It’s never too late to start reducing the toxic load in your home. I’m joined by Genevieve White who brings her incredible story back from chronic illness. Genevieve also shares some insight into how to start reducing your household toxins, from easy to implement tips to longer-term projects to undertake. The Easiest & Most Impactful Way to Reduce Your Toxic Load: Open your windows every day Leave your shoes at the door Dust often with a moist rag Remove the phthalates in your home About Genevieve White Genevieve White healed herself from years of chronic fatigue, digestive disorders, and generalized pain through extensive detoxification of both her body and her living environment. This experience moved her to leave her career in marketing and become a Certified Health Coach and Environmental Health Specialist. In this capacity, she works with people on the autoimmune spectrum that haven’t been able to get the help they need from their doctors. Together they address diet and lifestyle factors that ultimately lead to more energy, better digestion, and resolved inflammation. Her knowledge and expertise make her a go-to resource for people experiencing chronic conditions, and her interviews and writing are available on a variety of online natural health summits, docu-series, and websites. The Toxic Load in Our Home Genevieve White brings quite the tale of how an unusually high toxic load made her chronically ill - to the point she didn’t know if she’d ever be well again. However, once she discovered the source of her illness: toxins - she transformed her lifestyle, reduced the toxins in her regular routine, and found her way back to herself. She explains some of the processes she went through to reduce her toxic load. Genevieve’s biggest recommendation is to undergo detoxes, especially from the use of saunas. But it’s not just the toxic load in our bodies and outside the home that we should worry about. Genevieve reveals that the air inside our home is significantly more toxic than the outside air. This is due to our use of chemical cleaners, detergents, perfumes, personal care products, and quite a few other products you might not even consider. How to Start Reducing Your Toxic Load Genevieve shares that many of our household products contain phthalates and other chemicals. She recommends replacing our storage containers, carpets, shower curtains, mattresses, and everyday cleaners. It doesn’t have to be all at once as we all know that can be an expensive undertaking, but when you do replace something, try to choose something with a lower toxic load. Environmental toxins predominantly link to the prevalence of chronic illness our society has right now. As we’ve developed more and more different types of chemicals and plastics, our bodies have come under pretty severe stress trying to keep up with it. As Genevieve says, no one’s body is built to be able to detoxify that amount of exposure. Genevieve leaves us with some parting advice to start reducing your toxic load immediately. From opening your windows every day to taking your shoes off at the door, there are simple ways you can create lasting change in your house. What products will you start replacing with lower toxic loads? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “We have way more exposures to toxins than our bodies are built for. There are over 84,000 chemicals listed for use in the US marketplace. No one’s body is built to be able to detoxify that amount of exposure.” [6:36] “What people need to be aware of is that in most situations if it says BPA-free, it’s been replaced by BPS or BPF which is just as dangerous, if not worse, than BPA. I recommend people replace these products with glass or stainless steel.” [16:56] “If you’re not detoxifying and going through the process of being really careful with getting these toxins out of your body as you’re losing weight, you’re releasing the toxins into your bloodstream which is making you sick. That’s why you keep going on the diet cycle.” [26:03] In This Episode How to remove heavy metal toxicity from your body [9:00] Why the air inside our home is more toxic than the air outside [10:30] Some of the hidden sources of plastic you need to be aware of [14:00] Why you need to replace your household plastics with less toxic materials [18:00] Why environmental toxins relate to chronic disease [24:30] How to easily reduce your household toxic load [34:00] Links & Resources Check Out Why Antioxidants are Important on the Blog and use Code ENERGY for 10% off Mitochondrial Complex Get your Free copy of How to Make or Buy Personal Care Products that Support Your Health Buy a Magnolia Barrier Protector for your Mattress Buy a Mattress Wrap to Block Off-Gassing Chemicals Learn About Safety Ratings for Household Cleaners Find Made Safe Online Find Genevieve White Online Follow Genevieve White on Instagram | Facebook Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 10: 5 Pillars Of A Toxin-free Lifestyle With Aimee Carlson Episode 32: Happy Hormones For Life With Dr. Deb Matthew Episode 15: Community And Curiosity For Longevity With Dr. Sandra Scheinbaum
If You Want To Start Allowing Your Body To Do What It Was Created For You Should: Use Dr. Will’s 4-week fasting guide to clean out your cells Start listening for your intuition and making notes of the foods that make your body feel great Find your own sweet spot when it comes to metabolic flexibility and fueling your body with what feels good for you Integrate wellness into your life infused with a true knowledge of what your body loves and hates If you want to feel good, have energy throughout the entire day, get a good night's sleep, and successfully achieve your ideal weight, it is essential to get your inflammatory levels under control. Inflammation is the driver of most major diseases, but the good news is that you can use food and fasting to fight inflammation and regulate your hormones. Gain Metabolic Flexibility and Find Food Peace Dr. Will Cole is a leading functional-medicine expert who consults people worldwide and specializes in clinically investigating underlying factors of chronic disease and customizing a functional medicine approach. His new book, Intuitive Fasting, shows how to use the powerful benefits of flexible intermittent fasting to gain metabolic flexibility and find food peace. Intuition Is Key We all have an inflammatory response system that is unique to us, which is why Dr. Will encourages the use of intuitive fasting to learn what your body loves and hates. Fasting allows your cells to clean things up and allows your body to burn fat for fuel first and sugar for fuel when you need it. Dr. Will wants you to use fasting as a way to grow in your intuitive awareness of what feels good for your body specifically so that you can adopt fasting practices into your life long term. The combination of flexible, vacillating, intermittent fasting, along with a nutrient-rich ketotarian diet, can help you find your unique sweet spot, increase your metabolic flexibility, and fuel your body with the foods you love. Not Another Fad Diet While the idea of fasting may seem like another fad diet, it couldn’t be further from that. Our bodies and genetics are designed to make the most of fasting in a healthy way, and the benefits of fasting are literally coded into our DNA. In addition to fasting, a ketotarian diet can mimic the same benefits of fasting, allowing for more powerful results. Finding the right foods for your body and when to eat them can help stop inflammation in its tracks and allow you to really get aligned with what your body needs from you. Have you ever tried fasting? Are you looking to have your intuition guide you in the way you take back control of your health? Share your thoughts on Dr. Will Cole’s Intuitive Fasting framework with me in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “Stress eating isn’t intuitive eating. And I want people to get to a place of intuition, a deep knowledge of what their body loves and what their body hates. And a great way to still that noise, to quiet and calm that noise, to recenter yourself and ground yourself, is intermittent fasting or intuitive fasting.” (8:53) “We are all going to be coming into this system of intuitive fasting at different points in our wellness journey.” (12:49) “This is not a fad diet where we are just punishing our body with deep fasts. We are finding that balance, and that is where metabolic flexibility resides.” (18:35) “I really want to encourage people, whether you are going through the things we are talking about or you know someone you love, really wake people up to the fact that these things are overcomeable, improvable, supportable things! And your body is amazingly resilient.” (24:09) “Through the pairing of flexible intermittent fasting and a clean ketogenic diet and clean carb cycling, from there, you can really know what your body loves and what your body hates. You will have a clear knowing, and that to me transcends a protocol or a diet or a plan.” (30:49) In This Episode How to start intuitive fasting and why it works so well for gaining metabolic flexibility (7:10) Recommendations for your fasting journey after the initial first four weeks (12:32) Which life-giving foods you should be focusing on and how you should be eating (14:10) Benefits that you can expect when increasing your metabolic flexibility through fasting (19:20) Why becoming more intuitive about your health is the cornerstone of sustainable wellness (29:40) Resources Mentioned: Dr. Will Cole Website Intuitive Fasting by Dr. Will Cole Follow Dr. Will on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter Related Episodes: Essentially You Episode #133: Understanding Inflammation and Your Individual Food Triggers with Dr. Will Cole Essentially You Episode #32: Calm Inflammation with the Ketotarian Diet with Dr. Will Cole Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative
I want you to think back to 2011. What were you doing a decade ago? I was unhappy with different aspects of my life, feeling restless, and starting to think I should do something else. It took me two years, but in 2013 I changed my career and haven't looked back since. If you have an inkling that something isn't quite right in your life but are getting stuck on the road to making that change, this is the episode for you. Key Takeaways If You Want To Get Out Of the Information Overload Stage You Should: Do your research but know when you have done enough Be honest with yourself about where you are at in the stages of change Meet yourself with grace and compassion Challenge yourself to take action Finding Your Intuitive Eating Sweet Spot When making a change in your life, big or small, there is a tendency to get caught up in the learning phase. Often we don't want to jump into something until we feel 100% ready, but the truth is that if you wait to feel completely ready, you will be waiting forever. Diet culture tells us to outsource our health decisions which creates a ‘one size fits all’ approach to our bodies. This is simply not the case, and intuitive eating encourages you to find the sweet spot between those external values and your own body's attunement. While information can help you prepare for this next phase of your life, it is important to remember that you need to find the middle ground between preparing and actually taking action. The 6 Stages of Change Consuming information makes us feel like we are doing something when it is really aiding us in procrastinating on making the change we are contemplating. There are six stages of change, and it is important to be honest with yourself about what stage you are at and remember that after every speed bump comes a new cycle. Doing your research is great. But when you are able to take the information you have gathered and challenge yourself to take action, that is where the real magic happens. Intuitive eating is a combination of active learning and experiential learning, and it's up to you to get out there and do the thing. What stage of change do you feel that you are at with your relationship with food? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode How to move from gathering information to practicing and taking action (5:40) Discover the sweet spot of authentic health and how to achieve it (10:30) The stages of change and how to gain insight on where you are in your journey and what next steps you should take (14:00) What to do if you are ready to take action but are getting stuck in the preparation phase (21:55) Why you shouldn’t wait until you are 100% ready to start your intuitive eating journey (30:12) Quotes “There are so many places that you can get stuck, and one of them is information overload.” (2:02) “How can we find that middle ground? How can we find the overlap? That is really why putting intuitive eating principles into practice is so important, because it helps to combat only loading yourself with information.” (13:22) “Where are you at with your own relationship with food and coming to a kinder place that isn’t so ‘all or nothing’? I want you to think about that.” (21:48) “At the end of the day, you can read the book, you can read the workbook, you can listen to all of the podcasts, you can read all the anti-diet books, you can do all of that. And some things may change...but intuitive eating by its very nature is an active experiential process.” (24:42) “Give yourself grace, it is a process. If you feel like you are going to wait until you are 100% ready, you are going to be waiting forever.” (30:28) Featured on the Show Join the Tune In Membership Here Join the Listen To Your Body Newsletter Steph Gaudreau Website Check out the full show notes here! If You Want To Build Lean Muscle and Boost Your Metabolism Based On Your Menstrual Cycle You Should: Reset your metabolism and increase your metabolic flexibility by burning fat for fuel rather than sugar Take ownership of your body and start listening to your intuition Eat and train in tune with the four phases of your menstrual cycle and your lifestyle Your menstrual cycle can impact your energy, metabolism, and even your creativity. So doesn't it make sense that you could leverage the four phases of your cycle to achieve optimal health and metabolic flexibility? While your body is constantly evolving every month, there are some simple ways that you can increase your metabolic flexibility, start eating for your cycle and become more in tune with your innate intuitive bodily wisdom. Leveraging Your Cycle for Optimal Health Dr. Stephanie Estima is an expert in metabolism and body composition. She is focused on distilling strategies in nutrition, movement, and mindset to actualize human potential, longevity, and achievement. She is here today to share ways to navigate your hormones' changing landscape to treat your body right. Eating in Tune with Your Cycle Hormone imbalance, your stress response system, your menstrual cycle, and your metabolism are all deeply interconnected. The truth is, all women are born with the ability to burn fat for fuel or sugar for fuel, but we are never taught how to access the fat-burning pathway. Dr. Stephanie suggests starting there and then moving to a female ketogenic diet to introduce a nutrition plan that is in tune with your menstrual cycle. Women are designed to have different needs during each of our four phases, but no woman is the same. Once you understand your natural rhythm and how long you stay in each phase, you can customize everything from your meal plan to your workout to better serve your body. In the long run, this will make you more metabolically flexible, decrease your perceived stress, and better prepare you for the hormonal changes in your present and future. Listen to Your Body As a woman, it is so important to learn how to listen to your body signals. Dr. Stephanie and I know that every woman is like a snowflake, and you have to take the time to learn how you uniquely operate. By taking ownership of our bodies, learning how to let your intuition be your guiding light, and understanding what you need for your female physiology, you can leverage your cycle to match up with your nutritional profile and start seeing the results you have been looking for. You get to choose the way you view your thoughts, your body, and your hormones. Perimenopause, menopause, and beyond can be an incredibly exciting, sexy, and fun time if you listen to what your body is telling you and honor and adapt to the changes your body is going through. Are you ready to embrace the confidence and self-love that leads to long-lasting sexiness? Share your experience with hormones, perimenopause, or menopause with me in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “That's where sexiness comes from, is the confidence, and the self-love, and the belief that you can actually make a change if you want too.” (14:47) “You are not going to be perfect; you are perfectly imperfect.” (31:24) “All women are born with the capacity to burn sugar for fuel, and the capacity to burn fat for fuel. The problem is we never access the fat pathway.” (36:39) “You just have to learn how long you stay in each phase of your menstrual cycle if you are still in your reproductive age and then adapt to it. That’s the hallmark of a sexy, empowered woman is because she knows herself. And one of the rights of passage, if you will, as a woman, is to understand how you are uniquely different. Not only just from men, but from other women.” (43:03) “The egg doesn't run up and down the fallopian tube looking for the guy wondering if he texted you, no! She is like ‘I am here. You might start feeling selfish or even guilty for wanting something you don’t need. But what if I told you that it was okay to want it? Here is your permission slip signed to bring more pleasure into your life. Steps to Creating More Passion in Your Life Allow yourself to want things. Figure out what you want and what you need. Then make room for them both. Don’t fall into the trap of comparison. The Chief Complaint: “I Don’t Need It, But I Want It” There is such a feeling of guilt associated with wanting something we think we don’t need. What if you actually start allowing yourself to want something? Human beings should experience pleasure in life - and often! It’s Okay to Want There is definitely a difference between the feelings of need and want. Need comes from that basic necessity; something like food, shelter, companionship. So when you have all your base needs met, I get how it can feel guilty to want something on top of it. What I want you to understand is that it’s okay to want something. It’s okay to experience pleasure. Pleasure feels so slow and so good, it’s a feeling we want to prolong and experience often. It’s important for us to experience pleasure as often as we can. When you’ve started allowing yourself to feel pleasure regularly, it’s easier to figure out what you actually want. Asking yourself what you want, truly and at your core, is so healthy and we can all stand to allow ourselves to want a little bit more. Comparison is the Thief of Joy I’m saying it’s important to figure out what YOU want because that all too real fear of missing out does come into play here. If someone you know allows themselves to want something pleasurable, it’s so easy to think that might be something we want, too. This comparison can impact that connection with yourself to figuring out what it is you actually want. And I don’t just mean what you want off the top of your head… Put all your different hats on and figure out what you want the most in each of those aspects of your life. Finally, it’s so important for you to give yourself space to figure out both what you want and what you need. Then make room for both of these independent thoughts and feelings in your life. Even if you’re having a tough time drawing that line between need and want, who cares, it’s fine. There doesn’t need to be a very solid line because those things might change. The important thing is to check in with yourself to see where you are in your life.” [23:19] “Right now, what do you want? Are you feeling shameful around your body and trying to use that shame as a motivator to make changes? I have some bad news for you; it is not going to work. Shame not only has a profoundly negative impact on our mental health, but it is also harmful to how we see ourselves as people and our ability to make long-lasting change. Key Takeaways If You Want To Stop Shaming Yourself Or Letting Others Shame You, You Should: Block and delete any negative talk or energy out of your life Get curious about where your shame and where your self-judgment is coming from Start to notice what is truly coming from inside of you Get clear on your personal values and your 'here and now' motivators Why Shame Doesn’t Work Shame comes from a very internalized place of believing that you are inherently flawed. Shame is different from guilt, which is a contextualized feeling about something you did rather than who you are. Shame is scientifically proven to be a debilitating emotion that can come from external and internal narratives that are systematically pushed upon us. Shame, especially when it comes from the outside, negatively impacts how we see ourselves as people, and makes us hide, get smaller, and remove ourselves. How To Create Sustainable Change Shaming yourself or hating yourself into change simply does not work and can greatly impact how you see yourself and others. Social media and the patriarchy are only exacerbating this issue, which is why it is essential to treat yourself with kindness and approach change in a way that feels good to you. Instead of operating from a place of shame, challenge yourself to create change in a way that feels sustainable and good. Block that body-shaming Instagram account, stop engaging with ‘concern trollers’, and get curious about where your thoughts are coming from. When you have patience with yourself and stop linking your self-worth to your body size or shape, real change can happen. Are you ready to stop using shame as a motivator, only to end up feeling worse about yourself? Share how you are going to tweak your mindset away from shame with me in the comments section of the episode page. In This Episode How guilt and shame play out in how you feel about yourself and changing your body (9:03) Scientific examples of how shame and guilt can impact your physical and mental health (13:15) The difference between guilt and shame and why shame is harmful to who we are as people (16:50) Why concern trolling is a serious problem for those in marginalized bodies on social media (23:20) Simple tips if you are falling into patterns of shame for yourself and negative self-talk (30:55) Quotes “Shame is a normal human experience, but this chronically feeling shameful can be really harmful for our health, especially the mental health aspect of our overall health.” (14:30) “That was so powerful, and really put it into perspective of why shaming people for their bodies does damage, and why shame for ourselves is really something to investigate and heal if it is persistent.” (16:47) “Guilt may be more powerful in terms of helping us make change, and maybe less harmful to us if we are really able to make things right. But shame, especially when it comes from other people, is so damaging to us, and it can be really harmful to our health, really harmful to our mental state, and really harmful to how we see ourselves as people.” (20:59) “Thoughts affect feelings and feelings drive our actions. So if you feel guilty, or shameful or shitty, generally speaking, how do you act or react? It is typically not going to be a change you feel really great about.” (30:24) “Getting clear about a motivator in your life that is coming from a place of expansiveness, possibility, curiosity, growth, and transformation is far more powerful than hating yourself into change.” (34:59) Featured on the Show Join the Tune In Membership Here Mindful Eating Tool The Scientific Underpinnings and Impacts of Shame Join the Listen To Your Body Newsletter Steph Gaudreau Website Check out the full show notes here! Born into the foster care system, Tanya has been in eight homes before the age of two, homeless for six years starting the age of 12, had a pedophile for a stepdad, and was badly beaten at home before she decided to run away. With $18 in her pocket and all odds against her, Tanya continued to trudge forward and ultimately came out the other end triumphant. Not without struggle, Tanya eventually came to terms with the people in her past and the betrayals that have transpired throughout her life. But what is truly admirable in her journey is her eagerness and dedication to make it through despite her circumstances and her willingness to help others do the same. One of my clients, Dr. Mona Singh, joins me for a live coaching session. We talk about why working with me is different, successful weight loss, how to navigate your urges, what to do if you find yourself overeating, setting a baseline fitness level, and so much more! Key Takeaway Remember that nothing is off the table! I’d ask that you wait to eat it until your urge passes. If you still want to eat it then, go ahead and don’t have any guilt about it. About Dr. Mona Singh I’m joined by my inspiring client, Dr. Mona Singh, who was one of my very first coaching clients. I’m delighted to share this interview with her where we talk about her experience with weight loss and gain and navigating her urges. Coaching with Dr. Ali Mona talks about how working with me is different from any other method of weight loss she’d tried before. The biggest thing for her was the focus on thought work and learning about why she struggles to control her eating. This was so helpful for her because understanding these parts of herself made it easier to change her eating habits, rather than to try to just not eating something. A big piece of my approach to weight loss is that absolutely nothing is off the table. Mona’s been so successful in her transformation because she knows she can eat whatever she wants. We’ve even worked a Coke a day into her plan. Following a healthier eating plan isn’t about controlling your urges, and you will definitely still have them. What it is, however, is about learning to sit with your urges and not give in to them until they start to fade. If you still want to eat whatever you were craving, absolutely go ahead - remember, nothing is off the table! Eating After You’re Full One of Mona’s current concerns is that she continues to eat after she’s feeling full and satisfied. We dive into a coaching session here, unpacking what she’s feeling during these moments. If you find yourself doing this, ask yourself what you’re really feeling that’s leading you to overeat. Turning to exercise, we talk about the importance of finding a baseline minimum amount that you’ll stick to each week. Setting this minimum, even if it’s ten minutes, three times a week, is a great foundation to growing your fitness routine. Finally, we share our love of living in the gray zone. It’s not about all or nothing. It’s about finding what works for you and sticking with it, even if that’s imperfect. Homework for Women Physicians What’s your baseline minimum exercise routine? How does your mindset impact how much you eat? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode How working with me is different from other weight loss methods [7:30] Why you don’t have to restrict your favorite foods to lose weight [9:30] What it feels like to navigate your urges [12:00] Why you need to slow down and ask yourself what’s really going on when you are full and satisfied, but want to keep eating more [20:30] What happens when you set a baseline minimum amount of exercise to commit to weekly [27:00] What magic lies in the gray zone [30:00] Quotes “You helped me figure out all the thought-work stuff first, then we started on how we could change what I’m eating. That made so much more sense to me. And it was so much easier. As soon as I could do the thought work and I could understand why I’m having negative thoughts, then eating is not a struggle and I realized I don’t need to rely on food for every single thing.” [8:25] “It’s amazing how much just changing your mind helps you start to eat better on your own.” [10:02] “The gray zone was really where it was at. If You Want To Find Your Weight Loss Code You Should: Stop believing that everything that is working for other women is also going to work for you Do a hormone test that tells you what your body is asking for and when Find a balance between a calorie-restrictive diet and a way to nourish your adrenal system and thyroid I know first hand how frustrating it can be to not know what is going on with your body. The #1 most disruptive symptom I hear from women in perimenopause and beyond is unexplained weight gain and weight loss resistance. Often times it’s a combination of hormones and lifestyle that can be the culprit, but it takes some work to figure out your unique weight loss code. You Are Not Alone in This Struggle Karen Martel is a Certified Transformational Nutrition Coach and weight loss and hormone expert. After finding stubborn weight after the birth of her first child, Karen tried everything that other women were doing but still found no success. It wasn’t until a naturopath ran a hormone lab that she realized the real source of her issues. Karen is determined to bring this knowledge to other women, and help them breakthrough weight loss resistance to find their own personal weight loss code. Through nutrition and hormone optimization, Karen is passionate about helping the millions of other women dealing with these issues figure their bodies out. The Goldilocks Protocol Almost every woman in North America is dealing with some sort of cortisol or insulin issue but doesn’t know it. When we enter our late 30’s and early 40’s, our progesterone and estrogen start to drop and can wreak havoc on our hormone levels. A common side effect of this change in hormones is weight gain, but it takes an individualized protocol to figure out what is going to work for you. Over-exercising, restricting our food intake, and trying to place a bandaid on our root cause of hormone issues is not doing you any good. You can’t lie to yourself about your health, and it is time you started listening to what your body is trying to tell you to find lasting change. Finding The Diet That Works For You As women, we are constantly bombarded with the next new diet that promises to cure all of our concerns. In reality, these fad diets are ruining your metabolism and making us suffer. Methodologies such as the ketogenic diet or intermittent fasting can work as a therapeutic way to get your hormones back on track, but they are not sustainable in the long term, especially for women. Karen recommends a primal based diet, which is easier to follow and puts you in a natural caloric deficit without all of the sufferings. While there is no magic pill to fix your root cause issues, coming to terms with that and putting the work into figuring out your personal weight loss code can have a game-changing effect on your overall health. Are you ready to get to the bottom of your stubborn weight gain and weight loss resistance? Share which of Karen’s tips you are going to implement to discover your personal weight loss code with me in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “There are so many women that are going through what I am going through. And everybody looks at them like ‘well you are not working out hard enough, you are not eating perfect enough, you are not calorie counting’. And I was like, that is the worst advice for somebody like myself and what I was going through.” (10:55) “When women start to get to this stage in their life, this perimenopausal stage in their late 30’s and early 40’s, you really need to start looking at it from this very holistic point of view.” (16:51) “We know that fasting is really hard on your adrenals. So here we have this society of overly stressed-out women who are then fasting all day long and eating a low carb diet, and many of them with undiagnosed hypothyroidism. And that low carb stress, because fasting is stress, is just putting fuel to the fire. And women are really wrecking their metabolisms when they overdo this.” (22:13) “You can use these diets as a therapeutic tool to help you reverse the insulin resistance and help you bring down that inflammation, but then as soon as possible you want to be bringing back in a lot of those good carbohydrates that are still promoting lower inflammation.” (32:04) “The sooner you come to terms with the fact that there is no quick fix, and the more you can really start to dig into what your weight loss code is and taking the time and having patience with yourself to try these different things you will figure out what is going to work for your body.” (34:14) In This Episode How to deal with weight loss resistance in perimenopause and beyond (15:04) Things that you can do to mitigate dropping estrogen levels and hormonal imbalance (17:35) Why the fad diet you think may be good for you is actually ruining your metabolism (21:21) The importance of eating to your cycle to find your weight loss code (26:20) Why hormone testing and primal diets are the best way to understand your body (32:21) Resources Mentioned: Register for the Perimenopause and Menopause Relief Summit Karen Martel Website The Other Side of Weight Loss Podcast Follow Karen on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube Related Episodes: Essentially You Episode #237: The Truth Behind Stubborn Weight Gain After 40 Years Old Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative

Improving your overall health and wellness is more than just what you eat and how much you move. Those pieces are important, but Shawn Wells joins me to talk about how optimal health also includes slowing down and supplementing well. The Best Supplements to Take Vitamin D Berberine Curcumin CBD Vitamin C Polyphenols About Shawn Wells Shawn Wells MPH, LDN, RD, CISSN, FISSN is the world’s leading nutritional biochemist and expert on Health Optimization. He has a Master’s degree in Nutrition and a minor in Exercise Science. He has formulated over 500 supplements, food, beverages, and cosmeceuticals and patented 10 novel ingredients and is now known as the Ingredientologist - the scientist of ingredients. Formerly a Chief Clinical Dietitian with over a decade of clinical experience, he has counseled thousands of people on natural health solutions such as keto, paleo, fasting, and supplements. Shawn has personally overcome various health issues including Epstein-Barr Virus, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, depression, insomnia, obesity, and a pituitary tumor. As a world-renowned thought-leader on mitochondrial health, Shawn has been paid to speak on five different continents. His insights have been prominently featured in documentaries, nationally syndicated radio programs, and regularly on morning television. His expertise can help any health-conscious individual to better manage stress and experience higher performance and more energy through utilizing his practical research-backed solutions. Testing Your Blood Markers Shawn Wells brings with him a wealth of information, much of it based on his own experience with health issues. His personal story is one we all need to hear to appreciate what he’s gone through and why he uses these experiences to fuel his future research and purpose. Shawn truly wants to help other people heal their health issues to live longer, fuller lives. Something Shawn recommends is to get your blood markers tested to determine your biological age. This is often drastically different from your chronological age and it is something you can impact with diet, exercise, and wellness routines. Along with this, Shawn discusses what your optimal blood markers should be. These markers are often different to what many medical professionals deem sufficient or “not deficient” but could still be causing you health problems. Supplements and Slowing Down for Optimal Health Shawn recommends some of his favorite vitamins and supplements to take regularly in order to keep your body healthy. Most importantly, however, he talks about why everyone should increase their polyphenol intake to achieve optimal health. Polyphenols exist in plant foods and are just packed with antioxidants. They can help with so many processes in our body, including improving our cardiovascular health, treating digestion issues, and helping to manage our weight. It’s not just supplements, diet, and exercise that Shawn recommends to achieve your optimal health. There are so many self-care practices that are essential to living your best life. Shawn explains how he does some intentional breathing exercises before he even gets out of bed in the morning to help retrain his thoughts and brain processes. Finally, Shawn’s top wellness tip is definitely for you to slow down and learn to enjoy life again. Not everything has to be go-go-go all the time. He takes inspiration from the lifestyle present in the blue zone, Sardinia, where people slow down for meals, eat whole foods, and enjoy good wine. Do you know any of your nutrient and hormone markers? What supplements have you already introduced to your routine? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “You either win or you learn. There’s no lose. You can drop all the regret. Everything has put you here right now. I feel so blessed for all the things that I’ve been through all the health issues, all the depression, the suicidal thoughts - all of it. Because I’m here, right now. It’s all served me to get here.” [12:52] “Berberine is an incredibly powerful compound. Everyone, and certainly all the 88%, should be taking this.” [29:45] “You can retrain your brain and just change the stories. If you don’t want to be the victim anymore, stop telling yourself stories where you’re the victim. Stop with the victim crap and start telling stories where you’re the hero. Start using that language with yourself. It’s time to be your own best advocate and best friend and start saying positive things.” [39:57] “The biggest shift for me was when I stopped hacking and hating myself and started loving myself and really doing these things with a different intent. Not trying to get more and level up, but just enjoying life. Put more life in my years than years in my life.” [55:21] In This Episode How to check on your overall health picture to see what your biological age is [17:30] What the optimal markers of your labs are [20:30] Why berberine is the most important supplement you can take [26:00] Why you should increase your polyphenol intake [34:30] How to retrain your brain with breathing exercises [39:30] How slowing down and showing yourself self-love and care can calm your entire nervous system [47:00] Links & Resources Beginners Guide: When And How To Supplement With Ketones Fasting: Is It Different For Women? With the new year rapidly approaching, you might be thinking about your goals for 2021. What if those goals had nothing to do with your pant size? I challenge you to reframe how you are working on your health without directly connecting them to your body size. Key Takeaways If You Want To Set Health Goals That Don’t Include Weight Loss, You Should: Reframe your mindset by unraveling diet culture and embracing what feels true to you Approach your mental, emotional, and spiritual health in the same regard as your physical health Work toward a mindset of self-care on all levels and focus on total body health rather than weight loss Creating Goals That Aren't Based On Your Size A fellow Steph is here to help me unpack what it means to set health goals that have nothing to do with weight loss. Steph Dodier is an intuitive eating coach who went from being culturally embedded in diet culture to radically reframing what it means to work on your health without it being connected to your body size. Steph is passionate about helping women live healthy without being on a diet and sharing her techniques for living a healthy lifestyle separate from society's desire to fit into a smaller body. Unraveling Diet Culture Change is only possible when it happens at the core of who you are. Unraveling diet culture can genuinely shake the foundation of who you are or what you thought you believed in. While this can seem daunting, it is important to see this new mindset as an opportunity to analyze where your previous thoughts have come from and whether they truly align with what you want. Viewing your mindset as an opportunity to break away from the definition of health that diet culture has co-opted and instead embrace your own definition of health is the first step to understanding what true health really is. Food Freedom in 2021 How do you define health? While advertisements tell us that your health is solely physical, it is truly a combination of the four bodies, including mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health. By redistributing your energy to all four components of your overall health, you can work towards health in every aspect of the term. 2021 is the year that you can work towards freedom and focus on being healthier rather than just smaller. Steph’s voice is the voice you need to ring in the new year and can help you reject diet culture, set goals that don't include weight loss and help you feel better outside of your physical body. Are you ready to enter into the new year focusing on what makes your body feel good? Share your key takeaways from this episode and this year with me in the comments section of the episode page. In This Episode How to liberate yourself from diet culture through feminism (7:46) Dismantling the possibility of rejecting diet culture while still desiring to be in a smaller body (13:21) How to set goals for your health in a new and different way (17:40) Discover how your mental health, emotions, and spirituality play into your physical health (23:55) The difference between moderation versus abstaining when it comes to your food choices (26:19) Quotes “I teach it from that place of feminism, and that place of empowerment. And that connects with a certain group of women that are willing or at that place in their life where they are seeking power and seeking power for their own life.” (10:13) “Remember, it is a thought, it is not a fact. And I think that is where the power lies, is recognizing that your desire to lose weight is just a thought, and you don’t have to believe in it, grab it and entertain it. It does not have power over you.” (15:10) “The World Health Organization defines health as both mental, emotional, social, and yes, physical. Yet we are trained through tv advertising, marketing, even through my own medical training, to see health as just physical.” (19:48) “There is physical restriction and there is psychological restriction, and moderation to me is a psychological restriction. It may have to be where you live at until you are willing to trust yourself more until you do the work to trust yourself more, and then gradually moderation will go away.” (27:52) “I can help you be healthy. Here are all the things that you can do to be healthy, and none of it is going to give you a smaller body, but you are going to be healthier. You are going to move your body easier, you are going to have less inflammation, you are going to have all the things! Do you still want to lose weight?” (33:55) “What if, in 2021, we focus on everything else but the size of your pants. What would happen? That’s my challenge to people.” (36:40) Links Join the Tune In Membership Here Going Beyond The Food Podcast Stephanie Dodier Website Conquer and Thrive Community Program Join the Listen To Your Body Newsletter Steph Gaudreau Website Check out the full show notes here! But, if you are prepared with practical ways to get through and understand a bad body image day, you can stop those gremlin thoughts in their tracks and reclaim the power you give your body. Bri is passionate about helping others maneuver through their body image journey and heal the relationship that her clients have with their bodies. Getting Over Your Gremlin Thoughts Bri views the nasty thoughts or critical self-talk we engage with as your ‘gremlin voice’. These thoughts can often be messy and uncomfortable, which is why we cover them up with the stories we have been told by diet culture. If you want to push through these gremlin voices, you need to acknowledge your inner dialogue, allow space for grief, and give yourself permission to be where you are right now, regardless of where everybody else is. By auditing your thoughts and focusing on the ones that align with your core values, you can choose to love yourself in a way that feels right for you. Healing Your Body Image Relationship Body image is not just about how you look. Body image encompasses everything from body positivity to privilege and your relationship with diet culture. The work begins when you start to question the stories that you tell yourself and take the leap into the tidal wave of grief and acceptance. While it is not always easy, dismantling how we treat ourselves and our bodies is essential in healing your relationship with your body and getting over your bad body image days with grace. How are you giving yourself permission to be where you are now during this holiday season? Share which of Bri’s tips and techniques you are going to implement with me in the comments on the episode page. Body image is also how you believe others view you, how those belief systems have you show up in the world. And there is a piece of body positivity in society of how accessible life is for you in your body.” (12:31) “I never believed that I could love my body until it looked the way I wanted it to. And it’s five years later, and I love my body. I don’t always love the way it looks or the way it moves, but I love my body, I love the vessel that it is and how it brings me closer to the values of connection and relationship and bringing good to the world.” (26:13) “Grief is sort of like a tidal wave. If you resist it, it persists. It pulls you deeper and deeper. As opposed to if you just ride out with it, eventually, it puts you back onshore. Because that is what emotions do, we don’t stay in one place forever.” (31:50) “I am going to honor my body, and this is how I am going to choose to love myself this holiday season.” (37:05) Links Join the Tune In Membership Here Body Grievers Group Coaching Body Image Supervision Cohort Follow Body Image With Bri on Instagram Unpacking the Knapsack of Privilege Article Join the Listen To Your Body Newsletter Steph Gaudreau Website Check out the full show notes here! #194. You guys know that Bryan and I are passionate believers that drifting is the #1 enemy to living a powerful life. Drift is that state of existence where you think you’re in conscious control of the decisions you’re making…but in actuality it’s your unconscious beliefs, outdated habits and patterns that are piloting your plane…taking you to destinations you don’t desire to go. This is why you can have all sorts of success on paper, but have the experience of unfulfillment on the inside. That disconnect is a dead indicator of when you’re drifting in life. We’ve all been there before, some of you may be there now, and we’ll all eventually find ourselves in that state of drift again at some point in the future. But how long you stay stuck in drift is a choice. You can just as easily choose to build the muscle to bring awareness to when you’re in a state of drift, and to break free from it with speed and precision. And when you’re able to do that consistently, you start to live a life of your own design…a life that you’re inspired to live. So today, we’ve got one powerful brother who’s broken through drift time and time again…to create a life he loves living. I’d like to introduce you my friend, Raj Jana. Who is Raj Jana: Raj is an entrepreneur and investor who owns stakes in 9 companies He’s been featured in Forbes, Inc, Entrepreneur and been personally mentored by Daymond John of Shark Tank fame He’s also the host of the Stay Grounded podcast, a show featuring leaders on their inner work journeys Raj is the son of Indian Immigrants who came to this country with less than $60 in their pockets…so Raj wanted to make his parents proud by graduating college and landing a 6 figure job right out of school But something shifted for him when his corporate cubemate died of a heart attack 3 months before his retirement date…causing Raj to question how he was building his life In This Episode How to turn yourself into the biggest horse in your life that you can bet on The #1 book that helped Raj break free from his conventional, predictable life How he turned his cubicle job with a side hustle into a multi-million dollar business How ending an 8 year relationship earlier this year exposed how he wasn’t quite the man he needed to be attract the women he desired Why you have to be honest with yourself about who you are as a man today…and whether that man is up to the task of creating what you desire in business and in relationship How losing both his beloved grandmother and aunt to COVID within weeks of each other…and then contracting COVID himself…provided him with one of the most grueling but powerful opportunities to fully feel grief, growth and ultimately, gratitude 4 book recommendations to build a strong inner foundation Raj’s Info: Website: https://www.rajjana.com Podcast: Stay Grounded Recommended Episodes: Ep 148: How to Lead with Vulnerability and Step Into Healthy Masculinity with Dominick Quartuccio Ep: 149: Why Death is Our Greatest Teacher with Asher Packman Ep 151: Transforming Your Money Into a Source of Purpose, Peace and Power with Finnian Kelly Books Referenced in the Show: King Warrior Magician Lover by Robert Moore 4 Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It by Kamal Ravikant You Are Enough by Panache Desai

This episode with guest Kamapala Chukwuka is all about something most women I know can relate to: low self esteem/confidence. The feeling of imposter syndrome, losing yourself in what others think of you or even doubting yourself and your capabilities which leads to playing small, placing too much power on external things and takes us further away from we really are. You don’t have to completely give up your holiday baking - just make it more natural and healthy! I’m joined by Dr. Carol Lourie to talk about gluten and sugar substitutions you can make to keep your holiday baking traditions alive while honoring your hormones. Tips for Gluten-Free Baking Know what kind of flour you should use for the type of baking Get a flour with Teff in it Leave your eggs out the night before you plan to use them Leave the butter out overnight Check your baking time You might have to change the liquid component About Carol Lourie Carol Lourie is a dedicated practitioner with over three decades of clinical experience as a Naturopath, Acupuncturist, and Homeopath. The environmental impact of our society has severely impacted women’s health and hormones, and more than ever, women are suffering from hormonal imbalances such as PMS, PCOS, thyroid disturbances, infertility, peri and menopausal difficulties, and even breast cancer. Restoring hormonal balance involves taking charge of as many aspects of your environment — internal and external — as possible, and the emotional landscape must always be considered for there to be real healing. After 30 years and thousands of patients, Carol has witnessed how “Healing is always possible.” Remove Toxins From Your Kitchen Not only is Dr. Carol Lourie a naturopath and homeopath, but she’s also a trained baker who’s spent years adapting recipes to be gluten-free - and tasty! In this episode, she’s sharing her best tips to turn your kitchen into a healthy oasis and create delicious gluten-free, sugar-free treats. Carol recommends giving your kitchen a complete overhaul. Remove toxic materials, such as plastics and non-stick pans, replace them with cast-iron and wood, and ditch the gluten-containing and sugar-laden foods so common in an American diet. In fact, Carol believes a modified Mediterranean diet is the key to longevity. This diet is high in vegetables and gluten-free grains, healthy fats, and lean meats. Carol explains why you should make certain kitchen swaps for healthier living. The chemicals contained in plastic leach into your food - this is why you should never use plastic with heat! Tips to Go Gluten and Sugar-Free Two food groups Carol believes you should eliminate from your diet are gluten and sugar. Gluten, while delicious, is very bad for your hormones and causes many contradictions. Plus, when you eat it in the morning, you’re more likely to get energy crashes throughout the day. Sugar is another disaster for your hormones. With the holidays coming up, it’s so tempting to want to eat all the yummy treats and baked goods. Carol explains how you can make sugar swaps so these treats aren’t completely off the table, just different and healthier than you’re used to! Carol recommends sugar substitutes such as maple syrup, dates, and honey for natural sweetness without the damaging impact on your hormones. Plus, you’ll need to use considerably less of these types of sweeteners. What’s your favorite natural sweetener? Have you ditched plastic in your kitchen yet? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “Those plastic utensils are very toxic for you. They have a chemical in them that’s released into the food that mimics estrogen.” [15:41] “Sometimes the baking time with gluten-free is going to be less than with regular, so you have to check it a little bit more.” [29:46] “If it doesn’t turn out perfect, it’s not going to be a horrible disaster. You just have to lower your perfectionist expectations when you’re baking gluten-free and realize that it’s a process to learn how to do it.” [30:14] “Go to nature. What’s in nature? Honey, maple syrup, maple sugar, monk fruit, coconut sugar - it’s all from nature. You can’t go wrong with that. We have options.” [39:21] In This Episode How to revamp your kitchen to be more healthy for your longevity [7:30] Why you should transition to eating a modified Mediterranean diet [9:30] What kitchen swaps you can make to reduce your toxic load [13:30] Why gluten-containing foods cause you to have energy crashes [22:30] Why sugar is bad for our hormones [32:15] What substitutes you can use for sugar-free baking [37:00] Why you absolutely have to find the kind of fun, positive movement that you enjoy to keep you active [41:00] Links & Resources Get Carol’s Free Gift: Gluten-Free Holiday Baking Guide The Path of Breast Cancer Find Dr. Carol Laurie Online Follow Dr. Carol Laurie on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 28: Holiday Party Tips + Hair Mineral Analysis Testing With Veronica Worley Episode 25: Tips From The Ingredient Guru Mira Dessy Breast Cancer Conqueror Dr. Veronique Desaulniers
I want to share an amazing story with you today. There's a lot to celebrate in this woman that came to me, and she basically was on her knees saying, "I know I need to change. I know I need transformation. I just don't know exactly what that could look like because I feel like I've tried everything." Janesa L. is a client of mine that recently came to me and said, "Diane, I've been following your work for about five years, and I've just been silently following everything that you say and it feels like you're speaking to my heart, feels like you're speaking to my soul." But she waited for a long time to reach out to me because perhaps part of her wasn't really ready to do something about it. She came to me, and you'll listen to her in this journey as we do shed a lot of tears in this one. You'll probably be able to relate to it because it's a real woman's journey of feeling loss and feeling like nobody would understand her emotions and her sadness or what to do to help fix her because a big part of her believed that she was broken. She was struggling with a lot of things when she came to me. She was struggling with her emotions, her gut. She had trauma from childhood wounds and a lot of stress. And she didn't know if there was anything that she could do about it because she'd been taking 10 supplements plus a day. She tried all different kinds of doctors and labs and treatments to figure out what's wrong with her. But she just felt like she was lifeless. Take a listen to what she went through to find her freedom, and I have a feeling that every single one of you listening is going to relate and resonate with everything that she says because there are many paths to freedom and wellness and feeling the best that we were designed to feel. And hers is a windy path, just like yours might be. Janesa's story is a wake-up call for us all. That if we can really, really get real and have a relationship with our bodies and learn to listen to them and understand what they're trying to say, then we can find our freedom. We can be free from the symptoms and the suffering and the sickness that plagues us every single day. In This Episode: How to beat the self-soothing behaviors that are slowly KILLING YOU The reason how one addiction can slyly turn into another The loss of passion can turn into RECLAIMED PURPOSE with CHI How the healing journey is not meant to be perfect A very beautiful yet HOT MESS-TERPIECE of a journey that may be closer to yours than you think My Message for Those Struggling: There's a lot of you out there. You're going to a lot of different doctors. You're going to do a lot of different prescriptions. You're even trying antidepressants. In this case, Janesa was doing many of these things. She was numbing out with food. She didn't realize how much she was numbing out with food until we started really analyzing. She went through AA to get rid of her alcoholism addiction. But the addiction patterns did not stop with AA. They simply transferred from alcohol over to sugar, carbohydrates, gluten. And when I looked at her soul tests and her hormone tests, and she was able to see what her labs are trying to say because I helped them help what my clients understand through my filter of how we are swallowing our emotions and how we're taking our anger and frustration and sadness out on our body. We wear our emotions on our sleeve and they show up with symptoms, but many of us feel powerless to it. Like there's nothing that we can do. So we continue to numb out. Janesa's story is like so many of we women who have been shamed and belittled and harassed to just take the pill because that was what was next for her. She didn't know how to numb out any more because the food was no longer working. She didn't have her alcohol. So she was finally willing to face herself. The healing journey is not meant to be perfect. It's not meant to be 100% clear. It's a mess. It can be very messy. But what I say to my clients is you can be a hot mess and a masterpiece at the same time. I call it a hot masterpiece. Janesa, I love you. And every one of you warriors listening and who have supported me on this path on CHI and the Cleanse Heal Ignite Podcast, I love you as well. So please take that love, bring it to your heart, turn this into wisdom and feel some of the parts of you that maybe you have swallowed back for a very long time, thinking that you needed permission from someone else like myself to feel. And emotions are there to teach you something, not to torture you. Quotes “[Janesa] is finally feeling the emotions she suppressed, that we found living in her gut. Why do we have disease? We ignore these emotions like they’re bad. If they continue to get the best of you, and live and you, and hurt you, then yes, they’re bad. But to feel them, is to free them.” [50:56] "My message is: you can afford it, you're not too busy with kids. We make the time for what we want and we make the time for what's important. When we don't have time for something, it's because we aren't making it important enough." If You Want To Best Prepare for Your 4th Trimester You Should: Map out your support before giving birth to make sure you will have the village you need to raise your child Give yourself space to care for yourself and set aside time that is just for you Nourish your body with the right foods and supplements to support your hormones Be prepared and listen to your body to know when you are ready to resume normal life after giving birth No matter how many books you read, courses you take, conversations you have, or advice you have been given, having a baby, especially for the first time, can bring moments of uncertainty, exhaustion, and bliss. Navigating your new body, and your new baby, can be a significant adjustment, but it is possible to take on this beautiful time with ease and grace. Understanding Your 4th Trimemester with Dr. Cleopatra Kamperveen Dr. Cleopatra is The Fertility Strategist and Executive Director of the Fertility & Pregnancy Institute and is back for round two of our pregnancy discussion. Dr. Cleopatra is an expert when it comes to the two phases of pregnancy that are often ignored by society, the primemester, and the 4th trimester. Today Dr. Cleopatra is here to paint a picture of what life looks like postpartum so that we can be prepared with as much knowledge as possible before bringing our super babies into the world. Always Be Prepared The transitional period between birth and the first 12 weeks postpartum, otherwise known as the 4th trimester, can be physically and mentally draining for mama and for the baby. While there is no way to fully prepare for what to come, it is crucial that you put a plan into place before your baby arrives so that you can be prepared for what is to come and plan accordingly. Mapping out your support, setting aside your time, and nourishing your body with the right foods and supplements can have a huge impact on your ability to transmit health from one generation to the next. By taking care of yourself and your baby, you can face this new period of discovery with ease and grace. The Love Cocoon Taking care of a new baby and yourself is full-time work. While it is important to be realistic about what you are both going to need, it is not all doom and gloom. Knowing your limitations, asking for help, and finding connections are all incredible ways to focus on keeping you and your baby healthy and happy. The 4th trimester can be treated as a love cocoon, but you need to be real and honest with your experiences to your support group to be able to enjoy this magical time. Are you about to welcome your own bundle of joy? In what ways are you preparing for your 4th trimester? Let me know in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “There is no way for a mom to be well in the 4th trimester if her baby isn't growing beautifully. And similarly, it's much easier for a baby to be growing beautifully and adjusting to the outside world when mama is doing awesome and feeling supported.” (9:23) “If you are feeling off, I want you to make sure that you seek help and you get the help that you need.” (22:38) “Anytime you incorporate some bioidenticals or natural sources of hormones that you want to know that it has the potential to impact that balance that can impact your milk production. It doesn’t mean it will, but pay attention to it.” (29:25) “As much as possible, get this information and get this plan in place during your pregnancy. Don’t rely on the fact that its going to be easy for you to do that during the 4th trimester because it is actually going to be more challenging.” (33:56) “If you are cleared and you don’t feel like you can exercise yet, that you can have sex yet, that you can go back to work yet, then I really really hope that you are able to not do those things until you want to do them.” (37:35) In This Episode How to navigate your fourth trimester with or without the right type of support (8:07) Tips for supporting your hormone levels once you have delivered your baby (18:23) The huge role your support system can play in your postpartum depression (22:09) Which foods and supplements you should take to stay healthy physically and mentally in your fourth trimester (26:30) Why it is okay to listen to your body over your doctor when it comes to getting back to ‘normal’ after giving birth (34:00) Resources Mentioned: The Fertility & Pregnancy Institute Website The Ultimate Fertility Checklist Related Episodes: Episode 242: How to Eat and Supplements During Pregnancy to the Health of Mama and Baby with Dr. Cleopatra Kamperveen Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative

Successfully making it through the holidays comes down to having a party plan and sticking to your nutrition goals. I’m joined by Veronica Worley who shares her best advice for enjoying the holidays. We also talk about the importance of proper nutrition, including why you should remove gluten, dairy, and sugar from your diet. Tips to Avoid Gaining Weight over the Holidays Eating a healthy diet. Lots of fruit and veg, lean meats, and limiting the carbohydrates Get a mineral test to look for imbalances Start your day with no carbs Have a plan for how you’ll deal with parties Eat before you go to a party and ask if you can bring a dish About Veronica Worley Veronica Worley helps men and women age gracefully and beautifully by getting to the root cause of belly fat, energy loss, hormone, and mineral imbalance. She specializes in mineral imbalance, which can be the root of weight gain, energy loss, and hormone imbalance. Once tested, you learn the exact process needed to get the body back in balance and overcome disease and symptoms. She does this by using functional lab testing, food, and lifestyle changes so you can get well and stay well. Like many holistic Health Practitioners, Veronica’s path to helping others feel better, began when she, herself, started having many health issues a few years ago. Doctors couldn’t figure out the causes of symptoms. After discovering that a mineral imbalance was at the root of her fibroids, migraines, brain fog, hormone imbalance, depression, and energy loss, she chose natural methods and worked to overcome her issues. And she lost over 30 pounds in the process! Putting her nutrition background to work (B.S and M.S.) she began a lifelong study of nutrition, holistic wellness, and functional medicine, and since has helped many people get well and lose weight using mineral balancing, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. How to Make it Through the Holidays Like many people who find careers in natural health, Veronica experienced her own health problems that led her on a quest for better health. A huge discovery for her was that her stress levels contributed to some of the hormone imbalances she had. Your body holding onto heavy metals and other minerals also contribute to hormone imbalances. This is one of the reasons Veronica encourages everyone to have their blood tested for mineral imbalances. You should make sure you’re regularly getting tested, as well, to monitor your mineral levels. With the holidays coming up, Veronica shares her best tips for making it through the season without gaining weight. Start with having a plan to get you through any holiday parties, make sure you stick to a healthy eating routine, and try not to eat carbs first thing in the morning! The Problem with Gluten, Dairy, and Sugar Veronica and I also discuss some of the foods that can contribute to mineral and hormone imbalances. Gluten is a big one that we recommend everyone avoid because of how inflammatory to our gut it is. Gluten is one of the leading contributors to digestion and gut problems as we get older. But it’s not just gluten we should limit. Veronica explains why we should avoid dairy products and sugar to help balance our hormones. She gives some excellent advice on how we can substitute gluten, dairy, and sugar to get similar flavors without the inflammatory reactions. Veronica also talks about her 80/20 rule. She suggests that you pay attention to the cues your body gives you and stop eating when you’re 80% full. This way, you don’t overeat and you’re not left feeling sluggish after a meal. Have you already given up gluten, dairy, or sugar? If so, what benefits have you found? If you haven’t removed them from your diet, what’s keeping you from making the change? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “Gluten is a grain that is highly inflammatory to our gut. We eat gluten in our society with every meal, every snack, and we’ve grown up eating gluten. So no wonder you start to have issues with your gut and digestive issues when you’re older.” [21:31] “You have to have a plan for how you’re going to deal with parties, how you’re going to deal with all the temptations. Getting to the root of your issues and making sure you’re tested for imbalances, as parties can be very dangerous for you.” [30:40] “The Chinese have a rule where they eat until they’re 80% full and then stop with 20% more room. When you’re eating a meal, stop at 80% and make physical or verbal signs that you’re done. We all have that sign or time that during the meal that we know we’re done.” [33:16] In This Episode How stress contributes to hormone imbalances [5:00] Why your body might hang on to heavy metals [7:45] How often you should test for mineral imbalances [13:30] Why you should avoid eating gluten [21:15] What gluten substitutes are available and recommended [23:00] Recommended sugar substitutes [25:15] Why you should stop eating food when you’re 80% full [33:45] Why we have sugar cravings [35:15] Links & Resources Use code ESTROGENDETOX to get 10% off DIM or 15% off the Estrogen Detox Bundle To find out if you have a mineral imbalance and if the Hair mineral tissue test is for you, take the Free Quiz Find Veronica Worley Online Follow Veronica Worley on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | Pinterest Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 25: Tips From The Ingredient Guru Mira Dessy Episode 14: Supporting The Mitochondria With Nad And Peptides W/ Dr. Amber Krogsrud Episode 12: How To Build Children’s Health With Food With Dr. Ana Maria Temple

Eat your way to a healthier menopause. I’m joined by Dr. Liz Lipski, my dear girlfriend who shares her insight into gut health, especially for post-menopausal women. We all know by now that the gut is the gateway to our overall health, so when we figure out what foods we can and can’t eat, and what type of diet we thrive on, our health will be unstoppable. Key Takeaways Foods You Should Eat for Estrogen Balance Broccoli Cabbage Brussel Sprouts Kale Kohlrabi Mustard Greens About Dr. Liz Lipski Prof. Liz Lipski, Ph.D., CNS, FACN, IFMCP, BCHN, LDN is Professor and the Director of the Academic Development for the graduate programs in Clinical Nutrition at the Maryland University of Integrative Health, the owner of the Innovative Healing Academy, and the author of Digestive Wellness, now in its 5th edition. Dr. Lipski holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Nutrition, is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition (FACN), and holds two board certifications in clinical nutrition (CNS, and BCHN) and one in functional medicine (IFMCP). She is on faculty for The Institute for Functional Medicine, and the Metabolic Medicine Institute fellowship program. She is on the board for the American Nutrition Association, and advisory boards for the Certified International Health Coaches, and the Autism Hope Alliance. Dr. Lipski has been a co-author in peer-reviewed papers and is the author of several books: Digestive Wellness, Digestive Wellness for Children, and Leaky Gut Syndrome, and a video course The Art of Digestive Wellness. After 30 years of clinical practice, she devotes her time to teaching, writing, and building the field of personalized nutrition. Heal Your Gut for a Healthy Menopause Dr. Liz Lipski devotes her life to finding innovative and sustainable ways to heal your gut microbiome. She shares how quickly you can change your gut health. It might surprise you to learn you can start feeling improvements in around 24 hours! Did you know that the word diet doesn’t have to refer to food restriction for weight loss? We’re changing the approach to the diet to focus on the type of food and eating habits that help YOU thrive. Liz explains why more and more people are turning to restrictive diets, such as gluten-free, vegan, Keto, or carnivore instead of getting to the root of their health problems. Especially for post-menopausal women, we need to focus on eating estrogen-balancing foods. Liz shares some of the best foods for this, including broccoli, cabbage, and kale, so make sure you’re loading your plates with these. You also might have noticed, as you age, that you can no longer tolerate some foods like you used to. Liz explains how this could be a histamine intolerance that’s showing up in your body through bloating or other uncomfortable symptoms. Discover the FODMAP Diet One way that Liz encourages you to explore your food sensitivities and intolerances is to follow the FODMAP diet. This is an elimination diet that can indicate what foods you should avoid. One thing we both know is that when we put our patients on the FODMAP diet, their symptoms improve dramatically in a short period of time. Most people have a diet that’s very high in processed foods. We should all endeavor to be more mindful of what we eat and try to stick to more natural, whole foods. Trust me, when you find the diet that’s right for your body, you will thrive on it! Liz also explains the second part to having a healthy gut: making time for yourself and keeping your stress levels in check. When we prioritize our own mental health and well-being, we’re better able to keep our guts healthy. Putting ourselves first also gives us more energy to assist others. How do you fill your own bucket? What activities do you find gives you more energy? As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. Are you suffering from a food lifestyle hangover? Counting calories and quantifying every little thing that you eat could actually be keeping you from listening to your body. Intuitive Eating is all about a more pleasurable and enjoyable way to eat that will help you start feeling better and enjoy food again. Key Takeaways If You Want To Stop Counting Calories And Start Enjoying Food You Should: Trust the process of Intuitive Eating and find a system to support you Focus less on the calories of foods and more on how certain foods make you feel Be patient with the process and allow yourself grace when navigating which foods are right for you Lead by example to create a future legacy that is not focused on restrictions and rules The Power of Intuitive Eating Caitlin Ball is a health coach who specializes in Intuitive Eating. After moving to Switzerland, Caitlin saw the astronomical difference between how food is approached in Europe compared to the United States. Once she experienced a transformative glimpse of Intuitive Eating, she knew she couldn't go back and had to share this information with the world. Rejecting Diet Culture Once and for All When working to gain more body awareness, trusting the process and finding a support system is key. As women, we have been told for so long that our worth is based on our appearance, and restricting ourselves and placing rules around food is the only way to achieve the goals society has set for us. Instead of giving into these restrictions, Intuitive Eating supports you so that you can feel great in your body, which is really all that is important. Stop Restricting Yourself and Start Feeling Caitlin realized that rather than counting calories, truly acknowledging how you feel after eating a certain food is a much better indicator of what your body needs. If you allow yourself to listen to your body, you will start making decisions based on what you feel you need next, not focusing on the ‘should’ or ‘should not's' of certain foods. By jumping into the mode of curiosity and observation regarding how food makes you feel, you can start to figure out what is right for your body, right here and right now. Are you ready to leave the calories counting behind and walk away from the strictness and mental time it takes to quantify your food? Share which of Caitlin’s Intuitive Eating tips you are going to implement into your routine in the comments section on the episode page. In This Episode How a rejection of diet culture has resulted in a totally different relationship to food in parts of Europe (8:08) Tips for breaking away from the need for control as an avid calorie counter (17:45) Why relating how you feel towards what you are eating is a much better indicator than calorie counting (19:39) How to make peace with food if you are worried about what is going to happen when you allow yourself certain foods (22:42) The role of legacy in the work that you do through children and other young souls (34:01) Quotes “Once I tried out [intuitive eating], and I changed my personal relationship with food and realized I could travel and eat these foods and not eat too much and feel disgusting, and I could enjoy my life and start liking how my body looks without having to cognizantly want to change it, once I realize how much better life was with Intuitive Eating I had to share it!” (16:20) “I knew in my heart that it wasn't working, I knew that there must be another way because I got a glimpse of it from the people around me.” (18:19) “I realized that the calorie-counting wasn't actually doing anything for me, and the much better indicator was eating something, seeing how it made me feel, and then going from there and seeing what food I needed next after that.” (21:30) “You do have to test your patience a little bit, but you will start to notice how these foods make you feel, and you will be able to start listening to your body a lot better and then be able to make changes from there.” (26:53) “There are so many factors to how you feel because of this pandemic and everything that is going on in the world right now that do not have to do with food, so a juice cleanse is not going to solve all of your problems.” (33:08) Links Join the Tune In Membership Here Caitlin Ball Website Quit Dieting For Good Podcast Follow Caitlin on Instagram Join the Listen To Your Body Newsletter Steph Gaudreau Website Check out the full show notes here! Lisa Boucher’s career is anything but predictable. After a few short stints training polo horses and working as a flight attendant, a hairdresser, and a bartender, she decided to become a nurse—a profession she’s spent the past 29 years in, helping hundreds of people overcome alcoholism. Her fifth book, Raising the Bottom, is her response to traditional healthcare’s inability to offer genuine help to most people struggling with addiction. About Guest/Topic The first time Lisa encountered betrayal, it took the form of a mother too deep in the bottle to provide guidance or support. Over the course of her life, she would struggle with betrayals as well as the unhealthy things she did to cope: drinking, drugs, and keeping the painfully familiar company of other addicts. Yet another harsh betrayal—this time from her husband—finally got Lisa to stop sleepwalking through life. In this episode, Lisa talks about how betrayal and addiction beget each other and, more importantly, the principles and methods that helped her break that cycle. In This Episode How betrayal and addiction are linked to each other Rethinking what self-care means Understanding and avoiding patterns that lead to betrayal and addiction Revisiting the twelve principles for overcoming addiction Quotes “We feel good about ourselves by doing the next right thing for us. And that is self-care. I kind of get annoyed with the self-care of soaking in a bathtub—that never worked for me. I need to do something.” 13:03 “That is the worst thing you can do… To stay in your head. Get out of your head. Get out of yourself. They say depression is anger turned inward.”14:34 “Maladjusted emotions are why most people self-medicate… So in order to recover or find other healthier coping skills, you’ve got to dig deep and find some willingness to learn other coping skills.”16:30 “That is what drives behavior: pride, ego, fear. You get rid of those three things and people find a new life.” 21:51 Resources Mentioned Raising the Bottom (Book) Raising the Bottom (Facebook group) Post-Betrayal Syndrome QuizThe PBT Institute Group: Women Hacking Betrayal
Raising your energetic vibration is something that all women should prioritize throughout their lives. Even if this is something you’ve never thought about before, this episode with Jay and Monica Campbell will enlighten you to the benefits of a high vibe life and give you insight into how to achieve one for yourself. Key Takeaways How to raise your vibration: Lower your insulin signal Build muscle Increase your cardiovascular health/heart rate Understand the balance between sound body and sound mind About Jay and Monica Campbell A former champion men’s physique competitor and current 4x international best selling author in the optimized health care space, Jay Campbell is a global thought leader on hormones, biohacking, fat loss, and higher consciousness. Jay is a NO-nonsense, authentic, and fully transparent guy (in a day and age when being hyper-masculine is frowned on), and FEARLESS in his servant mission of leading humanity towards full-spectrum optimization of the body-mind, heart, and soul. Since returning from 12 days in The Sacred Valley of Peru, he's experienced a seismic energetic shift manifesting in a profound new focus of raising the collective vibration of humanity so we reach planetary consciousness aka unconditional love. She manifested her perfect love and relationship with Jay into her life and now helps bring fulfillment into other women’s lives. Choosing the Best Version of Yourself What I loved the most about this conversation with Jay and Monica Campbell is Monica’s complete openness about her first marriage and how she raised her own energetic vibration to find Jay. Monica talks about how when her first marriage ended, she turned to a party lifestyle. She thought this would fulfill her, but ultimately, it didn’t, leaving her feeling like something was missing for her. She decided to honor who she truly was inside by learning more about her inner Monica. She knew what qualities she wanted to embody to be the best version of herself and Monica decided to embody them. Jay adds some thoughts regarding how repressed and blocked emotions can impact your overall health. Because blocked emotions can lead to long-term illness, Jay is very intentional about helping others raise their energetic vibration. Raise Your Vibration to Optimize Your Love Creation! Part of this is choosing who you want to be. Jay and Monica talk about how you can intentionally choose the type of person you want to be. And as long as this person is in line with your high vibration being, you will thrive. So how do you raise your vibration? Jay takes us through four ways to start. Lowering your blood insulin level is very important, as is improving your cardiovascular health. He also talks about why building your muscular strength is so important. Finally, Jay provides some insight into understanding the balance you need to achieve between your strong body and your strong mind. He explains that when you work your spiritual and emotional muscles, you raise your energetic vibration. What steps are you taking to raise your energetic vibration? How can you be more present and honoring to yourself? As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. Understanding what ingredients to look out for on the foods you eat doesn’t have to be overwhelming if you start small. I’m joined by the Ingredients Guru, Mira Dessy, to talk about why food labels are so important to learn, how to avoid hidden ingredients, and how your grocery store is marketing to you. The biggest warning signs on any food label or ingredient list are: Numbers on the label The word “enriched” Artificial flavors, colors, and sweeteners MSG About Mira Dessy Mira Dessy is The Ingredient Guru. As a nutrition educator, author, and real food advocate, her mission is to help people understand that it’s not just what you eat but what’s in it and what you eat that contributes to optimal health. Mira is a member of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals, The Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior, The American Association of Drugless Practitioners, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Holistic Health Association, and a member of the professional advisory board For the Turner Syndrome Society of the United States. How to Read Ingredient Labels They don’t call Mira Dessy the Ingredient Guru for nothing! She opens this episode by telling us exactly how we can start taking back control of the food we eat: it’s all in the ingredient’s list! Mira knows that ingredients lists can be overwhelming, especially when you first start investigating them. She gives us a great cheat sheet of what some of the top ingredients we need to look out for are. From artificial chemical names and numbers to what the real meaning of “enriched” food is. It might even surprise you that our produce has an ingredients list. Those little stickers on our fruit say more than what type of apple it is. What the number starts with and many digits long all indicate whether the fruit is organic, genetically-modified, or chemically treated. It’s likely that you’ve already heard about the Dirty Dozen, but do you actually know what it is? This is a list of the twelve food items most likely to have chemical contamination. It’s pretty important that we, as consumers, do our best to shop organic for the Dirty Dozen. Where to Start Removing Ingredients It’s understandable if you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the ingredients you need to watch out for. That’s why Mira encourages you to start with just one switch and go from there. Choosing which ingredient to avoid first is up to you. But Mira’s top ingredients to avoid are anything “enriched” as these foods have had natural nutrients removed and then artificially replaced. She also encourages you to remove gluten, dairy, and sugar from your diet early in your transition to a real-food diet. Mira’s last tips are about learning how to spot sugar on an ingredients list. Sugar won’t always be labeled as “sugar,” but could still be there. She also wants you to get to know the farmers at your local farmer’s market! More often than not, local farmers don’t use pesticides but aren’t able to get organically certified because of all the regulations and laws around that certification. What’s the first ingredient you’ll be removing from your diet? Did you learn about the produce stickers? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “One of my biggest things that I remind people is that if there’s a number on the label, that means it’s a chemical formula.” [20:19] “Pick one thing that’s important to you. If it’s about buying Dirty Dozen and thinking all the way through that produce, start with that. If it’s about getting rid of numbers, if it’s about getting rid of artificial ingredients, start there and master that. Learn how to shift what you’re already buying at the grocery store, then once you have that under control, move on to something else. Don’t try to do it all at once.” [24:03] “One of the things we have to remember when we’re shifting away from a highly-processed diet and more towards a real food diet is that we’re actually nourishing our body. Some of those processed foods, they may seem cheap, but we’re malnourished, we’re not getting the nutrient-dense items that our bodies need in order to be well. When we make that real-food shift, we’ll find that we’re less hungry and less munchy because we’re not snacking.” [36:36] In This Episode How you can take back control of the food you eat [5:20] Some of the ingredients you really need to look out for [8:00] What you need to look out for on your fruit and vegetable labels [13:30] What the dirty dozen is and why it’s important you shop organic for these foods [15:00] Why you should put enriched foods right back on the shelf [22:00] How sugar might show up on the ingredients list [23:00] Why you should remove sugar, dairy, and gluten from your diet first [35:30] Why you should get to know the farmers at your local market [42:00] Links & Resources Check out the full show notes for this episode here Get 50% off the Your Longevity Blueprint Course & a Free Consultation with Steph Use Code DIM for 10% Off DIM Get Mira’s Free Gift: Is Plastic Making You Fat and Anxious? It’s time to stop the negative talk to both yourself and the people around you. We’re introducing conscious communication from here on out. I’m joined by Mary Shores to talk about how she created this communication model to positively impact her personal and business relationships. Key Takeaways What’s on the Do Not Say List: No Not Can’t Won’t However Unfortunately About Mary Shores Mary Shores is an innovative collection agency owner, communication expert, and best-selling author who transforms people's words to help them fall back in love with their customers. Fifteen years ago, Mary discovered a game-changing formula to connect to your customers and clients. It all started with a do not say list and grew into an entire strategy that will fix your relationships. Change Your Thoughts: Change Your Life Mary shares with us the story of her childhood and what led her to start her own business as a debt collector. It’s such an emotional tale but is one that has such a positive outcome. Mary tells us the exact moment she decided to change her mindset… and change her life. When she decided to take a more positive outlook with her communications, Mary sent out that conscious request to the universe that she would embody that joy, however, and wherever she could. Part of this was allowing herself to examine her negative thoughts when they arose. By learning where her negative thoughts and emotions stemmed from, she figured out how to work with and through past trauma. Over the past 15 years of inner work, Mary developed an alternative model for Positive Psychology. The Power of Thought Quality lets you look at what impact your thoughts have and where the power of your individual words lies. This led Mary to create the Cleanse or Clog formula. This method acts as a way to train your mind and thoughts to recognize when something is good for you - or something that’s sitting more negatively in your life. Have Some Compassion for Yourself Mary talks about the power that exists when you label your emotions. For so many of us, figuring out what we’re actually feeling seems like a nearly impossible task. But, as Mary details, when you can get there, there is immense healing. Something Mary encourages us all to learn how to do more often is to have compassion for ourselves. There is so much power in the negative words we speak to ourselves and, on top of this, we’re all under immense stress and pressure. Mary recommends writing down everything you feel that’s going wrong in your life right now. When you look at that list - how does it make you feel? I want you to know that you’re justified if you’re feeling overwhelmed and that you owe yourself some compassion. How would you talk to your six-year-old self? Will you be implementing the Do Not Say list in your life? As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. Now, here’s the difference between the power of thought quality and positive thinking: When you find the thing that you can do, no matter how small that is, I want you to celebrate it like it is a huge moment in life.” [18:19] “If you say ‘no’ to another person or you say something negative to another person and it triggers them, well it’s doing the same thing when you’re talking to yourself that way.” [30:54] “When you can reestablish that connection to your feelings, your body’s ability to receive pleasure will begin to restore itself.” [41:19] “Just start where you are. Anxiety levels are rising globally with everything that’s going on this year. I wanted to give you this bonus episode full of my top tips to help you reduce your anxiety, not just in these moments, but all year round. Ways you can treat your anxiety Conventional medicine Create a calming, electronic free sleeping environment Practice meditation Take supplements About Dr. Stephanie Gray Stephanie Gray, DNP, MS, ARNP, ANP-C, GNP-C, ABAAHP, FAARFM, is a functional medicine provider who helps men and women build sustainable and optimal health and longevity so that they can focus on what matters most to them! She is the Amazon best-selling author of her book Your Longevity Blueprint, host of the Your Longevity Blueprint podcast, and co-founder of Your Longevity Blueprint Nutraceuticals with her husband, Eric. They enjoy spending time outside with their son William. They own the Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic in Hiawatha, Iowa. Conventional Medicine and Anxiety Anxiety is on the rise amongst my patients. With everything this year has thrown us, it’s unsurprising. But that doesn’t mean you can’t support your body through these anxious periods in a few different ways. First of all, what exactly is anxiety? I walk you through the specific ways it manifests in your body and explain how many of these signs you need to exhibit in order to receive that diagnosis. From a conventional, western medicine point of view, there are a few steps you can take. Your doctor might prescribe certain medications, particularly SSRIs and Benzodiazepine, to help you handle the symptoms of anxiety. You might receive a subscription for them separately, or, in some cases, jointly. Your medical doctor should also recommend talking therapy to help you work through the reasons you’re feeling anxious. This might be in combination with one of the medications mentioned. Treating Anxiety with Natural Care There are also natural methods to help calm your anxiety symptoms. Gentle exercise, meditation, and creating a calming, electronic-free bedroom are all at the top of my list. I’d also recommend taking certain supplements and a daily multivitamin. I’ve linked to the ones I mentioned in this episode and you can get a discount in my shop using the code ‘estrogen detox.’ Finally, I wholeheartedly encourage you to get all your hormones checked by your doctor. They can do this with a blood test that will show you exactly where you could use extra nutritional support. Because, just as with everything in our bodies, your overall mental health begins in your gut. Are you feeling the pressure and anxiety from the last year? You’re not alone! It’s important to acknowledge how you’re feeling and take the steps you need to help yourself. Let me know in the comments on the episode page what steps you’re taking for yourself. Quotes “You have to sleep to improve anxiety. Sleep is when your body repairs and heals.” [7:39] “I know what any of you may be thinking: ‘can I take supplements with medications?’ The short answer is yes because they usually help the medications work better. But please consult with your personal medical provider, especially if you’re on lots of medications.” [11:52] “To improve your overall mental health, you must address gut health.” [12:51] In This Episode How anxiety presents in your life and body [1:30] What the types of conventional medication for anxiety are [2:45] Some natural ways you can help reduce your levels of anxiety [7:15] What supplements you should take for anxiety [8:00] Why you should consider getting your hormones tested [13:00] Links & Resources Check out the full show notes for this episode here Learn More About Your Longevity Blueprint: The Course Buy the Electric Kill Switch I mentioned in this episode Use code estrogendetox for a discount on: DIM OMEGA 3S 120 COUNT L-THEANINE – 60 CT 5HTP ADRENAL CALM HERBAL ADRENAL COMPLEX MAGNESIUM CHELATE 120 COUNT Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 14: Supporting The Mitochondria with NAD and Peptides w/ Dr. Amber Krogsrud Episode 15: Community and Curiosity for Longevity with Dr. Sandr Scheinbaum Episode 10: 5 Pillars Of A Toxin-Free Lifestyle with Aimee Carlson

For those of us who start a studio, we think it will lead to a new level of freedom. Before too long, we realize that it’s a business and that creativity is just one part of it. Today’s guest helps creative business owners improve the business side of what they do so that they can focus on the parts that they love. About Joel Pilger Joel Pilger of RevThink is a consultant who helps creative studios become industry leaders. He focuses on helping owners in specific areas – genius, expertise, positioning, marketing, and sales – so their firms can produce their greatest work in the world. Finding your freedom, genius, and niche We all want the freedom to produce great work. Having your own motion design studio often gives you this freedom. But it’s not that simple. Joel explains how you can get the clients you’re after by curating a community, showcasing your expertise, and crafting your unique message. These aren’t simple and easy things. Yet, with the right approach and guidance it is completely achievable. Work is very personal to creatives. Joel urges creatives who are searching for a niche to serve to look within their own genius to find it. Identifying your genius will lead you to your niche. If you can focus on what you love to do, you can serve the best clients for you and find joy and inspiration in your work. Your community is the key to your success In the end, much of a studio’s success is derived from its community. Reaching out within your network is the best place to find the employees you want and the best clients. Joel explains how this community doesn’t happen by accident. It takes regular and intentional curation and engagement. Joel describes how identifying people’s problems and offering yourself as a solution is an effective way to become an integral part of this community. Quotes “The foundation is focusing on your genius. You have to identify your genius and focus on it. That informs your positioning, you build your community, you work with those best clients, and great work shows up.” [10:43] “Yes, I’m a big fan of working and focusing on a niche. However, niching down is a byproduct or a symptom of focusing on your genius.” [11:32] “That’s ultimately the shift that we’re all going through if you’re in this business - from being an order-taker and providing services to becoming an expert and providing value, results, and outcomes.” [34:35] In This Episode How consultants help studios improve various parts of their business [1:48] The different challenges of freelancing and owning a studio [4:40] How your niche derives from your genius [11:10] Growing a studio without giving up your creative pursuits [16:45] How curating a community can lead to new work [27:20] The shift that needs to happen to become a leader in your field [35:00] The one thing every motion designer needs to do to survive tough times [40:38] Key Takeaways Creativity is just one ingredient in owning a business. In the workplace, personal hopes and dreams might not align with outside expectations. Many of us erect a wall between our work life and our personal life. As a result, we miss out on the possibility to form deeper interpersonal connections. Today’s guest has made it his mission to help bridge these gaps with people before they’ve even entered the workforce. In This Episode How the psychological masks that we all wear hold us back [2:18] Creating a dynamic in companies and schools that align with their people’s hopes, dreams, and goals [6:10] Why companies need to create a culture that encourages vulnerability [8:55] What happens when an organization creates a culture of psychological safety [13:03] Creating an atmosphere of trust and openness [22:40] Tips and techniques for creating a better culture [29:06] Creating environments of safety while accounting for racial disparities [36:43] Recognizing the barriers that hold you back [47:30] About Ashanti Branch Ashanti Branch works to change how young men of color interact with their education and how their schools interact with them. Raised in Oakland by his single mother on welfare, Ashanti left the inner-city to study civil engineering at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. As a high school math teacher, he started the Ever Forward Club to provide support for African American and Latino males who were not achieving their potential. The Dangers of Masks Ashanti has seen the dangers of wearing (metaphorical) masks in school and the workplace. When people put up these barriers it hides who they really are. As a result, it becomes harder to achieve the goals we are really after. That’s where company culture comes in. By encouraging their people to remove their psychological masks, work can become a place of life affirming joy and creativity. Overcoming Fear and Welcoming Vulnerability It’s important to recognize that the whole notion of wearing psychological masks derives from an illusion of safety. When people are able to overcome fear, they can be vulnerable in front of others. We, along with Ashanti, have found that this vulnerability leads to honesty. When people are honest and able to take risks because of it, stronger relationships develop. Food for Thought Is there a place or time where you’re comfortable removing your psychological masks? And as Ashanti asks, how have you been complicit in the reality you don’t want to see? Quotes “If at home no one sees how brilliant you are, at school your grades don’t show how brilliant you are, but you got some talents inside of you, then you could be walking through the world believing that you don’t matter.” [5:26] “Oftentimes we miss out on deep connections because people are either afraid - there’s no psychological safety to talk about it - or they feel like no one would even care.” [8:21] “When people feel like they’re cared about - you care about them more than just as a cog in the organization, but as a person - I think they appreciate it.” [33:57] Key Takeaways 1. It takes effort and time to build a culture of trust. Yet, when an organization intentionally presents vulnerability as a strength, people will be their true and authentic selves. This naturally leads to a culture in which people feel safe and cared for. 2. A lack of honesty is usually rooted in fear. This not only hurts productivity, but it also prevents necessary relationships from forming. That’s why it’s crucial that there should never be negative consequences for telling the truth. Binge eating happens to all of us, whether due to addiction or emotional trauma. I’m joined by Dr. Glenn Livingston to talk about how he cured himself of binge eating by following four simple rules. About Dr. Glenn Livingston Glenn Livingston, Ph.D. is a veteran psychologist and was the long-time CEO of a multi-million dollar consulting firm that has serviced several Fortune 500 clients in the food industry. You may have seen his (or his company's) previous work, theories, and research in major periodicals like The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Sun-Times, The Indiana Star-Ledger, The NY Daily News, American Demographics, or many other major media outlets. You may also have heard him on ABC, WGN, and/or CBS radio, or UPN TV. Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating via work with his own patients AND a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants. Most important, however, was his own personal journey out of obesity and food prison to a normal, healthy weight and a much more lighthearted relationship with food. Glenn is a regular blogger on Psychology Today. Designed to be Addictive As much as there is to say about trauma, stress, and emotional responses to blame binge eating on, Dr. Glenn Livingston opens this episode with an alternative reason: marketing and food production. Some foods are just designed and created to hit all our bliss points: salty, greasy, sweet, comforting, and, often, with something else added to increase our addiction. Glenn reveals that a former executive of a big brand confectionary company told him they took all the vitamins out of their product and spent that money on packaging. So if you’re ever feeling like you can’t control your binges, let’s just say you’re not alone. Big business wants you to binge. There are some people who find so much solace and comfort in binge eating. Along with these marketing ploys, binge eating can absolutely do its part to fill a void in your body you don’t know how otherwise to fill. Glenn also talks about some early research into how what you binge on might be an indication of where you have stress in your life. Adopting Healthy Habits to Curb Binge Eating But that doesn’t mean you can’t learn to get your binges under control. Glenn introduces us to his four rules of binge eating. He urges his clients to use these rules to start mastering their binge eating. Glenn also encourages you to stop beating yourself up after binge eating. Getting angry and yelling at yourself is so counterproductive; you need to change your thought pattern. Instead, Glenn says you should start a success collection. This builds up your own self-identity as a success. With some incredibly helpful words, Glenn reminds you that successful people have more failures behind them than anything else. It’s like Paolo Coehlo says, ‘fall seven times, get up eight.’ It’s not about how much you fail or fall back into a binge, it’s about how many times you pick yourself back up and try again. Finally, Glenn wants you to stop using the excuse of a binge to start tomorrow. You don’t get a scratch on your car and then decide to crash it, right? Use the present moment, even if that’s directly after a binge, to make your next healthy move. Do you find you binge eat? You’re not alone. I’d love to know what your favorite food to binge is. Mine’s french fries! As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. If you have questions, email team@drannacabeca.com. In This Episode How food hits our bliss points [9:00] How food marketing increases your desire to purchase them [10:00] Why some people use food as a comforting activity [17:00] How what we binge eat on might indicate where we’re feeling stressed [24:00] How you can master control of your binge eating urges [29:30] Why you should collect evidence of successes to build your success identity [37:30] Why you need to let go of any pain or anxiety that follows a binge in order to stop binging in the future [39:11] What happens when you have failure behind you [41:00] How you can use the present moment to be healthy [45:45] Quotes “Just pick one rule. What is the smallest thing that you could and would do, that wouldn’t feel like too much of a burden but would turn the ship around.” [32:06] “The mantra to think of post-binge is to commit with perfect but forgive yourself with dignity.” [39:20] “The name of the game is staying in the game until you win the game.” [42:52] “It’s difficult to keep binging if you refuse to keep yelling at yourself.” [44:10] Resources Mentioned Buy Mighty Maca Plus: Green Superfood Drink Online Buy Julva All Natural Anti-Aging Cream for Feminine Parts Online Get Your FREE Copy of Never Binge Again Read the Never Binge Again Blog Find Dr. Glenn Livingston Online Follow Dr. Glenn Livingston on Facebook | Twitter | LinkedIn Join the KetoGreen Community on Facebook Buy Keto-Green 16 Check out the full episode page Find Dr. Anna Online Follow Dr. Anna on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter Related Episodes: 154: How to Unlearn What You Were Taught About Suffering w/ Sarah Anne Stewart 149: How to Create an Abundant, Aligned, and Fulfilled Life w/ Natalie Matushenko 139: The Neuroscience of Health, Hormones, and Happiness w/ Dr. Sarah McKay

[13:05] "When I left the third ceremony I knew it was my path to be a healer and that I was going to dedicate the rest of my life to this tradition." [29:10] "It was easy for me to heal that trauma. I know that might sound crazy but inside the ceremony, it wasn't such a crazy, difficult ordeal for me." [34:42] "You can't separate ayahuasca from the culture of its use, you can't separate the ceremony from the medicine, and there's so much that comes from the ceremony." [49:33] "If you're in the world of addiction it's going to be almost impossible to stay in that environment and not be an addict." Do you ever feel that you have too much client work to focus on personal projects? It can be tough making the time for something that doesn’t bring you any direct income. However, these personal projects are an important part of your craft. They’ll help you sharpen your skills while imparting a sense of satisfaction that other work doesn’t. About Qais Sarhan Qais Sarhan is a 2D motion designer based in Reading. He creates simple, succinct animations in order to promote and explain complex marketing messages. When not creating for studios and agencies, Qais creates silly gifs about cats and food. The Rewards and Challenges of Remote Work As someone who works on all aspects of a project, Qais is able to work remotely. In this capacity, he seldom needs to come in-house and has the freedom to live outside of the major hubs. Even though you might not be physically in the room with clients, Qais urges you to stay in frequent communication. Regular emails, calls, and messages will put them at ease and let them know that their project is in good hands. Leveling Up with Personal Projects When not working for clients, Qais is constantly refining his own skills. Personal projects are a great avenue for this. It will also help you avoid being too harsh on yourself so you can focus on the joy in what you do. You need to enjoy the process. You need to develop your skills.” [12:31] “You are a business and you’re promoting yourself as a business. You just need to give people what they want.” [30:03] “Don’t obsess with being the best because that’s exhausting.” [33:12] In This Episode How remote work creates geographic freedom as a motion designer [2:09] Tips for communicating with clients remotely [4:45] Harnessing personal projects to improve your skills [6:48] Avoiding the pressure of perfectionism [15:30] Using Linkedin and other social media to share your work [20:20] How treating yourself as a business can still highlight your personal identity [30:28] Key Takeaways Being able to work remotely opens many doors. This year has not gone as expected. That’s true for my business as much as anything else. The mechanisms that used to bring clients and projects my way don’t work like they used to. However, virtual summits and meetups have exploded. Today, I’m sharing how I’ve been harnessing the potential of these virtual events to grow my business. Key Takeaways In times of COVID, we need to shift how we build networks. Online summits, virtual meetups, and webinars are a great way to fill the gaps left by in-person events. Hosting one of these summits will even show you to be an authority in your field. Lessons of Running a Virtual Summit Over the last few months, I’ve been putting together a virtual summit for digital marketers. I’ve learned a lot in the process. Not only do I think this event will provide great value for those who attend, but it will also help grow and maintain a network of people who may become clients someday. Growing Your Network I’ve found that hosting these events I’ve positioned myself as an authority in my niche. As a result, more people in my expanding network are going to think of me when they need video or something else that I offer. It will naturally build connections that wouldn’t otherwise exist. Finding and Serving Your Niche You can’t just create an event for everyone though. You need to get very focussed on a specific niche. The narrower, the better. If you’re not sure, reach out to your network and ask what topics they most resonate with at the moment. With that information, you’ll have a great start to building a successful virtual event. Would you ever consider creating a webinar or an online summit? What would it be about? Leave a comment on the episode page! In This Episode: How virtual summits are filling the gap left by in-person events [3:25] Growing your network with online events [9:27] How shifting to a bigger online presence changes how we think about business [16:37] Why focusing on a specific niche is the best way to succeed with a webinar or summit [19:14] Why few things are more important than your email list [25:00] Quotes “We’re getting exposure to a ton of people who we wouldn’t normally be…. And as the hosts, we are the ones who look like we’re friends with all of the presenters.” [13:16] “When you take leadership, when you take action, when you decide to do this, people will take notice because not everybody is getting in the ring.” [15:25] “As you do webinars and summits, your email list will grow. It is so important to grow your email list.” [25:01] Links: Share your story to get on the 200th episode! A staggering 80% of women experience some form of pelvic pain at some point in their lives. Dr. Jessica Drummond joins me today to talk about what causes endometriosis, what the treatment options are, and how you can start to naturally heal your symptoms. Diet changes you can start right away to help reduce symptoms of endometriosis: Eat a plant dominant diet Increase your consumption of turmeric and fish oils Remove dairy from your diet About Dr. Jessica Drummond Dr. Jessica Drummond is the CEO of The Integrative Women’s Health Institute and author of Outsmart Endometriosis. She holds licenses in physical therapy and clinical nutrition and is a board-certified health coach. She has 20 years of experience working with women with chronic pelvic pain, facilitates educational programs for women’s health professionals in more than 60 countries globally, and leads virtual wellness programs for people with endometriosis. Dr. Drummond lives and works with her husband and daughters between Houston, Texas, and Fairfield, Connecticut. Diagnosing and Early Treatment of Endometriosis Dr. Jessica Drummond starts off by explaining exactly what endometriosis is. Essentially, it’s a long-term health condition that affects people with vaginas that causes scarring on the uterus. But, surprisingly, this scar tissue is not restricted to the uterus! Symptoms normally present in your early teen years, usually around the time or shortly after your first period. Jessica explains the different types of diagnosis options available for figuring out if you have endometriosis. Then she talks about the early treatment options available to start getting to help reduce your symptoms. Surgery is often an early option for people with endometriosis. But it’s important you find a skilled surgeon. Jessica shares what to look for in a surgeon and how to find a reliable one. Jessica also talks about the problems conventional to endometrioses, like birth control, are and what other options are available to you. Naturally Treating Endometriosis The good news is that you can start treating your endometriosis in more natural ways. Jessica says the first thing you should always try to do is reduce your stress levels. Elevated amounts of cortisol, the stress hormone, can negatively impact your overall hormonal health. She also talks about how you can alter your diet. An anti-inflammatory diet will absolutely help you improve your endometriosis symptoms. Jessica explains what this type of diet looks like. The biggest factor is actually removing dairy from your diet. The hormones present in milk products have an impact on your estrogen levels which can contribute to overall estrogen dominance. Jessica urges you to reduce your meat intake and eat a mostly plant-based diet. She says you don’t need to go completely plant-based, as to effectively treat endometriosis, you need a lot of protein, but your meals should be very plant-dominant. Jessica explains what supplements you can take for endometriosis. DIM is a great one as well as turmeric and fish oils. Finally, she talks about how your body holds onto early life trauma and why you need to address it before you can successfully cure endometriosis. Do you have unexplained severe pelvic pain? What dietary changes have you already tried to cure your endometriosis symptoms? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “Between period pain, vaginal pain, sexual pain, bladder pain, postpartum sexual pain - if we add all of those things up, it’s very common to at some point in your childbearing years to have some sort of pelvic pain. Somewhere around 80% and up.” [8:08] “We have a lot of tools, between nervous system toning and strengthening, circadian rhythm alignment to help with anxiety and fatigue, movement practices, and then nutrition and targeted supplementation really puts the body in a healthier foundation so that whether or not someone chooses to have surgery, they come out in better shape and prepared to live their life, get pregnant, and fertility improves.” [27:36] “Because we need so much protein to heal endometriosis, I find that eating some meat works better than going completely plant-based. But you still want to be plant-dominant.” [36:30] “Trauma informs psychotherapy, trauma informs physical therapy, being gentle with your own stress responses, and knowing that you’ll need more recovery. You want to unwind that trauma as much as you can but you also have to be gentle with yourself.” [45:38] In This Episode How common endometriosis and pelvic pain is for people with vaginas [8:00] What endometriosis is, how it presents, and when you might start experiencing symptoms [9:30] Some conventional tests to diagnose endometriosis and early treatment options [15:20] What the challenges to finding a skilled endometriosis surgeon are [19:40] What the problem with many conventional endometriosis treatment options are [22:00] Why stress reduction is one of the most important aspects of your health you can manage to help endometriosis symptoms [31:35] What an anti-inflammatory diet looks like for endometriosis [34:45] How dairy products can contribute to estrogen dominance in your body [37:30] What supplements you can use to help control your endometriosis symptoms [40:00] Why you need to address underlying and generational trauma [45:00] Links & Resources Check out the full show notes for this episode here Take the Your Longevity Blueprint Course Buy DIM Today Get Your Free Copy Copy of Outsmart Endometriosis Learn more about Endo What? As a small business owner, you actually have a lot of flexibility. You can pivot what you do and make offers that big companies can’t. Especially during tough times like these, you can find opportunities that may not have existed before. As today’s guest is going to tell you, there’s a gift that lies in scarcity. Key Takeaways It’s important to keep priorities in mind when running a small business. Especially when times are tough, it’s a good idea to ask yourself what your goals are. By looking at what gives you the best return on investment, you can prioritize the most important parts of your business. Even if a client doesn’t want to move forward on a project quite yet, there is probably still something that you can do for them. Look back at past projects and share your ideas with them. Maintaining helpful lines of communication now will pay off later when the situation improves. No matter how amazing your work is, if you don’t market it, you won’t sell it. Marketing, when done with integrity, is not a sleazy thing. You have something to offer that other people need. When you reach out there, you will find that there is more abundance than you may have thought. About Prof Kelly Goldsmith Professor Kelly Goldsmith is an award-winning, Yale-educated behavioral scientist who also appeared on Survivor Africa. She examines consumers’ responses to uncertainty and scarcity, uncovering, and explaining seemingly paradoxical effects. Looking to Scarcity for Good Ideas It’s common to question what you’re doing in business during tough times. Kelly recognizes that it is actually during times like these that some of the best ideas are born. Maybe you’ve been sitting on a particularly innovative idea but haven’t acted on it yet. It’s also a time to reassess how you’re marketing your services. Getting Cozy with Marketing Even if you have something great to offer, you need to market it appropriately. Marketing to everyone will only lead to disappointment. Even though it may feel like you’re excluding potential customers, you need to find your niche. This will differentiate yourself from the competition and also lead to more referrals at the same time. Do you have a business idea that you haven't tried yet? Tell me what’s holding you back in the comments on the episode page! Creative people are the best at coming up with new ways to make money.” [11:04] “Fundamentally, any goal is associated with a sense of scarcity. Anything you want to get, be, or do means you have to recognize what you don’t have.” [21:52] “The benefit of being in a small business is that you can be agile and you can adapt. If you feel like you can’t, then you have a misperception about what’s great about your industry.” [31:28] Links: Tell me about your transformation for a chance to get featured in Episode 200! Juliet developed Mental Remapping™ and Neural Activations to enhance your shifts during & after your Hypnotherapy/NLP/T.I.M.E. sessions. Stress Is the World Leader of Chronic Health Problems We have the space to stop, pause, and reevaluate our lives. Of course, it’s not necessarily the way any of us envisioned getting the space for this clarity, but the pandemic has brought a sense of international calm. As a society that’s faced with so much burnout, exhaustion, and hustle mentality, getting this space has truly been lifesaving for many. Stress is by far the biggest chronic health condition impacting humanity, and I really do hope that we start making changes. Us women are the worst offenders for pushing ourselves too far and too hard. We’re naturally high performers, whether by nature or nurture, but this is detrimental to our health. And on top of this, we’re facing imposter syndrome almost chronically. Is it any wonder we’re the most stressed-out population? How to Build Your Emotional Resilience Juliet breaks down how she uses hypnosis to give you the tools you need to start breaking free of these repetitive and destructive cycles. She teaches you what emotional resilience is and how you can start building your own, bit by bit, every day. By stopping that mental struggle, you’ll finally feel some relief and give yourself space to build new pathways. You’ll see reality for what it is and potentially could be. Juliet also talks about the importance of loving yourself. Truly, madly, deeply loving yourself. We all know there’s too much hatred in this world; when you love yourself deeply, you really do stop caring as much what other people are doing. Finally, Juliet explains what a regular hypnotherapy practice looks like. From the actual hypnotherapy sessions to what you should do at home to bolster your resilience, she sets you up with the info you need to succeed. What is something you love about yourself? Actually, tell me three things you love about yourself! Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes: “So I keep telling people to heal your way to success. It’s not that you get successful then you have time to heal, healing can be in the process and actually accelerate your success.” [22:02] “When you stop that mental struggle, that is when you’re able to get some relief and are able to build new pathways and see reality for what it is.” [29:49] “A lot of times, we try to escape our thoughts and escape ourselves. You need to go back to yourself, return to yourself, and have your own back. You’ll never feel alone because you have you.” [40:20] “It would shift the world energetically if everyone just returned to themselves and started to appreciate themselves for who they were. When you appreciate yourself for who you are, then you don’t feel threatened by others being different from you.” [41:42] In This Episode How the pandemic has forced us all to stop and pause, giving us space to review our lives [11:00] Why we’re feeling so much burnout as a society [12:40] Some of the reasons why women might be a high performer [14:10] Why so many women feel imposter syndrome and how this connects to long-term health conditions [17:15] What the basis of emotional resilience is [32:00] How often you need to get hypnotherapy performed so you start to feel better and build new pathways [34:15] What the daily work to help heal your brain looks like [36:30] What power there is in truly feeling in love with yourself [41:00] Resources Mentioned: Learn about Juliet’s Group Hypnosis-to-Heal Program Find Juliet Obodo Online Follow Juliet Obodo on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative
