Bryce and Caroline had the opportunity to talk to the first Forward Thinking Speaker Series presenter of 2020, Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson. He'll be talking about "Building A City for 2 Million People" and how he sees the Edmonton of the near future growing and thriving. In this interview, Mayor Iveson previews some of what he'll be talking about, including why it's so important for him to include youth leaders in the discussion and what challenges and opportunities are facing the Edmonton region. Our hosts also slip in a few pop culture questions, including asking about his favourite fictional politicians and what he's been reading lately. In June 2003, former WWE wrestler Dr. Chris Nowinski suffered a serious concussion that threatened his health and cost him his career. Today, Dr. Chris Nowinski is the co-founder of the Concussion Legacy Foundation with Dr. Robert Cantu to solve the sports concussion crisis through education, awareness, policy and research. Dr. Nowinski will be here in Edmonton on September 17th as part of EPL’s Forward Thinking Speaker Series and he chats with Bryce and Caroline in this special episode about his upcoming event, the important work that his team is doing at the Concussion Legacy Foundation and his time in the WWE. Dr. Chris Nowinski is a former WWE superstar who was forced to retire due to a concussion. He went on to co-found of the Concussion Legacy Foundation with Dr. Robert Cantu to solve the sports concussion crisis through education, awareness, policy and research. You’ll hear what Dr. Nowinski and his Boston University team has learned from studying the brains of 500 athletes and veterans and his vision for changing sports to protect athletes.

We'll be interviewing author Anthony Ray Hinton who will be our next Forward Thinking Speaker Series presenter on Jun 12th. Anthony Ray Hinton was released in April 2015 after spending 30 years on death row for crime he did not commit. He was released with the help of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), of which he is currently a Community Educator.
