Doch die Ankunft des Anwalts Alexander McSween und des angehenden Rinderzüchters John H. Age 14: OrphanAge 15: InmateAge 16: OutlawAge 17: KillerIn 1870s New Mexico, the territory is at a crossroads. The indigenous population is being driven out—and driven down—by the white settlers migrating west after the Civil War. The center of power isn't the governor but rather the Santa Fe Ring, a group of wealthy politicians, businessman, and landowners who exercise power through organized crime, theft, graft, and murder. Their main source of income is a mercantile store in Lincoln known as the House. After escaping jail, William Bonney—a.k.a. Billy the Kid—is a seventeen-year-old orphan who's been on the run for the better part of two years. All he wants is to belong—to find a place he can call home and people he can call family. He'd have been better off alone.Billy falls in with a gang of ruthless rustlers and murderers who work as muscle for the House. But when Billy crosses one of the members, the gang sets out to kill him.Billy narrowly escapes, finding refuge under the tutelage of John Tunstall, an English immigrant new to the territory who has his sights set on opening a business in Lincoln—and he's intent on competing directly with the House. But when Tunstall is murdered, any positive effect the mentor had on Billy is eradicated, leaving the Kid with only one thing on his mind …Revenge. From orphan to outlaw to killer, this is the untold story behind the legend of Billy the Kid.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Cole Abercrombie is the chapter president at Tunstall FFA in Dry Fork, Virginia. He also operates his own "side hustle" mowing lawns and taking care of people's yards. And, he has one of the purest views on community service that I have ever profiled on this show. As if that were not enough, he has a passion for agriculture and farming that spans multiple states and multiple lines of his family. Cole actually lives in a city and not a farm. However, he has family that farms about 2.5 hours south of him in North Carolina and 25 hours west of him in Nebraska. While he doesn't get as much time on those farms as he would like, he knows every detail about what they are doing, at both places. This only happens if you are truly passionate about something. Otherwise, you just don't retain all the knowledge that Cole has. The area of Virginia that Cole comes from is largely agricultural and rural. So, the needs and values of that region are not recognized as frequently in the state legislature because there aren't as many representatives from there. Cole's future goals include being a voice for the folks of this region. He is hoping to go to law school after obtaining and agricultural business degree. Among his goals as a attorney are to advocate for agriculture and this region of Virginia, and to have an impact on policy that represents agriculture positively!

Chris Tunstall co-founded A Bar Above with his wife Julia in 2013. They were early into the online content game with their YouTube channel and broke into the podcast space in 2014, the same year they released the first online Mixology Certification course. They've gone on to create several other classes on subjects like batching, syrups, infusions, and more.In 2016, they moved into the barware world, designing and manufacturing tools that looked great and more importantly, didn't fail (or “suck”, my word) during the middle of service. Chris pointed out that because of manufacturing faults, things as basic as the 1 oz mark on a jigger, can at times be off the mark by 20%, which is wild. And even worse, what if the 1 oz mark is spot on but the 1/2 or 1/4 oz mark is? Then one measurement may be off while the other is on.* Note: during our conversation, Chris mentioned that when he tested jiggers, Oxo was one of the worst offenders when it came to inaccurate measurement markings. Since I use them, I was alarmed. It appears that this error was corrected by the time I purchased mine. I weighed out a 1/4, 1/2, and an ounce worth of water in them in grams on my scale and they checked out. Do you know someone who might enjoy this? Please share it.He also explained to me why A Bar Above's original Boston shaker, a combination of a weighted and unweighted shaker, helps keep egg white from foaming out of the shaker, which is a problem I have faced for years.Another flaw, as Chris pointed out, is how pieces of metal are fused. A Bar Above welds things like their jiggers and shakers completely around the perimeter. Whereas others (see photos) are only spot welded. This makes it easier for them to break or for water to seep in and ultimately corrode the tool from the outside in.Chris also spent some time talking about the financial and social importance of bars cultivating regulars. They'll help keep your seats filled and often make your space more welcoming, and when a bartender is in the weeds, regulars can keep each other occupied as opposed to needing to lean on the bartender for social support. Chris and www.abarabove.com which he founded with his wife Julia, is a bit of a legend. They've been cranking out top-notch online education centered around spirits, cocktails and mixology since 2013, with 661 (!) videos on YouTube and over 200 podcast episodes (including one with me, about gin & genever - link below!), all building on Chris' decade-plus career bartending in San Francisco's Bay Area and his desire to give young bartenders the education and tools he didn't have when he was coming up. Today the company produces sought-after high-quality barware and has launched a number of in-depth online mixology training courses on their website. Chris is an enormously affable chap, and we kick it about the next steps after bartending, doing the future you a solid, finding factories on Alibaba, the nerdy details of jigger construction, the even nerdier details of shaker construction and (I couldn't stop him by this stage) the staggeringly nerdy details of Lewis bag construction, why only one of your tins should be weighted for shaking with eggwhites, building your 'rizz, making your life easier by actively cultivating regulars, serving your listeners, and much, much more. Sarah Tunstall is a survivor and advocate against human trafficking. Her journey began at the age of 15 when she was recruited into the sex trade by a friend. Already distanced from her family, Sarah found herself trapped in a tumultuous cycle for the next two and a half years, as two different traffickers controlling her life. Having been cut off from social connections, rebuilding her life became a daunting task. Today, Sarah uses her lived experience to support and empower other young people who have fallen victim to human trafficking. As a role model, she has learned the importance of being vulnerable and speaking her truth beyond the shame that once frightened her into silence. We are grateful to share a few minutes with this outstanding young woman and share her heartfelt passion for ensuring that no one else has to endure the same struggles she faced — or at least not alone.

Since R2Kast 113 (32 ago - which is only 4 months btw) I haven't uploaded video, now the reason for this is MAINLY that dealing with the best part of 10 hours of video a month is a lot, I had iPads, iPhones and my Mac all uploading at once. However I should have made an exception today!!

How can exhibition teams help to decolonize design? What are the pitfalls cultural organizations should watch out for in their DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) initiatives? What's a supertoken and why are cluster hires a better strategy? And what does it mean to approach the process indigenous-first? The new book, “Decolonizing Design: A Cultural Justice Guidebook” offers answers to all these questions and more, thanks to author Dr. Dori Tunstall. Now starting her own consulting firm, Dori was previously the dean of the faculty of design at OCAD in Toronto. She was also the first black dean of a faculty of design anywhere. In this episode, Dr. Tunstall joins host Jonathan Alger (Managing Partner, C&G Partners) to talk about her new book, what it means for the field of design, and how listeners can begin their own process of “decolonizing design” — from understanding the deep roots of the issue, all the way to writing smarter job postings.Guest Bio:Elizabeth "Dori" Tunstall is a design anthropologist, researcher, academic leader, writer, and educator. The biggest contributors to farm accidents are probably impatience and complacency. Getting in a hurry, or thinking that danger doesn't exist just because nothing has ever happened before can lead one into a dangerous situation. On today's show we are profiling the farm safety education philosophy of the Tunstall FFA Chapter in Dry Fork, Virginia. Dr. Jessica Jones, the FFA Advisor and her colleagues have figured out that impatience and complacency can be overcome by keeping safety in the front of one's mind. If you think safety first, then your chances of not overlooking a dangerous aspect of your job go way up. Two of Jessica's students, Chapter President - Cole Abercrombie as well as sophomore member - Zac Chaney join me on the show today. They will talk about farming in their area, what they see as some of the biggest risks and how farm safety is taught in every agriculture class at Tunstall, regardless of whether or not it is Farm Safety Week.
Design theory helps us understand how and why visual information impacts us the way that it does, and how we communicate and receive that information via the design choices we encounter. It affects how we relate to new art and technology, what we buy, and who we uplift in our society. But how have we arrived at the current norms of modernist design, and which voices have been at the forefront of establishing these practices? In her book Decolonizing Design: A Cultural Justice Guidebook, author Dori Tunstall sets out to challenge the paths through European-based standards and practices that have classically informed the design world. In historically excluding the cultures of Indigenous, Black, and People of Color communities, Tunstall argues that modernist design has oppressed the people whose lands and lives it sought to reshape, thus advancing the global project of colonization. This guidebook is focused on the transformation of design theory and practice by addressing these harms and recentering these communities globally across the realm of design. Tunstall stitches together over 15 years of research and lived experience in the design field, presenting a look at how understanding the decolonization effort offers infinite possibilities within the world of modernist design. Elizabeth (Dori) Tunstall is an educator, advocate, and leader within the intersectional design world. Her work has been featured in Print magazine, Fast Company, AIGA's Eye on Design, and Design Observer, among other venues. She currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Design at Ontario College of Art and Design University, Toronto, and is the first Black person to hold such a post globally. Lincoln County, New Mexico Territory was the setting of a brutal conflict between rival factions vying for control of the county's dry goods and cattle interests. The Lincoln County War, as it came to be known, began in 1878 and persisted until 1881, a time of lawlessness and bloodshed in the Old West. One side of the feud was led by James Dolan, a powerful figure who wielded a monopoly over dry goods through his establishment "The House". The other faction was established by English-born John Tunstall and his partner Alexander McSween, who opened their own competing store with support from established cattleman John Chisum. Both sides gathered lawmen, businessmen, and criminal gangs to their aid, setting the stage for a violent and deadly confrontation. The Dolan faction was aligned with Sheriff William J. Brady and supported by the notorious Jesse Evans Gang. The Tunstall-McSween faction organized their own armed posse, the Lincoln County Regulators, with their own lawmen in the form of town constable Richard M. Brewer and Deputy US Marshal Robert A. Widenmann. And of course the notorious Billy the Kid. The War was characterized by a series of brutal revenge killings, starting with the murder of Tunstall by members of a Dolan authorized posse and the Evans Gang. The Regulators retaliated by killing Sheriff Brady and others in a series of violent incidents. The conflict continued to escalate for several months, culminating in the epic five-day battle of Lincoln, which resulted in the death of McSween and the dispersal of the Regulators. William H. Bonney rode into Lincoln County a teenager on the run from a noose. By the time he came out of McSween's burning home, guns blazing, he was well on the way to becoming the legend known as Billy the Kid. This is part three in the series on Billy the Kid.
