms that grow her tomatoes, and explains why the real model for healthy eating has been sitting in Italian kitchens for centuries. She is building a case study that nourishing food, done with integrity, can also be a viable business. If you have ever felt overwhelmed by the food system or paralyzed by conflicting information, this episode gives you a clear-headed, practical place to start. What we explore:- How heat, fat, acid, and time create the conditions for plastic and chemicals to migrate directly into your food.- Why 99% of food chemicals enter the US supply through a regulatory loophole that bypasses proper safety review.- What rebuilding your gut microbiome actually requires, and why what happens in your gut controls far more than most people realize.- How Johanna runs a restaurant rooted in love without sacrificing standards, consistency, or accountability.- Why voting with your dollars and contacting your representatives are two of the most direct actions you can take right now.About Johanna Hellrigl:Johanna Hellrigl is a chef, restaurateur, and culinary advocate redefining what restaurants can stand for. She is the chef-owner of Ama, an award-winning Northern Italian restaurant in Washington, DC, named a James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic in 2026 and recognized by Gambero Rosso for authenticity. Before opening Ama, she spent years in international democracy-building work across 61 countries, an experience that deepened her belief that food is one of the most powerful tools for connection and change. She sits on the board of the Environmental Working Group and works with the Plastic Pollution Coalition, bringing the same rigor she applies in her kitchen to the fight for a safer, more transparent food system.Connect with Johanna Hellrigl:Instagram (Chef Johanna): https://www.instagram.com/chefjohannahellrigl/Instagram (Ama Restaurant): https://www.instagram.com/amarestaurant.bar/Website: https://amarestaurant.barTimestamps00:00 Intro01:00 Growing Up in a Michelin Kitchen05:08 How 61 Countries Brought Her Back to Food08:00 Reclaiming the Family Meal13:17 Pesticide Loopholes and Who Pays the Price20:12 Finding Common Ground on Food Policy29:00 Plastic, Cookware, and Cutting Board Basics37:40 Meal Prep That Actually Works43:40 Why She Opened Ama56:23 Love, Standards, and Consistency in the Kitchen01:01:06 What's Really Inside a Plate of Pasta01:08:33 Healing the Gut After Antibiotic Overload01:15:39 EWG, Plastic Pollution Coalition, and How to Get Loud–This episode is sponsored by:RITUAL: So sit back and raise a glass to your new evening Ritual with Magnesium+. Who pays on the first date? When should you talk about money in a relationship? How do you split finances with your partner — and what happens when you don't? Sabrina sits down with Jean and Cherie, the Tiger Sisters, to tackle every uncomfortable money question in dating and relationships — from first-date expectations and financial red flags to prenups, combining finances, and protecting yourself before marriage. If you've ever avoided "the money talk" with someone you're dating, this episode is your wake-up call. The Tiger Sisters bring their Wall Street, Silicon Valley, and business school backgrounds to break down the business side of love — why financial independence matters (especially for women), how to set boundaries around money without killing the romance, and why who you choose to marry is the single most important decision you'll ever make. Whether you're single, dating, or already in a relationship, this conversation will change how you think about love, money, and building a life with the right partner. Close the Loop: Mastering 2026 Dating Live Practice + Q&A with Sabrina Zohar I'm hosting a free live session on March 4, and this is the last one I'm planning for a long time. If dating keeps ending the same way and you can't figure out why, this is for you.

We cover Adam Smith's opposition to slavery, misconceptions about profit incentives, the global history of forced labor, and the moral and economic failures surrounding emancipation, closing with a broader discussion of capitalism, socialism, and historical accountability. 00:00 Introduction and Overview 00:44 Presidential Approval Ratings and Polling Reality 02:38 Why Americans Have Always Hated Politicians 03:35 Powerball, Probability, and the Math of Dreaming 06:51 Maryland's Reparations Commission Explained 08:12 Who Pays and Who Gets Reparations? 10:03 Mitigation, Law, and the Reparations Problem 14:24 Introducing Phil Magness 15:02 Was Capitalism Built on Slavery? 17:59 Slavery as an Ancient Institution 19:50 Adam Smith's Case Against Slavery 23:05 Why Slavery Is Anti-Capitalist 24:50 Pro-Slavery Economics and Feudalism 26:16 Founding Fathers, Hypocrisy, and Moral Failure 30:21 Slavery's Global History and Misconceptions 32:06 Incentives, Profit, and Economic Naivety 34:53 Would Slavery Have Ended Without the Civil War? 37:59 Gradual Emancipation and Historical Alternatives 40:47 Socialism, Capitalism, and the Plantation Model 44:01 Final Reflections and Closing Thoughts Learn more about your ad choices. The AI race isn't about chips anymore. It's about electricity. In a massive $4.75 billion deal, Google (Alphabet) just acquired Intersect Power, a major clean energy developer, to secure the grid access its data centers desperately need. But Google isn't alone. From Microsoft restarting Three Mile Island to Amazon's massive nuclear contracts, Big Tech is panic-buying power plants. In this video, we break down why the "AI Energy Wall" is forcing tech giants to become utility companies, and what this means for the future of the power grid, nuclear energy, and your electric bill.TIMESTAMPS0:00 – Intro: Bigtech Energy War0:44 – The Deal: Why Google Bought Intersect Power for $4.75B1:30 – The "Energy Wall": AI Power Consumption vs. The Grid2:01 – BigTech Energy Contracts in 20253:21 – Who Pays? As of 2025, 32 states, along with Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico, have some form of school voucher or voucher-like program (such as education savings accounts or tax-credit scholarships). Seems that voucher programs are spreading across the US like hot TikTok influencer video, captivating, but ya better check your facts first! And I, unfortunately, don't think voucher programs will be retreating back into the Pandora's box of alternate education any time soon. So public school teachers and the folks that love and support them better take notice, because it's coming to a district near you. I fly solo in this quickie episode and bring you the latest on the biggest voucher program in the US so far. Texas, of course! Everything's bigger in Texas! I talk about how the program will run, how oversight will happen and the pros and cons of how this program may affect public schools. Does Texas get it right? Gotta hold for applause, for now.For a deeper dive into this topic, listen to episode 58 Public Money for Private School Choice: Who Benefits and Who Pays the Price (https://open.spotify.com/episode/2KplvYMJgMVy4wjaLnUyKw?si=dWYxKPsjTYqvqy0xw0w27w). Jen and I get in deep on the details of these programs and their consequences. Glad you stopped by for a "quickie" I hope it was as good for you as it was for me! Thanks for listening and thanks a bunch more for your support!

Tariffs and trade wars could affect mortgage rates much more than most Americans think. You've heard on the news that tariffs on Canada mean higher gas prices, tariffs on Mexico mean a bigger grocery bill, and tariffs on China lead to electronics and appliances becoming even more expensive. However, as a real estate investor or homeowner waiting to refinance, the key number to watch for the impact of tariffs is interest rates. Today, we're breaking down how the tariffs will affect you, which prices will rise, which real estate investments will become even more costly, and how interest rates have been held hostage by tariff threats. If tariffs are contributing to the current high mortgage rates, could tariff concessions lead to lower rates? If President Trump can work out deals with trade partners, would this mean a cheaper mortgage payment? We're breaking down tariffs, trade wars, rising prices, and how they'll affect your real estate investments. In This Episode We Cover New tariff update: which countries have reached a deal and which are currently tariffed Why mortgage rates are surprisingly affected by tariffs and trade wars Who pays the tariffs once they're in place (most Americans have this WRONG) A post-tariff inflation prediction and whether we'll bump back to pandemic inflation levels Trump's two primary goals for imposing tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China And So Much More! Johnathan and Brian start this episode by diving into the debacle of the Trump tariffs that the 47th president has levied on Mexico, Canada, and China. Nothing good will come from this, and Johnathan and Brian explain what the impacts will be and why the notion that everything can be "Made in America" is false. In segment two, we focus on Elon Musk and his DOGE bros who have just waltzed into federal buildings and set up shop, accessing our most personal information. How is this legal? It's certainly not ethical. Where is Congress on this? The Ford Fact Check takes us to the horrific plane/helicopter crash in Washington D.C., and the president's lack of empathy.
