Sponsored by the Murray State University Alumni Association and hosted by Murray State Director of Alumni Relations Carrie McGinnis and 2019 Murray State graduate Jordan Lowe, The Racer Alumni Podcast: Stories from the Finest Place We Know, offers the chance to connect with your alma mater and others within our global alumni family. Murray State University was founded in 1922, making 2022 our Centennial year. What is a celebration of our 100-year history without a historian? We brought in our very own to talk about the facts, lore, innovations, foresight, politics, social change and local characters that willed Murray State Normal School and Teacher's College into being in far western Kentucky ten decades ago and paved the way to where we are today as a nationally-ranked public regional University with nearly 10,000 students and more than 80,000 living alumni. Dr. Jeff McLaughlin is Murray State's Archives/Museum Director, housed in the grand campus treasure that is Pogue Library, and co-author of the University's upcoming pictorial book, The Finest Place We Know. Despite his Canadian heritage, Dr. McLaughlin's academic interests include Twentieth Century World History, U.S. Modern History, American Foreign Relations, the Cold War, the Vietnam War and Sports History. In 2019 the University Press of Kentucky published his book, JFK and de Gaulle: How America and France Failed in Vietnam, 1961-1963.   During episode two, released July 15, Jeff talks about some of the epic shifts and challenges that Murray State and its administration weathered throughout our nation's history, such as the Great Depression, WWII, Vietnam, Civil Rights and generations of students coming of age on our campus. Some questions we will answer along the way include: What were some of the surprises unearthed while researching our centennial history book? Why was the early relationship between the University's founder and first president somewhat “frosty” at the outset? Who was “Dew Drop” Brumley Rowlett? (The story of one of the first female scholarship athletes at Murray State may shock you.) Why did Murray State become home to a naval flight school and how did it keep the University “a float?” How did the bravery and peaceful activism of one Black student change the culture of an iconic local establishment? What is a “super carpetbagger?” Is Colonel Sanders really not from Kentucky? The pictorial coffee table book, which Dr. McLaughlin co-authored alongside Murray State President Dr. Bob Jackson and University Libraries Specialist Sarah Marie Owens, The Finest Place We Know: A Centennial History of Murray State University, 1922-2022, is currently available for presale at murraystate.edu/centennial. Sponsored by the Murray State University Alumni Association and hosted by Murray State Director of Alumni Relations Carrie McGinnis and 2018 Murray State graduate Jordan Lowe, The Racer Alumni Podcast: Stories from the Finest Place We Know, offers the chance to connect with your alma mater and others within our global alumni family. We are 80,000-strong. Murray State University was founded in 1922, making 2022 our Centennial year. As we celebrate the institution's 100th birthday, it is only appropriate that we are being led into our next century by an alumnus and longtime member of the Racer community, Dr. Bob L Jackson. Dr. Jackson was appointed president of his alma mater in March of 2019, after serving as interim president beginning in August 2018. He graduated from Murray State in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in finance. He has since gone on to complete graduate courses at Murray State and doctoral courses at the University of Leicester (UK). He holds a Master of Arts degree in higher education administration for Antioch University and a doctorate in educational leadership from Western Kentucky University.  His wife and first lady, Mrs. Karen Miller Jackson, graduated from Murray State in 1984 with a degree in nursing. During the episode one of the Racer Alumni Podcast, released July 1, 2022, Dr. Jackson talks about upbringing with five siblings in Magnolia, Kentucky, why he chose Murray State for his college experience and his time as a young Racer beginning in the fall of 1981. He began his foray into leadership as a student, serving as a Student Ambassador, on student government and as president of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha. As an alumnus of the University he leads, Dr. Jackson said the expectations he places upon himself, and to some extent the expectations that others place on him, are colored through a blue and gold lens. His professional experiences working in state government, in corporate finance and as a member of the faculty and staff at Murray State have positioned him with a unique set of skills and perspective that have tremendous impact on his daily walk and decision-making as president. The relationships and friendships that Dr. Jackson has built and fostered over many years also create a unique level of access to the president's office for alumni who have essentially grown up professionally alongside him. You will also have the opportunity to hear first-hand what it has been like for Dr. Jackson to navigate our collective alma mater through one of the scariest and most difficult periods in our history and one of the most exciting milestones of our history, a global pandemic and our centennial celebration, in just the span of 2-3 years. A well-documented history buff and not one to dwell on the negative, Dr. Jackson has made it a priority to spend our 100th year in appreciation of those who first imagined what is now Murray State University, those who fought to turn that dream into a reality for this small spec of land in far western Kentucky and those who have led the institution through incredible challenges, exciting breakthroughs and tremendous global change to become the world-class regional public University we are today. That 100-year history has been laid out into a pictorial coffee table book which Dr. Jackson co-authored along with members of our University Libraries faculty, Dr. Jeff McLaughlin and Sarah Marie Owens. The Finest Place We Know: A Centennial History of Murray State University, 1922-2022 is currently available for presale at murraystate.edu/centennial. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and pick-up this fall. So, what is next for Murray State as we head into our next 100 years? Dr. Jackson lays out the “great transformation” that is currently underway on our campus and the things he sees as priorities moving forward into the next 10-20 years. Heather shares of some of the criticism she has received at times for needing a lifeline for mental health, as well as how she has remained on purpose in spite of some of the naysayers. Often times in churches and faith communities there's a predisposition to thinking that mental health and mental wellness are givens for people of faith and that it is a sign of weakness or even "sin" should someone need to reach out for help. Heather helps destroy that notion on this episode. Life After PTSD is produced by Jeff McLaughlin. Posner was one of the youngest attorneys (23) ever hired by Cravath, Swaine & Moore. A Political Science major, he was a Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, where he was also a national debating champion. At Hastings Law School, Posner was an Honors Graduate and served as the Associate Executive Editor for the Law Review. He was a litigation associate at the Wall Street law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore before leaving in 1981 to co-found Posner & Ferrara, a New York public interest law firm. Several years of a pro bono legal representation on behalf of surviving twins of Nazi experiments at the Auschwitz death camp led him to coauthor his first book in 1986, MENGELE: The Complete Story, a bestselling and critically acclaimed biography of the infamous Nazi “Angel of Death,” Dr. Josef Mengele. Read a profile on Gerald on how the Mengele book unintentionally led to him to leave his legal practice and instead focus on other book projects. Publishers Weekly also has a profile on Gerald that explains how he changed from being a Wall Street lawyer to a bestselling nonfiction author. In the past, he was a regular panelist on HistoryCENTER, the History Channel’s Sunday current events program. He has been a freelance writer for many news magazines, and a regular contributor to NBC, the History Channel, CNN, FOX News, CBS, and MSNBC. He is represented by BrightSight Group for lectures about investigative journalism and his books. His wife, author, Trisha Posner, works with him on all his projects. In this episode Kari joins Jeff & Shannon McLaughlin to welcome special guest Ryan December.  Ryan is a Wall Street Journal reporter based in New York and writes about financial markets, investing in energy, infrastructure and real estate and other Wall Street topics.  His upcoming book "Underwater" will be released on July 14, 2020 on Amazon (https://amzn.to/39RWK2B) and at all major booksellers.  In it he shows how decisions in New York and Washington played out on his street in a booming corner of the Sunbelt that was convulsed by the crash.  Instead of watching the U.S. housing market collapse from trading floors in Manhattan as in previous accounts, readers will witness the mortgage meltdown from his perch as a newspaper reporter, first in the boom-to-bust South and later in New York, among the financiers who are gobbling up suburban homes and profiting in the aftermath.  Jeff & Shannon McLaughlin were among those who saved up to purchase their first home in 2005 and continued to pay down their mortgage as they built their financial dreams, only to see all their equity and more evaporate by the consequences of Wall Street speculation and subprime lending.   To learn more about what actually happened in the 2008 housing bubble, see:  https://www.wsj.com/articles/my-10-year-odyssey-through-americas-housing-crisis-1516981725 https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-hedge-fund-makes-billions-off-americans-underwater-mortgages-11545742800 https://www.wsj.com/articles/meet-your-new-landlord-wall-street-1500647417 https://www.wsj.com/articles/so-you-make-100-000-it-still-might-not-be-enough-to-buy-a-home-11571149819 Additionally, check out "The Big Short" (movie) on Amazon Prime (https://amzn.to/2Qhky8c) and Netflix (https://www.netflix.com/watch/80075560).  Life After PTSD is produced by Jeff McLaughlin.  For production inquires: jeff@motormouthcreations.com Support the show at PATREON.COM/LIFEAFTERPTSD/ Please leave us a positive review on iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/life-after-ptsd/id1448130626 Any rebroadcast or retransmission of an episode, without the express written consent of Life After PTSD, is prohibited. ©2020 Life After PTSD NLP, neuro linguistic programming, therapy, counseling, coaching, trauma, TF-NLP, trauma focused, veteran, military, armed forces, United States, war, wartime, marriage, family, children, adolescence, Consano Group, training, ART, EDMR, RTM, firefighter, first responder, relationships, intimacy, sex, romance, housing crisis, housing bubble, Wall Street, Wall Street Journal  Sponsorships: on for this episode --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lifeafterptsd/message

This week on Irreverent Radio Live we have our in house pastor back, Jeff Mclaughlin from First Baptist Orlando, and since Jeff is boycotting social media we have to keep him up to date. In doing so we bring up a video that was posted by Perry Noble, of NewSpring Church talking about his recent relief of duty from his position at the church. We also talk about Pokemon Go and Jeff tells us a story involving a Poke-Stop. Apparently the game is bringing in a bunch of people to these places but the communities think it’s disrespectful and want them to stop and even be removed from the app. Which brings up top places you should not play Pokemon Go at and Zouain claims he used to hang out at one of these places as a kid. Then we close the show out with another leader of the church hitting the headlines. A Televangelist buys Tyler Perry’s 17.5 million dollar mega mansion in Atlanta, Georgia.

Then we bring the mood down when we talk about people who broadcast their suicide and the reasons they do it, and of course Zouain makes an inappropriate comment
