One of my favorite classes in the series so far! We've been reading from Swami Vivekananda's Bhakti Yoga at our Friday evening Bhakti satsanghs and together exploring some of the most refined concepts at the uppermost reaches of the devotional tradition known as Parā Bhakti, Supreme Love. In this talk, we reconcile the idea that Jñāna Yoga, the Way of Philosophy and Bhakti Yoga, the Way of Devotion or somehow incompatible or categorically distinct, as is the commonly held assumption. We also show how Jñāna, Philosophy can lead to ecstatic love and vice verse proving that these two paths are not different but are rather aspects of one Reality: God or Pure Consciousness. Sermon: The Laborers in the Vineyard Series: The Parables of JesusScripture: Matthew 20:1-16Teacher: Rev. Paul LawlerIn the Parables of Jesus series finale, Pastor Paul Lawler exposes four key revelations embedded in this parable:The Dark Side of Our Echo Chambers: He explores how our preconceived notions of fairness can blind us to the grace of God, leading us to rebel against His sovereign generosity. The Pitfalls of Unhealthy Comparison: Lawler unpacks the dangers of comparing ourselves to others, emphasizing the importance of trusting in God's grace rather than clinging to our own sense of justice.Clarity Surrounding the Gospel: He highlights how self-interest can obscure our gratitude and compassion, urging listeners to embrace a mindset of thankfulness and generosity. The Supreme Love of Christ: Lawler concludes by emphasizing the centrality of grace in God's kingdom, reminding listeners that all rewards are gifts of grace bestowed according to His divine standards. This sermon challenges listeners to examine their motives, attitudes, and understanding of God's grace. Whether you're wrestling with questions of fairness or seeking a deeper appreciation for God's abundant generosity, this sermon offers profound truths to ponder and apply to your journey.
Jazz is a national treasure, but is no longer a common pastime. First, rock and then hip-hop eclipsed its popularity long ago. Historian Gerald Early claims that three things uniquely define America: the Constitution, baseball, and jazz. Yet the sale of jazz records accounts for only a small fraction of the music market. The last time I checked, it was 4%. Many of my students at Denver Seminary and at other institutions where I teach know very little about it, and are a bit puzzled if not flummoxed by my references to it. Others claim they “do not understand jazz,” perhaps with a twinge of guilt that they should. Last summer, a very intelligent and godly campus minister and long-time friend attended a jazz concert with me. Afterward, he said, “The music has a center, but I cannot find it.” I humbly or not-so-humbly told him that I had found it and that I loved it. I love it for many reasons. One outstanding reason is that it can help inform and reform our apologetics engagements through its distinctive genius. All that is needed is a bit of transposition from the sensibilities of jazz to the skills of apologetics. . . . Jazz Skills for Apologetics Know the standard arguments in apologetics. Your supreme love should be for the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit and Gods camels.
The Narada Bhakti Sutras is a text attributed to the sage Narada, extolling the principle of Para-Bhakti - or Supreme Love. This love comprises both the base, the path, and the fruit, and so qualifies it as the spiritual path par excellence that takes us immediately to the goal by sheer divine grace. Is it the Book of Acts where someone says, "Look, here is patch of flat dirt. What should prevent us from building a pickleball court?" So maybe not. But any of us who have been in Christian leadership for any length of time, if we have our eyes open to surprise, will experience God doing lots of things with the world and inviting us to participate, often in unpredictable ways. And when we follow, the Lord only knows what he will do. How do you know if God is opening a door? If your community is being called to grow into a new ministry or identity? How can you tell when your own vocation might be taking a turn into new territory? Today -- and here's where we get to the jazz -- we will enjoy a case study in John Coltrane and evening prayer, pickleball courts, and an Anglo-Catholic parish on the Pacific coast pastored by someone who never wanted to be a priest in the first place. But he's since gotten used to the idea. The Rev. Doran Stambaugh is rector at St. Michael's by-the-Sea in Carlsbad, California, where he began as curate in 2005 and where he was ordained to the priesthood. He is also a talented musician. He has learned what pickleball is, and he has a robust and ever-growing zeal for jazz and the liturgical life of the church. We talked about the slow game of ministry in a community, embeddedness, building trust, and opening up God's sometimes subtle invitation to our neighbors, and to our common good. Now change out that clarinet reed. Stretch out those hamstrings. And grab your prayer book. We're headed into a beautiful story of creative ministry. We hope you enjoy the conversation. Love should be the chief disposition of our souls toward God. Our God seeks to occupy the highest place in our thinking and to be the apex of our affections and desires. Thus, we must love Him supremely. It is this supreme love for God that will shape and color everything else that we do or say. This supreme love will cleanse and purify.Thank you for listening to this episode of Declaring His Glory Among the Nations: Daily Scripture Meditations from Pastors Around the World. The side of the bus had a huge sign which read “Freestyle Love Supreme.” I had never heard of that so I checked it out and discovered that it is a theater production which is playing in town. Okay, that's interesting. But what I actually thought of on reading that title was the love of God. The word “supreme” means “superior to all others.” So when I see the words “love supreme” I think of God and His unparalleled love for us – for you. Are you feeling lonely and unloved today? I want to encourage you with the truth that God loves you deeply. He loves you more than anyone else ever could. His love is supreme. The Apostle John wrote: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” God made you, loves you dearly, and wants you to be His child. Won't you receive Him today? To find out how to do that, go to hopewithgod.com This is Andrew Palau. radio.hopewithgod.com This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Death refuses to accept Savitri's statement that God is Love and that He will remake Death's universe. He responds by saying that there is no other God but he. He claims that all are born from his depths, all live by Death and all return to his depths and are no more. Savitri knows this is all falsehood. She says that Love in her knows the truth and she can feel God within her. At the end of this broadcast is the recording from Mother's Agenda on April 13, 1962, where Mother speaks of her experience of becoming the Origin and the Supreme Love manifesting the universe through big pulsations. Mother had been ill for several months before this, and her voice shows how exhausted and weak she is. This is the original recording. It has the voices of other people and very long pauses filled with background noise. Mother tells the whole of her experience in English instead of in French. Then she begins to speak in French. In later Agenda talks, Mother says that Sri Aurobindo is in her experience. It is possible that Sri Aurobindo is helping Mother to speak because she is so weak and exhausted, and this is why she speaks in English. The background noise is extremely loud because the volume of the recorder is turned up as Mother's voice is so weak.

God's sovereign love is wonderfully revealed in the life of the Prophet Hosea. He brings a message from heaven that must be heard and in so doing also reveals the loving and gracious character of God.
Paul now begins to explain the application of what he has previously discussed, the unifying of Jews and Gentiles into one new body called the church, which he refers to as a mystery now revealed. He is overwhelmed by this new entity called the family of God, made up of people from every background and every race. Before discussing how rich they are, Paul wants to make sure the Ephesians know who they are. Until you know who you are you will not appreciate, nor be able to avail yourself of how rich you are. The church is to demonstrate what God's kingdom looks like to the spiritual world above and the physical world below. It is a historical demonstration to the world of how heavenly values operate and models the unsurpassable love of Christ.

One of the things you've been hearing quite often is how men have been accused of sexual misconduct. taking things beyond too far. And subsequently, men are not stepping up to challenge men to do better. So BJ decided to take it back to the fundamentals of the Cat and Mouse game to find out if men have the basic skillset to approach a woman correctly. Titled "The Completion of A Compliment", this episode features D Murph and D Moore (Penrose Eames) of DownWithTheDMs and this Hollywood ass Cleveland nigga named MTV from Poolside Chats Podcast!!! These kings bought game to the table. We discussed: How have you been taught to give compliments? A. Grabbing her by the wrist and forcefully giving her the compliment? B. Simply Making Her Smile/Laugh to eventually make her comfortable? C. Yelling from afar, "Damn Girl You Fine as Hell!!" D. All of The Above Have you acknowledged that you are a product of rape cultivation within our culture? And that the slightest gestures could be mistaken as triggers? Has the absence of fatherhood played a part of why you don't know how to treat a woman? Is getting your game from a woman confusing you? Simply because your mother can only tell you what not to do to women, because even SHE hasn't been treated right? Does your compliments get you blocked? Friend zoned? Possibly Married? Is chivalry dead? And the finale, we have a pop quiz on how to complement women at the end of the show. The episode was so full of grown man talk and wisdom. This is a treat!!! Take a listen!!! Sermon Overview: The love of God is such that He can’t do anything other than love. Love is who He is and therefore, He can love even when the object of love is unlovely. It is this love that transforms us and liberates us to love. ...
In Jeanine Staples' debut book, The Revelations of Asher: Toward Supreme Love in Self, she reveals women's fragmented selves and the five ways women live as lovers: Main Chick, Side Chick, Bonnie, Bitch, and Victim. Her two-part, online quiz can easily help women uncover which lover identity they take on in relationships. Her subsequent work ( www.thesupremeloveproject.com) shows women a more conscious way of loving and living in the world. This isn't a lovey-dovey take on relationships or "self-help". It is a raw look at how women heal from deep traumas using the tools of emotional literacy and emotional justice. Jeanine is on a mission to teach women how to turn toward supreme love in self, a concept that goes beyond the limits of self-love. As an alternative-response to the five toxic lover identities, Jeanine presents a new way of loving and living. She introduces the Supreme Lover Identity and illuminates its integral connection to social and emotional justice for and through Black women's wisdom.
Terror and love don't typically go together in the same sentence but for more and more women the pairing has become a harsh reality. This is especially true in a post 9/11 world. In our day and age acts of emotional, psychological, and physical violence play out publicly (in the mainstream media), and privately (in intimate partnerships). In light of this, today's special guest Jeanine Staples asks: How does terror in love impact the way women show up in relationships and how women operate in the world? Can we feel safe, healed, and whole in an age where relational and social terrors against Black women's bodies and souls are common culture? In Jeanine Staples' debut book, The Revelations of Asher: Toward Supreme Love in Self, these questions are explored. Her extensive research reveals women's fragmented selves and the five ways women live as lovers: Main Chick, Side Chick, Bonnie, Bitch, and Victim. Jeanine Staples is Associate Professor of Literacy and Language, African American Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the Pennsylvania State University. Her teaching has been nationally acclaimed. John 13:1-17, Maundy Thursday
Discipleship Pillar #1: Supreme Love of God
Real Christianity - A Supreme Love (Luke 14:25-35)
“In these days before Christmas is a time to be incubating the Christ-self within us Who must be born,” explains Shunyamurti, the spiritual master of the Sat Yoga Institute in Costa Rica. “And the ceremony of the birthing of one’s Godself and the death of the ego was always recognized as the most sacred of all days, and the entire year leads up to this moment. . . . But to do that, to give birth to the Christ-self, we must surrender the ego-self. We must empty out the mind of all residue of ego in order to be a pure vehicle for the Supreme Intelligence, the Supreme Love. To fill and to emanate and to be shared. Those are the gifts under the Christmas tree. It is the gift of the divine virtues that we can role model and transmit and appreciate in the other.” “So I hope you will give yourself the gift of being the gift that brings that empowerment to all of us and as a model to the entire world because this is the moment when the world is in its darkest days; this earth has never seen darker days than the ones we are in now. And these are the days in which we must give birth to the light. And we can’t say somebody else will do it. We have to take responsibility for doing it. You know the Christmas tree is filled with lights. It is a festival of lights; but we must be those lights.” “And so I wish you all every blessing on achieving that—and doing it now because it takes so much time to purify the soul that if we wait, if we waste even one day and say, ‘I’ll start tomorrow,’ or ‘I’ll start after my vacation,’ or I’ll start whenever, the time won’t be there. There’s no more margin. It has to be done now and ceaselessly; an ongoing purification of the self has to be the regimen that organizes our lives. . . . we pay the price of the ego, and what we gain is the priceless union with the Source of all being.” Recorded on the evening of Tuesday, December 22, 2009.
Spiritual and wisdom teaching of Shunyamurti recorded on Thursday evening (June 18, 2009) at the Sat Yoga Institute in Costa Rica. Excerpt: “Namaste. This is a room of divine beings. All of us are emanations of the divine light and the oneness of the Supreme Love. But the ego plays hide and seek with the light and that love, and eventually it is lost more often than it is found. And so if we are going to get out of this game of lost and found we have to do something that the sufis call dhikr or shikr, which is remembrance of God.”
