One of our Tremendous Life-Changing Classics based on a Tremendously sweet figure from Hershey, Pennsylvania is Milton S. Hershey otherwise known as “The Chocolate King.” Milton S. Hershey was an incredible entrepreneur and a philanthropist; his passion for chocolate was matched only by his passion for children and yet he had none. Grew up in a broken household and unable to have children with his wife. Listen and read for yourself a quickly digestible book about the life and passion of Milton S. Hershey. When I think of the chocolate business and the way it has grown I think it was my mother’s advice that spurred me on and helped me to overcome my obstacles. As I see it, my success is the result of not being satisfied with mediocrity, and in making the most of my opportunities.

Investing in a mentor to help you transition and scale is one of the best ways you can start having massive success with your business. Kara Weaver of Weddings by Weaver joins me to talk about how working with a mentor(me!), changed the course of her business. Kara shares how working with a mentor helped her achieve the goals she set out for her business. She also opens up about how lonely it can be as an entrepreneur and how finding an online community of other women in business really eased that. Community is vital when you’re an entrepreneur as it can help you move forward, air your frustrations, and offer advice. The best advice Kara can give a small business, especially if you want to reach a level where you’re not working 60 hours a week, is to hire employees or contractors. When you have more people, who you trust and are trained, your customers will have their needs taken care of easier, without you having to face the very real threat of burn-out. Another tip for growing your business is to put systems in processes in place early so that when you do hire, your employees and contractors have something straightforward to work with and learn from. Kara explains how she worked with her mentor on her D.A.M.M. goals, and getting these processes in place was one of the first goals she achieved. Kara’s company is growing at such a steady pace. She’s been able to step back out of her business more, allowing herself and her husband to regularly go on trips. She couldn’t have achieved this without working with her mentor to help her scale her business the way she has. In this episode, we also talk about company culture and why you need to treat your employees with love and respect. When your employees love working for you and your company, they truly are your best advocates… which means your conversion rate will be higher than ever before. Kara leaves us with the best piece of advice: “Spend the time, spend the money, get the investment into yourself because your company’s not going to succeed if you don’t believe in yourself.”  Are you ready to make an investment in your future through mentorship or coaching? Have you set your D.A.M.N. goals for 2020 yet? What can you do to start scaling your business this year? Let me know in the comments on the episode page.   In This Episode: How working with a mentor can help you reach your business goals Why you need to connect with an online community of like-minded entrepreneurs to feel less lonely and more inspired How hiring employees and contractors can let your business provide a better service for your clients Why putting systems and process in place is essential for allowing your company to grow What happens when you set your D.A.M.N. goals Why you need to scale if you want to live your dream life What happens to your conversion rate when your employees love to work for you Why investing in your personal and business betterment is the best thing you can financially do for your company   Quotes: “My goal sheet is a lot smaller [than last year] and has a larger impact than having multiple goals with smaller impacts.” (14:05) “When you write down your goals, like pen and paper, write them out, you are 42% more likely to achieve them than if you just think about them.” (17:15) “If anybody’s listening to this and they have ever thought to themselves, ‘I want to create a company and I want a sustainable company that’s going to allow me to live the life that I want, and a life that is going to be manageable for me,’ you have to start with scaling. There’s no other way around it. You’re going to have to ask for help.” (22:54) “Spend the time, spend the money, get the investment into yourself because your company’s not going to succeed if you don’t believe in yourself.” (32:30)   Links Buy the Wedding Planner by Kara Weaver Find Kara Weaver & Weddings by Weaver Online Follow Weddings by Weaver on Instagram | Facebook | Pinterest Find Dr. Cortney Baker Online Follow Dr. Cortney Baker on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | LinkedIn Join From Side Hustle to CEO on Facebook Subscribe to Women in Business on Apple Podcasts   Are you a female millennial entrepreneur who wants to start or scale your service-based business but not sure where to start? While we are all striving for the best audio we can achieve, learning all the ins and outs of audio can be daunting, especially when we really just want to be focusing on the content of our podcasts. This episode is geared towards the low hanging fruit, the techniques anyone can put into place with their current equipment to immediately and dramatically increase the quality of their show. A lot of what it takes to capture great audio is a good recording environment, proper microphone technique, and recording into software that doesn't degrade the quality of your signal.   It is so much easier to capture a great signal than it is to fix a bad signal. Audio engineer and podcast producer Tom Kelly discusses the importance of getting the signal right at the source, and offers several listening exercises of audio recording under ideal conditions, and compares then against a signal recording under subpar conditions that is later "fixed" in post.   By the end of this episode, you will find that your audio quality will improve by leaps and bounds if you incorporate all the advice and methods described within. We'll get to more advanced mixing techniques later on, but none of that will matter or be effective if we're not working with great audio to begin with.     Links Buy audio nerd merch! The worst things that happen in your life, hitting rock bottom and failing businesses don’t have to be the end of it. Many entrepreneurs use these moments as learning points and inspiration on how to prepare and reinvent themselves and their new businesses. Stefanie Gass is here to talk about how she built her business helping Christian moms create multiple income streams. From a well-paying corporate job to a direct marketing empire that she dominated, Stefanie knows first hand what it’s like to lose everything you’ve worked so hard to achieve. When Stefanie’s direct marketing business collapsed, she fell into a deep depression, gained weight, and really became someone she didn’t recognize. What changed for Stefanie was a deep desire to reconnect with who she was before everything bad happened. She journaled regularly about who that person is and made small changes every day to become the woman she wanted to be. A lot of these changes were about bringing balance to her life, something she still maintains with her successful passive income business. Stefanie used her rock bottom to fuel herself into a bigger and better career than she’d previously had, something that’s entirely hers and in line with her Christian values. She attributes much of her success to structuring and planning her day and swears by a paper planner over anything electronic. Stefanie believes that relying too much on technology can lead you to waste time scrolling through social media, so she removes that temptation. One of the foundations of Stefanie’s life is living in the moment. It’s not something that came easy to her, but she shares with us some of her techniques for making sure she stays there. Stefanie wholeheartedly recommends taking dedicated time away from the thing that gives you the most anxiety, such as social media and the constant need to check-in, or even your own business. Stefanie has learned the value of outsourcing any task she can in order to bring more structure and freedom to her life. She now outsources anything from her housecleaning to some of her business tasks. Her mantra is that if it costs less to hire someone to do the task than what she would make in an hour, she outsources. Have you thought about outsourcing the things in your life that take you away from your zone of genius? How can you be more intentional about your time? What small changes can you make every day to become the woman you want to be?   In This Episode: How you can do little things every day to become the woman you want to be How you can live a life of balance Why hitting rock bottom can bring about the most amazing opportunities What the benefits of a paper planner are How you can learn to be in the moment Why you need to train yourself to step away from the thing that gives you anxiety How outsourcing some of your tasks can completely overhaul your life   Quotes: “I think balance for everyone is different. And all it is is a formula for creating a blended life of all the categories that mean the most to you.” (10:26) “I have a time and space for my phone, and I refuse to let my phone run my life, I refuse to let social media control me. So I live in this space of paper.” (18:41) “There’s a solution to every problem so there’s a way for you to prepare yourself to step away.” (23:57)   Links Buy your copy of With God She Rises! Christmas is next week! That means we are right in the middle of the Christmas “hustle,” and I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of this season leaving so many people feeling wiped out and stressed. It’s the complete opposite of what we should be feeling this time of the year, yet we’re all running around like crazy to get shopping done or finish deadlines at work, or attending a bunch of Christmas parties. There’s just this crazy “hustle” mindset that seems to set in this time of the year and we start freaking out a little bit. What we need is some space and to just slow down.  Well friends, that is the topic of this week’s show. My guest this week is Manda Carpenter, author of the “Space” devotional. She has so much insight on this topic, so we talked a ton about slowing down this time of the year to create space in our lives and maintain balance — physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, all of it. We also talked about her new book coming out in 2021, and if you’re an aspiring author, we dove into the book writing process and she gives some really great tips on how to go about that. Manda has been a huge help to me as I’ve been writing my own book, so if you’re interested at all in writing a book, this conversation is definitely for you.  I’m excited for you all to hear this conversation because I think it’s so important to hear right now. If you know someone who thinks they’re too busy to listen to this right now, they’re probably the person who needs to hear this conversation, so be sure to tell them to listen as well. Why you’ll love it: because we’ve all been ballsy, 23 year-olds who think they have life figured out. With sheer vulnerability, Garrett paints an honest picture of her younger self-sharing everything from finances to thoughts about her first job. Even more, you'll learn by her example how to "go with your gut" when life throws new jobs and new cities into your life when you're least expecting it. Greater message: life happens for you. There’s always a greater reason. Disclaimer: not all episodes will be Garrett storytelling-format.
