In looking at her family's genealogy it turns out Margaret's family had high-profile slave traders hidden in their past. Margaret decided to write a book and got connected with John W. Jones, an acclaimed artist from Columbia. In less than a  year John looked through old newspaper ads past the ink on the old newspapers into the souls of the slaves who were being sold painting over 60 paintings to depict the people who in those advertisements. Margaret's book ended up helping create a growing movement bridging the gap between the races. As far as stocking the store they decided to drop the teen clothing and go fully into gifts and baby items. Early on before opening the shop Jennifer and Mary went out and met local artisans in the area by going to different pop up shops, and then later Jennifer described how Mary is so involved in shopping for the store's products along with her friends who also help out in that respect and more.
