Taylor helps children grow their confidence to read out loud with her Therapy Dog experience Books with Benji.In this 47th episode of Therapy Dog Talk, I spoke with Taylor about her experiences volunteering with her 105lb Great Pyrenees mix Benji in their local read to a dog program, Paws to Read, through Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD). They've built on top of this program to offer their own private reading sessions for kids who need more time, which Taylor likes to call Books with Benji. Taylor and Benji are located in Charlotte, North Carolina, and also volunteer in assisted living homes and are hoping to get started with a craft program for children with disabilities.With a background in vet medicine and a love of psychology, Taylor knew that she was interested in Therapy Dog work as soon as she found out about it from her colleague Kim who's dog Kovu, a German Shepherd, volunteers in airports and courthouses in addition to being an actor. Once Benji became comfortable with his new life with Taylor, it became clear to Taylor as well as to her colleagues, that he had more love to give than just one person, or even one office, could receive. So after making sure he gave therapy to everyone at their animal hospital, Taylor decided to train him to become a Therapy Dog so that they could begin volunteering together.While Benji asks for love from everyone he sees, it's clear to Taylor that he truly enjoys working with the children they see at the library as their energy and willingness to give pets light him up on their visits. We watched The Lion King 2 for our second ROARgust episode. This time the story is a vague adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Kiara, Simba's daughter and Kovu, Scar's heir, fall in love even though they are from feuding prides. This is a slightly late episode but enjoy the journey with us anyways!

Otuz yıl önce yazdığım “Fetvalarla Çağdaş Hayat” kitabıma bakınca meselenin izahına aslında şu anda yapamayacağım kadar emek verdiğimi ve orada her yönünü yazdığımı gördüm. Ama mademki yine soruluyor öyleyse konuyu güncelleyerek ikinci kez yazayım dedim. Mesele (haline getirilen konu) şu: Efendim, gusülde ağzın içinin yıkanması farzdır. Dişlerde kaplama ya da dolgu olursa kaplanan ya da doldurulan mekâna su ulaşmamış olur. Böyle olunca bunu yaptıran birisinin guslü yok hükmündedir. Guslü olmayınca abdesti de, o olmayınca namazı da olmaz. Bu kişi bir de eğer imamsa ona uyanların namazı da olmaz. O halde kişi kaplama ve dolgu yapmayacak, yaptıysa dişini çıkaracak ya da gusülde ve abdestte ağız içinin yıkanması şart değildir diyen başka bir mezhebi taklid edecek ve artık abdestini ve namazını hep o mezhebe göre alıp kılacak... Biz sırf bu ucube fetva için dolgulu dişlerini çıkartmak isteyenlere şahit olduk. Eğer dinî bir meseleyi ve de dinden soğutacak şekilde yanlış anlatmaya, dört başı mamur bir örnek bulun dense bundan daha alası bulunamaz. Neden? İzah edelim: Din dediğimiz şey, nasların bize açıkça söyledikleri ya da işaret ettikleridir. Yahut naslara uygun olduğunda ittifak edilen anlamalardır. Bu anlamalarda/ictihadlarda ittifak olmazsa her hangi bir ictihadla amel edilebilir. Diğerlerine göre her ikisine su vermek her ikisinde de sünnettir. Yani hiç yapılmamış olsa bile gusül ve abdest olur, tabii ki sünneti de hafife almamak gerekir. Ama dişlerin aralarına kadar yıkamanın gereğini kimse söylememiştir. Farz edelim ki dişinizde çürük ve kovuk var, dolgu yaptırırsanız içine su gitmediği için abdestiniz olmaz diyorlar. Peki, o kovuktaki birikintiyi her abdestte ya da gusülde kürdanla çıkarabilecek misiniz? Çünkü o da suyun ulaşmasına manidir. Bu mümkün değilse, yine abdestiniz olmamış olmayacak mı? Yoksa dişinde ufak bir çürük gören dişini hemen çektirecek mi?

Today I want to explore what might have happened if Simba would have protected Kovu from his mother and Scar's most dedicated follower: Zira.

[laughs] It was the best quick hairdo I could come up with. If I was going to have to show my face. Does it look, does it look intentional? Hey there, Dustbin Terrier, great name. Hi, Bo…Uh, Pixel. Okay. So, this question comes from Melissa and, did I lose it? Okay. Melissa, who is from, St. Louis, Missouri and has a corgi, right? Pachi is almost six months old. He and my two year old cat Covu love to play around together, but sometimes they get too rough. Anytime this happens, I use the touch cue with my fingers and give him a tasty treat, but then he turns around and runs right back to Kovu. Sometimes it’s friendly, but it always escalates into a serious fight. And then she has like a side note part, which I want to talk about in a second, but let’s just talk about this part. So really great question. Actually I’m gonna read the second part now because I think it relates, so then she writes: I’ve also given a name to the touch cue, which is Revelio, I’m using Harry Potter spells as trick names, and he’s brilliant. Isn’t that cute? He comes when I call almost every time, but I guess play time with Covu, is more fun. Sometimes I grabbed his favorite toy to distract him from Covu, but again, that only lasts for so long. Do you have any ideas? Thank you so much for your podcast. I’m amazed with how much I’ve been able to train Pachi within a short amount of time. And especially with three syllable trick names such as Expelliarmus for “drop it.” [laughs] I was told that it was impossible to do by a local trainer. Again, thank you. So it’s funny, you know, I’ve heard people do say dogs only understand like one or two syllables, but I think that’s probably bullshit. So good for you, Melissa, for going the Harry Potter spell name route. I think that’s very clever. But to go back to the issue of what’s going on here with the cat and the dog. I mean, Pachi is only six months old, so I would hope that you’re able to get him some really good play time. Simba has an eager and adventurous daughter named Kiara who tries to become friends with an Outlander lion named Kovu, who has been seasoned to take the throne back from Simba. This movie very much lives up to its predecessor with only a few weird moments. Featuring a spectacular soundtrack and all our favorite characters, this was a lot of fun to rewatch. What Zira didn’t plan on was actual love blossoming between Kiara and Kovu.
