Kinsella on Liberty Podcast: Episode 465. GROK SHOWNOTES: [0:00–9:16] In this engaging episode of the Kinsella on Liberty podcast, Stephan Kinsella and Sheldon Richman tackle the contentious issue of pharmaceutical price controls under Trump's executive order, questioning their equivalence to traditional price controls that distort markets. Kinsella, drawing on his extensive critique of intellectual property (Patents and Pharmaceuticals, 2023; Patents, Pharma, Government: The Unholy Alliance, 2024), argues that patents create artificial monopolies, so price controls countering these are not standard interventions but responses to government-granted privileges. Richman highlights FDA-imposed costs, which patents partially offset, though Kinsella counters that these costs are overstated, citing lower drug prices abroad (Drug Reimportation, 2009). They endorse reimportation as a market-based solution, referencing Connor O'Keefe's analysis (Mises: How Trump Can Lower Drug Prices Without Price Controls, 2025), but criticize Trump's coercive tactics as resembling a protection racket (Trump's Worst Idea: Pharmaceuticals, 2025) (0:02–6:00). The discussion also critiques antitrust laws and secondary regulations, with Richman warning against Kevin Carson's approach of layering controls atop privileges (Kevin Carson on Confiscating Property from the Rich, 2016) (6:00–9:16). [9:16–1:13:35] The conversation shifts to a robust defense of the corporate form, addressing left-libertarian criticisms of limited liability and shareholder responsibility. Kinsella, aligning with Robert Hessen's contractual view and his own writings (Corporate Personhood, Limited Liability, and Double Taxation, 2011; Left-Libertarians, Corporations, Expropriating Stakeholders, 2008), argues that limited liability is not a privilege but a logical outcome of action-based responsibility, where shareholders are not liable unless causally responsible for torts (Van Dun on Freedom versus Property and Hostile Encirclement, 2009). Richman decries the pejorative use of “corporate” by figures like Roderick Long, rejecting claims that corporations inherently rely on state favoritism (Comment on Left-Libertarianism on Roderick Long's Sub-Ex Dep Post, 2009) (9:16–36:01). They explore thick libertarianism, agreeing that individualism connects to broader values but remains distinct, and critique Walter Block's evictionism on abortion, with Kinsella arguing fetuses are not trespassers due to maternal actions (Together Strong Debate with Walter Block, 2022) (36:01–1:13:35). A lighthearted discussion on pipe tobacco reflects their commitment to personal liberty, underscoring their broader libertarian principles (Wombatrons: Why I Am a Left-Libertarian, 2009). https://youtu.be/5YaTsoDH9Eg Grok detailed shownotes: Detailed Segment Summary for Show Notes Segment 1: Price Controls, Patents, and Reimportation (0:02–9:16) Description and Summary: Kinsella andMemphis-based Robert Hessen and Sheldon Richman discuss Trump's pharmaceutical price control executive order, questioning its implications. Kinsella, per his writings (Patents and Pharmaceuticals, 2023; Patents, Pharma, Government: The Unholy Alliance, 2024), argues that patents create monopoly prices, so price controls countering these aren't standard market distortions, as patents themselves are government-granted (IP vs. Antitrust, 2005). Richman notes FDA costs inflate drug prices, but Kinsella cites lower prices abroad to argue these costs are overstated (Drug Reimportation, 2009) (0:02–2:28). They advocate reimportation, citing Connor O'Keefe's market-based approach (Mises: How Trump Can Lower Drug Prices Without Price Controls, 2025), and criticize Trump's coercive tactics as a protection racket (Trump's Worst Idea: Pharmaceuticals, 2025) (2:28–6:00). The segment critiques antitrust laws and secondary regulations, with Richman comparing them to Kevin Carson's flawed approach (Kevin Carson on Confisca...

In this first episode of 2Days Denarius for the New Year, we will look at how to plan for spiritual growth, giver greater practice of the spiritual disciplines, develop the theme of Revival for 2022, and give a prayer for this new year. We will also look at Solomon's prayer of dedication in 2 Chronicles 6 as it develops a foundation and pattern for revival in Scripture and our world today. Our nation needs true revival. That is, one that is founded upon humility, confession of sin, prayer, and repentance. These are the biblical ingredients for true revival. Not the entertainment-based and other concoctions and man-produced false ones we often see today. If we want real spiritual growth, we must get ready to work harder and do our job as believers! Let's forge ahead and make a real spiritual difference in our world for 2022. This lesson also encourages its listeners to develop a Bible reading plan and an overall plan for spiritual growth in 2022. In this lesson there is a contribution by Dr. Kevin Carson, who wrote an excellent article on his website for which Christians can frame their spiritual growth plan around in 2022. His article is titled, "Four Spiritual Commitments that Will Impact Your New Year #OnThisSunday." It may be found on his kevincarson.com website. As always, 2Days Denarius is grateful to Pastor Steve Hereford of the Eastport Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL, for granting 2DaysD permission to use his song "Most of Our Time" as the theme song for this podcast. I sit down with Dr. Kevin Carson to discuss what it looks like to actually understand the world of the Teenager. 1.  Consider the parents: age, position, lifestyle, friendsPossible idols – comfort, respect, appreciation, success, control, independence2.   Consider the teen: age, position, lifestyle, friendsPossible idols –1)   Material possessions2)   Relationships / acceptance / approval3)   Appearance4)   Pleasure5)   Comfort / laziness6)   Control7)   Sexual satisfaction8)   Selfish (vs. serving)9)   Self (vs. trusting God) 3.   Three obstacles to life as a teen:1)   “God isn't playing my game.”2)   “My family is so not perfect.”3)   “The world around me is hard and dangerous.” Foundational Issues for Wise Parents to Teach Their Teens 1.   God's opinion matters most – the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:7). 2.   Children need to listen to their parents and remember the wise things they say (Proverbs 1:8; 6:20). For each parent, the challenge is to make wisdom attractive. 3.   The teen must be careful in choosing friends – abstain from the wicked (Proverbs 1:10-15; Psalm 1). 4.   Be sure to help your teen understand the difference between a wise and foolish son. The way both the parents and the teen handle conflict identifies often who is wise and who is foolish. Be aware of both characteristics (Prov 26:4-5; 12:15; 18:2; 19:1; 20:3; 26:12; 28:26; 29:11; James 3:13-18).More about Kevin: Kevin N. Welcome to Mutual Exchange Radio, a project of the Center for a Stateless Society. Today’s guest is Kevin Carson, a senior fellow of the Center for a Stateless Society who holds the Center's Karl Hess Chair in Social Theory. He has written books such as Studies in Mutualist Political Economy, Organization Theory: A Libertarian Perspective, and The Homebrew Industrial Revolution: A Low-Overhead Manifesto, all of which are freely available on C4SS’ website. Carson has also written for such print publications as The Freeman: Ideas on Liberty and a variety of internet-based journals and blogs, including Just Things, The Art of the Possible, the P2P Foundation, and his own Mutualist Blog. Today, we discussed a study he published last year for the Center on New Libertarian Municipalism. Libertarian Municipalism is an idea that has its roots in one of the most famous social anarchist thinkers of the twentieth century, Murray Bookchin. However, Kevin is more interested in modern movements focusing on a more decentralized model of a market economy based on common ownership of certain resources, drawing from thinkers such as Elinor Ostrom. Its focus is on an openly democratically run city on a local level, transforming local governments into partners in the transition to a post-capitalist economy. In this discussion, we cover the history of the idea of libertarian municipalism, what the movement on the ground has looked like in recent years, the policy implications of it for local cities, economic indicators that society is progressing in that direction, and common objections to the idea. It was a fun conversation that allows leftist thinking to move on from focus on, from the center, electoral political outcomes on the national level and, from more radical circles, violent insurrections that are impractical in the near future.

One of the biggest drawbacks of thinking in “vulgar libertarian” fashion is that you forget that there were ever alternatives available to people, that the way that we live now or the way we’re used to living is the only way that was ever reasonable or good. The rise of the modern state marks a time in history when authorities began to and continue to control more about people’s lives. The modern state also intrudes on people’s lives in a fashion that is so much greater than before. With that being said, we are still hesitant to look at other society organizational possibilities even though the modern state continues to control us more than most would prefer. Kevin Carson joins us to discuss the depths of capitalism and if the possibility for a post-capitalism world exists. What is the definition of capitalism? What is the history of the word “capitalism”? Who were the Boston Anarchists? What is “vulgar libertarianism”? Are there alternative social structures that we do not acknowledge because we are stubborn and stuck in our ways? Is post-capitalism occurring?Further Reading:Center for a Stateless Society websiteMutualist Blog: Free Market Anti-Capitalism, by Kevin CarsonRelated Content:Why Not Capitalism?, Free Thoughts PodcastWhy Do Intellectuals Oppose Capitalism?, Free Thoughts PodcastThe Corporation Problem with Gary Chartier, Liberty Chronicles Podcast See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
