I used to roll my eyes at the gurus who preach “mindset is everything”. Like… what do you mean mindset is everything? You take action and you reap the rewards. Simple as that. Where does the mindset part come in? But after experiencing my ultimate burnout at 25 and retiring from corporate since, I've finally realized why “mindset is everything”. #retireearly #firemovement #financialfreedom #personalfinance
As a speaker, it's often hard to find the balance between telling your story, building your personal brand, and serving your audience. No matter what your story is, you have to connect it to solving your audience's problems. Otherwise, you're just talking about yourself–and that's a surefire strategy for failure if your goal is making an impact. On Episode 458 of The Speaker Lab podcast, Grant Baldwin invited Bruce Van Horn, a speaker with a pretty extraordinary story, to help you walk that very fine line. Before Bruce was a speaker, he was a creative writing major who pivoted to a successful career in the software business. If you're struggling to connect the dots between what you studied, where you work, and what you want to speak about, his path will inspire you to think outside the box and buck expectations. Bucking expectations is a big part of Bruce's mission. On top of being a speaker, he is also a life coach, author, and podcast host. Through his various efforts to promote positive change using words, he helps other people experience radical mindset shifts and get unstuck from negative patterns in their life. On the show, he shares some of those strategies and a sneak peek into what he calls his “victory routines.” His podcast, Life Is A Marathon, invokes a powerful experience of self-reflection and mindset shift he had while training for a marathon during a series of tragic life events. You'll also learn all about: The drawbacks of basing your career choices entirely on money. How Zig Ziglar inspired Bruce to kick his victimhood mindset. What we can learn about from marathon training. How to leverage a podcast to get you more speaking gigs. The difference between passion and enthusiasm. How to pick the parts of your story that will connect with your audience. …and so much more!Episode Resources:Connect with BruceBook a Call with The Speaker LabSubscribe on Apple PodcastsGet Booked & Paid To SpeakGet a FREE Copy of The Successful SpeakerSpeaker Fee CalculatorSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

You may have heard a preacher urging the congregation to keep an eternal perspective. Well, life is not a sprint, it's a marathon. Sprinters run fast and burn out quickly. A marathon runner focuses on keeping a steady pace for a long period of time. You may have important things to work toward in this moment, in the short term, but God says that what really matters in the long run is your relationship with Him. If you start with that, the rest of your life will fall into place. As you develop that relationship with your Lord and Savior, your actions will come into line with his will for you. You will also experience His power in your life and you will have the endurance needed for the marathon. Hang in there for the long run. With God's help, you will keep that eternal perspective and your life will be a blessing to those around you. This is Andrew Palau. "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us." Hebrews 12:1 radio.hopewithgod.com
In Episode 4 of Season 3, a "special episode" of UnstuckAF, Coach Orlando shares a storytelling piece: Life Is A Marathon. When we're being challenged, our mindset can make the difference between succeeding and succumbing. Distance running has provided Coach Orlando a potent framework for our approach to "running this race" called life. Nick Klingensmith has received “bad news” more than he cares to count. Obstacles seem to find a way of appearing before him, although now, they more often come on his terms. Battling cancer four times, type-1 diabetes, a litany of physical injuries including herniated discs and torn chest ligaments, and the demons of alcoholism, he shifted his perspective from that of a victim long ago. Now he faces self-imposed challenges of Spartan races and marathons, yes, THOSE marathons. Balancing all the nuances of managing his medical conditions with the needs required to endure 26.1-mile runs or a slew of runs that culminated in 127 miles in 6 weeks, Nick does not do it for the personal accolades, he does it to show that you should not allow yourself to be defined by you medical or mental health issues, or allow those circumstances to be your limitations. You are only a victim of your situation if you allow yourself to be. Pick up a copy of his incredible story, “Through the Fire” on Amazon. You can also follow his treks through the Spartan courses and marathons on Instagram or Twitter.
Hugh Brasher is the Director of the London Marathon (one of the biggest marathons on the planet), philanthropist, wildly successful entrepreneur, motorcycle racer and visionary. Among other things, we speak about the transformative experience of doing hard things (like running a marathon) and the incredible love, connection and support that can happen (between total strangers) when a bunch of people all do something hard together. On some level, we're all doing a marathon (of sorts) and we all need support. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Steps into the independenceBorn in Beijing, China, Hoy remembers her early childhood not being so much fun. At the age of 13, she left her family for the first time, going to Singapore. After that, she arrived in Ohio to begin studying Computer Science Engineering at the University of Toledo.Language barriers starting domino effect barriersHoy explains exactly how difficult it was to blend into a new environment without knowing the language. One example that vividly describes this problem was the one where she ate pizza day after day because that was the only food she could point her finger at without needing to say anything else.Searching for acceptanceDescribing her efforts to become a part of the community, she claims she made some wrong decisions that led her to prison. After ending up in such a horrible place, she felt like it was just a bad dream. Unfortunately, reality woke her up in the same, unenviable situation. Not just a numberHoy soon realized that being imprisoned doesn't need to be something necessarily bad, and that she could learn a lot from that experience. Also, she started bringing in different habits into her daily routine, such as working out and strengthening her body, both physically and mentally. That was the time she started thinking that everything in our life happens for a reason.Faith is the keyHoy started to read the Bible, which was her best friend and companion on this undesirable journey. After getting out of prison, she met Rokki and became a member of her sisterhood. With all the mutual care and love, she finds it much easier to make future plans. One of them is to become a trainer and share her positive attitude with others that may be facing troubles.Follow Hoy's Journey on IG: @hoyzhangConnect with Mind, Body, Gem guests and upcoming workshops on IG: @Fit_to_navigate

Life is a marathon- Not a sprint in Nisyonos - Tests and hardships by Rabbi Daniel Kalish
‘Only the disciplined ones are free.' -Eliud Kipchoge Ugggh…. Who wants to hear about discipline? That word has been dragged around the proverbial social media/high performance/self-improvement space for far too long. What comes to mind for most are the dirty synonyms of pain, torture, and drudgery. The fruits of discipline are spoken of much more. They are pretty…. They are sweet… They are desired by everyone, yet, so few enjoy these fruits for too long…such as physical health, mental well-being, positive relationships, well earned income, etc. Our human existence is one of freedom of choice, and yet, our choices have consequences, good and bad. There is always a natural order that can not be bent. No one has freedom to change natural order, though we may bend and mold ourselves through discipline to achieve our highest self in the existing natural order of life. Take Eliud Kipchoge… the first man to ever run a sub 2 hour marathon… that's 4 minutes and 34 seconds PER MILE… for 26.2 miles! He accepted the natural order and bent himself over time, through discipline, to create a moment in time that will forever be in the history books of running and sport. Join me and my guest Matthew Gardner as we speak about our experience completing the 2021 Lake Placid Marathon… His first marathon, and my first in person marathon since 2006. The experience was one of a lifetime and the lessons we both learned through training and completing this marathon together are ones we are hoping may be beneficial to anyone listening.

Have you ever needed an outlet, but were hesitant about embarking on a new journey alone? Kari is an occupational therapist, wife, and mom of three who lives in Nevada. Today Kari shares with us how she began her running group, now known as 5:20. Like many of us, Kari was looking for an outlet and was hoping to get up early and run before taking on her day. The only issue was that she didn't want to run alone in the dark. Rather than letting the early hours or dark mornings become an excuse, Kari bravely invited a friend, and from that one invitation came an entire community that is still flourishing years later. Kari's story is encouraging, relatable, and full of great nuggets that you can take away whether a runner or not. Through her interview, you will find encouragement to not let fear hold you back from stepping into that call on your heart. Maybe just like Kari, you will find an entire community is brought about because of one simple ask. I hope you enjoy your time today at the Commons! Episode Highlights: A little on Kari's story. Morning, afternoon, evening whatever the case may be, Donna here for you personally!QUESTION: Are you running a marathon or a sprint in your life?Running life as a sprinter, we miss the three (3) lifecycles:1. Loses2. Lessons 3. BlessingsLet us take the loses, say you are sprinting through life, trying to make a name for yourself, leaving a legacy for your family or just wanting to be like MIKE. Not saying ambition is a bad thing, but you cannot step or look over people while building your empire.Because one or two things will happen. You will need the person you stepped on, or the person you looked over, may have passed away or on to someone else. The key principle with becoming a WINNER, is that experiencing loses teach you, what is valuable and what is void of value!QUOTE FOR LOSES: "Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself--Paulo CoehoThe lesson cycle seems to have a life of its own, but that is because we keep having to take the same lessons over and over again, then we ask ourselves, why can't I learn something new? Well, the Holy Spirit whispered to me, because you skipped class , that day when I taught that lesson on life. You thought, I will get my BFF to take notes, or catch it on CNN, FOX, or on Twitter, but life doesn't happen on social media outlets, it take place on a personal level. Therefore, the key principle here with becoming a WINNER in the lesson cycle, is that lessons repeated are learn the BEST and can be taught to others but this time in a LEADERSHIP ROLE! That's if you are lucky.....QUOTE FOR LESSONS: "If you really look closely, most overnight successes took a long time." ---Steve JobsNow, we save the best for last, because God meant for blessing to last!!!We miss our BLESSINGS in this cycle by being a type of flash Gordan, thinking God is too slow, His timing is off, but God the Holy Spirit is conducting a risk assessment of how you handled the last two (2) lifecycles. Because the assessment consist of a transition period which evaluates your "readiness" to become a WINNER , before the transformation from a sprinter to a marathon runner. God wants you to not only obtain the blessings but maintain them too."Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health even as thy soul (mind) prospers." So, as you look at your goals and dreams, write them down in these three lifecycle categories, to see whether or not you are a sprinter or a marathon runner, and make some adjustments accordingly.Excerpts from my book: From Greyhound To A Cap-N-GownSunday, January 1, 2012- I thank God for blessing me to see another year, because of living by faith. I was able to drove my classmate and neighbor Amy to the airport in my car, which I named Faith. Things were going pretty good in my life, all as a result of living by faith.SPIRIT HELP NOTES:Matthew 6:34, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."p.s. if you have not done so already, please leave a review on Apple Itunes, Spotify, Stitcher or by visiting my Facebook Group page (Daily Faith Walk)Thank you for your support!!!!

It has taken me years to learn patience. Still I need to work on it today. Giving up alcohol has helped with this learning curve. Making goals and accomplishing them is a great feeling. I got to feel this last week when I received my purple belt in jiu-jitsu @PMADERRY (Professional Martial Arts Academy) Derry New Hampshire 03038. It took 3yrs 9 months and 16 days to receive this but whos counting. This is one of best achievements next to not drinking for over 4yrs. Both in my case very difficult for me but completely achievable if you work hard and have patience. Car keeps Breaking and as my patience wears thin. I have to remember this part of life there will always be something to fix. Sometimes the house and others the car and then when you fix them, it will be something you didn't even think of. This takes patience and money. Which is why I say slow down you don't need to grow up so fast. I believe that most kids and yes under 25 that is how I see your age. Have no idea how much everything costs? Get your self in a good situation and have a couple months rent and a reliable car then move out of mom or dads. You could just do what I did when I turned 18, Graduate, go straight to work and leach off your rich girlfriend. Trust me this does not always work. Take advantage of what ever is in front of you. Any goal is reachable. YOU just have to do the work and reach for it. I am feelin this way this week because I am sick of this Pandemic and wish it was over. Like I am sure all of you feel the same. I have noticed that Patience is wearing thin between us all. I thought we could use a reminder that we ALL need Patience through theses tough times. In this episode Adrian attacks a commonly used quote about life that doesn't necessarily hit home for him. Has anyone ever shared something with you? Do they even understand the analogy correctly? And if they have never actually run a marathon or done much sprinting how can they say "Life is a marathon, not a sprint"? Words matter, think about them.

This is a replay of episode 60: People ask me why I chose “Life Is A Marathon” as my life's motto. It's comes from my interpretation of the Bible verse “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses… let us run with endurance the race that is set before us!” (Hebrews 12:1) The problem is what we believe the “great cloud of witnesses” is saying, yelling, at us. Is it condemnation, criticism and ridicule? Or is it shouts of encouragement, love, and support? How you run your race will depend on how you interpret the cloud of witnesses.
