This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris shrink down to talk about the 1989 classic Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary.Starring Rick Moranis in one of his most iconic roles, Wayne Szalinski, he's an inventor trying to perfect his latest gadget, a shrink ray that will reduce the size of objects. When his daughter Amy (Amy O'Neill) and Nick (Robert Oliveri) and the neighbors Little Russ (Thomas Wilson) and Ron Thompson (Jared Rushton) are accidentally shrunk and thrown out in the trash, the quartet of kids has to make their way through the massive backyard jungle to get back home. The guys talk about the awesome sets and practical effects, question why Wayne couldn't sell any of his other seemingly useful gadgets, the military applications of the shrink ray as a laser, the traumatic death of Antie, and more. You can stream Honey, I Shrunk the Kids on Disney+. If you're a child of the eighties, you'll remember Rick Moranis. He was one of the biggest comic stars of the era, with iconic roles in GHOSTBUSTERS I & II, HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS and many more. But, somewhere around the mid-nineties, Moranis seemed to drop off the map, vanishing from sight, only returning for the occasional voice role in things like Disney's BROTHER BEAR. In our latest edition of WTF Happened to This Celebrity, we try to figure out why Moranis seemingly abandoned his thriving Hollywood career. It turns out that Moranis simply decided to focus on things that were more important to him (family). We dig into this as well as his career origins on SCTV, where he and co-star Dave Thomas famously created the beer-swilling Canucks, Bob & Doug McKenzie, before hitting the big time with a feature film (STRANGE BREW) that remains a cult classic. From there, Moranis' career was on fire, with him taking over for John Candy as Louis Tully in GHOSTBUSTERS, before becoming an unlikely (and famous) leading man in his own comedies, including HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS (and its sequel HONEY, I BLEW UP THE KID), LITTLE GIANTS, PARENTHOOD, and more.
Katie and Bridget get shrunk (shrank?) as they re-watch the movie: Honey, I Shrunk The Kids! It's a horror movie all about the different ways four children could get murdered in their own backyard - erm, well no it's actually a children's film??? Same premise though! Come along as we meet siblings Amy, a high school girl who definitely has an infection from dancing with a mop, and her younger brother Nick, who just wants his Dad to love him but Dad ain't got time for that! They team up with their neighbors who are also siblings - Russell, who is just WAY TOO SHORT TO PLAY FOOTBALL, and Ron, who becomes best friends with an ant way too quickly and well... We're a little worried about him. The four are shrunk and they only survive the horrific traumas because of their dog Cork. Aka - dogs rule! Released in 1989, it stars our favorite 90's dad (although he sucks as a Dad in this movie) Rick Moranis!

In the new episode of Film Stories with Simon Brew, a pair of big hit movies, that each had their challenges to make. With The Expendables, Sylvester Stallone was on acting, writing and director duties. But he ended up with as many injuries as there were action stars in his film, and it'd be a taxing movie to make. Honey, I Shrunk The Kids was the brainchild of Re-animator director Stuart Gordon, and Chevy Chase had been earmarked for the lead. But Chase was busy, and when Gordon fell ill, a new director was required late in the day. Stories of both are told in this episode. The '80s gave us two major movies about shrinkage: "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids" and "Innerspace." The former was a wholesome, heartwarming, at times tragic tale of a family sticking together to survive. The latter—a sci-fi jumble of sexy Dennis Quaid, overly complicated tech, annoying Martin Short, and for some reason, a rabbit— is what we're reviewing today. "Innerspace" mixed impressive visual effects that gave us all warm fuzzies as we recalled our days at the science museum. And the chemistry between Short and Quaid led to some feel-good moments. But when Quaid was in Meg Ryan's body after being in her body, then saw his own overly developed child in her womb ... man, what the fuck? You probably haven't seen this movie. You probably won't see this movie. But we did. And we're here to tell you all about it. Honey, I Shrunk THe Kids was a live-action comedy/adventure released by Disney in 1989. It tells the story of an inventor who accidentally shrinks down his, and his neighbors' kids and they have to journey through their backyard to safety. The movie has a lot of horror elements and was making Disney nervous during production. This episode looks back on everything that went into making the movie and a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff you may not have been aware of! Show notes: Episode 22
