*Trigger warning – Suicide is very briefly discussed in this episode, along with a story of infidelity.*Gosh, what a deep, authentic and vulnerable episode this was with my guest Manda Carpenter. Manda is the author of Soul Care To Save Your Life, which was released in August of this year. Manda opens up about her infidelity and how it almost stole her marriage. Not only that, her infidelity almost caused Manda to take her own life. Just as she does in her book, Manda gets very personal about what led to her affair and how she immediately felt ashamed. Manda had believed her whole life that infidelity was an unforgivable sin, which made it very difficult for her to tell her husband. Then one day, the Lord brought a mentor into her life who would help Manda to confess to her husband and then encouraged Manda to seek counseling. I know some of you may be thinking you can't relate to the topics discussed in this episode, but don't skip this one. Our stories may be different, but I think we can all relate to the vulnerability, shame, and humility Manda expresses through our conversation. Or maybe your life, or the life of someone close to you, has been impacted by unfaithfulness. Should you choose to listen, I hope you walk away feeling seen and encouraged, not alone. Connect with JamieFacebook //  Instagram // YouTubeGET ALL THE LINKS FROM THE SHOW HERE

Have you ever grappled with lustful thoughts or actions? Do you struggle with intimacy and romantic connections? Are you wondering if there is redemption for you? Manda Carpenter and Matt Droguett have both walked through these exact things. While their experiences are different, they both found wholeness through faith (and therapy). In this conversation, we talk about: • Male and female perspectives of struggling with lust and porn • The impact lust has on romantic relationships and expectations • Healing found through honest conversations and asking for help • Struggles and reality of being a Christian in today's world Manda walked through a season of seeking external validation which led to infidelity in her marriage. She talks openly about the web of guilt and shame that kept her entangled. Manda shares how one honest conversation, led to healing and restoration in her marriage. Matt spent a number of years silently struggling with a desire to look at explicit content. After breaking the cycle, he began to live in wholeness and now helps others do the same. This conversation and space were created to shed light on a topic that so many struggle with. As you listen, I hope you'll feel less alone or better equipped to help someone you know who is going through this. Remember that there's freedom and grace found in the name of Jesus. And that is exactly the kind of beautiful work she models and invites others into in her latest book. Foster care is also not only part of Manda's family's life, but a large part of her advocacy work as well.In today's episode, I talk with Manda about why she's so passionate about foster care, the importance of radical honesty in her own story, why tending to our inner world and wounding is so important, how slowing down is pivotal for self-awareness and soul work, and how beauty so often occurs in the unseen. Radical honesty is something that challenges our lives and the way we live day-to-day. In mental health and addiction recovery, radical honesty does lead to radical healing. Now, she works as a foster parent to support other children who go through similar experiences. "I believe that God uses the catastrophes of our life to be the catalysts of our calling." - Manda CarpenterIn her new book, Soul Care to Save Your Life: How Radical Honesty Leads to Real Healing, Manda shares her own personal journey and drops some gritty and real examples of how being ruthlessly honest can lead to living a more authentic life. I had the privilege of being a guest on Manda Carpentner's podcast called A Longer Table, and wanted to share that interview here because I think the things we discussed are super valuable for you to hear. In this interview, we talk about a number of topics such as:  Purity Culture What to do when you feel the need to manage an other's sexuality How important is sex, really? What is your definition of sex, and does it have to involve intercourse? If you're struggling sexually, what advice would give? Is scheduling sex a good idea? Is it bad to use toys? What about dirty talk? Perspectives on how pornography affects marriage Manda Carpenter is a wife, mother, foster mom, and Christian. I love her podcast, A Longer Table, because she intentionally includes conversations with people that have very different backgrounds, just to get their perspective and to broaden her understanding with people that think differently than she does. I think we could all use a healthy dose of open and honest communication once in a while! And this topic was all about sex, a topic I'm particularly passionate about :)

TRIGGER WARNING: This entire episode is about abortion and if you are not in a place to hear abortion or pregnancy loss be talked about openly and casually, this may not be the best episode to listen to.Sam joins us for a solo episode to talk all about abortion! She shares her own abortion decision and experience, how it has affected her relationship with her mom, informs us about fake abortion clinics, and why it’s impossible to be a “good pro-lifer.” Example of a sneaky “Fake Abortion Clinic” in Sam's hometown, LaGrange, IL. http://www.womenscarecenter.org/A helpful video explaining Fake Abortion Clinics:https://exposefakeclinics.squarespace.com/A map of all the Crisis Pregnancy Centers in the US. We also talk about our favorite books to give as gifts and how we do grocery shopping (and Tanorria sets the record straight once and for all on how to do green beans). Full show notes here. Manda Carpenter is 28 years old and has already been a foster mom for several years. It's a passion God put on her heart years go, in childhood, and she was just waiting for the opportunity to go for it. She met an incredible man, married him and the two set out on their foster journey. They even signed up to take on kids with significant psychological issues, those cases that not everyone might be willing to take on, She's an incredible advocate and a humble servant of Jesus. In the midst of motherhood, Manda is also thriving as a writer, speaker and leader. She recently came out with a devotional, "Space" and is working on her first full-length book. She has a couple of life mantras, including "Impressing is Exhausting" and "Get Too Attached" (in reference to being a foster parent). Honestly, it was so refreshing to speak with someone just letting God take the lead in life. She's got a platform, readers and followers, but Manda's heart is humble and pure. It's hard not to be inspired by the way she lives her life and respect the way she honestly tackles the tough questions that come with fostering and living life as we are called to as Christians. Build a longer table, she says. I'm in. Christmas is next week! That means we are right in the middle of the Christmas “hustle,” and I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of this season leaving so many people feeling wiped out and stressed. It’s the complete opposite of what we should be feeling this time of the year, yet we’re all running around like crazy to get shopping done or finish deadlines at work, or attending a bunch of Christmas parties. There’s just this crazy “hustle” mindset that seems to set in this time of the year and we start freaking out a little bit. What we need is some space and to just slow down.  Well friends, that is the topic of this week’s show. My guest this week is Manda Carpenter, author of the “Space” devotional. She has so much insight on this topic, so we talked a ton about slowing down this time of the year to create space in our lives and maintain balance — physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, all of it. We also talked about her new book coming out in 2021, and if you’re an aspiring author, we dove into the book writing process and she gives some really great tips on how to go about that. Manda has been a huge help to me as I’ve been writing my own book, so if you’re interested at all in writing a book, this conversation is definitely for you.  I’m excited for you all to hear this conversation because I think it’s so important to hear right now. If you know someone who thinks they’re too busy to listen to this right now, they’re probably the person who needs to hear this conversation, so be sure to tell them to listen as well. Today's conversation is with speaker and ministry leader, Manda Carpenter. Manda is a wife and foster mom living in Chicago. Her focus is investing in women and encouraging them to grow their relationship with God and leadership of self and others.  We spend time talking about how #impressingisexhausting and how becoming owners of our junk can allow us to experience freedom. Manda shares how God brought her out of her own shame and how His grace creates beautiful transformation.    Our chat also digs into the busy of everyday life and how necessary it is for our souls to refuel. Manda tells how she wasn't fully present during some seasons of her life and saw a need to create space. She shares that space used well isn't selfish and if Jesus needed time away to rest, then we certainly can't get away without giving our minds, souls, and bodies space as well.
