Joining host Michael Azevedo on this episode are Sarah Perkins and Josh Sabey, the co-directors of "Public Enemies, Private Friends," a riveting documentary that tells the story of two murders, a secret meeting, and an impossible friendship. On December 30, 1994, a man carrying a black duffel bag entered an abortion clinic in Brookline, Massachusetts. By the day's end, two women were dead, a manhunt was underway, a traumatized community was in mourning, and leaders on both sides of a divide wondered what they could have done to prevent it. It was at that juncture that a six year clandestine dialogue between enemies began. Set against the backdrop of the Salvi murders and the contentious court case that followed, "Public Enemies, Private Friends," follows six women—leaders on opposing sides of the abortion debate—who meet secretly and under threat of violence in an effort to replace dangerous and divisive stereotypes, strategies, and rhetoric with empathy, tolerance, and genuine friendship.  "Public Enemies, Private Friends" will be broadcast in the Boston area on PBS station, GBH on May 30. In early June, a more comprehensive version of the story will debut on Amazon Prime as a 6-part documentary series.  Making Media Now is sponsored by Filmmakers Collaborative, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting media makers from across the creative spectrum. Life's struggles come in different forms and at different times. For me, they've often come during the holiday season. It's a period that reminds me of the loved ones I've lost – my grandfather, brother, and just recently, my dear father. Yet, I've always seen it as a chance to share, to lend strength, and offer support. I stand here, not pleading for help but reaching out to you, especially those who may be nursing similar wounds. Let's be each other's leaning post. We often say it takes a village, and that's very true. The love and warmth you've shown me in this tough season is beyond words. Your messages, cards, and acts of kindness have been a balm, a beacon of light amid the storm. I can't forget my chosen family who have been my rock, and special thanks go to Matt and Sarah Perkins from Ledge Way Farm. Their motivational video featuring Les Brown and Bishop TD Jakes was the push I needed to keep marching towards my dream. The truth is, we can't escape life's challenges. They come in various forms - losing a loved one, running a small business in trying times, or dealing with personal crises. But one thing is certain: we can grow through them. We can learn to harness the power of motivational tools, such as inspirational videos, to turn our situations around. And in the end, the human connection, reaching out, and standing up for each other really matters. After all, tomorrow affords us another chance, another conversation. Let's seize it and keep sharing our struggles and triumphs. If you found value in today's show please return the favor and leave a positive review and share it with someone important to you! https://www.sharethestrugglepodcast.com/reviews/new/Find all you need to know about the show https://www.sharethestrugglepodcast.com/Official Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100077724159859Join the 2% of Americans that Buy American and support American Together we can bring back American Manufacturing https://www.loudproudamerican.shop/Loud Proud American Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LoudproudamericanLoud Proud American Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/loud_proud_american/Loud Proud American TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@loud_proud_americanLoud Proud American YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmYQtOt6KVURuySWYQ2GWtwThank you for Supporting My American Dream!

I'm so thrilled to introduce Dr. Sarah Perkins to you on The Joy of SUP Podcast!Sarah is a wildlife biologist at Cardiff University whose work focuses on wildlife diseases. She works mostly outdoors, in the field, collecting data on everything from small wild mice to (extremely large) polar bears, but no matter the size of the study animal, she's always got her eyes on the community that lives on, or in, her study species; the parasites. When not studying disease transfer in wildlife, Sarah is a keen SUP surfer and racer living on the Pembrokeshire coast. In recent years Sarah has combined her love of SUP with that of science, finding that her SUP works well as a floating laboratory for her marine research. Over the last 10 years Sarah has been carrying out research on the health of a small, remote coral reef community in Tobago. The SUP has become an important part of the research equipment used, with it not only being the form of transport to the study sites, but a platform from which to observe the reef and collect samples.  Back in the UK, Sarah is an advocate for wildlife conservation, education and responsible engagement. She can frequently be spotted paddling her SUP while wearing a mask and snorkel; ready to jump off and explore the underwater world. Here is a link to the cleaner fish on Kathryn Ellen Whittey's You Tube that Sarah mentions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGysteqPDNY&list=UUhXwpcds97F259nXaPI7KWg&index=8In this episode we talk about the iNaturalist app and how we can all add to the scientific data on wildlife. Solving Life's Next Chapter

In today's, "Solving Life's Next Chapter" we speak with Sarah Perkins with Lawyers Title of Arizona. Sarah breaks down why Arizona is still one of the most affordable places to live and if we truly are in a "BUBBLE". In order to understand affordability, we have to look at what is happening across the country and locally. Affordability is measured nationally but felt local, here in Arizona:*AZ is a top destination*250-300 new residents a day moving to Phoenix metro area*The majority of people coming to the greater Phoenix Metro area are leaving southern California, mostly Los Angeles County, and San Diego County. People are leaving NYC, Chicago, Southern CA, Seattle for cheaper living and sunshine. (Slide #1)*Over 50% of the people moving here are over 55*People moving here can afford more expensive homes*52% of incoming people make over $100K a year (slide#2)https://www.unitedvanlines.com/newsro...Arizona is running advertising campaigns inviting more and more people to leave the west coast for Arizona and it is working. Our job growth is nearly 2.5 times the rest of the country over the past 20 years. (Slide #3)https://www.nahb.org/News-and-Economi...Sarah Explains that when people cannot afford to buy homes or move up when they need a bigger home, we run into some big problems. One of the coolest things about homeownership is the path to wealth. Nothing creates wealth the way homeownership does. (Slide #4)If our homeownership rates continue dropping as they have over the past 10 years, we have the potential of causing some massive changes to the US economy. The national homeownership rate is around 63%. It is a tough number to move because they are so many Americans. However, when you look at that number, a couple of drops can put us close to the 50% mark. When we as a country hit 50% homeownership rates then it is likely that some of the extra perks of homeownership could go away. When you have a country that is made up of 50% renters, which means the voters will be 50% renters and likely many of the congressmen will be renters. This could affect new policy and adjustments of current policy benefiting homeownership. As homeowners, we love having our values rise but in order for real estate to continue to be 13% of GDP, we need to make it an option for renters to become homeowners, and affordability is the biggest hurdle. (Slide #5)If a renter expects to stay in the same place for 3-5 years, it is in their best interest to buy. Even if they have to pay a little more than what they could spend on rent, they will come out ahead. Using the example below, if a renter pays about $200 more per month to buy the median home today in Maricopa County, without any increase in value, after 5 years the owner will have $40,000 in equity, and that is based on 0 appreciation. If there is modest appreciation, like 2%, after 5 years that the same homeowner now has $70,000 in equity! (Slide #6) With all this, really NOW is the time to buy, even if it takes a little longer due to inventory. If you would like additional information on today's podcast, please contact Sarah Perkins. In today's podcast, Solving life's Next Chapter, we talk about title nightmares with Sarah Perkins of Lawyer's Title of Arizona. As a Certified Senior and Probate Real Estate Specialist, I have seen many title issues on homes. Usually, these title nightmares and issues do not get caught until the homeowner or their family has to sell. Today's podcast, we talk about why someone would want to make sure they have a clean and clear title. Why is using a quick claim deed not a good idea, and many more title nightmares to stay away from? I welcome you to listen in!

The causes of heat waves are kind of like the controls on a car. We know that pressure systems, land-atmosphere interactions, and modes of variability like ENSO act to control extremes, just as we know that the steering wheel, moderated by the brake and gas pedals, controls the direction and velocity of the car. Yesterday was another big day for the CIF softball and baseball playoffs. St. Joseph softball had a long drive and a long game but strong pitching from Skylar Johnson led the Knights past Santa Paula. We take a look at their path forward in the postseason. Unfortunately the St. Joseph baseball team and the Santa Ynez softball team were eliminated from the playoffs. We talk about their games and the state of north county baseball and softball. It seems like a down year for North County representatives in the CIF playoffs, is this just a down cycle or start of a trend? The CIF Track 'Masters Meet' is set and Sarah Perkins from Santa Ynez made it in shot put, how did the rest of the field turn out? Will any other area athletes make it? And finally, the Elk's Rodeo is about a week away and they have already crowned some winners. Elliott Stern talks about Miss Santa Maria Rodeo and Miss Mini Rodeo who were named this weekend at the Unocal Event Center, talks about some of the upcoming events and takes another look at the 'Denim and Diamonds' anniversary edition of the Rodeo. Please find some links and notes from the 2 Regular Guys Podcast. Every year in January, Terry and Aaron take a look forward at what we would like to see in the industry for the coming year. The ideas range from new products to new techniques, to new ways of doing business. We even call out some folks from time to time. Don't miss this lively show and listen to what the 2 Regular Guys want for our industry. Plus enjoy some new fun segments for 2018! Sponsored by: SGIA.org | ThreadX - Palm Springs, CA February 25-28, 2018 Our regular listeners know this, but 2 Regular Guys are all about garment decorating, a bit of fun, and no rants or lectures or selling. We are not doing this for our employers, but rather for our industry. Since February 2013, The 2 Regular Guys have been the first and the most listened to garment decorating industry podcast on this planet! We are humbled by all of you tuning in each week. We work hard to bring you information that will make your business better, and our industry better. Take a look at our incredible weekly guest list and you'll understand where this industry goes for news, interviews and the heartbeat of garment decorating. Thanks for listening!   10 Things for 2018 1) Terry: I'd like to see more of the industry pros (not just a person with a video camera) produce how-to YouTube videos. And wouldn't it be great if like in Twitter we could have the Verified User symbol attached that says, “This person actually has experience and this is good information.” Maybe an SGIA Verified logo would be the symbol of expertise for the industry. Erich Campbell ·  Can't agree enough about the video thing; many groups are thinking in the same way and creating groups of solid consultants Erich Campbell ·  It's happening in the vendor space as well, but I can see having a more independent group of experts, too. Bruce Basen ·  Like the verified idea 2) Aaron:  I'd like to see a Sublimation Committee at SGIA. The garment committee is awesome, and they are doing some great thing with SGIA like the upcoming ThreadX and I think they have some great sublimation representation in people like Chris Bernet from Vapor. But I think Sublimation as a decorating technique of things outside of garments is growing and will continue to bridge more and more decorating challenges with things like single pass print technology and vacuum press opportunities. Side Note - I just wanted to give a shout out to Ford Bowers and the team at SGIA. I have been very impressed with the direction of things since Ford took over and for all the staff there that has embraced his changes. You have amazing people that have been there for a while like Johnny Shell and Sondra Fry Benoudiz and Marci Kinter who continue to serve the industry and are embracing the changes. There are so many people there to list everyone, but people like Sarah Perkins who is heading up the SGIA side of ThreadX, Ray Weis, Erin Nuss and Dan Marx who are doing some amazing stuff with SGIA's educational programs. The list goes on an on. Kudos and keep it up. 3) Terry: I think I covered this a couple years ago, but I'd love to see a reasonably priced direct-to-screen machine. Besides the film savings at about $1.00 per sheet, you would also have screens with images burned in the exact same position for all colors, and no risk of flipping the film backward. And… no storage of films, just storage of your digital files. If you can buy a commercial quality direct-to-garment printer for $15,000, why not a direct-to-screen printer. Bruce Basen ·  Check out the Saati LTS 4) Aaron: There are some really good educational opportunities and people that do it very well. Like Terry mentioned in his first thing we need a way to sift through it all. Some of it is on Youtube, Some of it is on Facebook, some of it is in written format, some of it is seminars and some of it is actual hands-on classes. Honestly,

Tying your business and your niche market to it makes the process easier because of your market knowledge and more fun. From Erich in the chat. “Promoting as an insider; people can see how genuine you are.” Shirt of the Month Justin Lawrence from Oklahoma Shirt Company. This niche came up during an interview and I think it bears repeating. Schools, but doing a Better Job My daughter is a Junior at a local Scottsdale HS and she was telling me about her experience getting her school shirt for the year. I've talked to printers during seminars who just do a better job! An idea doesn't have to be unique, you just have to do it better. Taking it on the Road I met a couple in Charlotte who basically said to me, “We want to take it on the road. Can we do that with your machine?” Their daughter is in competitive cheer and they wanted to combine a business with their regular travels. My response was, “Why not?” Do you travel for your kids' events, or maybe travel for your own events like car shows, competition shooting, or a million other passions. Partnering with Radio Stations Talking to a screen printer recently who talked about all the business introductions he got by doing shirts for a local radio station. Special broadcast events and backstage passes were just as important to this printer as the trade of shirts of advertising. 20 Ideas Sit down and make a list of 20 unique concepts or places for selling garments. Don't stop until you write 20 ideas, without judging the quality of your list. 2 Regular Guys Talking Decoration Chat Room Erich Campbell: Good morning, guys! :) 2 Regular Guys: Welcome in Erich! Speaking this year, too! 2 Regular Guys: Wahoo! Erich Campbell: That's a fantastic idea for a category, guys.
