Talking about, even announcing to our staff, what we are going to do and what we intend to do is a behavior displayed by leaders under the title of "Casting Vision". The question must be asked though, how many of those plans actually come to fruition and how many end up just being abandoned? Today we will be talking about the power your words have and the necessity to communicate responsibly to those you lead in the coffee shop. It’s never too late to start reducing the toxic load in your home. I’m joined by Genevieve White who brings her incredible story back from chronic illness. Genevieve also shares some insight into how to start reducing your household toxins, from easy to implement tips to longer-term projects to undertake. The Easiest & Most Impactful Way to Reduce Your Toxic Load: Open your windows every day Leave your shoes at the door Dust often with a moist rag Remove the phthalates in your home About Genevieve White Genevieve White healed herself from years of chronic fatigue, digestive disorders, and generalized pain through extensive detoxification of both her body and her living environment. This experience moved her to leave her career in marketing and become a Certified Health Coach and Environmental Health Specialist. In this capacity, she works with people on the autoimmune spectrum that haven’t been able to get the help they need from their doctors. Together they address diet and lifestyle factors that ultimately lead to more energy, better digestion, and resolved inflammation. Her knowledge and expertise make her a go-to resource for people experiencing chronic conditions, and her interviews and writing are available on a variety of online natural health summits, docu-series, and websites. The Toxic Load in Our Home Genevieve White brings quite the tale of how an unusually high toxic load made her chronically ill - to the point she didn’t know if she’d ever be well again. However, once she discovered the source of her illness: toxins - she transformed her lifestyle, reduced the toxins in her regular routine, and found her way back to herself. She explains some of the processes she went through to reduce her toxic load. Genevieve’s biggest recommendation is to undergo detoxes, especially from the use of saunas. But it’s not just the toxic load in our bodies and outside the home that we should worry about. Genevieve reveals that the air inside our home is significantly more toxic than the outside air. This is due to our use of chemical cleaners, detergents, perfumes, personal care products, and quite a few other products you might not even consider. How to Start Reducing Your Toxic Load Genevieve shares that many of our household products contain phthalates and other chemicals. She recommends replacing our storage containers, carpets, shower curtains, mattresses, and everyday cleaners. It doesn’t have to be all at once as we all know that can be an expensive undertaking, but when you do replace something, try to choose something with a lower toxic load. Environmental toxins predominantly link to the prevalence of chronic illness our society has right now. As we’ve developed more and more different types of chemicals and plastics, our bodies have come under pretty severe stress trying to keep up with it. As Genevieve says, no one’s body is built to be able to detoxify that amount of exposure. Genevieve leaves us with some parting advice to start reducing your toxic load immediately. From opening your windows every day to taking your shoes off at the door, there are simple ways you can create lasting change in your house. What products will you start replacing with lower toxic loads? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “We have way more exposures to toxins than our bodies are built for. There are over 84,000 chemicals listed for use in the US marketplace. No one’s body is built to be able to detoxify that amount of exposure.” [6:36] “What people need to be aware of is that in most situations if it says BPA-free, it’s been replaced by BPS or BPF which is just as dangerous, if not worse, than BPA. I recommend people replace these products with glass or stainless steel.” [16:56] “If you’re not detoxifying and going through the process of being really careful with getting these toxins out of your body as you’re losing weight, you’re releasing the toxins into your bloodstream which is making you sick. That’s why you keep going on the diet cycle.” [26:03] In This Episode How to remove heavy metal toxicity from your body [9:00] Why the air inside our home is more toxic than the air outside [10:30] Some of the hidden sources of plastic you need to be aware of [14:00] Why you need to replace your household plastics with less toxic materials [18:00] Why environmental toxins relate to chronic disease [24:30] How to easily reduce your household toxic load [34:00] Links & Resources Check Out Why Antioxidants are Important on the Blog and use Code ENERGY for 10% off Mitochondrial Complex Get your Free copy of How to Make or Buy Personal Care Products that Support Your Health Buy a Magnolia Barrier Protector for your Mattress Buy a Mattress Wrap to Block Off-Gassing Chemicals Learn About Safety Ratings for Household Cleaners Find Made Safe Online Find Genevieve White Online Follow Genevieve White on Instagram | Facebook Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 10: 5 Pillars Of A Toxin-free Lifestyle With Aimee Carlson Episode 32: Happy Hormones For Life With Dr. Deb Matthew Episode 15: Community And Curiosity For Longevity With Dr. Sandra Scheinbaum
If You Want To Start Allowing Your Body To Do What It Was Created For You Should: Use Dr. Will’s 4-week fasting guide to clean out your cells Start listening for your intuition and making notes of the foods that make your body feel great Find your own sweet spot when it comes to metabolic flexibility and fueling your body with what feels good for you Integrate wellness into your life infused with a true knowledge of what your body loves and hates If you want to feel good, have energy throughout the entire day, get a good night's sleep, and successfully achieve your ideal weight, it is essential to get your inflammatory levels under control. Inflammation is the driver of most major diseases, but the good news is that you can use food and fasting to fight inflammation and regulate your hormones. Gain Metabolic Flexibility and Find Food Peace Dr. Will Cole is a leading functional-medicine expert who consults people worldwide and specializes in clinically investigating underlying factors of chronic disease and customizing a functional medicine approach. His new book, Intuitive Fasting, shows how to use the powerful benefits of flexible intermittent fasting to gain metabolic flexibility and find food peace. Intuition Is Key We all have an inflammatory response system that is unique to us, which is why Dr. Will encourages the use of intuitive fasting to learn what your body loves and hates. Fasting allows your cells to clean things up and allows your body to burn fat for fuel first and sugar for fuel when you need it. Dr. Will wants you to use fasting as a way to grow in your intuitive awareness of what feels good for your body specifically so that you can adopt fasting practices into your life long term. The combination of flexible, vacillating, intermittent fasting, along with a nutrient-rich ketotarian diet, can help you find your unique sweet spot, increase your metabolic flexibility, and fuel your body with the foods you love. Not Another Fad Diet While the idea of fasting may seem like another fad diet, it couldn’t be further from that. Our bodies and genetics are designed to make the most of fasting in a healthy way, and the benefits of fasting are literally coded into our DNA. In addition to fasting, a ketotarian diet can mimic the same benefits of fasting, allowing for more powerful results. Finding the right foods for your body and when to eat them can help stop inflammation in its tracks and allow you to really get aligned with what your body needs from you. Have you ever tried fasting? Are you looking to have your intuition guide you in the way you take back control of your health? Share your thoughts on Dr. Will Cole’s Intuitive Fasting framework with me in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “Stress eating isn’t intuitive eating. And I want people to get to a place of intuition, a deep knowledge of what their body loves and what their body hates. And a great way to still that noise, to quiet and calm that noise, to recenter yourself and ground yourself, is intermittent fasting or intuitive fasting.” (8:53) “We are all going to be coming into this system of intuitive fasting at different points in our wellness journey.” (12:49) “This is not a fad diet where we are just punishing our body with deep fasts. We are finding that balance, and that is where metabolic flexibility resides.” (18:35) “I really want to encourage people, whether you are going through the things we are talking about or you know someone you love, really wake people up to the fact that these things are overcomeable, improvable, supportable things! And your body is amazingly resilient.” (24:09) “Through the pairing of flexible intermittent fasting and a clean ketogenic diet and clean carb cycling, from there, you can really know what your body loves and what your body hates. You will have a clear knowing, and that to me transcends a protocol or a diet or a plan.” (30:49) In This Episode How to start intuitive fasting and why it works so well for gaining metabolic flexibility (7:10) Recommendations for your fasting journey after the initial first four weeks (12:32) Which life-giving foods you should be focusing on and how you should be eating (14:10) Benefits that you can expect when increasing your metabolic flexibility through fasting (19:20) Why becoming more intuitive about your health is the cornerstone of sustainable wellness (29:40) Resources Mentioned: Dr. Will Cole Website Intuitive Fasting by Dr. Will Cole Follow Dr. Will on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter Related Episodes: Essentially You Episode #133: Understanding Inflammation and Your Individual Food Triggers with Dr. Will Cole Essentially You Episode #32: Calm Inflammation with the Ketotarian Diet with Dr. Will Cole Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative

I am so excited to share this interview with Adam Obrátil, the co-founder of one of the Czech Republic's most well known and foundational cafes, Industra Coffee! Founded in 2013, Industra brought a newer specialty coffee experience to the Czech coffee scene that was just beginning to get established. Both Adam and his partner Petra Střelecká are long time coffee pros who cut their teeth in some of London's busiest cafes before starting the shop. Both Adam and Petra have competition experience and Petra is 3x Czech Brewers Cup Champion and 6th place finisher at WBrC. Through the years of running the shop they have grown from just the two of them working behind the bar, to now a staff of 10 people serving a large and loyal, growing customer base. In my conversation with Adam we learn about their history, their road to ownership, the biggest lessons along the way and how they have approached service, quality, delegation and what their plans are for the future! The Anthropology of Childhood is a monumental work of scholarship. Professor David Lancy has combed the ethnographic record with an eye to understanding the range of experiences of children around the world in different types of societies - hunter-gatherers, subsistence farmers and herders, pastoral nomads, and modern industrialised societies, particularly in the West and in East Asia. The author also considers juveniles of other primates, such as chimpanzees and bonobos. I consider it to be so rich in content, and so important, that I am doing my longest episode ever, splitting this up into nine (!) individual recordings. Otherwise I would be talking continuously for over six hours straight. The reason I think this is so worth studying is that it provides us with insight into what we take for granted. Culturally, we are all fish that can't see the water that surrounds us. By looking at a broad survey of human and other primate societies we can see what we might have thought to be cultural and yet is in fact a human universal (such as family drama or boys forming gangs); and, on the other hand, behaviours that we may have thought to be part of human nature but are actually specific to a very restricted set of cultures (such as parent-child play or - importantly! - teaching). The material in this many-part episode includes a number of difficult themes, since unfamiliar societies often do things in a way that violates our moral sense. However, I am not interested in judging the morality or not of other cultures' practices, but simply want to know about them and understand them. For this reason, I might talk about some shocking things in an apparently blasé or rather academically detached fashion - not because there are no practices mentioned that I consider distasteful, but because I am not interested in discussing these issues. Please bear this in mind when listening. Enjoy the episode. *** RELATED EPISODES 89. The World Until Yesterday by Jared Diamond; 99. China's Examination Hell by Ichisada Miyazaki
Essential oils can be a vital part of your health and wellness routine. Despite them being quite a hot topic right now, the science behind why essential oils work is fascinating. Jodi Sternoff Cohen, the founder of Vibrant Blue Oils, joins me today to talk all about essential oils for health. Essential Oils are Most Effective for Five Specific Things: Balancing the Nervous System Supporting Restful Sleep Helping Move Lymph Flow and Circulation Calming the Endocrine System Modulating the Immune System About Jodi Sternoff Cohen Jodi Sternoff Cohen is a bestselling author, award-winning journalist, functional practitioner, and founder of Vibrant Blue Oils, where she has combined her training in nutritional therapy and aromatherapy to create unique proprietary blends of organic and wild-crafted essential oils. She has helped over 50,000 clients heal from brain-related challenges, including anxiety, insomnia, and autoimmunity. For the past ten years, she has lectured at wellness centers, conferences, and corporations on brain health, essential oils, stress, and detoxification. She has been seen in The New York Times, Wellness Mama, Elephant Journal, and numerous publications. Her website, vibrantblueoils.com, is visited by over 300,000 natural health seekers every year, and she has rapidly become a top resource for essential oils education on the Internet today. Jodi would like to talk about her new book - "Essential Oils to Boost the Brain and Heal the Body", She can talk about the Parasympathetic state and how it can support your health. How Essential Oils Work Jodi Sternoff Cohen started her journey into oils after she’d exhausted what seemed like all other options. But once she discovered the science behind essential oils and started mixing her own blends, Jodi finally felt like herself for the first time in years. One of the reasons essential oils work so well is that their scent goes directly to your brain - one of the most difficult parts of your body to treat for any illness. But Jodi cautions against using any oil, even some of the leading ones on the market, as not all oils are of equal quality. Jodi recommends using organic oils only - especially since you’re smelling and ingesting them. Jodi gives some great insight into who should use essential oils and how they work. While essential oil use is beneficial for many conditions, from mental health to physical health, there are some illnesses you shouldn’t use oils to treat. Oils essentially work by creating a positive interaction with your Vagus Nerve, the largest nerve in our bodies, which helps promote your body’s own healing. How to Use Essential Oils There are many different ways to use essential oils. Jodi’s preferred methods are direct inhalation (breathing in through the nostrils) or applying to the skin. When applying the oils to the skin, it’s important to use a carrier oil, such as high-quality, organic coconut oil. Essential oil use is extremely beneficial for middle-aged women in particular as it aids in so many different parts of your life and health. But it’s not solely women who can benefit from oils, men, children, and pets can, too! Jodi gives us her best tips for working with essential oils for your children and pets. Her advice? Let your kids pick their own - it helps to strengthen their intuition and bond with the oils. Finally, Jodi wants you to know that it’s okay if you don’t like the smell of oil. You don’t need to use it. Trust yourself to pick the oils you need to use. Do you use essential oils? What’s your favorite oil to use? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! Quotes “Trust yourself. Trust your intuition. If something smells artificial, avoid it.” [15:52] “The on-off switch between the sympathetic branch of the nervous system and the parasympathetic branch is the longest nerve in the body that most people have never heard of: It’s your Vagus Nerve, Cranial Nerve #10. Anatomy lesson: Starts at the very base of the skull, winds around both sides - if you feel behind your earlobe right now, that’s your mastoid bone that you’re feeling. That’s where your Vagus Nerve is most accessible to the surface. It innervates the throat, mouth, larynx, heart, lungs, every organ of digestion and detoxification. It’s a bi-directional communication system. This is how the brain communicates to the body and how the body communicates to the brain. Anywhere that it touches and innervates, like the lungs, can activate your sympathetic calm-down branch. Like if you do yoga and wonder why you always feel great during Savasana, it’s because of the breathing and the postures. You’re stimulating your Vagus Nerve, you’re activating your parasympathetic nervous system, and you’re basically turning on your ability to heal. That’s where oils are super magical.” [20:36] “The more obstacles you put in someone’s way, the harder it is for them to actually adhere to it. That was the point of the book: I give you the exact recipe if you want to do it yourself, fabulous. If that’s not your cup of tea, I’ll do it for you. It’s trying to meet people where they’re at and give them more information to use oils in an even more robust way to support their healing.” [35:09] In This Episode What oil blend helped Jodi feel herself for the first time in years [6:30] Why smell is the fastest route to the brain [14:00] How to choose a safe and organic essential oil [15:30] What health conditions essential oils are best for [18:00] What the role of carrier oil is [22:30] How essential oils are beneficial to middle-aged women [31:00] How children can use essential oils [37:00] What pets and animals can be exposed to essential oils [47:00] Links & Resources Use code DIM for 10% off DIM or code ESTROGENDETOX for 15% off DIM + Other Supplements Use code LIVERDETOX for 10% off the Core Restore Program Use Code BLUEPRINT10 for $10 Off All Oils Parasympathetic - 5mL Hypothalamus - 5mL Lymph - 5mL Pre-Order Essential Oils to Boost the Brain & Heal the Body by Jodi Sternoff Cohen Download your FREE Bonus Chapter Find Jodi Sternoff Cohen Online Follow Jodi Sternoff Cohen on Instagram | Facebook | Facebook Group | YouTube | LinkedIn | Pinterest Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 31: Gut/Brain Connection With Dr. Lauryn Lax Episode 30: Soma Breathing For Longevity With Jen Broyles Episode 32: Happy Hormones For Life With Dr. Deb Matthew
Scot McKnight and Laura Barringer join me to discuss the abuse of power in the church, creating a goodness culture, and how the western business model has negatively impacted the church. Topics they wrote about in their book A Church Called Tov. Questions Scot, Laura and I Discussed: (3:39) Your family attended and served at Willow Creek Church for a number of years. What were some strengths and weaknesses you observed while attending? (7:33) The two of you have written A Church Called Tov: Forming a Goodness Culture That Resists Abuses of Power and Promotes Healing. Laura, will you share a bit of the back story that led you to write this book? (15:47) "We form church cultures, but we are simultaneously formed by the cultures we've helped form." In relation to the church, Scot unpack that a bit for us. (18:56) What are a few early warning signs of a toxic church culture? (22:57) Something I have witnessed personally is the mis-application of Matthew 18, which you write about in Chapter 3 of the book. How is Matt. 18 mis-applied in abuse culture and how is it to be appropriately applied? (30:17) What is Tov? And how is it more than a works based goodness? (34:28) The portion that particularly struck me was how the western business model has taken root in churches. The focus has become achievement and accomplishment rather than holiness and Christlikeness. Unpack that a bit for our listeners. (42:13) As we close, what would you say is a good first step to take if you are a member of a church and are experiencing that feeling of "ugh...I think this may be happening in my church"? Quotes to Remember: "When people are confronted with their sins that are shocking, and will destroy their ministry they do certain patterns." "Good characters produce good cultures, and bad toxic characters produce toxic cultures." "If I see loyalty, constant building up, bragging about the church, and the pastor, and the musicians, I'm going to be suspicious, because they're holding people up at a level that is going to detract from Christ." "Goodness is a fruit of the Spirit. It is also a term used a lot in Judaism. But it is a term that makes Christians scared." "If you are connected to Jesus, you are connected to someone who is all together tov (good), and if you spend time in the presence of someone who's all together tov, you'll be tov-er." "We would go to these training sessions led by Bill Hybels, and he called it Fill. He wanted your section to fill. It was all about inviting people in and making sure that the seats had bodies in them." SHOW NOTES cont. If You Want To Build Lean Muscle and Boost Your Metabolism Based On Your Menstrual Cycle You Should: Reset your metabolism and increase your metabolic flexibility by burning fat for fuel rather than sugar Take ownership of your body and start listening to your intuition Eat and train in tune with the four phases of your menstrual cycle and your lifestyle Your menstrual cycle can impact your energy, metabolism, and even your creativity. So doesn't it make sense that you could leverage the four phases of your cycle to achieve optimal health and metabolic flexibility? While your body is constantly evolving every month, there are some simple ways that you can increase your metabolic flexibility, start eating for your cycle and become more in tune with your innate intuitive bodily wisdom. Leveraging Your Cycle for Optimal Health Dr. Stephanie Estima is an expert in metabolism and body composition. She is focused on distilling strategies in nutrition, movement, and mindset to actualize human potential, longevity, and achievement. She is here today to share ways to navigate your hormones' changing landscape to treat your body right. Eating in Tune with Your Cycle Hormone imbalance, your stress response system, your menstrual cycle, and your metabolism are all deeply interconnected. The truth is, all women are born with the ability to burn fat for fuel or sugar for fuel, but we are never taught how to access the fat-burning pathway. Dr. Stephanie suggests starting there and then moving to a female ketogenic diet to introduce a nutrition plan that is in tune with your menstrual cycle. Women are designed to have different needs during each of our four phases, but no woman is the same. Once you understand your natural rhythm and how long you stay in each phase, you can customize everything from your meal plan to your workout to better serve your body. In the long run, this will make you more metabolically flexible, decrease your perceived stress, and better prepare you for the hormonal changes in your present and future. Listen to Your Body As a woman, it is so important to learn how to listen to your body signals. Dr. Stephanie and I know that every woman is like a snowflake, and you have to take the time to learn how you uniquely operate. By taking ownership of our bodies, learning how to let your intuition be your guiding light, and understanding what you need for your female physiology, you can leverage your cycle to match up with your nutritional profile and start seeing the results you have been looking for. You get to choose the way you view your thoughts, your body, and your hormones. Perimenopause, menopause, and beyond can be an incredibly exciting, sexy, and fun time if you listen to what your body is telling you and honor and adapt to the changes your body is going through. Are you ready to embrace the confidence and self-love that leads to long-lasting sexiness? Share your experience with hormones, perimenopause, or menopause with me in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “That's where sexiness comes from, is the confidence, and the self-love, and the belief that you can actually make a change if you want too.” (14:47) “You are not going to be perfect; you are perfectly imperfect.” (31:24) “All women are born with the capacity to burn sugar for fuel, and the capacity to burn fat for fuel. The problem is we never access the fat pathway.” (36:39) “You just have to learn how long you stay in each phase of your menstrual cycle if you are still in your reproductive age and then adapt to it. That’s the hallmark of a sexy, empowered woman is because she knows herself. And one of the rights of passage, if you will, as a woman, is to understand how you are uniquely different. Not only just from men, but from other women.” (43:03) “The egg doesn't run up and down the fallopian tube looking for the guy wondering if he texted you, no! She is like ‘I am here. The smart ones are going to find me. I am the queen!’” (55:05) In This Episode How to reframe and honor the changes your body is going through in perimenopause (8:25) Learn about the stress response of ‘tend and befriend’ that you may not have heard of before (18:36) Tips for shifting what you eat and the way that you are eating to regain metabolic flexibility (30:30) The importance of learning how to listen and respond to your body when she is talking to you (41:24) Why you should start acting more like your eggs and appreciating the wisdom of your body (54:37) Resources Mentioned: Register for the Perimenopause and Menopause Relief Summit 4-Week Meal Plan Free Gift The Betty Body by Dr. Stephanie Estima Dr. Stephanie Estima Website The Estima Diet Protocol Follow Dr. Stephanie on Instagram Related Episodes: Essentially You Episode #244: How to Eat and Train According To Your Menstrual Cycle with Dr. Stephanie Estima Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative
In this episode of our Podcast, Bryghtpath Principal and CEO Bryan Strawser discusses the trends that we’ll see in the Post-COVID ‘New Normal’ or ‘Next Normal’. Will you be ready to lead your organization through its critical moment? Hello and welcome to the Managing Uncertainty Podcast. This is Bryan Strawser, Principal and Chief Executive here at Bryghtpath. And in this episode, I want to talk a little bit about the trends that we’re going to see as we begin to adapt to the next normal, as we begin to adapt to what we hope will be a post-pandemic world. With the vaccine now beginning to roll out, we start to see some light at the end of the tunnel, and we hope that there’s not another disaster or calamity headed our way. So we really view 2021 as a year of change and transition, as we talked about in the previous episode, about returning back to work, about the role that distributed workplaces and remote work will play for us in the coming months and year. Here, I want to talk about some trends that have really been forced on us by COVID, by the global pandemic related to COVID-19, but also some changes that were accelerated that were already in the works, that the pandemic forced us to address more quickly than we would have expected. These are some trends that we expect are going to take place, and in some cases, are already taking place. The first one is that we’re already starting to see leisure travel begin to bounce back. We’re seeing more people taking vacation, we’re seeing more people travel to vacation spots, both in and outside of the United States. And that folks really want to get back to traveling for pleasure. And we saw a celebration of this in the third and fourth quarter of 2020, but I expect that that will accelerate even more quickly in 2021, in places where the pandemic has lessened significantly, particularly in countries like New Zealand, and Australia, and China, if you’re to believe their figures. Leisure travel is back in a huge way, at least within the country, where folks are going to leisure locations. The challenge though for travel is that business travel is lagging significantly. And we’re seeing this with our own clients, where folks are saying they don’t want to travel for business until they and their families have been vaccinated, or until the pandemic has ended, which may be very connected, in terms of vaccination, helping us get to the end.

Testosterone is more important than estrogen in women. Have I got your attention? Dr. Gary Donovitz joins me to talk about testosterone replacement therapy for men and women. He explains the importance of this hormone in women and why it’s more important to focus on it before estrogen. Benefits of Testosterone Pellets Bone Density Increase Improved Brain Function Better Mood Thicker Hair More Restful Sleep Increased Muscle Function About Dr. Gary Donovitz Dr. Gary Donovitz is the founder and chairman of BioTE®️ Medical. He is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist. He has sought to provide each patient with compassionate high-quality care for the past 30 years. After witnessing how bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, or BHRT, helped one of his patients, Dr. Donovitz dedicated himself to pioneering BHRT through his work with BioTE Medical. He is an international teacher of BHRT, and his company BioTE Medical is a leading innovator in subcutaneous hormone pellet therapy. Dr. Donovitz himself has performed more than 50,000 pellet insertions and shared the BioTE method with thousands of practitioners nationwide. He is a current fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. Dr. Donovitz has spent his life- making wellness available for those that traditional medicine has often ignored, and his company, BioTE Medical, is changing the face of health care for us all. Estrogen and Testosterone for Longevity and Vitality Dr. Gary Donovitz brings his wealth of knowledge in the field of hormone replacement to talk about why so many Americans need this kind of therapy as they age. Testosterone plays such a vital role in both men’s and women’s health, and he details exactly what role it plays in the body. Over the years, hormone replacement therapy, especially estrogen replacement, has developed a bad reputation. Gary explains why this is and how modern forms of estrogen replacement are safer. As he says, not all estrogen is equal. But, while estrogen is important for women’s health, Gary argues that testosterone is actually more important - at least at first. Testosterone begins reducing earlier than estrogen. He says that it’s vital to improve testosterone levels early to improve your vitality and longevity. Symptoms and Side Effects Gary details some of the symptoms of low testosterone in women. Low mood, brain fog, and anxiousness are common symptoms. While more painful menstruation, pain during intercourse, and difficulty getting pregnant are also indications that there is some hormone imbalance. Women with PCOS who tend to have higher levels of androgens and testosterone in their younger years might be apprehensive about starting this type of hormone replacement. However, Gary assures that testosterone replacement is safe, even for women with PCOS. The only difference being that he would start pellets later in life. Americans are more likely to experience hormone imbalances than people from other continents. This is due to the number of plastics and other additives we’re faced with every day. Finally, in a moment of full disclosure, we discuss the possible side effects of using testosterone pellets. Gary explains the most common side effects, from some excess hair to increased libido in women and smaller testicles and reduced sperm count in men. As with everything, knowing the possible side effects makes it easier to make an informed decision. Have you noticed any symptoms of reduced testosterone? How have you tried to improve your hormone counts naturally? Call my practice the Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic today and schedule your first appointment at 319-363-0033 or find a BioTe provider who can help you optimize that testosterone. Quotes “Estrogen is important, not just for hot flashes and vaginal dryness, but for long-term longevity. It is an important hormone.” [11:45] “Not all estrogens are created equal. That’s the take-home message.” [17:51] “So many people think hormones are dangerous - but what if they’re not? Patients and physicians have to be reeducated because there are all these fears about hormones and whether they’re safe.” [32:15] In This Episode Why testosterone is important for men’s health [9:00] What role testosterone has in women’s health [13:15] What effect different forms of estrogen replacement have on the body [17:00] Why testosterone matters more at first than estrogen [20:00] Some of the symptoms of low testosterone in menopause [21:00] How testosterone impacts women with PCOS [27:30] Why American women have more hormone reduction than women on other continents [43:50] Possible side effects of testosterone replacement therapy [50:00] Links & Resources Use code ESTROGENDETOX for 10% off Dim Use code LIVERDETOX for 10% off Core Restore Visit My Clinic, the Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic, to find out more about testosterone pellets in Iowa. Quotes to Remember: “I was brought up in a Christian home, we have a wonderful spiritual legacy. My grandparents were missionaries in Haiti for 46 years….Yy parents took over the work and the late 90s.” “They [parents] maintain full custody. This is not something mandated by the state. They do not sign their children over…. They allow us to keep their children, so that they can make those changes necessary.” “If we didn’t have a support system where would we be? So many of the individuals we serve just need help. So we are able to step in and through our host families…host their children while the parents get the help that they need.” “This [Safe Families for Children] isn’t foster care.” SHOW NOTES cont. If You Want To Start Transitioning From Perimenopause Into Menopause With Ease and Grace You Should: Keep your body and muscles moving and get in where you fit in Reduce your toxic load and prevent the harmful effects of environmental toxins on your body through essential oils Use nutrition to stabilize your hormones and detoxification Set boundaries and utilize the self-care time that is non-negotiable for you Ask for help, say no to what does not serve you, and create a morning ritual for you Have you ever felt misinformed or uninformed about the changes that your body is growing through during perimenopause and menopause? You are not alone, as there are millions of women just like you who are trying to navigate their bodies during their 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and beyond with little to no help or understanding. How To Embrace Hormone Changes Naturally I believe that every woman deserves to know how their body is working and what these hormonal changes mean, and how you can embrace this new stage of life with ease and grace. Perimenopause can start in your mid-to-late 30’s and last anywhere from 4-12 years. While that may seem like a daunting number, the truth is that you have a lot more control over your hormones and this hormone transition that you have been led to believe. While your body is unique and there is no way to predict how it will react to these hormone changes, there are a lot of levers you can pull to ensure that this transition is as simple as possible for you and your body. Setting Your Body up for Success Many women are allowing their bodies to pay the price for decades of feeling stressed out and doing everything for everyone all the time, which sets us up for a crazy rocky hormone transition. But, the good news is that your hormones are constantly changing and adjusting to the environment you are in, and there is a lot to enjoy in this new stage of self-discovery. By setting yourself up with the protocols mentioned in this episode, as well as the free Perimenopause and Menopause Relief Summit, you can set your body up for success as much as possible. What we do everyday dictates so much of how our body responds to life, especially during menopause and menopause. Are you ready to join in the game-changing perimenopause and menopause relief summit? Let me know which speaker you are most excited to hear from in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “No surprise that even doctors are confused about the changes that go through our bodies and the hormones that fluctuate during these transitions, leading us to feel unsupported and in the dark.” (2:41) “I think it is important that we devote some time and some expertise to this really important transition in each of our lives, because there is no escaping perimenopause!” (10:28) “It is really important that we look at what is driving a lot of these symptoms. And it is not just the fluctuation of progesterone and estrogen, there is a lot more going on behind the scenes.” (22:49) “There has never been an event like this, where we really get into the root causes and understand the ‘why’. And it’s not just enough to understand the ‘why’, it is equally as important to then ask yourself ‘now what do I do about it?’, and have solutions that you can implement.” (25:22) “If your period has been gone for 12 months, I want you to take a moment and celebrate it. You are in menopause for the rest of your life, and there is so many wonderful things about that. We have got to refrain what menopause is, and we have got to reframe this time in our life.” (27:47) In This Episode Discover what is really going on during perimenopause and menopause to make changes specifically for you (7:25) How to handle the two stages of perimenopause and what to do about your symptoms of each phase (10:52) The most important things that you can do right now to set yourself up for hormonal transitions with ease and grace (15:46) Why you need to be looking at everything behind the scenes when diagnosing your perimenopause symptoms (24:12) Easy ways to transition your body to perimenopause and menopause (28:52) Resources Mentioned: Register for the Perimenopause and Menopause Relief Summit Related Episodes: Essentially You Episode #243: What You Need to Know About the Stages of Perimenopause and How To Address Them Essentially You Episode #211: What Is the Difference Between Perimenopause and Menopause and Why Is It So Confusing? In this episode of the Managing Uncertainty Podcast, Bryghtpath Principal and Chief Executive Officer Bryan Strawser discusses returning to the office in 2021 in a Post-COVID world, what role will remote work play? Topics discussed include remote & distributed work, rethinking return to the office strategies, the pros and cons of distributed teams, data from a recent survey from McKinsey on the subject, and more. This is Bryan Strawser, principal and chief executive here at Bryghtpath. And hey, it’s February 2021 when I’m recording this episode. We’ve taken a little bit of a pause from the podcast. I think our last episode was in August 2020, and things just got really busy for us here at Bryghtpath. We’ve had to staff up, hire some new folks. I’m also a graduate student and came back to class and got really just embroiled in that second year of a master’s program, and yeah. But in any event, it’s February 2021 as we’re recording this. We’re going to be back to weekly episodes of the Managing Uncertainty Podcast moving forward. Glad all of you have stuck with us, and look forward to your feedback and thoughts, and comments along the way. In this edition of the Managing Uncertainty Podcast, I want to talk a little bit about returning to work in this new post-COVID era that we are hopefully embarking on, now that we have approved vaccines around the world. We’re starting to see mass vaccinations happen, even here in the United States. We’re starting to move forward on those vaccinations and hoping that this is us coming out of the tunnel into the light as we move forward. And so one of the things I want to talk about is this idea of virtual work and how this is going to play a significant part in our future in the knowledge economy, for knowledge workers, for folks whose work really involves using the information and knowledge that’s at their fingertips and applying that knowledge through things like IT, through call center leadership, and all of these other roles that are out there where you are able to work from home, where you don’t have
February is https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/get-involved/nedawareness (National Eating Disorder Awareness Month), and I am thrilled to bring a true expert on this topic to the podcast today, as I know we all want to raise kids with healthy self-image and body-image. https://www.zoebisbing.com/ (Zoë Bisbing) is a licensed psychotherapist with specialties in eating disorders, body-image concerns, and perinatal mental health. She holds a Master of Social Work from New York University and a certification in Family-Based Treatment from the Institute for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders. She has also completed additional training in CBT-E through the Centre for Research on Eating Disorders at Oxford. Zoe is also the co-founder of https://www.fullbloomproject.com/ (The Full Bloom Project), a body-positive parenting resource through which she co-hosts the Full Bloom Podcast and speaks to groups of parents and professionals about how to help young people develop positive relationships with their bodies. - 3 Takeaways to be a Body-Positive Parent-Health and weight are not one in the same. It is perfectly fine to value health as a family, but we need to teach our kids that you can’t tell how healthy someone is by looking at them. Many people in larger bodies are very healthy, and it’s important to point out examples of that to our kids and to ourselves to challenge our biases. Stay in your lane with regard to feeding. Body-positive parents strive to take the morality out of food and believe that all foods -- candy and carrots alike -- can fit into a healthy diet. Remember Ellyn Satter’s https://www.ellynsatterinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/handout-dor-tasks-cap-2016.pdf (division of responsibility): Parents are in charge of when, where, and what food is served...but kids are in charge of whether or not they eat it and how much they eat. It’s never too early or too late to create a body-positive home. For parents of kids of all ages, your work is really to focus on looking inward, at your own relationship with food, your body and diet culture. You have an opportunity to think about your own biases, particularly your anti-fat bias, and start to challenge some of those. Don’t be afraid to talk to your older kids about this work you are doing within yourself and telling them that you want to change the way you’ve done things in the past to be more body-positive. -Show Notes- https://www.fullbloomproject.com/ (fullbloomproject.com ) https://www.instagram.com/fullbloomproject/ (@fullbloomproject) https://www.fullbloomproject.com/bodypositiveparenting (The ABC Guide to Body-Positive Parenting) https://www.ellynsatterinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/handout-dor-tasks-cap-2016.pdf (Ellyn Satter’s Division of Responsibility in Feeding) *** -Sponsor- Many thanks to this month's sponsor, Tubby Todd Bath Co! One of the most needed but conspicuously missing pieces of the coffee shop puzzle is accountability. Both leaders and baristas need accountability in order to thrive but we neglect to put in place as a real process because we are afraid of what it might uncover in us, or in them. Today we will be discussing the two ways we tend to respond to accountability and what our responses indicate regarding our attitudes toward work and even our fit for the role itself. You don’t have to resign yourself to a loss of libido, desire, and sexual pleasure as you age. Susan Bratton, Intimacy Wellness Expert, joins me to talk about how you can start improving your hormones, increase your libido, and increase your vagina’s natural lubrication once again. You might find sexual intercourse painful because of: Lack of or Low Libido Loss of Desire Low Levels of Arousal About Susan Bratton Susan Bratton, Intimacy Wellness Expert is a champion and advocate for all those who desire intimacy and passion their whole long life. She is the best-selling author and publisher of lovemaking techniques, bedroom communication skills, and sexual vitality advice including Sexual Soulmates, Relationship Magic, Revive Her Drive, Ravish Him, The Steamy Sex Ed™️ Video Collection, Hormone Balancing, The Pump Guide, and Thrust-In-Time. You can find the Susan Bratton Show®️ on BetterLover.com, her more personal posts on Instagram, and her new sexual vitality supplements, Flow, Boost, Desire, and Drive at The20store.com. Why We Experience Pain and Dryness Susan Bratton brings her wealth of knowledge about sexual intimacy and health for a very open and honest conversation that I think we all need to hear. She starts by explaining why so many women experience pain, discomfort, and vaginal dryness as they age. Hormones absolutely play a role in your sexual health and it’s essential that you start rebuilding your reserves. Susan shares some of her preferred techniques for increasing your hormones to improve not just your sexual health, but your overall health. It might surprise you to learn it’s not just down to your hormones. Your libido, arousal, and desire are all linked to sexual pleasure. If you’re experiencing dryness or pain, Susan recommends exploring alternatives to hormone replacement therapy to improve these areas of your sexual health. How to Improve Your Libido One of the best things you can do to improve your sexual health is to take supplements. Susan shares her recommendations and explains why she actually started her own range of sexual health supplements. She says that at the very least, you should be taking a daily multivitamin. While you’re naturally increasing your body’s lubrication, you can use other types of lubricants to make sex more pleasurable for you. Susan explains what types of lubricants you should look for; her biggest takeaway is to look for ones that you can actually eat yourself - like avocado or almond oil. Susan also says why we shouldn’t use something like coconut or olive oil as a lubricant. Finally, we talk about some of the ways to improve your vaginal or penile tissue that will naturally loosen as you age. Susan explains some of the techniques she’s used, such as the V-Fit device, PRP injections, and O-Shots (and the P-Shot for men). What concerns do you have about your own sexual health and libido? Have you started eating more beetroot and leafy greens? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “Even though how lubricated we are is not correlated with how aroused we are, in our feeling in our body, it is, for a lot of us. We could be really turned on and dry as a bone if we don’t have enough nitric oxide or we could be really, really wet if we have!” [16:28] “Don’t buy any lubricant that has any ingredients that you can’t spell.” [30:05] “I had a PRP injection and an O-shot (orgasm shot) and a tear in my vagina finally repaired. Finally, between the V-Fit and the O-Shots, I was able to get my vagina back to feeling youthful and having really nice climaxes again and no painful sex.” [38:55] In This Episode Why you might be experiencing pain during sexual intercourse [8:00] Why it’s essential to optimize your hormones for ultimate sexual health [10:00] What therapies outside of hormone replacement therapy are available to help women regain their libido [11:15] What supplements you should take to increase your libido [21:00] What type of lubrication you should use [30:00] Some of the ways to repair vaginal and penile tissue [36:45] Links & Resources Use code MAGNESIUM for 10% off Magnesium Use code LIVERDETOX for 10% off Core Restore How About 38 Fascinating Facts That Supercharge Your Sex Drive? This book is about slot machines. It is creepy. By way of this book, we can arrive at a new psychological idea which Natasha Dow Schüll calls "the machine zone", but I prefer to call "dark flow". The word flow is already used in psychology to refer to Mihály Csíkszentmihályi's concept of optimal experience, in which time distorts, the sense of self disappears, and the subconscious and conscious mind work in harmony. Dark flow is similar to flow, but... for want of a better term, it's evil. Whereas flow allows us to both enjoy our lives to the fullest and grow as a person, dark flow entails the same kind of perfect absorption but with the goal of self-destruction. Both the aim and the result are an obliteration of one's life. It's like a disease that swallows all of a person's time, money, and thought; the subject craves the sense of release from reality that the flow process provides, and ultimately acquiesces to, or even seeks, the destruction of their life that follows. Death metaphors are very common in participants' descriptions of this phenomenon and their state of mind. While reading this book, I had something of a recognition of this feeling of escape, driven by a pathological desire for more flow in a fantasy world. I've had this feeling playing (and anticipating playing) computer games. I happen to have played them a fair bit as a teenager, and so the psychology of it is subjectively familiar to me. The fact that I wish to avoid their negative consequences is why I perceive technologies such as slot machines to be outright unholy. Apart from revealing a potential dark side to the otherwise much-lauded concept of flow, this book's relevance concerns its appearance in an era of addictive digital technology, particularly such that is available to and targeted at children. The analogy between a slot machine and a smartphone is hardly far-fetched. Enjoy the episode. *** RELATED EPISODES 10. Flow by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi Episodes I have done on computer games are somewhat relevant, but they generally do not look at the phenomenon of addiction, which would be most pertinent to this episode's content. In future I intend to record more episodes on the pitfalls and strange psychology of digital technology.
Transparency. We see it increasingly being used as a tool to signify responsible commerce and trade among coffee roasting companies. But what is it exactly? Are we approaching it in a meaningful way? How do we define and practice transparency in a way that will actually make the difference we want to see it make? These are questions that will get answered today as we talk with Jonas Lorenz, co-author of The Pledge. The Pledge was designed to function A common code for transparency reporting in green coffee buying. Companies that sign The Pledge agree to share publicly a fixed set of variables when reporting on green coffee purchases. The aim is to create a common standard for transparency reporting that is applicable throughout the coffee world. With a degree in political science, and 10 years in the coffee industry, Jonas dreamt of combining the ideas of the “direct trade/quality/appreciation for the product” approach of specialty coffee with the “farmer centric/ fair share of profits for all stakeholders in the industry/respect for people and planet” approach of the fair trade movement. Co-Authoring The Pledge did just that. In our conversation today we will be exploring how to meaningful define and practice transparency. We cover: Price as the foundation of transparency Approach and mindset Negative litmus test Relationships with farmers How to get started in transparency Sharing information with our customers The dire state of poverty at origin The ripple effect of adopting transparency Being honest about where you are Links: https://www.transparency.coffee/pledge/ https://www.transparenttradecoffee.org Related Episodes: 252 : Founder Friday w/ Klaus Thompson of the Coffee Collective, Denmark 153 : Exploring the Peace Trade in the Congo w/ Mighty Peace Coffee 060 : Serving the Coffee Plant w/ Hanna Neuschwander, World Coffee Research 020 Joe Marrocco : Transparency, Origin Knowledge, and Your Shop : How to approach and apply coffee origin information to enhance, not detract, from the cafe experience Need consulting? For a long time, I have been wanting to devote an episode to the mothers in our community who have gone through or are going through the grief of a divorce or a relationship breakup. If you are grieving the loss of a key relationship in your life, while also trying to manage a home and a job and be emotionally available to your children who might also be grieving, the load you are carrying might feel absolutely crushing. I want you to know that I see you, and I want 3 in 30 to be a resource of support and community for you. Our guest today is https://www.instagram.com/therapist.tracie/ (Tracie Pinnock), a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with a virtual psychotherapy practice where she works with women and couples. She helps women cope with the stress of challenging life transitions, such as breakups, dating, remarriage and navigating blended families. She is particularly passionate about helping women overcome challenges that leave them feeling stuck so that they can pursue their self-defined ideas of happiness. In the episode today, she would like to share with you some of the tools she shares with her clients in order to help them cope with and heal from heartbreak. *** -3 Takeaways for Mothering through Divorce and Heartbreak Allow yourself to grieve. We tend to associate grief specifically with death, but the reality is that we grieve any significant loss in our lives. When we struggle to acknowledge this about breakups, it prevents healing. Identify and utilize your resources. It's important to the healing process to seek out help for the things you need help with. Sit down and make an inventory of what you and your kids need right now and brainstorm some people or resources that might be able to help. Design your ideal life/parenting situation. This is the part of the healing process that is about regaining hope. Journal about what you want your life to look like, particularly in the realm of family and parenting. Friends, there is healing after heartbreak. I know it may not feel like that in the moment, but there is. I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Suneet Kaur. I’ve known Suneet for about ten years now, and I’ve always had massive respect for her work. She was my teacher for the Plant Spirit Healing Apprenticeship I completed in 2019, and I hope to learn from her again in the future. In this week’s episode, we talk about plant spirit healing: what are plant spirits, and how they can help us with our healing and personal growth. About Suneet Suneet is a trained and initiated Shamanic Practitioner. She is also a Plant Spirit Healer, Usui Reiki Master Teacher and Student Medical Herbalist. Suneet was born with the psychic abilities to see, hear, know and feel things beyond our five senses and had many psychic experiences from very early childhood. As Suneet got older she found a deep faith in God and walked with Spirit by her side for many years before life events led to her coming out of the 'psychic closet'. These events opened up a deep desire to help others and be in Service to the Divine, God, Great Spirit. This led her to setting up her practice Divine Souls in 2013 and she began offering Healing and Readings. Once she began her practice, Suneet very quickly found herself hurtling down the Shamanic Path with a very firm boot in her back from Spirit. On this path of profound personal healing and rebirth, Suneet fell in love with the Plant Kingdom. She began studying with different teachers to learn, heal and explore the wise healing magic of working with Plant Spirits. Suneet now teaches how to work with Plant Spirits for personal healing or to become a practitioner, she holds Plant Spirit Ceremonies and Initiations for those who would like to explore their own relationship with the Plant Kingdom. This is the main focus of her work. Suneet is particularly passionate about UK native and non psychoactive plant spirit medicines as a way to heal and is currently studying to become a Medical Herbalist. Hashimoto’s Disease is one of the most common causes of long-term thyroid conditions, but it’s also one of the least diagnosed. I’m joined by Dr. Anshul Gupta to talk about his special interest in Hashimoto’s and what we can do to further our diagnosis. The Best Supplements for Hashimoto’s Disease NAD L-Carnitine Co-Q10 (Dr. Gupta recommends MitoQ) Magnesium About Dr. Anshul Gupta Dr. Anshul Gupta is a Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician, with advanced certification in Functional Medicine, Peptide therapy, and also Fellowship trained in Integrative Medicine. He worked at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Department of Functional Medicine as a staff physician alongside Dr. Mark Hyman. He now specializes in treating Hashimoto’s disease and help people reverse their unresolved symptoms of thyroid dysfunction. Conventional medicine doesn’t have all the answers for a vast majority of patients suffering from Hashimoto’s diseases and that’s where a Functional Medicine model can be helpful. Dr. Gupta makes personalized Functional Medicine plans for people with Hashimoto’s to end fatigue, reduce brain fog, and lose weight sustainably. Through his 3-step process, he not only heals the thyroid but also rejuvenates mitochondria to help women with Hashimoto’s to live their life to the fullest. How to Finally get a Hashimoto’s Diagnosis Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune disease that causes your body and immune system to attack your thyroid. If untreated, it can lead to more serious and long-term thyroid conditions. Dr. Anshul Gupta talks about how this disease manifests in your body and what it means for your long-term health. While an unfortunately common disease, Hashimoto’s is chronically underdiagnosed because the markers aren’t often tested for. Because it’s often missed, more serious cases of thyroid disease show up that are often too advanced to fully cure. If you think you might have Hashimoto’s disease, ask your doctor to run these labs for you: Thyroid Hormones, Antibodies, and Inflammation Markers. Dr. Gupta talks about T3 and reverse T3 hormones and why your physician should be aware of the impact of these on Hashimoto’s disease. Healing Hashimoto’s Disease Naturally Dr. Gupta talks about what some of the contributing factors of Hashimoto’s are. Some of these you can reduce yourself, such as reducing your consumption of gluten and dairy, others might take a medical intervention. Dr. Gupta explains the relationship between your body’s mitochondria and Hashimoto’s disease. He gives some accessible ways to improve your mitochondrial connection. Finally, Dr. Gupta talks about the link between adrenal fatigue and thyroid health. One of the most important things you can do to improve your adrenals is to practice stress reduction techniques. Downtime is absolutely vital and we both urge you to train yourself to relax for your health. When’s the last time you did nothing? I challenge you to take five minutes every day for the next week to literally do nothing, then report back. Let me know how that was for you in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “If T3 is your gas pedal, reverse T3 is your brake pedal. A lot of times, people come to me saying their thyroid numbers look good, their T3 and T4 is good, why are they having problems? So I check their reverse T3, which is super high. So even though you have a good amount of T3, the functioning of T3 is hampered because the reverse T3 is too high.” [12:45 “I always tell my patients to use some destressing techniques. It can be meditations, deep breathing, cultivating a hobby, or just five minutes every day of not doing anything.” [35:46] “Magnesium is the key. Magnesium doesn’t get the limelight that it should. It’s involved in more than 300 biometric processes in our body. It’s one of the most important minerals that our body needs to function.” [38:14] In This Episode What Hashimoto’s Disease is and how it affects our body [8:00] What blood tests and markers diagnose Hashimoto’s Disease [10:00] What you need to know about reverse T3 hormones [12:00] What factors contribute to Hashimoto’s Disease [13:30] How to restore the mitochondria connection [17:30] How to improve your adrenal health [31:00] The importance of downtime [35:00] Links & Resources Use code LIVERDETOX 10% off Core Restore Take the Free Thyroid Quiz Find Dr. Anshul Gupta Online Follow Dr. Anshul Gupta on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | Pinterest | LinkedIn Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 11: Intermittent Fasting Truths With Cynthia Thurlow Episode 14: Supporting The Mitochondria With Nad And Peptides W/ Dr. Amber Krogsrud Episode 30: Soma Breathing For Longevity With Jen Broyles

If You Want To Find Your Weight Loss Code You Should: Stop believing that everything that is working for other women is also going to work for you Do a hormone test that tells you what your body is asking for and when Find a balance between a calorie-restrictive diet and a way to nourish your adrenal system and thyroid I know first hand how frustrating it can be to not know what is going on with your body. The #1 most disruptive symptom I hear from women in perimenopause and beyond is unexplained weight gain and weight loss resistance. Often times it’s a combination of hormones and lifestyle that can be the culprit, but it takes some work to figure out your unique weight loss code. You Are Not Alone in This Struggle Karen Martel is a Certified Transformational Nutrition Coach and weight loss and hormone expert. After finding stubborn weight after the birth of her first child, Karen tried everything that other women were doing but still found no success. It wasn’t until a naturopath ran a hormone lab that she realized the real source of her issues. Karen is determined to bring this knowledge to other women, and help them breakthrough weight loss resistance to find their own personal weight loss code. Through nutrition and hormone optimization, Karen is passionate about helping the millions of other women dealing with these issues figure their bodies out. The Goldilocks Protocol Almost every woman in North America is dealing with some sort of cortisol or insulin issue but doesn’t know it. When we enter our late 30’s and early 40’s, our progesterone and estrogen start to drop and can wreak havoc on our hormone levels. A common side effect of this change in hormones is weight gain, but it takes an individualized protocol to figure out what is going to work for you. Over-exercising, restricting our food intake, and trying to place a bandaid on our root cause of hormone issues is not doing you any good. You can’t lie to yourself about your health, and it is time you started listening to what your body is trying to tell you to find lasting change. Finding The Diet That Works For You As women, we are constantly bombarded with the next new diet that promises to cure all of our concerns. In reality, these fad diets are ruining your metabolism and making us suffer. Methodologies such as the ketogenic diet or intermittent fasting can work as a therapeutic way to get your hormones back on track, but they are not sustainable in the long term, especially for women. Karen recommends a primal based diet, which is easier to follow and puts you in a natural caloric deficit without all of the sufferings. While there is no magic pill to fix your root cause issues, coming to terms with that and putting the work into figuring out your personal weight loss code can have a game-changing effect on your overall health. Are you ready to get to the bottom of your stubborn weight gain and weight loss resistance? Share which of Karen’s tips you are going to implement to discover your personal weight loss code with me in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “There are so many women that are going through what I am going through. And everybody looks at them like ‘well you are not working out hard enough, you are not eating perfect enough, you are not calorie counting’. And I was like, that is the worst advice for somebody like myself and what I was going through.” (10:55) “When women start to get to this stage in their life, this perimenopausal stage in their late 30’s and early 40’s, you really need to start looking at it from this very holistic point of view.” (16:51) “We know that fasting is really hard on your adrenals. So here we have this society of overly stressed-out women who are then fasting all day long and eating a low carb diet, and many of them with undiagnosed hypothyroidism. And that low carb stress, because fasting is stress, is just putting fuel to the fire. And women are really wrecking their metabolisms when they overdo this.” (22:13) “You can use these diets as a therapeutic tool to help you reverse the insulin resistance and help you bring down that inflammation, but then as soon as possible you want to be bringing back in a lot of those good carbohydrates that are still promoting lower inflammation.” (32:04) “The sooner you come to terms with the fact that there is no quick fix, and the more you can really start to dig into what your weight loss code is and taking the time and having patience with yourself to try these different things you will figure out what is going to work for your body.” (34:14) In This Episode How to deal with weight loss resistance in perimenopause and beyond (15:04) Things that you can do to mitigate dropping estrogen levels and hormonal imbalance (17:35) Why the fad diet you think may be good for you is actually ruining your metabolism (21:21) The importance of eating to your cycle to find your weight loss code (26:20) Why hormone testing and primal diets are the best way to understand your body (32:21) Resources Mentioned: Register for the Perimenopause and Menopause Relief Summit Karen Martel Website The Other Side of Weight Loss Podcast Follow Karen on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube Related Episodes: Essentially You Episode #237: The Truth Behind Stubborn Weight Gain After 40 Years Old Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative
