I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Jane Talbot. I've done lots of work with Jane over the past few months around my sports mindset, and she's helped me a lot. I realized that I kept mentioning her on this show, and it was time to bring her on once again. We discussed Jane's adventures a few years ago when she was first on the show in episode 130. This was such a juicy conversation, full of super practical tips on how you can improve your sports mindset. As Jane says, you don't need to be an elite athlete to want to improve your mindset. And I can tell you from firsthand experience that every little bit of work on your sports mindset helps to make things easier. About Jane Jane Talbot is an adventurer, author, theatre-maker, athlete and coach. Her work in the field of personal development spans more than 23 years. I'm back again, with another solo episode! This episode is inspired by my 42 km (26.2 mile) run last week. I got about halfway through, and I almost quit. But then I went on, and I was so happy to have completed my goal for the run. Afterwards, I evaluated my experience, and I thought about what would help me get through the low points in my next long run. In this episode, I share my own personal guidelines for quitting, and how you can plan in advance to more easily evaluate whether or not quitting is the best option for you. I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Suneet Kaur. I’ve known Suneet for about ten years now, and I’ve always had massive respect for her work. She was my teacher for the Plant Spirit Healing Apprenticeship I completed in 2019, and I hope to learn from her again in the future. In this week’s episode, we talk about plant spirit healing: what are plant spirits, and how they can help us with our healing and personal growth. About Suneet Suneet is a trained and initiated Shamanic Practitioner. She is also a Plant Spirit Healer, Usui Reiki Master Teacher and Student Medical Herbalist. Suneet was born with the psychic abilities to see, hear, know and feel things beyond our five senses and had many psychic experiences from very early childhood. As Suneet got older she found a deep faith in God and walked with Spirit by her side for many years before life events led to her coming out of the 'psychic closet'. These events opened up a deep desire to help others and be in Service to the Divine, God, Great Spirit. This led her to setting up her practice Divine Souls in 2013 and she began offering Healing and Readings. Once she began her practice, Suneet very quickly found herself hurtling down the Shamanic Path with a very firm boot in her back from Spirit. On this path of profound personal healing and rebirth, Suneet fell in love with the Plant Kingdom. She began studying with different teachers to learn, heal and explore the wise healing magic of working with Plant Spirits. Suneet now teaches how to work with Plant Spirits for personal healing or to become a practitioner, she holds Plant Spirit Ceremonies and Initiations for those who would like to explore their own relationship with the Plant Kingdom. This is the main focus of her work. Suneet is particularly passionate about UK native and non psychoactive plant spirit medicines as a way to heal and is currently studying to become a Medical Herbalist. I'm back again, with another solo episode! I've been thinking a lot about the importance of knowing your WHY for your outdoors adventures and fitness activities. It really helps to troubleshoot, make changes, and adjust details when you're in the middle of an activity and something goes wrong—or when you simply need to make some changes. Knowing your WHY helps you to push yourself through challenging times so you can achieve your goals and stretch yourself out of your comfort zone. It helps with resilience. In this episode, I share a couple of examples from my recent outdoors adventures: a recent race and a fantastic 35K walk that I did last weekend. Note: in the episode, I mention the idea of creating a separate values list for outdoors adventures, but when I sat down to do it, I realized the general values list works just as well for outdoors adventures. I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Sarah K Brandis. She's a friend of mine and I was inspired by her recent article on Medium to invite her onto the show. I've got some ambitious goals coming up with my running, and I want to be sure that I don't end up burned out from the training. While this conversation is about running, the things we discuss can apply to all types of fitness and adventures: hiking, cycling, whatever. As you'll hear in this episode, they also apply to work, business, and life in general. Sarah was a recent guest blogger on my website, and wrote a post called Solo Trail Running for Women: Staying Safe in the Outdoors. Check it out. About Sarah Sarah K Brandis is a mental health writer, enthusiastic amateur distance runner, 'elective orphan' and content marketer - although she is trying to shed that last role and simplify her life. Having cut contact with her abusive parents at age 16, Sarah's life has been an adventure filled with learning things the hardest way possible. I'm back again, with another solo episode! As I was going over my informal list of fitness goals for the next few years, I realized that I have already planned some events for this year that I wasn't intending to do until next year. This got me thinking about why it's so important to regularly re-evaluate our goals, plans, and projects. Sometimes we can do things sooner than planned. Sometimes we can even add new goals. And sometimes we need to take things off our plate. In this episode, I tell the story of how I've re-evaluated my own goals, and how you can do the same. I'm back again, with another solo episode! This week's episode is inspired by a search phrase that someone used to arrive at my website. I always pay attention to the search terms that people use: if they're relevant to what I'm writing about now, I often use it as inspiration for a new blog post or podcast episode. In the past, I've talked about how to prioritize the things that are important to us. Life is busy. We often don't have time to do all the things we want to do. But it's important to learn how to prioritize our time—otherwise, we end up getting swept away by the stream of life, letting life happen to us rather than creating the life we want to live. Here's how to prioritize the things that make you happy. Listen To This Episode What You'll Learn How to prioritize your hobbies and adventures How to determine how much free time you have to devote to your hobbies How to design your ideal week + see how your hobbies fit in How to fit your hobbies into your ideal year How to get clear on why your hobbies are so important to you How to see if your mindset is supporting you in making your hobbies a priority Related Episodes 308 Holly Worton ~ How To Create More Expansive Joy In Your Life (now with downloadable transcript!) 304 Holly Worton ~ How To Prioritize When You Can’t Do It All 287 Holly Worton ~ How to Let Go of Worrying & Focus on What You Actually DO Want (now with downloadable transcript!) Joanna Hennon and I are back with another co-hosted episode! This week, we’re talking about how to use oracle cards in your outdoor adventures, and how the cards can enrich your inner journey. Ever since I first walked the South Downs Way, I’ve been pulling oracle cards before my long-distance walks. I pull one card for each day, and sometimes I’ll pull an extra card to represent the overarching theme of the journey. It helps me to set the intention for each day, and gives me insight into what’s going on for me internally. Plus, when the going gets rough (physically), it gives me a mantra to focus on as I put one foot in front of the other toward my destination. Jack's Silly Little Friendly Neighborhood Star Trek Discovery Podcast
Jack, Sam and Barm reunite just to hang out and talk Trek, and it feels so good. And this seems to be the perfect episode for them to do just that! It’s really a hangout sesh, as the Boims talk about their love of Boimler, their admiration for the whole voice cast, the positive evolution of Mariner, and a buncha real nerdy shit, like reveling in the second EDOSIAN to appear in Trek, cataloguing the freaks, unveiling the secret history of McDonald’s and Doug Jones, defending Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 and laughing at language nerd Jack’s apparent inability to identify basic dialects. And Sam is here to respond to our reactions to the Deanna Smackdown and credit the podcast with LIFE-CHANGING REVELATIONS. Want some of those? LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE.
I'm back again, with another solo episode! This topic was inspired by my recent walk on the Ridgeway National Trail, where I was away from computers and emails for just over a week. I came back to the office feeling rested, refreshed, and ready to get going on my work. It was like a total reset for my mind, even though I wasn't completely offline – I did use my iPad to type up my book chapters each evening, and I did use my iPhone to take photos and upload them to Instagram. I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Brad Borkan. We first met at a Meetup group for authors in London, and I recently read his first book, When Your Life Depends on It: Extreme Decision Making Lessons from the Antarctic. I loved reading the stories of Antarctic explorers, and how we can learn to make better decisions in our own lives based on how they made decisions 100 years ago. While most of us will not make it to the South Pole, we all have our own outdoors adventures in life, and in this episode you'll learn how to make better decisions in life. Listen To This Episode About Brad Borkan Brad Borkan has a lifelong interest in how people survive, and thrive, in almost impossible situations. Brad is co-author of the book, When Your Life Depends on It. The book puts the reader right into the action of the life-and-death decisions made by early explorers. It also looks at what we can learn from their situations to help us make better decisions in our modern lives. When Your Life Depends on It has been endorsed by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the world’s greatest living explorer. Brad is an author and lecturer and has presented at business and Antarctic conferences, appeared on cable TV in the US, as a guest on podcasts and internet radio programs as well as a keynote speaker at a literary festival. Brad has travelled to all 7 continents. In 2019, Brad gave a guest lecture about his book on a 114 passenger “expedition” cruise to Antarctica. Originally from the US, and now based in London, Brad was honored to be made a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society. He and his co-author are working on a new book about decision making to be released at the end of 2020. His website is www.extreme-decisions.com. Dinner time at our house used to be the most stressful hour of my day. I would call friends, complain, pull my hair out, and walk away feeling more exhausted and drained than the night before. My oldest daughter was what one might call a "picky" eater, and I was terrified she wasn't going to get the nutrition she needed. My anxiety led me to become a less-than-pleasant dinner partner without even realizing it. I heard things coming out of my mouth that I knew were unproductive and potentially harmful (ie encouraging my daughter to eat when she wasn't hungry), but I kept doing the same thing over and over again. Mealtime looks 180 degrees different today, thanks in large part to many of the principles that has led nearly 50K people to follow this episode's interviewee, Kylie Mitchell, as she leads the way to intuitive eating after recovering from an eating disorder. With two young children herself, she helps moms navigate mealtime and takes the stress out by providing us with some pretty cool information about why our kids are the way they are around food and we can be supportive, confident and less stressed at the dinner table. If you find yourself dreading dinnertime like I was, LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE! Kylie has so much great advice for adults and their children. Cara Wilde is back on the podcast, and she's joining me for a co-hosted episode! Cara has been a guest on the show several times before. Today, we talk about what’s really driving us, and what’s really keeping us stuck: our values. Cara has a totally different way of working with values than I had ever seen before, and I’ve found it to be life-changing. In just two weeks since I worked with her on redefining my values, I’ve shifted into a new identity and started making completely different decisions in life. Listen To This Episode About Cara Wilde Cara is a mystic, shaman and healer whose business Wild Bliss focuses on creating a more sacred planet one person at a time. Cara supports professional women who want to remember who they truly are, why they are here and want to express that as a body of work in the world. Cara left her counselling and more mainstream work behind her when she couldn’t use her psychic abilities or work with guides and began to feel as though she was working blind. She set up her own business as an EFT practitioner, started to use her channeling and intuitive abilities and felt like she’d got the team on board and helped her clients in making more significant and longer-lasting changes in their lives. As part of her work Cara channels, a collective called The Ancients, and offers practical guidance and support specific to the needs and concerns of those of us who are deeply sensitive and passionate about creating real change in the world. Cara passionately believes that those of us considered misfits are truly here to create a new way in the world and are part of the Divine’s blueprint for a Heaven on Earth. Cara lives in Cornwall, surrounded by the ocean and stone circles. When she isn’t working, you can find her running the trails or curled up under a heavy blanket with a good book. You can find her on her website and Instagram. I'm excited to introduce today's guest, Adam Wells. We met way back in 2011 or so at Toastmasters in London. Then we reconnected a couple of years later on his Discover the Camino Meetup Group. We’ve spent long hours out on walks talking about the Camino (which, you may remember, I’ve been wanting to do since 1996!) and I wanted to have him on the show to talk a little bit more about long-distance walking. About Adam Adam Wells is a life transition coach who helps individuals struggling to find new meaning, purpose and direction following a major, and perhaps unexpectedly difficult, life change event. Adam also mentors individuals wishing to embark upon an inner journey of personal transformation through walking Spain’s Camino de Santiago (Way of St James) pilgrimage path. For further information: www.adamwells.com or email. He also runs a walking group in London and Surrey for people interested in the Camino. I'm back again, with another solo episode! I've been getting emails from readers and podcast listeners asking me questions about writing their own books. With some of the people I sense a little hesitance—“Is my story worth telling?” I suspect they might be asking themselves. My answer: “Yes, it absolutely is.” I went through the same process when I worked on my first walking book, Alone on the South Downs Way, which just became available in its second edition. Despite the fact that I enjoy reading books about other people's walking adventures, I wondered if my story was actually worth telling. Thankfully, I did. Then I went on to write three more books about my walking long-distance trails. Next year, I hope to update my book on The Ridgeway, in the same way that I updated my South Downs Way book this year. Listen To This Episode What You'll Learn How to tell if your story is worth sharing How to get started sharing your story How to decide on the format of your story How to get clear on the things that might get in the way of putting it out there How to get the mindset you need to tell your story Things I Discussed Alone on the South Downs Way http://getbook.at/SDW All my other books http://hollyworton.com/books Related Episodes 298 Jo Casey + Holly ~ What it Takes to Publish Your Book (Both Inner & Outer Work) (now with downloadable transcript!) 265 Holly Worton ~ How to Know if You Should Write a Book For Your Business (now with downloadable transcript!)
