What Happens When the Story You're Reporting Is the Story You're Not Allowed to Tell?  Gabriel Harrison was 30, working as a journalist in Tunisia, and had been handed the story that would end his career. It described a specific mechanism operating across North Africa in the years after Gaddafi's fall, one whose implications did not align with the version of that region most Western audiences had been given. His editor said the story was "not relevant to Libya."  He understood immediately what that meant. Three months later he quit.  Two years of a dark night of the soul followed. Then he moved to South America to join what he was told was an autonomous community, which turned out to be a sophisticated scam whose leaders are now being searched for by Interpol. Gabriel is known online as Orpheus. He crossed 65,000 Instagram followers in four weeks by saying, publicly, the things he had spent years being told he could not. He is the founder of Aquari, a bioresonance jewelry brand backed by peer-reviewed cell research.  He is a student of Rupert Sheldrake's work on morphic resonance and formative causation. Biography: Praveen Tipirneni, MD, MBA is Chief Executive Officer of Morphic Therapeutic Inc. Previously, he was Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Global Strategy at Cubist Pharmaceuticals, a position in which he served from 2002 until the company's acquisition by Merck in 2015. In his time at Cubist, he was a member of the clinical group working on the Cubicin NDA (skin and skin structure infections) and sNDA (Staph. Bacteremia and Endocarditis) teams. He was head of business development since January 2006. Prior to joining Cubist, Dr. Tipirneni worked at Sun Microsystems in corporate strategy, Covad Communications in Corporate Strategy, and Deltagen in business development. He also served time as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Dr. Tipirneni received a bachelor's degree from MIT in mechanical engineering and an M. D. from McGill University. After completing his post-graduate residency in Internal Medicine at University of Illinois, Chicago, he received his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business in healthcare finance.

Please note that Terence McKenna spools forth a kind of complicated, highly erudite babble of text that is designed to be imbibed or absorbed in an almost osmotic fashion. His words don't necessarily need to be decoded; they can simply be enjoyed, for their texture, for their sound, and absolutely for their message, though the message is often so abstract or so dense or so inventive so as to render it difficult to comprehend. Here are his words, from a random Terence talk delivered at Esalen in 1992: “Our task is not to understand. It is to appreciate.” Yes indeed. Rupert Sheldrake is a scientist and author, sometimes accused of being a new age author, who's achieved some level of notoriety, primarily due to his widely debated concept of “morphic resonance.” Morphic resonance essentially suggests that there is a kind of collective memory in nature. According to Sheldrake, similar forms , or morphic units, resonate with and influence each other through time and space. For example, he suggests that if rats learn a new trick in one part of the world, rats elsewhere will learn it more quickly, as the morphic field of rats has been "tuned" to this new behavior. In Sheldrake's words, natural systems ... “inherit a collective memory from all previous things of their kind." This collective memory is responsible for "telepathy-type interconnections between organisms.” Critics have cited a lack of evidence for the concept of morphic resonance, and noted the ways that it contrasts with established thought in genetics, embryology, neuroscience, and biochemistry. Yet this is precisely the sort of reasoning that a man like Terence McKenna, who was highly scientific and precise in his thinking yet wildly out of the box and creative when it came to systems of thinking, would be fascinated by. Ralph Abraham is a mathematician and pioneer in the study of chaos theory. What is chaos theory? Simply put, chaos theory explores how any action, no matter how small, can lead to complex and unpredictable behavior in physical systems. Abraham founded the Visual Math Institute in Santa Cruz and continues to teach there now. His work like McKenna's and Sheldrake's, examines consciousness, the nature of reality, and the intersection of science and spirituality. He is the author of a great number of books that tackle a variety of subjects, including the tome Foundations of Mechanics, the Evolutionary Mind , written with McKenna and Sheldrake, as well as “Hip Santa Cruz: First-Person Accounts of the Hip Culture of Santa Cruz, California in the 1960s.” Like the other two persons showcased in this delightful episode of Voices of Esalen, drawn from the prodigious Esalen archives, he is undoubtedly a really smart person. The term morphic field was first coined by British scientist Doctor Rupert Sheldrake. He has published a number of scientific papers on the subject. His work is fascinating, if somewhat dry and not always easy to read. The great thing about morphic fields though, is that you don't need to have a detailed understanding of them in order to use them. That said, the basics are easy to grasp. A field is a kind of energy that can affect matter (or ‘stuff' to use the less scientific term). We're all familiar with at least one kind of field—a magnetic field. Even though we can't see it, we know a magnetic field can affect certain stuff—metal. The dial on a compass moves because it is affected by the earth's magnetic field. And those little fridge magnets work because a magnetic field holds them tightly to the metal door of your refrigerator. A morphic field also affects stuff. It's less fussy than a magnetic field though, because the stuff it affects is elementary particles. These are the smallest particles known to science. If you took anything in the universe, chopped it in half, and kept chopping the halves in half, you would eventually end up with a single molecule. If you kept going and chopped that up too, you would have some atoms. And if you chopped those up, you would be left with elementary (subatomic) particles like electrons and quarks. These particles are what are affected by morphic fields. And because everything in the universe is built out of them, that means morphic fields affect everything. They exist everywhere. They are inside you right now. And inside me. And inside this book. They are in the air around us. They are in space. They are in other stars and other planets. Morphic fields are themselves, part of the building blocks of the universe. 

What is the premise of the Morphic Resonance Theory? The lower laws of nature are more like habits. Meaning, each species has a type of collective memory, the collective unconscious so to speak, not just a memory of behavior like instinct, but also a form. For example, when a cabbage grows, it's tapping into a collective cabbage memory, a memory of form. This understanding in general isn't a new concept. However, what Dr. Sheldrake's theory also suggests is there's a resonance between similar self-organizing systems across space and time.  Morphic resonance is a holistic theory. It works through morphic fields rather than in granulated atomistic bits—in other words, in-form-motion rather than simply information, which extends from a memory source that exists in a morphic field, a form of energy, outside the brain. “Memory is a phenomenon in time, not in space, and I think that the whole of the past is potentially present everywhere and that we access it through resonance on the basis of similarity.” According to French philosopher Henri Bergson, memories are not stored in brains and involve a direct transfer across time.  Morphogenetic fields reverberate and exchange information within a universal life force. Do you ever feel someone staring at you only to turn around to find there is? This week's episode I discuss an interesting concept of whether we come from the stars. Something I have been researching since season 3 when I promised to talk about it at a later date.  It's a minefield of information, which I have been ploughing through for months, but here is my take on it so far.  In this episode I look at the genetic mutations or even modifications that occurred in homo sapiens around 200,000 years ago, that turned primates into us - focusing in on chromosome 7 and 2 - and consider the possibility of who or what may have done this, considering the ancient texts, the indigenous cultures and even the bible.  Although most of us know that we became human due to a series of genetic mutations, the likelihood of this being 'natural selection' is so small, it's considered impossible by many scientists. Thousands of mutations occurred over a very small timeframe, practically overnight in terms of evolution, and many scientists believe something else happened, especially since we have still not found the missing links - or dozens of missing links, to account for all the changes involved.  We now have evidence of this 'something else' focusing in on the changes in chromosomes 2 and 7, leading to a 76% growth in brain size, the acquisition of compassion and empathy, and the ability to finally develop speech, after having 100 million years without. Chromosome 2 in particular shows signs of having been genetically modified, so who was around 200,000 years ago that could have done this? Maybe an advanced civilisation which we are finding increasingly more evidence of too? We also look at the possibility of a more metaphysical upgrade via the Morphic field and consciousness and even touch on the theory of Pansmermia, which involves DNA coming to our planet from other star systems via comets, astroids or meteors.
