Send us a textKatie and Bridget light the bar on fire as they re-watch the very 2000's movie: Coyote Ugly! It's a movie all about how pursuing your dreams of becoming a famous song writer in NYC is EASY and will only take you about TWO MONTHS with absolutely NO PLANNING NEEDED! ...YEAH! Come along as we meet Violet, an aspiring song writer who has no job, a shitty apartment, and no plans, but moves to NYC anyway even though she's from South Amboy NJ and could have just taken the train in(?). But don't worry, when she gets a job at the Coyote Ugly, a sexy bar that is definitely not up to code, she'll build up the confidence she needs to sing in front of people - via weird karaoke! With the help of her possible boyfriend Kevin, a guy who likes having sex in front of cardboard cutouts; her dad, the best character in the movie; and Lil, the owner of the Coyote Ugly who may or may not have the hots for her; she'll discover what it takes to be a star! Let's face it, we're all just waiting for the LeAnn Rimes song at the end! Released in 2000, it stars Piper Perabo, Adam Garcia, John Goodman, Maria Bello, Izabella Miko, Tyra Banks, Melanie Lynskey, and Bridget Moynahan.

Clayton Jones II and Shawn Murphy (Men Who Like Men Who Like Movies Podcast) are retaking their guest seats for a breakdown of The Prestige. Adapted from the Christopher Priest novel of the same name, this 2006 mystery-thriller follows the increasingly hostile and obsessive rivalry between a pair of talented stage magicians in 1890s London. Talking points for this episode include nitpicking the movie's unrealistic depiction of drowning, Clayton's distaste for The Illusionist, and the hosts' favorite Michael Caine roles in a Christopher Nolan movie. Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Prestige stars Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Hall, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine, David Bowie, Andy Serkis, Piper Perabo, Samantha Mahurin, Roger Rees, Jim Piddock, William Morgan Sheppard, Ricky Jay, Chao Li Chi, and Edward Hibbert. Award-winning actor Emmanuelle Vaugier stars in Hallmark Channel's movie sequel Big Sky River: The Bridal Path which premieres on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries in the US and W Network in Canada on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 9:00 pm. The movie is particularly special for Emmanuelle as she gets to combine her love of acting with her love for horses. Emmanuelle may be best known for her popular role as Charlie Sheen's ex-fiancée Mia in the award-winning CBS comedy Two and a Half Men. For three seasons she also played Detective Jessica Angell on CSI: NY, leaving fans devastated when her role came to an end.  For five seasons Emmanuelle was the vain and dangerously sociopathic character of the Morrigan on the innovative series Lost Girl. Emmanuelle was cast alongside Piper Perabo in the USA Network crime series Covert Affairs, where she played Liza Hearn, a journalist and blogger not afraid to push boundaries. She was also on the AT&T original series Rogue as Assistant District Attorney Regan Faulker alongside Cole Hauser (Yellowstone). Other television appearances include her portrayal of Jane in the two-hour pilot of the adaptation of the comic Painkiller Jane, and a starring role in The CW comedy My Guide to Becoming a Rockstar. She has also heavily recurred on TV shows such as The CW's dramas Smallville and One Tree Hill, as well as Mistresses on ABC and the FOX series Human Target.  Recently, Emmanuelle played Sarah, a smart and accomplished professional in the television series The Potwins starring opposite Kevin Sorbo, and appeared in the comedic television series Millennial Mafia as Francesca, a female mob boss who must manage a group of young adults who are thrust into adulthood when their mob-boss parents are sent to jail.   Emmanuelle's feature film endeavors are impressive with a number of credits to her name, including Saw ll, Saw IV, Secondhand Lions, with Michael Caine and Robert Duvall, 40 Days and 40 Nights, with Josh Hartnett, Susie's Hope (a role for which she won best actress at the Greensville International Film Festival), It's Christmas Carol! (which earned her a Leo Award) opposite Carrie Fisher, and Absolute Deception alongside Cuba Gooding Jr., to name a few. Emmanuelle is adding voice-over actor to her list of projects as well, with many fans remembering her portrayal of the character Nikki in Need for Speed Carbon EA's #1-grossing video game worldwide.   Emmanuelle's inner and outer beauty shines through as she is among the select group of women to be featured on ‘Maxim‘s Top 100' list twice. She was also named fifth on Femme Fatal magazine's 50 Sexiest Women on the Planet', and was named ‘Sexiest Woman Alive' for the sixth time by Smartasses Magazine. If you listen to this podcast, you know that suburban women are a key voting bloc coming into the midterm elections. And they are fired up – about abortion rights, about their kids' schools, about voting rights, and so much more. So this week, we're taking a moment to talk about what exactly is on suburban women's minds right now. One of our favorite organizers, Julie Womack, drops by the pod to discuss what she's been hearing on the ground. Rachel adds what she's been hearing from women on her Troublemaker Tour, and Jasmine and Amanda talk about what they've been hearing in their communities. Everyone agrees that pundits and the media get a lot wrong about suburban women, like the idea that we'll “forget” about reproductive rights, or that we'll just vote with our husbands. (If anything, it's the other way around! Republicans are starting to have not just a Suburban Women Problem, but a Dad Problem as well.)Rachel then sits down with Sarah Longwell of The Focus Group podcast. Sarah recently ran a focus group with suburban women and she shares those findings with Rachel. She also chats about her “flippers” – women who voted for Trump in 2016 and Biden in 2020 – and how she thinks they're likely to vote this year. Finally, Amanda, Jasmine and Rachel raise a glass to working parents, attending the Congressional Black Caucus conference, and to Amanda's daughter getting to see the White House in this episode's “Toast to Joy.”With the election just around the corner, it's time to organize... like a woman! That means digging deep, getting vulnerable, and finding our courage. On Monday, October 10, Abbi Jacobson from A League of Their Own and Piper Perabo from Yellowstone are joining forces with Red Wine & Blue because they believe in the power of women supporting women. In the premiere episode of Single Serving Cinema, Tim and Tay explore a deceptively simple and highly functional scene in the spiraling, multi-layered narrative of Christopher Nolan's The Prestige. The Prestige tells the story of two rival stage magicians in Victorian-era London, and their obsessive pursuits to gain superiority, no matter the cost. Directed by Christopher Nolan, starring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, The Prestige was released on Oct. 20, 2006.The Prestige is available to stream on Disney+, and as a digital rental.   Scene (0:13:27- 16:02)Featuring Hugh Jackman as Robert Angier, Christian Bale as Alfred Borden, Piper Perabo as Julia Angier, and Michael Caine as Cutter. The scene is set backstage following a successful, but apparently, "boring", act by Milton, a show magician that the quartet all work for. Borden largely drives the conversation regarding the lack of originality in Milton's show, while Angier questions Borden's morality and his bluntness on the subject. Cutter calls out Borden for using the incorrect knot on Julia during the act and further arguments of professionalism, showmanship and secrecy arise.Links16:32: “Secret of the Magus”, a New Yorker profile of Ricky JayRecommendationsTim: Burning, (Lee Chang-dong, 2018)  — available on Amazon PrimeTay: Eastern Promises, (David Cronenberg, 2007) — available on Amazon Prime  All links verified at the time of publication and based on availability in Canada.

Today's episode is a special one as I had the opportunity to reconnect with an old teammate and friend from university. My guest, Warren Christie and I played football together at the University of Windsor in Canada many years ago.  Warren has a very unique story and is a great example of somebody willing to leap into the unknown to pursue a dream. You will learn all about his story in today's episode. Warren has been a film actor for nearly 2 decades and has earned roles in several TV series over the years including October Road and The Village. He recently starred alongside Candace Cameron Bure in the movie ‘If I Only Had Christmas' which was just released this past week in Canada and on Thanksgiving Day weekend in the US. As well, he has been in several other movies over the years. What I appreciate about this conversation with Warren is his willingness to speak honestly and openly about his journey and what he has come to learn about himself through the process of trying to improve and get better every day at developing his craft as a film actor. With the uncertainty of his profession and the fact that he will no doubt fail over and over again, Warren has displayed not only deep resilience but also tremendous gratitude for being able to do the work he does.  In this episode we dive into the weeds of what it means to be in the spotlight and what it takes to step up and perform at your best in high stakes environments. As well, Warren shares how he best prepares for his roles and the tools he must develop within himself to be able to bounce back from failure and to be in the present moment, as much as possible, when filming. It was so good to sit down and reconnect with Warren. Lots of great memories from our days together playing football, but more importantly, a great conversation about life, learning, passion, and resilience. About WarrenWarren Christie was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, but spent most of his childhood in London, Ontario.  He left London for Windsor after being recruited to play college football.  It was during these years that Christie developed his love for performing and decided to pursue it as a career.  This decision led him to Vancouver, where his rugged good looks and keen acting ability quickly landed him desirable leading roles. In 2005, Christie landed a lead role on the series “October Road,” playing a cocky construction company owner.  Last year, Christie had the chance to stretch his performing abilities when he was cast as the star of the musical feature film “The Magical Flute Diaries,” based on one of Mozart's operas.  Christie recently wrapped filming on ABC's pilot “Prince of Motor City,” a gothic family drama in which he stars along side Aiden Quinn and Piper Perabo.Christie's ability to embody diverse characters is evident in the variety of roles he takes on and masters.  He played opposite Heather Graham in the romantic comedy “Gray Matters,” and then switched gears with his next project, the psychological thriller “Beneath,” produced by the group that did “Napoleon Dynamite” in conjunction with MTV Films/Paramount Classics. Christie has also lent his talents to numerous television shows, including “Supernatural,” “The L Word,” “Battlestar Galactica” and the ABC series “The Days.”  Christie's future plan is to pursue character-driven roles in Canadian and American film.Connect With WarrenTwitter: https://twitter.com/HWarrenChristieInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewarrenchristie/?hl=enSpecial thanks to Bronx band Conversing with Oceans & Alex Bondarev for creating the podcast music. https://www.conversingwithoceans.com/
