Being the biggest (in size) of 9 siblings, Omolora realised at an early age that she looked different from most people. Nevertheless her larger than life personality made it hard not to love her. She refused to get off the bus so children wouldn't ridicule her in high school & would hide during lunch time avoiding to purchase food. But with a bit of motivation from one of her teachers; she emerged as Head Girl, she made history TWICE being Guild President at University of the West Indies (Mona) for 2 years consecutively and the FIRST plus size National Festival Queen of Jamaica!

I've never been one of those parents. You know the kind I'm talking about. Their kid does a poo for the first time sitting on a toilet and they're taking out an ad in The Irish Times to announce the news. It's genuinely rare that I find myself in a position to say – like I did on Friday – that I'm proud of one of my children. Honor has now completed exactly half of her community service hours for vandalising hundreds of SUVs across south Dublin. I know it's a low bor that I've set for her, but here we are. Her powerful testimony illustrates perfectly how vital Future Hope's work continues to be. After she speaks passionately on the role of women in India today, it's symbolic that the return visit to Sealdah Station reveals a surprise twist. How different things would have been had Tim Grandage failed to navigate choppy waters in the Future Hope early years! As we turn the clock right back, we discover how close they came to closure; evicted twice, once at a moment's notice just before Christmas. Joining Jill and Doron on the 18th episode of the podcast, to tell us their story, are siblings Rachel Feuerstein (1981-88) and Joe Feuerstein (1981-87), whose devout mixed-faith parentage made for a highly unusual Carmel experience never before publicly discussed.   Rachel, now known as RD (short for Rochel Dina) Rubin, attended Carmel from 1981 to 88, is a former classmate of Jill and Doron's, and Head Girl of their year.  She is the founder of a Judaica business, “The Shabbat collection”, and after living in half a dozen different cities in North America and Asia, settled in Jerusalem, where for the past fifteen years she has lived with her three children. She wrote a manuscript about her interfaith upbringing and journey.   Joe studied medicine in London and Cambridge, served as a combat physician in the IDF's navy, and completed his family and integrative medicine training in the United States, including at Columbia University in NYC, where he is an assistant professor of medicine.  Joe has treated over 45,000 patients with serious medical conditions using only natural approaches. He authored the books “Dr. Joe's Man Diet” and “The Cannabinoid Cookbook”.  He is a regular guest on a TV show produced for a faith-based African-American audience, and co-host of the award-winning internet cooking series “Condition Kitchen”.  Joe lives in Connecticut with his wife and five children.   Hear Rachel and Joe talk about being admitted to Carmel (and Rachel becoming Head Girl) before being recognized as Jewish by the Beth-Din, Rachel discovering centrifugal force, and Joe making a theater erupt in laughter.   Thank you, Rachel and Joe Feuerstein, for turning us again to Carmel days!   Dedication: at Rachel and Joe's request, this episode is dedicated to the memory of our Carmel contemporary Dr. Daniel Cammerman (1980-87), an Oxford graduate and pediatrician in NYC, who at the age of 50 tragically died in a traffic accident in Central Park in December 2019.  He is survived by his wife and their two children, and by his younger siblings Gideon and Rachel, both also Carmel alumni. Personal mentions in this episode: Rabbi Dr. Kopul Rosen (Founder, Headmaster) Philip Skelker (Headmaster) Joel Silver (Housemaster & Computer Studies) Reverend Mordechai Berkovitch (Jewish Studies) Alan Edmondson (Chemistry) Martin Edmonds (French) Jill Johnston (Music) Dr. John Addis (History) Mary Evans (Mathematics) Abraham Nonoo Jeff Benjamin Penina Borisute Sean Rogg Timothy Rogg Anabel (Petter) Junger Fiona Grankin Joanne Miller Nava Corin Lindsay Simmonds Nikki Borisute Ashley Perry Emma Goldstone Isaac Levy Natalie Solomon Jackie Sharp Mel Elias Jonathan Feigenbaum Gavin Geminder Rebecca Wernick Colin Nahon Michael Nahon Jamie King Daniel Epstein Leila Djemal Judith Djemal Abby Borisute Sean Casper Houda Nonoo Trevor Simon Ernst Kastner Abigail Simon Toby Simon Adam Gumbiner Daniel Cammerman Gideon Cammerman Rachel Cammerman   Feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you liked about this episode, and rate us on your favorite podcast platform

Kiwi writer and poet Freya Daly Sadgrove joins Liz and Ben from Sydney as we adjust our uniforms and march into the horrible realities of war (class, gender and literal) to discuss Terry Pratchett's thirty-first Discworld novel, 2003's Monstrous Regiment. Polly Perks has cut off her hair, put on some trousers and joined the army under the name of Oliver, all so she can find her strong but gentle-minded brother, Paul. Is soon turns out that her regiment, led by the infamous Sergeant Jackrum who swears to look after “his little lads”, is quite possibly the last one left in all of Borogravia. In her search for Paul, Polly will have to deal with the enemy, the free press, a vampire who might kill for a coffee, Sam Vimes, and The Secret: she might not be the only impostor in the ranks... Coming in between the first two Tiffany Aching novels, Monstrous Regiment - which is also monstrous in size, possibly Pratchett's second longest novel - is the last truly standalone Discworld story. It introduces a wonderful cast of characters who, sadly, we'll never see again. Not only that, but it gives major supporting roles to old favourites Sam Vimes and William de Worde, with a side order of Otto von Chriek! Critics at the time compared it to Evelyn Waugh, Jonathan Swift and All Quiet on the Western Front, and it remains one of Pratchett's most beloved and celebrated novels - both for what it says about war, and about gender. Did you know The Secret before you read Monstrous Regiment? What's it like re-reading it when you do know? How do you feel about the ending(s)? How does Pratchett's handling of gender hold up against our modern understanding? What would you prohibit, in Nugganite fashion? And would you rather have a type of food or clothing named after you? Get on board the conversation for this episode with the hashtag #Pratchat76. Freya Daly Sadgrove (she/her) is a pākehā writer and performance poet from New Zealand, currently living in Sydney. Her first book of poetry, Head Girl, was published in 2020 by Te Herenga Waka University Press, and she is one of the creators of New Zealand live poetry showcase Show Ponies, which presents poets like they're pop stars. Her first full-length live show, 2023's Whole New Woman, blended poetry with live rock music. Brianna is the Head Girl's Basketball Coach at East View High School in Georgetown, TX and was a former standout on the University of Texas Women's basketball team. In her senior year, Briana was recognized as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and was a four-time selection to the Academic All-Big 12 Teams.  During the conversation Coach Taylor talks about learning from failure, why it's important to take risks, how setbacks can serve as springboards for the future, and she shares stories highlight why great leaders are persistent.  She also emphasizes the importance of authenticity and being true to yourself. This is an enjoyable interview and filled with wisdom about inclusive and servant leadership philosophies.  The music for the episode, Give Me Everything, was created by Anthem of Rain.

Baroness Hale of Richmond is a pioneering female legal mind who became President of the Supreme Court in the U.K. Baroness Hale of Richmond was invited to give the Sir Winston Churchill Memorial Lecture by the British Luxembourg Society this week; only the second woman in its history to have done so, the first being Margaret Thatcher. Her talk was entitled “The Independence of the Judiciary and some of its Enemies”. Baroness Hale is, in the words of criminal barrister Gareth Weetman, ‘legal royalty'. Her fame grew beyond the world of legal minds when, as President of the Supreme Court, she had to deliver the verdict that Boris Johnson's prorogation of parliament was “void and of no effect”. She did so whilst wearing a demure black dress adorned with a striking spider brooch. In this interview at RTL she wore her favourite brooch - two mating dragonflies. Lady Hale's life story is now available in her book, Spider Woman. I highly suggest you listen to it in audible format, with Lady Hale herself as narrator. This highlights the sparkle and keen sense of intelligence in her voice. During this interview, we start with the ‘Spider' story and move onto whether Lady Hale believes British Parliament is in favour of an independent judiciary, or whether she feels the Supreme Court justices are influenced by Government. We also mention Suella Braverman, as the Supreme Court very recently ruled her idea of sending refugees coming to the UK to Rwanda as unlawful. In Lady Hale's lifetime as an academic, Law Commissioner, High Court Judge, Lord Justice of Appeal, Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, and finally President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, Lady Hale has effected great change in the legal rights of women, children and those with mental health issues, amongst much else. In this long discussion we have a glimpse into the life of an extremely agile mind that has developed British law for the benefit of a greater proportion of society. Lady Hale believes we need more basic education of the judiciary processes in school in order to understand how law is there for the benefit of society; how things link together. Her only daughter, Julia Hoggett, is CEO at the London Stock Exchange, and is another trailblazer in her own right. Lady Hale's late second-husband, Julian Farrand, had the wonderful piece of advice: "All I want is more than enough". Lady Hale is the middle of three daughters who all became Head Girl of their school in Yorkshire and the only ladies to marry 30 miles beyond their home village. Her parents were accomplished teachers and her father's sudden death aged just 49, when she was 13, developed a core of resilience and non-dependence on a man for income. Baroness Hale was accompanied by Sir Nicholas Forwood KC.

Chapter 3: Ambition "And then, once I'm Head Girl, I will graduate at the very top, and they'll let me give a speech at the end of the school year, and I will go to a Muggle university for four years to make sure I didn't miss anything," Lucy babbled, balancing on the edge of her chair. "And then, once I'm done, I will come back and take over Malfoy Consulting Group because Daddy will be old and Mummy will be Minister of Magic by then. And then, when I'm older, I'll be Minister for Magic. And then all of my friends will come to my parties and I won't have to go to any of theirs because theirs aren't as nice as mine and they will bring me all the presents I want and I can tell Oliver Burns he can't come because he said he didn't like my pink dress last week and I don't need a stupid pure-blood boy at my parties anyway — I'll be Minister for Magic!" The seven-year-old took a deep breath and continued. Hermione and Draco looked at each other across the dinner table, and simultaneously said, "She gets this from you."

Her first job out of uni was as a consultant with McKinsey which she reflects was a great place to learn the trade of consulting and to think about business strategically, but Allegra wanted to use these tools for good and apply them to the social sector. Her ambition saw her work for the UK Treasury, in Kenya for a not-for-profit and as part of a huge teaching hospital.Upon returning to Australia in 2007, “the time was right” and Allegra was named Managing Director of Carla Zampatti, where she was able to apply her learned skills to this point back into the family business. Allegra successfully ran the business for 8 years, through the GFC and through it's transformation to online. While Allegra stepped down as MD 5 years ago, she remains on the board of Carla Zampatti - one of Australia's most successful fashion brands and the only Australian, family-led business that is transforming from one generation to another. Before her move into politics, Allegra was Chair of Sydney Renewable Power Company - an impact investment company that put 500kW of solar power on the roof of the Sydney Convention Centre - and the CEO of Australian Business Community Network which works with 47 leading businesses including Microsoft, Lend Lease and Optus, partnering them with approximately 200 low socio-economic schools matching student to real world mentors educating them on what's possible and within their grasp.Allegra is deeply passionate about business, education, community and the environment - “a better climate for Wentworth” is her key policy. She's an advocate for the tech and startup ecosystem, is a member of YPO and sees a strong tie and limitless opportunities between climate and tech - hoping to see Australia standing at the forefront of technology around climate. She is open, honest and transparent.
