On today’s episode, I chat with Jeanine Staples; scholar, educator, coach, and founder of the ‘Supreme Love Project’. This project supports successful women that are seeking help to get out of toxic relationships; and helping them gain back a healthy relationship with themselves. Through her program, Jeanine empowers women to recondition themselves from old, socially developed ideas surrounding love, to become independent, happy, and fulfilled individuals. It’s time to do the things that fill you up, warriors! On this episode we dive into: What it means to stay in your own power. Recognizing signs of self-abandonment. What ultimately happens when you prioritize your partner before yourself. How to get out of painful patterns in your relationships. How to get into a passionate relationship with yourself. Getting clear of your worth and value, independent from the world around you. The take-home: Many women have socially developed ideas surrounding love, which can consequently lead to having toxic relationships. Instead, it’s important that women shift into a space of feeling their true power within and making decisions for themselves. To make sure you step fully out of old patterns, she suggests asking yourself a few questions before making a decision. Are you clear and awake in your decision making? Is your decision making coming from a place of faith and power? Or is your decision making coming from a place of pain and fear? Get clear, and then follow your calling, warriors! Soul-fueled Awakening Jeanine Staples, our soul sister, joins for an inspiring conversation about her journey, mission, and how we can connect with self-love. Jeanine likes to mediate way before dawn, work out like a soldier, and shop alone. She prefers rum to wine, jeans to skirts, and likes her heels sky high (except when she’s wearing cowboy boots). Every year she asks her stylist to cornrow and bead her hair in homage to Patrice Rushen and Stevie Wonder (if you know of these artists and understand why demonstrating embodied respect for them is important, you two can probably be friends). She believes in ghosts, fairies, and hobbits (for real). Musically, she vibes to old school everything (hip hop, R&B, jazz, rock, and classical) and especially digs Hildegard von Bingen. A lot of women are superficially taught self-love. NEWS FLASH: self-love doesn’t mean self-care. The idea of unconditional love for Jeanine came from the pages of scripture. We understand what unconditional love from God means. If unconditional is the ultimate love, how can we give that to ourselves? We are all nuanced, layered, and multi-dimensional. Digging through all of your layers, and finding them all beautiful and magnificent is part of our responsibility. We have to accept these dimensions so that we can approve the imperfectly perfect saintly version of us. It is impossible for a person to merely accept their imperfections. However, you can tap into your spiritual force and look at yourself through the eyes of God - that is where you will find acceptance. Jeanine gives us simple questions that we can ask ourselves to do the deep dive: How do I hurt? How do I hurt others? How do I feel? Stay tuned as we discuss how our feminine energy is functioning during COVID and why we need to maximize our moment. In light of the current social justice movement + Revolution for the liberation of Black American's, I have decided to re-release some of the most impactful and enlightening conversations I have had on the podcast with Black women and men.    These are conversations that have educated and inspired listeners over the years, and my hope is that now that an even brighter light is being shone upon the issues covered in these conversations- they will continue to deepen our understanding of the current tasks at hand.    As many of you know, Jeanine Staples is a force to be reckoned with, and a woman I have called a friend and teacher for years. She was one our most talked about 2019 Ignite Your Soul Summit speakers, and the work she is doing in the world is unparalleled. We had this conversation back in 2017, and white supremacy and white privilege were two of the many topics we covered back then, making this a really powerful discussion to bring back into the light today. Jeanine stunned the world (and me) with her TED Talk, “How To Die Peacefully”, when she challenged the notion that humans are born, they live and then they die. No- Jeanine believes we are born and then we die a thousand tiny deaths. She claims, we can only learn to live, when we learn to die those deaths peacefully. … and this is just what I learned before our conversation. Dr. Jeanine Staples is the Associate Professor of Literacy and Language, African American Studies, and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Penn State University. She is the founder of “The Supreme Love Project” , a movement which seeks to embolden marginalized people to heal their souls and liberate themselves. Not to mention, she is a genius, a soul excavator, a humanist and an all around “Be Your OWN Hero”, kind of Wonder Woman. I am beyond thrilled and honored to share this conversation with you. I just know that these words will touch you in a way that could literally shift the way you live your life, today- if you let them. So, grab a notebook for this one, sit down, and get ready to let it all sink in to your soma (how Jeanine refers to our bodies) and your souls. I hope you find this conversation as powerful as I do.  In This Episode You Will Learn: How our to heal our soul terrors and begin our own Personal Liberation Project Why seeking external affirmation can only lead to suffering What it means to “Go Deeper” The truth about our conditioned fear of experiencing pain How to teach our children to understand their body and their pain How your unconscious beliefs about money hold you back from being free What it means to own your womanhood What your “lover identity” is How to begin to stand up for social injustices and become a voice for for the voiceless Soul Shifting Quotes:  “My generation of terror was so complete and so huge, I didn't have that ability to bide my time and create a status quo. I had to break.” “I was at what I thought was my bottom. And the voice of God, the Holy Spirit said… “Go deeper.” “There's so many of us who run from pain. It's suffering that we need to cease, not pain. Suffering is this long term uninterrupted source of despair without hope. That's what we need to move away from. But pain, pain is actually what we need to generate bigger emotional muscle. To grow the capacity to go deeper.” “Let your child get attuned to their body. Because their bodies are instruments for their emotionality.” “Our salvation and our liberation project would not exist, unless there was something we were in bondage to. And that bondage is your pain. Best to become really enamored with it.” “You can only be satiated from the inside out.” “Do I feel real? Or do I feel like I am wearing labels and descriptions that had been given to me.” “I had to really do the work of saying, I am not the woman I want to be. I am not the woman I say I am. And I want to be congruent. I want to BE that person, and not perform that person. “Your interior life is the precedent to any other exterior attachment or endeavor that you want to take part of.”   Links Mentioned:  Links Mentioned:    Learn my 7 Secrets to Uplevel Your Brand & Land Your Dream Clients    Grab your FREE training, How to Call in Your Tribe + Create Content that Converts  Text me at 603-931-4386 Learn more about Jeanine by following her on Instagram: @jeaninestaples Learn more about Jeanine's offerings at jeaninestaples.com   Tag me in your big shifts + takeaways: @amberlilyestrom Did you hear something you loved here today?! Be sure to listen to this short episode/lovenote I created for you — I explain all about this bonus part of the Holiday Challenge Podcast, and more... The Holiday Challenge was amazing, thanks to you! I’m so thankful you’re part of our sisterhood community, as we practice self-care and use it as the foundation for our businesses, and our lives... I know you’ll love these powerful bonus mentors — and their challenges!  Check out our Holiday Challenge bonus episodes: Emily Cassel Craft the exact kind of upcoming year you want to have, all in a way that’s both soulful and strategic. As a Leadership + Business coach, Emily supports ambitious women entrepreneurs as they embrace soulful strategies for success so they can create more impact (and income) in business and beyond. Jump into Emily’s challenge and create more spaciousness in your life and work. Anna Goldstein Imagine being able to help your clients live out their full potential, just by encouraging them to be more kind! Inspiring, isn’t it? In this challenge, we talk about the energy of kindness, what’s happened in my life because of the kindness of sisterhood — and what can happen for you, too!  Sydney Campos Today’s challenge is so beautifully simple that, as Sydney herself says in the episode, you might wonder whether there’s something missing!  But don’t be fooled — Sydney’s invitation for us will actually uncover insights within each of us about what we truly desire. What unmet needs do you have, deep down? Sydney’s challenge will unlock them. Molly Nichols You’ll be inspired by this challenge with Molly, a renowned fertility coach and healer, when you hear that (just like you) I experience moments of fear of comparison around putting myself out there in the world through my coaching business. And I have a feeling Molly’s challenge will take you by surprise! Jeanine Staples This challenge is perfect for the busy times of year when it’s so easy to rely on a to-do list and live life on autopilot. Dr. Jeanine Staples, isn’t going to let us get away with that! Her refreshing challenge is easy to implement and also has big results. Allison Braun Allison began her business as a sexual expression coach, known by her clients as the Bedroom Joyologist. She quickly noticed her clients were starving for more enjoyment, pleasure and ease — not just in the bedroom but in their careers and businesses, too. Allison’s challenge is all about how pleasure can be productive. Lisa Fraley & Genevieve Shingle Jaffe This challenge from Lisa and Gena — attorneys who specialize in working with creative female entrepreneurs — is all about setting you and your business up for success in the new year. It’s different than goal setting because it has to do with taking simple actions that we normally avoid because they feel heavy or stressful. Don’t miss this info-packed challenge! Ali Shanti Also known as Alexis Neely, Ali calls herself a “truth-telling lawyer and a business priestess.” In this challenge, she talks about creating a positive relationship with the legal, insurance, financial, and tax systems in your business so things run smoothly — PLUS guidance around coming into right relationship with your entrepreneurial archetype. Rachel Pesso Website designer Rachel’s challenge is all about creating a vision to help you recognize your own inner light. Nurturing yourself through self-care gives you the inner resources to step into your power as a business owner and a leader. What a brilliant way to set the tone for this coming year when you finally become a sought-after life coach! Lisa Fabrega Coach and courage curator Lisa’s challenge is all about the energy of commitment. We talk about what can happen for you if you choose to commit yourself to be here and present in the new year! Julie Santiago Today’s challenge from Julie, a Wall Streeter turned women's empowerment coach, especially inspirational, as it asks us to look inward and ask ourselves: What are we contributing? You might notice Julie and I are both a little giddy, not only about our budding friendship, but about how invigorating it feels to use our gifts to be of service. Jennifer Racioppi Jennifer is a coach with expertise in astrology, positive psychology and women's health — and her challenge is one of the most important things we can do to honor the many different religious, spiritual, ancestral and personal beliefs we share in this powerful sisterhood.   Hillary Weiss Copywriter extraordinaire Hillary’s challenge is all about how to uncover YOUR personal point of view — and get seen and heard when you put it all into action with a social share. You’re going to love this! Andrea Owen You may recognize Andrea Owen as host of the podcast “Your Kick Ass Life.” She’s got a simple and energizing challenge for you. I love Andrea’s wisdom in this episode, including: “As we practice letting go of behaviors like perfectionism, control, isolating, people pleasing and numbing out— courage is practiced instead. And courage breeds confidence and happiness.” She’s got a simple and energizing challenge for you! Sora Surya No Sora’s challenge is about celebrating the amazing things you’ve done this past year. She’s a sacred space holder, badass sorceress, transformative business coach and international retreat leader — I know you’ll enjoy honoring your accomplishments for the year! Ginny Muir Ginny was my first health coach and has become my best friend. Her challenge is about completing our experience together and preparing for our live celebration call by going into the depths and shadow of the feminine with intention and ease. Dr. Jeanine Staples is the Founder of the Supreme Love Project, which is a movement impacting nearly 1 million women in 18 different countries. She teaches women why they hurt, so they can heal, and let the highest version of themselves happen in life and love. Jeanine is a powerhouse offering us a sacred conversation centered in grace on the power of prayer in this Love Your Life episode. “Prayer is about going home.” “Be a Prayer Warrior and let it be your armor.” A few wisdom nuggets from this Love Your Life Episode with Dr. Jeanine Staples - We will always continue to expand, lead and love but true growth happens when we are in prayer and away from distractions where we “anchor into a leaning back and a letting go and a loosening and resting space to reconnect to our power so we can advance and expand.” - Getting what we want and need, happens in prayer. - “Stillness is what could advance you into a space of energy and Source” - Not getting enough…love, connection or respect is about lack and scarcity. “When in a space of lack or scarcity, come back to prayer.” - Pray how you want to pray-it is perfect for you. “God knows your cries.” - If you do not know the words to choose for your prayer, try these: “I am here, speak to me.” Get to know Dr. Jeanine and her work more in this masterclass: http://bit.ly/2QSem8c PLUS- > Make sure to join us for the Power Event in Washington, D.C. The Revelations of Asher: Toward Supreme Love in Self is an endarkened, feminist, new literacies event. It critically and creatively explores Black womens terror in love. With poetry, prose, and analytic memos, Jeanine Staples shows how a group of Black womens talk and writings about relationships revealed epistemological and ontological revelations, after 9/11. These revelations are presented in the context of a third wave new literacies framework. They are voiced and storied dynamically by the womens seven fragmented selves. Through the selves, we learn the five ways the women lived as lovers.

Terror and love don't typically go together in the same sentence but for more and more women the pairing has become a harsh reality. This is especially true in a post 9/11 world. In our day and age acts of emotional, psychological, and physical violence play out publicly (in the mainstream media), and privately (in intimate partnerships). In light of this, today's special guest Jeanine Staples asks: How does terror in love impact the way women show up in relationships and how women operate in the world? Can we feel safe, healed, and whole in an age where relational and social terrors against Black women's bodies and souls are common culture? In Jeanine Staples' debut book, The Revelations of Asher: Toward Supreme Love in Self, these questions are explored. This isn't a lovey-dovey take on relationships or "self-help". It is a raw look at how women heal from deep traumas using the tools of emotional literacy and emotional justice. Jeanine is on a mission to teach women how to turn toward supreme love in self, a concept that goes beyond the limits of self-love. Her extensive research reveals women's fragmented selves and the five ways women live as lovers: Main Chick, Side Chick, Bonnie, Bitch, and Victim. Jeanine Staples is Associate Professor of Literacy and Language, African American Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the Pennsylvania State University. Her teaching has been nationally acclaimed. She is a scholar, educator, and coach and has received numerous awards and honors for her talents and professional contributions to the field of literacy studies. She is a survivor of multiple terrors in love. To learn more visit www.jeaninestaples.com and www.thesupremeloveproject.com.

In Jeanine Staples' debut book, The Revelations of Asher: Toward Supreme Love in Self, she reveals women's fragmented selves and the five ways women live as lovers: Main Chick, Side Chick, Bonnie, Bitch, and Victim. Her two-part, online quiz can easily help women uncover which lover identity they take on in relationships. Her subsequent work ( www.thesupremeloveproject.com) shows women a more conscious way of loving and living in the world. As an alternative-response to the five toxic lover identities, Jeanine presents a new way of loving and living. She introduces the Supreme Lover Identity and illuminates its integral connection to social and emotional justice for and through Black women's wisdom.

Every now and again, if you are lucky enough, you get to connect with people whose words are SO powerful- they just knock the wind right out of you. Jeanine Staples, my friends, is one of those people. She stunned the world (and me) with her TED Talk, “How To Die Peacefully”, when she challenged the notion that humans are born, they live and then they die. No- Jeanine believes we are born and then we die a thousand tiny deaths. She claims, we can only learn to live, when we learn to die those deaths peacefully. Oh, I KNOW;  and this is just what I learned before our conversation. So, grab a notebook for this one, sit down, and get ready to let it all sink in to your soma (how Jeanine refers to our bodies). This one's a game changer. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: How our to heal our soul terrors and begin our own Personal Liberation Project Why seeking external affirmation can only lead to suffering What it means to “Go Deeper” The truth about our conditioned fear of experiencing pain How to teach our children to understand their body and their pain How your unconscious beliefs about money hold you back from being free What it means to own your womanhood What your “lover identity” is How to begin to stand up for social injustices and become a voice for for the voiceless THINGS I ASK: How did you heal your emotional break and move forward? What are the side effects of a life commitment to suffering and avoidance of pain? Why are we so afraid of experiencing pain? How do we meet our children right where they are to support them on their journey? How does this work help bring in more abundance and wealth? How do we start exploring and rebuilding our womanhood? How do we, as white privileged woman who have businesses, who want to say something, who want to stand up, begin? What do we do? SOUL SHIFTING QUOTES: “My generation of terror was so complete and so huge, I didn't have that ability to bide my time and create a status quo. “Your interior life is the precedent to any other exterior attachment or endeavor that you want to take part of.”

Dr. Jeanine Staples, Associate Professor at Penn State, researches the intersection of race, gender, education, and literature, revealing how young black girls internalize social messages about their lack of worth, how those messages threaten the girls’ health and well-being, and how schools both perpetuate the messages and offer a unique opportunity to stop them.
