Welcome back to The Speakeasy Podcast! In this episode, I'm joined by one of my closest friends—and one of my favorite people to learn from—Amy Bernhardt. I call her my "continuing education friend" because she's always learning, growing, and sharing wisdom that hits deep. Amy recently shared something online that stopped me in my tracks: "What if your weight loss journey isn't about losing weight at all, but about God teaching you about yourself and preparing you for what's next?" That idea launched one of the most honest and powerful conversations we've had—about what happens when we stop chasing perfection and start letting God use our health journey to heal our hearts, renew our minds, and strengthen our spirits. Amy shares her story of going from extreme fitness culture and burnout to walking in balance, fasting, and freedom. She opens up about breaking cycles of self-sabotage, learning discipline through small daily choices, and discovering that getting healthy can be one of the holiest things you ever do. We also talk about: The false identities that keep us stuck in shame and failure How fasting revealed spiritual strongholds, not just physical habits The connection between physical healing, emotional renewal, and obedience What it means to start before you "feel ready" and trust God with the process This conversation is both real and redemptive, reminding us that God cares about every part of us—body, mind, and spirit—and He's in the details of your healing journey. This episode is brought to you by: PreBorn — Every $28 you give sponsors an ultrasound for a woman considering abortion. When she hears her baby's heartbeat, everything changes. You can be the voice of hope that helps save a life and support a mother in need.
Feeling stuck, restless, or disconnected from your healing? In this episode, Kari and Jenn talk with Luke LeFevre, creator of The Holy Work Method, about how honest journaling with God can unlock emotional, spiritual, and even physical healing. Luke shares how one desperate prayer—"God, rock my world"—and a single honest letter became the turning point that transformed his life. He walks us through his simple five-step journaling rhythm of stillness, gratitude, honesty, and listening for God's voice. If you've been craving peace but don't know where to start, this conversation will remind you: healing begins with honesty, not perfection. Connect with Luke LeFever

Genesis 1:27-28, 2:15; Colossians 3:23-24.
Caregiving often hides what I call smoldering rage—resentment that simmers quietly until a fresh crisis ignites it like a wildfire. In this week's Hope for the Caregiver radio show, I open with a monologue about those hidden embers, drawing from Montana's fire season to show how caregivers can confront resentment and apply God's grace before it consumes us. The program closes with a hymn every caregiver needs: “Be Still, My Soul.” Gracie's a cappella performance of this timeless hymn reminds us that God's faithfulness steadies us when caregiving feels unbearable and that the daily grind of service is, in fact, holy work. This episode also features excerpts from my conversation with author and fellow caregiver Jess Ronne, whose story of loss, resilience, and faith offers a powerful reminder that we're not alone in this journey.

In this episode of The GoodKind Podcast, Clayton Greene, Chris Pappalardo, and Arthur Tew unpack the surprisingly spiritual side of... homework. Through stories from public school, homeschooling, and their own childhoods, they wrestle with what homework actually teaches kids—not just academically, but spiritually. They reflect on the difference between meaningful work and busywork, how homework intersects with identity and overwork, and whether school is subtly shaping our kids to see productivity as a primary value. By the end, it's clear: how we talk about homework shapes how our kids think about work, worth, and even Sabbath.TakeawaysHomework is more than just worksheets. It can train kids in independence and perseverance—or frustrate them with pointless busywork.Meaningful work matters. Kids are more motivated when they understand the purpose of what they're doing—whether it's a Shakespearean writing prompt or feeding chickens. All homework is not created equal. Parents can help kids distinguish between tasks that just need to get done, and tasks that are vital to learning. Homework shouldn't sabotage Sabbath. Carving out weekend space free from school demands models a rhythm of grace.Homeschool or public school, the big question is: what are we teaching them about work? Through homework, chores, and school routines, we're forming our kids' beliefs about productivity, rest, and their value.
Our influence often shows up in the ordinary moments—when we're not even aware we're making an impact. That's why integrity matters: our “holy orders” aren't just lived out on stages or in sanctuaries, but in kitchens, classrooms, text messages, and quiet conversations. Pastor Michele reminds us that we are most often reflecting Christ when we don't realize we are.

Where we work we are called to do it to the glory of God. To let our light shine, serve those we are called to serve, and do the very best that we can. Being holy isn't about working in a church God uses you where you are.Philippians 2:3-4Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.Matthew 5:14-16“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

If you're feeling stuck, or like you're in "the wilderness" of life, let this episode be an encouragement to you. It's not too late to dream big! You Might Be a Late Bloomer, writes David Brooks in The Atlantic. Paul shares his thoughts on being a late bloomer and how to keep forward momentum on your dreams no matter your age. One way is to see obstacles in your way, rather than issues to be solved, maybe they are polarities to be managed. There's a whole philosophy called Polarity Management that can help you balance living in the now while also having big dreams for the future. If/when you hit the wilderness, just keep moving forward. In a previous episode of the Next Simple Step podcast, Paul interviewed Luke Lefevre. Luke describes the wilderness as a necessary part of doing Holy Work. What work do you need to do to achieve your dream? Take the next simple step today!

I also know what it feels like to have a stirring and know there is something more, and where I am now “ain't” it, but I have no idea what to do next. But, after over 20 years of stumbling, fighting, studying, researching, working through battles, and seeing this same pattern in hundreds of creative people in my C-suite, executive, and coaching roles, I have found there is a path and there are practices that can lead you from being stuck, restless and stirred to unlocked and thriving. God put something inside of YOU before YOU were born, something you can't help but be, and He is pulling YOU to it. There is a way to see where you are on this path and what it will take to continue to follow. These feelings of being stuck, restless, and stirred aren't bad feelings. These feelings are coming from God.He is pulling you!You are not stuck. You are not lost! You are on a path. This PULL will lead you to your PURPOSE. God wants to pull you through this path and create something with you through, through you, and most importantly...in you. It takes a lot of work, but it isn't just any kind of work, it is work that transforms us. This work will transform YOU in ways you can't imagine and YOU will create things you can't imagine!
