Stop Chasing Trends: Uncover the Real You for Lasting SuccessIn the first episode of her "Identity Series," Cayla Craft delves into the importance of understanding personal and brand identity, emphasizing how this can transform both life and business. She explains that many people chase trends without being rooted in their true identity, leading to confusion. Grounding the series in faith, Cayla encourages listeners to approach identity through a biblical lens, even for those unsure about their faith. She tackles four core questions: "Who am I?", "Where am I from?", "Why am I here?", and "Where am I going?". Cayla stresses that true identity goes beyond titles or roles and is rooted in being a child of God. By focusing on eternal purpose and divine love, she encourages listeners to live intentionally, both in business and in life.Key Moments:Understanding Identity (00:00:00 - 00:00:18): Cayla introduces her new 10-week series focused on understanding personal and brand identity, emphasizing how this knowledge can transform your business and life. The Importance of Being Rooted in Identity (00:01:01 - 00:01:24): She explains how people often get lost by chasing strategies and trends without being rooted in their true identity, leading to confusion and inconsistency in their business.Faith-Based Approach (00:02:02 - 00:02:14): Cayla shares that this series will be deeply faith-based, using biblical principles to help listeners discover their identity and purpose, encouraging an open mind even for those uncertain about their faith.Who Am I? (00:03:26 - 00:04:31): She tackles the first question of identity, "Who am I?" and explains that true identity goes beyond roles like mother or business owner—it's about being a child of God.Where Am I From? (00:06:37 - 00:07:03): Cayla introduces the second question, "Where am I from?" explaining that our true source is heaven, which gives us a new sense of purpose and confidence in our earthly journey. What Is My Purpose? (00:07:48 - 00:08:14): The third question Cayla discusses is "Why am I here?" She emphasizes that while our roles and jobs may vary, the overarching purpose is to love God and love others.Where Am I Going? (00:14:08 - 00:14:31): The final question Cayla addresses is "Where am I going?" She reminds listeners that their ultimate destination is heaven, encouraging them to focus on their eternal purpose rather than short-term success. Are you ready to be the game changer in someone else's life? Have you considered; we have a tendency to desire and seek comfort, but it is in adversity and learning to overcome, that we develop into the best version of ourselves? There are three questions that allow for a leader to get Clear Vision: Where am I now, where am I going, and what will it take to get there- how long? Those three questions will help a leader develop a CLEAR VISION. However, sometimes we need to ask another question, and that question is, “What am I doing here?’ Sometimes, we need to consider that where we are at, is beneath who we are! At the heart of student agency is engaging students directly in their learning in ways that provide them choice points, skill in navigating formative learning cycles, and increasing levels of expertise to assess, as Royce Sadler famously coined, “Where Am I Now?,” “Where Am I Going?”, and “How Will I Get There?”  This session examines elements of student ‘voice and choice' as critical enabling elements needed to build in students that kind of self-efficacy that will help them thrive and meet their full potential as learners. The conversation centers on practices and routines that are applicable to a number of scenarios and classroom contexts.  Our guests are Myron Dueck, author of Giving Students a Say  and Grading Smarter, Not Harder; and Brooke Mabry, Strategic Content Design Manager at NWEA.

I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Isabel Firecracker. Back in 2019, I was a guest on her podcast, The Honest Uproar. I really enjoyed our conversation, and I've been wanting to get her on my show for a while. I'm very much aware that I wouldn't have the time to do all the things I've been doing (like training for ultras) if I had children. I'm very grateful for my childfree lifestyle, but it was hard to get here. Like many of Isabel's clients, I didn't realize that childfree living was actually an option in life. You may or may not be childfree. I have many friends who are, and I know that some of my podcast listeners are as well. Childfreedom isn't about disliking children or being angry at parents. Everyone's lifestyle choices are valid. It's important for me to have these conversations because I hope to save others some of the confusion I had growing up. If you get just one thing out of this episode, I hope it's this: having children is a choice. It's not an obligation.   About Isabel Firecracker Isabel was born and raised in Colombia, and has called five countries "home" in her 30-something years. A world traveler, avid kitesurfer, and childfree intersectional feminist, Isabel is a pragmatic, no-nonsense coach for childfree women who struggle with feelings of insecurity, shame, guilt, or anger that surround their choice to not have children. She has designed her coaching programs specifically for this end: to help childfree women evolve and grow into the very best version of themselves. Isabel is a co-host of Childfree Girls, a podcast and web series that features three women in three different countries who challenge society's expectations of parenthood with no-holds-barred conversations and interviews. Isabel is also the host of The Honest Uproar podcast, a space for childfree women to gather and tell their #childfreestories. It was created to foster a stronger sense of community and to connect empowered women around the World. More recently, Isabel co-founded Nunca Madres. This community features childfree content in Spanish to raise awareness about how parenthood is a choice, and not an obligation, among the Spanish-speaking population. “Where Am I Going?” premiered on May 7th, 2019. It was written by Charlotte Stoudt, and directed by Tommy Kail. The total viewership dipped about 32,000 viewers from the previous week, coming in at about 878,000. The live viewership fell to 312,000, while oddly the DVR viewership rose to 565,000. This bottle episode had very little music in it; it was almost like a normal TV show!! The only featured song we had was an uncanny rendition by Michelle Williams of “Where Am I Going?” from Sweet Charity, with music and lyrics by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields, honestly proving why her star-turn as Gwen Verdon earned her an Emmy. Three months after checking himself into the Payne Whitney Psychiatry Clinic, Bob and his new girlfriend Annie are hosting a party for Neil Simon following the death of his wife, Joan. But joining them at their Southampton rental for the first time are Gwen and her new beau Ron. In their first moment alone, Bob asks Gwen what she thinks of Annie, telling her “Nicole really loves her.” But all Gwen wants to talk about is Chicago: scheduling a meeting with producers and telling him they have a theatre for the show. However, Bob is more interested in making his next project a biopic on Lenny Bruce starring Dustin Hoffman. Not only does that put Gwen’s plans for Chicago in jeopardy but it concerns Ann, who knows that his doctors suggested he take a year off of work or he’d end right back in the Clinic. The conversation comes to head after their dinner to celebrate Joan, where Paddy and Gwen both challenge Bob about his motivations for rushing Lenny to the screen. Amidst the adult conversations is Bob and Gwen’s daughter Nicole, who cycles through the rooms of the house wearing a midriff and refilling cigarette cases. After dinner, Gwen courts Ann to be on her side in persuading Bob to postpone Lenny, but it becomes clear they are both on different sides: Gwen wanting him to work on Chicago and Ann wanting him not to work at all. When Gwen puts Bob’s feet to the flame: “You wanna know the truth?. I’m finished with these corny, bullshit musical comedies.” It isn’t until Gwen admits she’s not sure that he’ll be alive to direct in two years and throws Hal Prince’s name into the ring that Bob agrees to kiss and make up. Well, it’s a kiss that leads to a lot more than just a kiss. In the early hours of the next morning, Gwen and Ann have a heart-to-heart over croissants: Gwen gives Ann her blessing because Bob has introduced her to Nicole. She also tasks Ann with keeping him from going off the edge, promising “he’ll give you what he gave me: Lola, Charity, Roxie.” But while Gwen has seemed to win Bob over into directing Chicago, Bob proclaims that he will be doing them both at the same time.   Today’s Guest I'm back again, with another solo episode! This week's episode was inspired by a conversation I had with someone online, which led me to reflect on how sadly uneducated I was about goal setting for the vast majority of my life. It took until I was in my late 30s until I really learned proper goal setting and applied it to my life. No wonder I spent so many years just drifting through life, letting things happen to me. Yes, I achieved some great things in those years, but honestly, it would have been a lot faster and easier if I had planned a little bit more in advance. Life would have been a lot smoother. Goal setting and planning is a massive part of my annual planning each year, and I wouldn't get anything done without it. I am VERY goal oriented. I take a lot of time to plan each year and what I want to achieve and experience. If I didn't do that, I'd probably just sit around and let life happen.   Listen To This Episode        What You'll Learn How to get set goals based on what you want to experience in your life How goals are different from new years resolutions Why it's so important to do mindset work alongside your practical actions Why you need to look at your goals/plan daily (unlike me) Things that can get in the way of you achieving your goals How to get over obstacles in your path to achieve your goals   Things I Discussed PSYCH-K®  Business Beliefs book  Asana   Related Episodes 327 Holly Worton ~ How to Conduct Your Year-End Review (now with downloadable transcript!) 325 Holly Worton ~ Life Planning + Goals for Each Decade of Your Life (now with downloadable transcript!) 321 Holly Worton ~ How to Balance Your Focus Between the Journey and the Destination (now with downloadable transcript!) 318 Holly Worton ~ How to Be Goal Driven & Still Allow Yourself Flexibility (now with downloadable transcript!) 317 Holly Worton ~ Know Yourself: How to Answer the Question of “Where Am I Going?” (now with downloadable transcript!) 316 Holly Worton ~ Know Yourself: How to Answer the Question of “Where Am I?” (now with downloadable transcript!) 315 Holly Worton ~ Know Yourself: How to Answer the Question of “Who Am I?” (now with downloadable transcript!)   Connect With Holly Website Facebook Instagram Twitter Pinterest Google+ LinkedIn   How to Subscribe Click here to subscribe via iTunes Click here to subscribe via RSS Click here to subscribe via Stitcher   Help Spread the Word If you enjoyed this episode, please head on over to iTunes and kindly leave us a rating and a review!   Today’s Guest I'm back again, with another solo episode! For about a decade of my life, I got way off track. I got involved with a person who was very manipulative and who engaged in gaslighting on a regular basis (what's that? Read this article). I totally lost touch with myself, and completely lost my inner compass - my trust in myself and in my decisions. You see, I made a series of bad decisions that got me into that situation to begin with, and which also kept me there for far too long. It was really, really hard to make different decisions to get myself out of there - I simply didn't trust myself. I understood the concept of a "true north" or inner compass, but I didn't have one. I had lost it.   Whether you've lost your inner compass or whether you've got one (but it's not quite what you'd like), this episode is for you. It will help you to trust yourself and to make better decisions for yourself, so you can create the life you want to live. Ultimately, only YOU know what's best for you.   Today’s Guest I'm back again, with another solo episode! This week's episode was inspired by an email from  listener Alex, who wrote: “Nature helps me find my inner peace … It allows me to breathe better and even sometimes when I lie down comfortably on the ground floor next to flowers and grass, I then indulge into some private thinking time without any interruption. Have I come to any exciting realizations you ask? Well I can say I definitely have and my most recent one was establishing my life goals for the next 50-60 years from now. You might think it's ambitious, but I believe with a little help and fresh air, I'd established myself where I want to be in 50 years time. One such moment before the end of August, I was sat down with nature with a pen and paper and I plotted where and what I want to achieve in my 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and even my 60s and 70s! Sounds like a lot of hard work I'm preparing for, but I've a whole life to achieve these goals before I hope to die before I'm 100!" Well, I was impressed! I certainly didn't have that level of clarity about my life when I was in my teens, much less my 20s. I didn't start really planning my life and setting my goals until I was in my mid-30s, which is pretty late. So I started thinking: what has each decade of my life been like so far? What do I want future decades to be like? I spend a lot of time setting goals for each upcoming year, but it's been ages since I really took the time to look this far into the future. I think it's a fantastic exercise in life planning and reality creation, and I urge you to take the time to do the same. Essentially, this is a very detailed way of answering the last of The Three Questions (Who am I – Where am I – Where am I going).   Listen To This Episode        What You'll Learn How to create a detailed vision for your life The questions you need to ask yourself to get clarity on each stage Distilling this vision down into goals for each decade of your life Why it's never too late to get started – and why this is vital to creating a happy life How to get started creating your life vision today     Things to Consider in Each Decade What does your career/business look/feel/sound like? What does your finance/money situation look/feel/sound like? Where are you in terms of personal growth? What does your health/wellness/fitness look/feel/sound like? What does your family look/feel/sound like? What do your friends and your social life look/feel/sound like? What does your spiritual life look/feel/sound like? How are you expressing yourself creatively? How are you giving back with your time/money? What do you want to be/do/have in each decade of your life? How do you want to feel? When do you want to retire, and what does retirement look like to you?   Things I Discussed Wheel of life 315 Holly Worton ~ Know Yourself: How to Answer the Question of “Who Am I?” (now with downloadable transcript!) 316 Holly Worton ~ Know Yourself: How to Answer the Question of “Where Am I?” (now with downloadable transcript!) 317 Holly Worton ~ Know Yourself: How to Answer the Question of “Where Am I Going?” (now with downloadable transcript!)   Connect With Holly Website Facebook Instagram Twitter Pinterest Google+ LinkedIn   How to Subscribe Click here to subscribe via iTunes Click here to subscribe via RSS Click here to subscribe via Stitcher   Help Spread the Word If you enjoyed this episode, please head on over to iTunes and kindly leave us a rating and a review!   Today’s Guest I'm back again, with another solo episode! As is often the case, this week's topic is about something that's been on my mind lately, and I wanted to share my thoughts with you. I doubt I'm the only person who ever wonders this! I have received a lot of healing in the past month and a half, ever since a really deep healing retreat that I went on. However, this healing was deceptively “gentle” (yet deep), and since I haven't been doing any mindset work with myself, I didn't realize how much healing I was actually doing. Healing is change, and change can be stressful. We're stepping into a new version of ourselves, and sometimes into a new identity. This requires energy, and it requires downtime to integrate the healing and the changes. Sometimes we need to take a look at all the inner work that we do and ask ourselves: is it too much? Do we need to press pause for a while? How much is too much?   Listen To This Episode        What You'll Learn Is it possible to do too much healing and inner work? The overall purpose of the Academy is to significantly close the college achievement gap for Latino males. In California, the best and brightest Latino males accepted into the UC system as freshmen experience the highest dropout rate, at over 80%. The Academy was designed to increase access, improve retention, and increase baccalaureate completion for Latino males. The Academy's culturally-relevant curriculum teaches core competencies leading to improved self-esteem, self-worth, and personal confidence. Utilizing successful, experienced Latino male faculty, aspiring Latino male high school students are exposed to the daily challenges of college living. The mission of the Leadership Academy is to prepare low-income Latino male students (grades 6-12) for successful admission to the college of their choice. The Leadership Academy promotes a strong community and personal value of giving back. Every Academy student is challenged to generate answers to the three Encuentros questions: Who Am I?
