Is midlife making you wonder what to do next or are you suffering from ageism at work? Listen to this captivating conversation with me and Dr Lucy Ryan, inspired by her book "Revolting Women, Why Midlife Women Are Walking Out." We delve deep into the impact of gendered ageism, the many challenges faced by midlife women, and why many are leaving the workforce.   In our conversation, we cover:  The challenges faced by midlife women, including the collision of events such as menopause, parental care, and financial pressures. We also discuss the gender bias in caregiving and the impact on women's careers, with many struggling to return to the workforce.  We discuss the need for a revolution in how midlife women are supported, emphasising the importance of transitioning from full-time to part-time work and redefining the narratives that often surround middle-aged women.  We also stress the need for organisations to integrate age into diversity agendas, track data, conduct listening exercises, and promote part-time and job share options.  About Dr Lucy Ryan:  Dr. Lucy Ryan is a leadership coach, trainer, and researcher who focuses on midlife women and their decision-making process as they move into positions of power. After observing many women making unexpected career choices just as they were on the brink of stepping up, Dr. Ryan realised there was little research on the subject and decided to pursue a PhD to investigate further. Despite leaving school with no qualifications, she self-educated herself from the age of 40 onwards, eventually becoming an expert in her field. Dr. Ryan is passionate about understanding the phenomenon and helping women navigate their careers with confidence and purpose.    Connect with Dr. Lucy Ryan:  Website  Book a call  Read the Book "Revolting Women, Why Midlife Women Are Walking Out."   LinkedIn  Instagram    WORK WITH ME AND MY TEAM   We partner with you to:   Develop your women leaders and prepare them to advance within the organisation.   Build women's confidence - particularly your early and mid-career level women   Empower men and leaders to become allies for gender equity.   Exciting news - We are thrilled to introduce a new leadership community that will provide a support system and incredible learning opportunities. In today's episode, we're catching up with Zara Godfrey, the powerhouse behind Pupkip. In the few short months since its launch, Pupkip's chocolate-dipped frozen bananas have turned into a must-have, so much so that they've got a dedicated following. A single weekend had 14,000 people lining up outside Whole Foods just for a taste. Not content with just conquering the UK, Pupkip is already making a splash in Dubai too.The Tastehead team had the pleasure of working on the product development with Zara (with many an hour spent on Zoom calls with the factory in Ecuador) to perfect the trio of flavours that have become the hallmark of Pupkip's range. And it's paid off; Zara's relentless attention to detail and top-notch standards have not only made the bananas taste amazing but also earned them a coveted Great Taste Award in their first year on the market.Join Brandt and Micah as they discuss the brand's journey with Zara, exploring the nitty-gritty of developing the products and tackling a multitude of challenges that came up along the way. They'll dig into what it's like to introduce a frozen snacking product to a discerning UK market, unveil the complexities of imports from Ecuador, and the hoops that had to be jumped through to make it all happen. Zara will also spill the beans on the bumps in the road they faced and the game-changing strategies that helped them succeed. If you enjoy this episode, please consider subscribing. If you have any suggestions for future episode topics, please email them to hello@tastehead.comFollow Brandt and Micah:https://www.linkedin.com/in/brandt-maybury/https://www.linkedin.com/in/micah-carr-hill-34a91811/Visit https://www.tastehead.com/ to learn moreFollow Zara:https://www.linkedin.com/in/zara-godfrey-n%C3%A9e-gugen-%F0%9F%8D%8C%F0%9F%8D%AB-26051723/https://pukpip.com/Find Pukpip at:UK:https://pukpip.com/find-ushttps://vegankind.com/o/pukpip-organisationDubai:https://www.kibsons.com/en/shopping/search?searchText=pukpiphttps://www.spinneys.com/en-ae/search/?q=pukpipLinks mentioned:Koji, Parsons Green - https://koji.restaurant/ Gola, Fulham - https://gola.london/ Freak Scene, Parsons Green - https://www.freakscenerestaurants.com/Diary of a CEO - https://open.spotify.com/show/7iQXmUT7XGuZSzAMjoNWlX?si=4b63b077f4a244dbHow I Built This - https://open.spotify.com/show/6E709HRH7XaiZrMfgtNCun

Economic markets are collapsing. People all over the world are suffering and people are afraid, and what happens when people are afraid? They become intolerant. They start pointing the finger at other people. They say, “You're the reason. You're the problem. You're to blame. Get out!” The enemy is not out there. The еnemy is within.I did my tour of duty this yеar, and it feels like I've been to hell and back. I saw many things I did not like. I saw apathy. I saw intolerance. I saw desperation and poverty. I saw discrimination and bigotry, and a kind of sinister black cloud of hypocrisy moving in on me, like a curtain of despair. Yeah, that's right. I saw a lack of desire like a plague, putting everyone into a kind of a trance. And I looked into the eyes of people and I saw helplessness. I saw hopelessness. I saw humans searching for a way out. Another new and exciting distractio. An excuse to do nothing. An external enemy to blame. But I also saw people desperate for a way in, looking for guidance, looking for inspiration, for hope. Looking for love. I keep telling everyone that I want to start a revolution, but no one is taking me seriously. If I had black skin and an afro, would you take me seriously? If I was an Arab waving a hand grenade, would you take me seriously? If I was wearing combat gear and I had an AK-47 strapped to my back, would you take me seriously? There's too much beauty in the world going to waste. Too much talent going unnoticed. Too much creativity crushed beneath the wheel of corporate branding and what's trending. But it's time to wake up before it's too late. History's repeating itself. Don't you see a pattern here? We live in a very scary time. Or should I say, we don't really live at all?Democracy doesn't seem to exist anymore. Freedom of expression sounds like a catchphrase. And if you want to be an artist in this day and age, you better have strong arms. You better be prepared to swim upstream in shark-infested waters. You better have thick skin. Because when those Fascist dictators posing as righteous men come for you with their big leather boots to shut you up, to put a gag in your mouth, to send you away to a penal colony, you better be prepared to fight for what you believe in. I used to think I had thick skin, but right now, it feels like I have no skin, like I have been skinned alive. You better be prepared to die for what you believe in.This will be the revolution of thinking for yourself, of having your own opinion and not giving a damn what people say. This will be a revolution of inquiring further, of not worrying about winning other people's approval, of not wishing you were someone else, but perfectly content to be who you are, someone unique and rare and fearless.I want to start a revolution of love. And this revolution will overcome all fear and all suffering and all separation. And it will include all people. Black, white, Christian, Chinese, Muslim, Jew, gay, straight, bisexual, fat, thin, handicapped, rich, poor, artistic and autistic. F**k labels. I hate labels. We're all in this ship together, sailing like a burning sphere across the sea. Burn, baby, burn.I feel that people are becoming more and more afraid of people who are different. People are becoming more and more intolerant! We want to fight for the right to be free! To be who we are! Yes! Yes!This is a very scary time, but we can make a difference! We can change this! We have the power! And we don't have to do it with violence. We just have to do it with love. Jesus preached this. Muhammad preached this. Buddha preached this. Moses preached this. It's in every holy book. Love thy neighbor as thyself, ok? So, you cannot use religion to treat other people badly. You cannot use God's name to treat other people badly. We all deserve love.I feel naked and alone. I'm sure you can relate. Sometimes I want to beat myself up. Sometimes I say to myself, “Why didn't I wait? Why did I listen to all those voices in my head? Why didn't I have patience? Why did I let all that doubt into my head? Into my belief system? Why?”I know what you're thinking. “If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.” But it's too late. I am in the kitchen, and the burner's on full blaze.I want to start a revolution. In the midst of a CoVid lockdown, I discovered a book that it felt like was speaking directly to me, and in doing so, touching my soul. The author and I shared a desire to see a significant shift in the country we both love, and in the wider world. That shift speaks of rediscovery. Of a way of being that all humans know, and many appear to have forgotten. What is called for, the author proposed is in fact nothing short of a revolution. A Kindness Revolution. I was moved to write to him, expressing my deepest gratitude for what I received in reading his work over the years, my appreciation of the shared meaning I discovered in his words, and my shared hope for a future filled with kindness. In that note I invited him to co-create a conversation here, which I am deeply honoured that he accepted.Welcome to the conversation with Hugh Mackay. His latest book, The Kindness Revolution, brings together many of his views shared in previous books based on over 6 decades of work, becoming one of Australia's best known and highly regarded social researchers since the publication of his first book, Australia Reimagined. Hugh's journey as a researcher began before the popularisation of television, and his career has witnessed 3 significant social revolutions, including the most recent rise of social media influence on social interaction. As Hugh says in The Kindness Revolution, he's come to recognise the potential transformative value of kindness, and that in fact what is needed is a more radical, revolutionary brand of kindness. The significance of Hugh's work is profound, a gift to Australia, and the world, and it was a great joy to explore with him the potential meaning of kindness in contributing to creating a better world.I hope our conversation brings you joy and provocation, as well as reflection on the potential for you to bring more kindness into your life, and what you might create in the world, and the change you might activate, as you do.Here's a review of the key messages from this episode, based on extracts from the dialogue;Change- We are the social change. We drive social trends.- These trends are pushing us in a direction which takes us away from our true nature.- No revolution ever started at the top, because the people at the top think everything is terrific.- Do we need memetic evolution or violent revolution?- Change needs to start with us living as though it was the kind of society we want to see.Belonging- We happen to be members of a social species. We need each other.- A sense of belonging is vital to a social species hardwired for collaboration.- Our shared humanity is far more important than a focus on our individual personal identity.- Be more accepting of difference, because we all share a common humanity, any difference is trivial.Prosperity- One thing that's driven us in this dangerous direction is economic prosperity.- We have had leadership celebrating individual prosperity.- We've had the wrong kind of leadership & too much prosperity.Kindness- Make kindness your way of being in the world.- Kindness is anything we do for another person which acknowledges them & their needs.- Ask yourself, does this act pass the kindness test?- As a kindness practice, we need a conscious reflection - was I kind enough today?- We've all been wounded, and are walking with tragedies large or small. The universal balm is kindness.- When I listen to someone, they receive it as a therapeutic gift.- Every act of kindness makes the world a better place.Find out more about Hugh and his work here:https://www.panmacmillan.com.au/author/hugh-mackay/As well as reading The Kindness Revolution, Hugh has particularly recommended these 2 of his books – What Makes Us Tick & The Good Life.Hugh also recommends that you check out the work of the Stay Kind Foundation - https://www.staykind.org/ - in particular look out for their ‘Kindfest' initiative in July.Follow Tim and join the Better World Leaders community via the links below:linkedin.com/in/timcollingslinkedin.com/company/better-world-leadersinstagram.com/timcollingslifedownsouthtimcollings-betterworldleaders.medium.comyoutube @timcollings – click here for channelEpisode Pages for this episode and all previous Better World Leaders conversations available here;4ileadership.com/category/better-world-leadersAs always, great thanks and appreciation to the team who contributed to bringing Better World Leaders to you;To Brendan Ward for mastering, final production, composition and performance of original music throughout each episode. To Cooper, Pat and the team at RadioHub studios for audio editing, technical support and creative guidance during the episodes that are recorded face-to-face. Jesus has a remarkable way of turning ordinary encounters into revolutionary events. When I have heard the story of Zacchaeus preached, most preachers have focussed on the redemptive aspect of the story. Zacchaeus is called out of the tree, and he is restored by Christ. But, something more revolutionary happens in today's text (Luke 19:1-10). Jesus doesn't just neutralize Zacchaeus' shame, dealing with his sin. He moves beyond it, and turns Zacchaeus into the minister, the redeemed one becomes part of Christ's plan for redemption! Jesus asks Zacchaeus to host a meal in his home (v.5), and because he takes that invitation seriously, we read, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.

In this episode, Terry looks at what is perhaps the most shocking and profound sentence that any teacher, philosopher, sage or rabbi has ever uttered. This teaching of Jesus is so counterintuitive and so challenging that we are tempted to water it down because it just seems too inconvenient and not practical. We are tempted to make this teaching a little more “doable” because a straightforward commitment to it just seems too reckless and dangerous.

We explore how politicians fear the media and thus are controlled by their narratives. I delve into whether or not Krystal, as a progressive, feels that her respect for the Democratic Party has been eroded. Plus, we reflect on actions and options: What should we do? Should we hijack a political party and use their position to make change, or should we start from scratch and start a revolution, scrapping the entire system completely? A revolution is defined as a transfer of power. God has called the Church to initiate a revolution—not one rooted in violence or politics—but a revolution to help people who have lived under the power of the Devil, to be set free by the power of God. Pastor Allen Jackson lists seven characteristics of God's unsurpassable power: He's the Creator, eternal, the Judge of all the Earth, omnipotent (all powerful); omniscient (all knowing), He loves people, and He's the only God. As we yield to God's power, He empowers us to impact the world for His purposes.   To support this ministry and help us continue to reach people all around the world, click here: allenjackson.com/podcastdonate

The 1950s & 60s saw a wave of radical movements. Che Guevara and the Cuban Revolution. The Black Panthers. Quebec and Canada had the FLQ — a showdown that dissolved into crisis. By October 1970, there were soldiers in the streets, communities on edge, kidnapping and terror in the headlines. But those frightening weeks were just the crescendo of a wave of terror and violence that was nearly a decade in the making. This series will reveal the stories of that time through immersive storytelling and the people who lived it: the bomb disposal expert on defusing live explosives, the survivors of terror, their families, and the radicals themselves.
