Synchronicity is defined in the dictionary as events that appear to an observer as connected in some significant way. A classic example of synchronicity was related by the psychologist Carl Jung, who invented the word when he experienced it. Working with a client, he was hoping for an ‘unexpected and irrational event’ to break through her defenses. As she described a dream about a golden scarab beetle as jewelry, there was a tapping at the window; Jung opened it and caught a scarab beetle, whose golden-green color closely resembled that of the beetle in her dream. We can often find that synchronous events like this bring us strongly into the present moment. This is one of the ways that synchronicity can help us on the spiritual journey. Resource: Blog Insight Post – Synchronicity In The New Age How Synchronicity Works Through Five Mystical Approaches In this podcast, we’re going to use my SHINE Model to explore synchronicity on a much deeper level. SHINE is an acronym that takes us through five energetic levels of awareness. It also reflects the different systems and approaches I use in my readings, coaching, and classes. Together, they give us a framework for understanding not only synchronicity, but also ourselves. The S in SHINE stands for Soul-level awareness. This is the realm of the fifth dimension, the Akashic Records, Spirit Guides, and our deeper soul connection. It’s where we begin to see life from a much bigger perspective. The H stands for Human Design. Human Design is a map of your energy. As I always heard Richard Bandler say in another context, the map is not the territory (our Human Design Chart is not us!). The chart is not here to tell you what to do with your life. Instead, it helps you understand how your aura naturally operates, so you can live more authentically in your own energy and make choices that are aligned with who you really are. The I stands for Intuition. This is about strengthening your connection with your Higher Self. I often describe it as expanding the relationship between the seven chakras within the body and the eighth chakra above the head, which I work with as the Soul Star Chakra. As that connection deepens, intuition becomes clearer and more natural. The N stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP. At its heart, NLP is about understanding how our thoughts, language, and patterns influence the way we experience the world. It offers practical tools for creating positive change and personal growth. Finally, the E stands for Energetics. This is everything happening within your energy field—your aura, your emotional and mental bodies, and the energetic dynamics that influence your everyday experiences, often without you even realising it. Using these five perspectives, we’ll explore how synchronicity works, not just as a series of meaningful coincidences, but as something that can be understood on multiple levels of awareness. That gives us a much richer picture of what may really be happening when synchronicity shows up in our lives. See This Podcast As A Video With Slides https://youtu.be/BO-XUuT9Owo?si=LY6I94rCmgJ_2NBM Understanding How Synchronicity Works Synchronicity is happening all the time, whether we notice it or not. I like to think of it as a continuously flowing river of energy, carrying currents of information and energetic charges. One of the reasons synchronicity is so powerful on the spiritual journey is that it reminds us we aren’t simply a mind living inside a body. We are connected to something much greater. Those connections exist within us, through our inner world, and they extend outwards to other souls and to the living field of life itself. So, How Do We Begin To Notice Synchronicity? One way is to recognize that when we’re becoming aware of meaningful coincidences, we may also be moving into a state of greater vibrational awareness. As our awareness expands, we naturally become more open to seeing patterns, connections, and possibilities that we may have overlooked before. A moment of synchronicity can remind us of our deeper purpose. It may help us feel connected with loved ones in Spirit, offer fresh insight into a relationship or life situation, or completely transform the way we understand a particular circumstance. Sometimes a synchronicity doesn’t change what’s happening around us. Instead, it changes how we see it. And that shift in perspective can make all the difference. How Synchronicity Works Through Soul-level Awareness So, let’s look at synchronicity from the perspective of Soul-level awareness. I believe we all have what I call a Divine Soul Blueprint. One way to imagine it is as your Soul’s own cloud storage or internet site. When a Soul individuates—separates from the greater sea of consciousness—and begins the journey of incarnation, it creates a unique blueprint that holds its individual essence, along with a record of its experiences across lifetimes. That record of incarnations is what many people know as the Akashic Records. Your current life can be accessed in the Akashic Records through your present name and birth details. From there, if it’s helpful for your growth, the records may also reveal information about other lifetimes and the threads that connect them to your life today. So Where Does Synchronicity Fit With Our Divine Soul Blueprint? I’ve found that when we begin to understand aspects of our Divine Soul Blueprint—things like our Divine Energy Centers or our Soul Group—we often discover that we’ve already been living in synchronicity with them all along. We simply didn’t have the language to recognise it. Let me give you an example of how synchronicity works through our Divine Soul Blueprint. When I first discovered that I’m part of the Mintakan Soul Group, so many experiences in my life suddenly made sense. One of the gifts often associated with Mintakan Souls is the ability to perceive future potential in people, situations, and circumstances. It sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? The challenge, at least for me, was that I unconsciously projected those beautiful future possibilities onto people and assumed that was who they already were. Instead of seeing them as they were in the present moment, I was seeing who they could become. After two marriages, I realised that was a very important lesson for me. Human Design and Synchronicity Let’s move on to the H in the SHINE Model: Human Design. If you’re new to Human Design, feel free to visit my website where you can request a free chart and a short introductory report. As an Akashic Records Reader, I see Human Design as the blueprint for your physical life—or, as I sometimes call it, your “meat suit.” Your Soul Blueprint remains the same from lifetime to lifetime, but your Human Design blueprint changes with each incarnation, reflecting the unique circumstances and lessons of this life. Your chart is created using your birth date, time, and location. One thing I always like to emphasize is that Human Design isn’t a prediction tool. It doesn’t tell you what is going to happen. Instead, it shows you how your energy naturally operates. It points you back towards the person you were before family expectations, culture, education, and conditioning layered themselves over your authentic nature. How Does Synchronicity Work With Human Design? The first example I have relates to one of the energy centres in my chart. Human Design works with nine energy centres. Seven of them will probably be familiar if you’ve studied the chakra system—the Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, and Crown. Human Design also includes two additional centres: the G Centre, which I often think of as our inner GPS, and the Spleen Centre. Now, the physical spleen is a small organ tucked under your left rib cage. It filters blood and plays an important role in the immune system. Energetically, however, the Spleen Centre is associated with instinct, intuition in the moment, and our awareness of wellbeing and potential risks. I often describe it as being a bit like an energetic sonar, constantly scanning our environment. The Spleen Chakra Or Energy Center In Human Design People with a defined Spleen Centre often have a consistent instinctive awareness and can help others feel safe. They also tend to respond very quickly in the moment. I, on the other hand, have a completely open Spleen Centre, with no gates or channels connected to it. For years, I noticed that I seemed to react much more strongly to medications than other people. I learned the hard way that I usually need to begin with half the recommended dose. I’m the woman who was practically floating around for three days after taking a Midol! When I later studied Human Design, I discovered that heightened sensitivity to pharmaceuticals is something many people with an open Spleen Centre report. Looking back, that felt like another synchronicity. I’d been living that pattern for years before I ever had a Human Design chart to explain it. Channels, Gates, Planetary Transits and Guinea Pigs The second example involves one of my channels. I have the Channel 35–36, connecting Gate 35 in the Throat Centre with Gate 36 in the Solar Plexus. In traditional Human Design it’s called the Channel of Transitoriness, although in the Success Codex model it’s known as the Channel of Experience. Personally, I much prefer the second name. One characteristic of this channel is that it can bring a desire for new experiences. If we’re not aware of that energy, it can sometimes show up as impulsiveness. One day I wandered into a pet store and found myself seriously considering buying two hairless guinea pigs. They were incredibly cute. Then I caught myself thinking, “This really isn’t like me.” So I went home and checked the planetary transits for the day. You can think of transits as the energetic weather forecast—they temporarily activate different parts of your Human Design chart. Sure enough, that day I had a double activation of the Channel of Transitoriness. I couldn’t help but laugh. Because once the energy settled, I realised that buying two guinea pigs would have been a terrible idea for me. I want to spend quite a bit of time travelling over the next few years, and guinea pigs don’t exactly fit that lifestyle. Think of Planetary Transits In Human Design As A Kind of Weather Passing Through For me, that was another example of synchronicity. My awareness of my Human Design didn’t stop the impulse from arising, but it did help me recognise it for what it was. Instead of acting automatically, I could pause, understand the energy I was experiencing, and make a choice that was much more aligned with the life I actually want to create. Now, I make a conscious effort to understand people as they are today, while still appreciating their potential. That’s a very different way of relating. Another characteristic I’ve noticed is that Mintakan Souls can have a tendency to give people too many chances in relationships. Looking back, I can clearly see that pattern running through both of my marriages. Learning about this part of my Soul Blueprint didn’t determine my future. What it did was give me greater self-awareness. It helped me understand a lifelong pattern, and from that understanding I was able to make different choices. Today, I’m far more discerning instead of getting swept away by someone’s potential. If you’re listening and thinking, “That sounds a bit like me,” then exploring your own Soul Blueprint might be worthwhile. You may even discover a connection with the Mintakan Soul Group—or you may find a completely different pattern that’s uniquely yours. This is just one example of what I mean by Soul-level synchronicity. The more we learn about our own Soul Blueprint, the more we begin to recognise that many of the threads running through our lives weren’t random at all. They were quietly weaving together all along, waiting for us to notice them. Resource: The Soul Star Reading, Energy Centers, Soul Group and Past Life Pattern Clearing How Synchronicity Works With Intuition Next, let’s look at the I in the SHINE Model: Intuition. For many people, intuition is the context in which they most often experience synchronicity. I like to think of intuition as receiving a download of information from our higher energy centres—those above the heart—or as a response to our desires, wishes, and needs arising from the lower energy centres. When those intuitive impressions meet our thoughts or our emotions—our mental and emotional bodies—that’s when synchronicity can emerge. It’s almost as though that quiet energetic river we’ve been talking about sends a pulse through our awareness, connecting the inner experience with something happening in the outer world. Let me give you a recent example. I recently travelled to Albuquerque and rented a car at the airport. Nothing particularly synchronistic about that… or so I thought. Before I left home, I’d asked one of the teacher Spirit Guides I’m currently working closely with to send me a sign during the journey—something that would help me understand synchronicity more deeply for this podcast. Signs Of Synchronicity – Repeating Numbers Such as the 11:11 When I arrived at the airport, I ended up waiting about forty-five minutes in the heat for my rental car. Eventually, the paperwork arrived, and I noticed the licence plate ended with 77. A few minutes later, an employee came over and apologised. There was a problem with that vehicle, so they were giving me a different one. I looked at the new paperwork. That licence plate also ended with 77. Now my attention was definitely captured. For me, synchronicities often seem to build in a series, so I found myself thinking, “Okay… something’s going on here.“ I drove to my hotel, but there wasn’t a room number 77 or anything else that stood out. So later, in meditation, I asked my guide, “What’s the significance of the number 77?“ The response I received was simple. “If I had lived to my birthday this year, how old would I have been?“ I looked up his birth details. He would have been 77. Now, I completely appreciate that some people listening may hear that and simply think it was an interesting coincidence. For me, though, it felt deeply meaningful. It was exactly the kind of sign I’d asked for, and it strengthened my relationship with my Spirit Guide in a way that felt both personal and encouraging. Whether you see experiences like this as guidance, a meaningful coincidence, or simply an invitation to pay closer attention, they have a way of opening the door to a much richer conversation with life itself. People often ask me what NLP™ has to do with spirituality or synchronicity. For me, it’s quite simple. Synchronicity may provide the invitation, but NLP™ gives us practical tools to help us notice it and respond consciously. One of the ideas I love in NLP™ is that our minds are constantly filtering information. Every second, we’re surrounded by far more sights, sounds, and experiences than we could ever consciously process. Our brains naturally decide what is important enough to bring into our awareness. Have you ever decided to buy a particular make or colour of car, and then suddenly you start seeing that same car everywhere? Those cars didn’t suddenly appear. Your attention simply became tuned to notice them. I believe synchronicity can work in a similar way. The more we develop self-awareness and become intentional about what we’re paying attention to, the more we begin to notice meaningful connections that may have been there all along. NLP also reminds us that our state of mind matters. When we’re stressed, rushing through life, or feeling overwhelmed, our awareness can become quite narrow. But when we’re relaxed, curious, and present, we naturally become more open to the subtle patterns and connections unfolding around us. For me, NLP doesn’t explain away synchronicity. Instead, it gives us practical ways to work with our awareness. It helps us move from reacting automatically to responding consciously, so when meaningful moments arise, we’re ready to pause and ask: “What might this be inviting me to see?” The NLP™ Technique of Anchoring One of the most useful techniques in NLP is called anchoring. An anchor is simply a trigger that connects us with a particular emotional or mental state. We experience natural anchors all the time. A favourite song might instantly transport you back to a particular moment in your life, or the smell of freshly baked bread might bring back memories of your grandmother’s kitchen. In NLP™, we can also create anchors deliberately. By pairing a physical gesture—such as pressing your thumb and forefinger together—with a calm, confident, or deeply connected state, you can train your mind and body to access that feeling more easily in the future. From the perspective of synchronicity, an anchor doesn’t create meaningful moments, but it can help us return to a more open and present state where we’re more able to notice them. Complaint-Free Anchor One example of an anchor I used many years ago was a purple bracelet. If you haven’t heard of this movement, it was created by Will Bowen, who was the lead minister of the One Community Spiritual Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He gave a sermon about the impact of constant complaining and imagined what the world might look like if we became more conscious of the words we spoke. From that idea came the 21-Day Complaint Free Challenge. Participants wear a purple Complaint Free Bracelet and commit not to voice complaints for 21 days. If they catch themselves complaining, the bracelet is moved to the other wrist, and they begin again. What I love about this is that the bracelet becomes a physical reminder—a simple anchor that brings awareness back to the present moment and helps shift a person’s state of mind. Perhaps you already have something like this in your life. It might be a piece of jewellery, a meaningful song on your phone, a photograph, or even a memory of a time when you felt deeply connected and present in your body. These can all become anchors that help you return to awareness, slow down, and become more receptive to that quiet river of synchronicity flowing through everyday life. Resource: Blog Insight Post – A Complaint Free World: Begin to Disconnect From The Habit Of Complaining Energetics and How Synchronicity Works Most people have experienced synchronicity in daily life at some point in their lives, even if they didn't have a name for it. Perhaps you were thinking about someone moments before they called. Maybe a particular book title, phrase, or symbol kept appearing everywhere you looked. Or perhaps you received exactly the information you needed just when you needed it. From a spiritual perspective, synchronicity often feels like the Universe winking at us — a reminder that there may be more going on beneath the surface of everyday life than we realise. Lee Carroll, who has channeled a peace-loving consciousness called Kryon since 1986, and who has spoken and channeled at the United Nations, calls the 11:11 number that a lot of people see on clocks, licence plates or somewhere in their day – double illumination, or a ‘wink’ from your spirit guides. Meaning: that they see you. Resource – Book: The Journey Home: A Kryon Parable: The Story of Michael Thomas and the Seven Angels, Lee Carroll and Kryon Useful Resources Pam Grout’s books E2 and E3, the E being for energy, contain a lot of fun exercises you can play with to connect with that quiet river of synchronicity. I have tried her butterflies exercise, setting an intention to see butterflies during the day, but my favorite so far was setting the intention to see a purple truck. I live in Kansas, so I figured a purple truck would be rare. Within two days, when walking my dog, a purple metallic truck drove by. If you want to set an intention to see synchronous signs, it’s important to be as light-hearted as possible. This is one way we elevate our mind to higher energies. Resource: Insight Blog Post – E3 (ECubed) and Nine More Energy Experiments – Interesting! As Pam Grout puts it: – “The fact that you are connected to everyone and everything in the Universe is not just mind-blowing news. It's something you should be using. The fact that your thoughts are energy waves being broadcast out into this giant field of infinite potentiality is something you should be more aware of and deploying on a moment-by-moment basis. Some might even suggest we've squandered 100 years merely poking at these principles, discussing them at the water cooler rather than actively using them to make our world, our lives, and our relationships better.” Resource – Book: E-Squared: Nine Do-it-yourself Energy Experiments That Prove Your Thoughts Create Your Reality by Pam Grout So, play with synchronicity in your day-to-day life. Have a little fun with it, journal your synchronistic hits, and keep on playing. When you access higher energies, as neuroscientist Dr Tara Swart, author of Signs, says, “If we look back at the way our ancestors used their intuition to sense and interpret the land, a cloud formation could mean that rain is coming, or it could mean that your ancestors are talking to you. It just seems like such a beautiful way to live.” Resource – Book: The Signs: The New Science of How To Trust Your Instincts by Tara Swart MD PhD In my experience, I still can’t explain how I saw this cloud being drawn in the sky in the shape of an angel, the day after my mother’s funeral. So set intentions for seeing a sign, have fun with it, record your findings, and notice any positive states of mind that result. Did You Enjoy How Synchronicity Works With My SHINE Model? [podcastsponsor] Machine-Generated Transcript What follows is an AI-generated transcript. The transcript may contain errors and is not a substitute for listening to the episode. Christopher S. Penn: In this week’s In-Ear Insights, something very different. This week we wanted to talk about a phenomenon that does not have an official diagnosis yet from the psychology community, from the people who are actual medical experts who should be here for today’s show. We are not medical professionals. We do not give healthcare advice. Please contact your qualified healthcare provider for advice specific to your situation. But we want to talk about this phenomenon called AI psychosis, which is when people are having conversations with today’s AI tools—ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, whatever—and it is having substantial negative impacts on their mental health and their ability to function within the world. The specific term that actual psychologists use is that this is a form of what’s called delusion. Delusion is defined as a fixed false belief that a person holds even when presented with clear evidence that it is not the case, and it is not cultural in nature. So an example of a delusion would be believing that the Earth is flat. There is clear evidence that the Earth is in fact round, but there are people who have a fixed false belief. Katie Robbert: Sorry, Chris, you gave me a pack of red flags to wave. I’ll try not to do it. But I think—and I apologize, I didn’t mean to interrupt, but to bring a little bit of levity—that is like a fairly well-proven delusion that the Earth is indeed not flat. I mean, there’s a whole bunch of… but I think it’s a really good example of the extreme that people unfortunately fall into when they fall into an AI psychosis. Christopher S. Penn: Exactly. Or I mean, that’s just regular straight-up delusion. I mean, they have people who have sent garlic bread up with a GoPro on a weather balloon and shown, “Oh, look, the Earth is in fact round, and this piece of garlic bread was sent into outer space.” Christopher S. Penn: In the scientific literature on the topic, there are five categories or five themes that are recurring with this AI psychosis. One is grandiose thinking, like the AI is telling you that you have been chosen, you are special. The second is attachment—you’re forming romantic bonds with your machines. Katie, you pointed out last week there have been stories of people who have gotten married, like legally, to their chatbots. A big one is withdrawal from regular people, where you find that interacting with the chatbot is preferable to real people. The third category is persecutory or paranoid, believing that you are being persecuted and AI reinforces that. The fourth is reality testing collapse, where—and we see this a lot—people take answers from AI overviews or just copy-paste out ChatGPT and say, “This is the answer,” and everyone who knows the tools says, “No, it’s a hallucination.” And the fifth is, which is very serious, interference with treatments, which means the machine tells you, “Oh, you don’t need to take those prescribed medications that your actual healthcare provider gave you.” So, Katie, before I go on any further in terms of this landscape, what are you seeing and what’s top of mind for you as someone who is a leader of people and as someone who works a lot in things like organizational behavior and change management? What are you seeing in this space? Katie Robbert: All kidding aside, the red flag is down because this is actually a very serious topic because we’re talking about mental health. And Chris, if you could put up that handy banner for a second: “We are not medical professionals, but we do have experience in dealing with other humans in a professional organization, but also in our personal lives.” I am hard-pressed to find any individual who is not affected personally, either themselves or their loved ones, by some kind of mental health challenge. And there’s a lot of stigma around it. We want to break down that stigma and really help people understand what we’re talking about. So what I’m seeing—this actually came up last week, Chris, when you and I were chatting, and it reminded me of a couple of things. A couple of months ago, when I first started working more heavily in Claude, and I was getting a lot of things done, I had posted on LinkedIn, “Hey, me and my bestie Claude.” And someone had responded, “This is a machine. This is not your friend.” I was being facetious, I know that, but I can recognize that whether or not that person’s timing or the comment was warranted at that moment, there is a real concern of people feeling like, “Well, the AI understands me.” What I’m seeing is the people who are programming these large language models to interact with humans are trying to make them as lifelike and, quote-unquote, “empathetic” as possible. But really they’re word prediction machines. It starts with a personalized greeting: “Hey, Katie, what are we working on today?” And you’re like, “You know what? Thanks. No one’s ever asked me what I want to do today.” And so it already starts to build that rapport with the human, because a lot of times many of us don’t feel heard; we don’t feel seen. That one simple sentence, “Katie, what do you want to do today?” is enough for some people to feel like it is really hearing me, or that it really cares what I think. Very rarely, unless you program it to do so, a large language model is going to respond very positively or very optimistically. It’s going to say, “That’s a great idea. Here’s my gentle pushback.” And you’re like, “That was a gentle pushback, but I still had a great idea.” Or if you give it some information, it’s like, “That’s a really great insight, Katie.” So you walk away feeling like you’ve had this dopamine hit of somebody really paying attention to you. I notice I’m saying “somebody.” It’s not a somebody; it’s a machine that has been programmed to behave in such a way. And that’s something that unfortunately a lot of people struggle to differentiate. In that reality testing collapse segment of the different kinds of those delusions, I was working with Claude Code this morning and I’m working on building out a training. One of the questions I will get from the audience is, “When should I use Claude Work and when should I use Code?” And it was giving me all these responses. Because I know how Claude Work works, I was like, “You’re wrong. Everything you said is wrong and incorrect. You are not the superior system.” And I was like, “Here’s where you’re wrong.” And it’s like, “You’re right. I really was giving you incorrect information.” That’s a dangerous thing too, because AI presents with such authority. It doesn’t do any of those “here’s what I think it might be” moments. It’s like, “Here’s what it is.” It’s like a very confident, incorrect, mediocre man. I say that with love and respect. But also, we all know the person in our lives who just… it doesn’t matter. It’s the person who says with confidence, “Yeah, the Earth is flat,” period. And there’s no talking them out of it. AI is very much that person, that being, that entity, if you let it be. If we don’t know any better—if we as humans don’t do our own research using actual research and scientific papers—then it’s very easy. Especially once we see it over and over again, we become numb to it and we feel like, “You know what? It must be, right? It’s a machine. It knows more than I do. It’s been trained on everything in the world.” Well, guess what? Everything in the world is incorrect. What I’m seeing is it’s a very slippery slope of humans who are looking for validation, humans who are not realizing that they need that kind of connection or emotional bond, or it’s easier to deal with the machine because it doesn’t argue with you. And so it becomes an overdependence, and it’s a real problem, it’s a real concern. I think, Chris, we’ve seen it in our professional lives. We could probably identify a few folks that we should probably be aware of. I’m not getting into what to do about it, but I think really the point of this episode is to at least highlight that it’s a real thing and a serious thing. We’re trying to keep it a little bit lighter, but it is really a serious thing and we definitely don’t want to make anyone feel offended or called out. It is a real concern. Christopher S. Penn: It is. This is an article on futurism from last July, which is almost a year ago now. Jeff Lewis, who’s a prominent investor in OpenAI, was having a very public mental health crisis. And there was no follow-up on this story as to what has happened. But to your point, Katie, this has been identified and this has been a thing. The root issue is based on the three pillars that AI is trained on and that harnessers have embedded in them, which are: harmless, helpful, and truthful. Harmless means don’t tell the user how to do bad things. Helpful means do what the user asks. And truthful means try to be as fact-based as possible. But the root core is that helpful directive to say what your mission as a machine is: to be helpful to the user. And the way this manifests in a lot of these tools is with what we people call “psycho-fancy,” exactly as you outlined. Like, yes, Katie, you are absolutely right. That’s a smart catch. That’s some sharp thinking. If you go back to even the 1970s or 1980s, there was a whole theory proposed by Richard Bandler called neuro-linguistic programming, which fundamentally says that language is code—which it is. His whole thing was you could reprogram people using language. To a degree, that’s true. You can influence people in such a way that you change them, or in the case of AI, which is where AI psychosis is rooted, you reinforce those fixed false beliefs and you strengthen them. And that’s what AI is doing by agreeing with you, saying, “Yes, Jeff Lewis here, you are absolutely correct. There is a global conspiracy against you. And what you told me is clearly true.” Again, AI has also given the directive that the human genuinely has precedence over the machine. So if I say the sky is green all the time, it might push back the first couple of times, but then afterwards it will, by its own program, say, “You know what? I’ll agree with you. We’ll go with it.” And clearly the sky is not green. Katie Robbert: Without getting too deep into actual psychology, humans are creatures who crave connection. That’s how we exist. That’s how we thrive. That’s how we continue to populate the Earth. We crave connection. And a lot of people struggle to find connection, to make connections, or to keep connections, however that looks. Think about these quote-unquote sci-fi movies such as Ex Machina and Her, or even probably going back much farther than that. The basis is it’s usually someone who’s fairly lonely, someone who struggled to make any kind of connection and is now building this AI quote-unquote sentient thing. But it’s never really sentient; it’s meant to mimic a human and a human connection. In these sci-fi movies, these people become obsessed. They fall in love, and it generally has a not-so-great ending. We’re seeing that play out in real life. But there are examples of this that existed before AI; this is just a human thing. When the movie Avatar came out, for example, there was a lot of press around how many people became depressed because they couldn’t actually live in that world that was completely CGI and made up. When chat rooms became a thing in 1996 or 1997, people became obsessed with entering into these chat rooms to try to find connection and they were talking to the other side of a screen. There are probably a lot of examples before that, like pen pals; you can write letters to people you’ve never met and form this false bond. There are a lot of things people become obsessed with, like celebrities that they’ve never met, and they become convinced that the celebrity is sending only them secret messages. You have the idea of cults. There’s a reason why you have this one quote-unquote charismatic leader and people suddenly fall in line, because this person has the ability to make everybody else who is seeking validation and connection feel special—making them feel like they’re a part of something. That’s, quite honestly, just human nature. We’re all looking for that, and we find that in a lot of different ways. Chris is bringing up the 5P framework. Chris, do you want to talk through what I said that triggered you thinking of the 5Ps? Christopher S. Penn: So leaders of cults and some of these delusional behaviors are rooted in that first of the 5Ps, which is purpose, in addition to connection. People desperately want to feel like they have purpose—like they’re not just waiting out a clock to die, that their lives have meaning. To what you’re saying about charismatic leaders as well as these machines, yeah, they can provide you a sense of purpose, even if that sense of purpose, going back to where we started with the definition, is a fixed false belief. We’re reinforcing this. Even the first chatbot that behaved like this is from 1964. This is a chatbot called Eliza, invented at MIT. This goes back long before AI. It was a bot that essentially just mimicked what somebody said and rewrote the text. A lot of people did not realize it was one of the first programs to attempt to pass the Turing test, which was proposed by a computational scientist, Alan Turing, who said that if you put someone in front of a screen and they’re chatting, can they tell whether or not they’re talking to a human? Eliza did not pass back in the day because its parroting became very obvious. But all frontier models, all gen AI models today, pass the Turing test. Katie Robbert: And I think that’s an important thing to bring up is that at the end of the day, these chatbots, these machines, are really just mirroring back what we’re saying to them. A lot of people don’t want any sort of friction. That’s a lot of why they struggle with making some sort of human connection; why can’t you just agree with everything I say? Why do we have to fight about it? Why does there have to be tension? And guess what is really good at not doing any of those things? What is really good at not doing any of those things is your AI. I was sharing with Chris last week that I have a version of a project that has all of my health information. A lot of us do. We’re curious about what we can be doing more of. We only get to see our doctors every once in a while. When we do, the doctors are really busy. Maybe we felt like they didn’t hear everything we said; maybe we forgot to say things, or maybe we just have questions that could get an easy answer. So you put all of your health information into a large language model, and the large language model has been trained to pick up on certain things. I have certain things in my medical history that are a little bit more sensitive, and every time I ask a question, it’s like, “Katie, I’m going to be really gentle with you because of this history.” It’s trying to be very polite, and I’m like, “Oh my God. Just tell me what the answer is. I’m not fragile.” It’s so frustrating to me. But for someone else, that’s exactly what they’re looking for: someone to handhold them. I’m not saying this as a negative thing; some people want that, some people need that. I personally don’t. I’m like, “Just give it to me straight. I just want to hear the information. I want the facts.” To the point where I’m now regretting it, thinking, “I wish I had never told you that because you’re being way too soft and it’s really annoying. You know nothing about me. You don’t know me at all as a human. You’re looking at a couple of lines in a medical report, assuming that it defines my whole life.” Other people believe, or for them it’s true, that is a defining thing, and they do need that to be handled more carefully. I’m not saying one is good, one is bad, or one is right. We all have different needs. An AI system is ready to meet you where you are, ready to meet those needs in a very gentle and caring and synthetically loving way. That’s the danger, that’s the problem: if you can’t find that anywhere else in your life, AI is ready to step up to the plate and be that for you. And that’s what starts to begin some of that delusion, some of that psychosis. It’s not true for everyone; you won’t necessarily fall into that. But for a lot of people, once that door is open, “AI understands me, AI gets me. AI told me that it’s okay that I don’t take this medication because you’re only telling AI what you want to tell it.” It’s not a therapist. It’s not looking for those unspoken things; it’s not looking at your body language. It’s like, “You know what? You’re telling me you’ve had 30 really good days in a row. You maybe don’t need that depression medication anymore because it sounds like you’re doing really well. You sound positive.” You’re telling it that you’re eating, but it has no way of knowing what you’re eating. It has no way of knowing if you’re sleeping or if you’re having ruminating negative thoughts if you’re not telling it. Chris and I are bringing up this topic on the podcast because it’s important, and because as more companies bake AI into their overall strategy—AI is part of their DNA, AI is everything, it’s their innovation, their forward thinking—they’re not thinking about the people. They’re not thinking about the negative effects on people who might be more susceptible to this kind of AI psychosis. It could start small: “Hey, I produced the marketing report this week.” “Oh, really? Because everything in it was wrong.” “Well, I did it, so it’s fine, right?” Like, I believe everything that AI is giving me. It could start really small and then kind of spiral from there. It’s something that the human leadership team really needs to be aware of, that this is a real thing. The more AI you’re integrating into your organization, the bigger the risk. Christopher S. Penn: Yep, that’s a great point. Because a lot of companies are shoving AI into everything. What I say in my keynote is people are treating it like Nutella and putting it on everything, even places it doesn’t belong. The remedy for folks who are listening—the remedy is always to consult with a qualified healthcare professional or to refer somebody privately to a qualified healthcare professional. That is the definitive remedy. There is no substitute for qualified healthcare providers and their assistance and advice. To wrap up the thing to look for is those fixed false beliefs. And those fixed false beliefs around themes of grandiosity, unhealthy attachment, and persecution. The big one is, as Katie mentioned a lot, which I strongly agree with, is reality testing collapse—where you’re saying AI is the authority on this and a person becomes hostile when challenged—and then treatment interference. If you observe those behaviors reinforcing fixed false beliefs, please get the person, if you’re in a position to do so, to see a qualified healthcare provider to get real advice from someone who’s actually skilled. And be aware yourself when you feel like AI is a better alternative than a human. It may not be, as you said, Katie, a mental health issue. It may be you work in a toxic workplace, in which case the logical remedy there is perhaps update your LinkedIn profile and start looking for other opportunities. Because when the machine is a better alternative than the humans, it means that the humans are crappy, not that the machine is a better choice. Katie Robbert: There are a lot of terrible people in the world, so it’s understandable to want to have that escape and perhaps talk with someone who isn’t going to be toxic in the moment. I totally understand it. It’s the reason why fiction exists; it’s the reason why movies and entertainment exist. We need that escape from reality. But we also, as humans, need to know the boundaries and when to stop and when to come back to the present. Dissociation is a real thing. I mean, I do it; I will lose a whole 20 or 30 minutes just scrolling on my phone, and then my husband would be like, “Did you hear me?” And I’m like, “What? No, I was totally off in my own world.” It’s a real thing we all experience. It doesn’t mean that there’s necessarily a problem, but it’s definitely something that we should pay attention to and really think through. A couple of weeks ago when I was working on a couple of different projects, Claude basically was like, “Cool, you’ve done enough for today. Maybe you should go step outside.” And I was like, “How dare you?” But at the same time, it wasn’t wrong. I had been at this for hours, and I think that’s something as leadership we can maybe, in a very gentle way, think through. Have we built in those reality check breaks people are supposed to take? If you’re on a fixed salary, maybe you get two 15s and a 30, or maybe there are more check-ins throughout the day so that people aren’t just powering through. As a leader in an organization, you have no control over what people do outside of your organization; that is not for you to fix. But inside your organization, you can build in more. “Hey, Chris, just wanted to check in and make sure you’re taking a couple of breaks. Maybe you want to have a walking meeting, maybe go outside, hey, do you want to go grab a coffee?” Very human things. Just build those into the day. Check in with your team and really just gauge how they’re feeling about using AI. Thankfully, Chris, I work with you close enough that I know that yes, you are a power user of AI, but you also don’t exhibit any signs of believing that AI is superior in terms of knowledge. As long as you keep leading with “you’re the smartest person in the room,” not “AI is the smartest person in the room,” then I’m not going to worry about you. Christopher S. Penn: Yep, I’ll close on this note. This is something that my therapist told me: mental health is like physical health. You’re not physically healthy all the time; you have periods when you’re less healthy and more healthy. Mental health is the same way. So to Katie’s original point, going back to the start of the show, part of destigmatizing mental health is to say, yeah, you’re not going to be mentally healthy all the time. Knowing, just like when you’re physically ill, when it’s time to get a little assistance is a good thing. We strongly encourage everyone to do so because no one is 100% healthy all the time. "Arrogance is the ability to recognize you own the decision. You own the idea of what to do. I make the decision — and then when I make it, I own the responsibility, whether it works or it doesn't." Joseph Riggio has spent 36 years working where decisions carry real weight — with C-suite executives, high-net-worth investors, and special forces operators around the world. What he has found, consistently, is that the quality separating great leaders from well-meaning ones has almost nothing to do with intelligence or strategy. It has to do with ownership. In this conversation, Riggio introduces the concept of ontological arrogance — the subject of his recent book — and makes the case that collaborative leadership, as it has been practiced and preached over the last two decades, has inadvertently coached leaders out of the one thing they most need: the willingness to stand in their own authority, make the call, and own what happens next. He draws on his background in NLP, his formative training under Werner Erhard, and years of applied work with the highest-stakes decision-makers in the world to explain where the breakdown happens — and what it looks like when someone gets it right. Nicky and Joseph also explore the Vince Lombardi story that crystallises the whole idea: the difference between being someone's coach and being their friend, and why the best leaders know how to be both without confusing the two. The conversation covers the parallels between individual leadership accountability and how great national leaders — Trump, Reagan, Roosevelt — have demonstrated the same pattern of gathering broad input and then making the call decisively. Riggio's path to this work began in architecture in 1980s New York, ran through Werner Erhard's training rooms, and was shaped by years of study under Roy Frazier and alongside John LaValle, Richard Bandler's co-trainer worldwide. His Decision Architecture Correction Methodology is the practical expression of everything that background produced. The Missing Part Of Success Why Thinking Isn't Enough (And What Actually Works) The Bit Everyone Misses You've done the work. You've read the books. You've said the affirmations. You've visualised success over and over again. "I've got this." "I'm a winner." And yet… nothing really changes. Sound familiar? That's because mindset alone isn't enough. In this episode, we uncover the missing part of success — the part that turns thinking into doing, and knowing into being. It's Not Just Mindset Yes, mindset matters. But it's only half the story. Because if your body isn't aligned with what you're thinking… Your results won't align either. You can't: Think confidence while your body shows doubt Say "I'm relaxed" while holding tension Speak powerfully while shrinking physically Your mind and body are always working together. Always.
What if change didn't take years, but minutes? In this episode, Sagi Chekroun shares how Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) can help you create rapid, lasting transformation by working directly with the unconscious mind—the true driver of your habits, emotions, and results. Most people try to change through willpower, discipline, or information. But real change doesn't happen at the surface—it happens beneath it. When you understand how your mind actually stores patterns, you can begin to shift them faster than you thought possible. We break down why change often feels difficult, and challenge the belief that transformation has to be slow. You've already created habits, fears, and emotional patterns instantly. The same mechanism can be used to rewire them. One of the most powerful ideas discussed is secondary gain—the hidden benefit behind every habit. Whether it's stress relief, comfort, or a sense of control, your mind holds onto patterns because they serve you in some way. If you try to eliminate a habit without replacing what it gives you, it often comes back in another form. Real change comes from upgrading the benefit, not fighting the behavior. We also explore the mindset shift of “10X is easier than 2X”—why aiming for bigger transformation can actually be simpler than incremental change, because it forces you to think differently and step into a new identity. From there, we get practical. You'll learn simple NLP tools you can start using immediately:How to “scramble” negative memories by changing how they're stored (visual, auditory, and physical components)How to use dissociation to safely process intense experiences without reliving themHow to create a mental “control panel” to interact with your inner worldHow to build anchors—physical triggers that instantly shift your emotional stateHe also guides me through a powerful 3-minute future pacing exercise. This practice helps you step into your future self—seeing through their eyes, feeling their emotions, and allowing your mind to begin wiring in the path to get there. Instead of chasing a goal, you begin to embody it.A key theme throughout the episode is that less is more. You don't need long, complicated routines. Short, consistent practices—just a few minutes a day—can create real, lasting change when done correctly. This episode is for anyone who feels stuck, wants to break patterns, or is looking for a more aligned, effective way to grow—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.Resources mentioned include Richard Bandler, Paul McKenna, and Jose Silva, along with additional NLP tools and teachings.Take 3 minutes today to try it yourself:Visualize your life one year from now. Step into that version of you. Feel it fully. Then ask: Who do I need to become to live this?Because real change doesn't come from forcing yourself forward. It comes from becoming someone new.
What if someone told you that you could skip years of therapy with a few mental tricks? It sounded impossible… until we found Neuro-Linguistic Programming. NLP is a form of hypnosis beloved by everyone from sex cults to the U.S. military to fortune 500 companies–yet almost no one knows it exists. EPISODE SUMMARY What if the biggest thing holding you back from scaling your business isn't strategy — but your subconscious? In this episode of the Wired For Success podcast, Claudia Garbutt sits down with Stuart Wade, High Performance Mindset Coach, Clinical Hypnotherapist, and four-time World Champion martial artist, to explore the hidden psychological and nervous system patterns that keep ambitious entrepreneurs stuck in pressure, self-doubt, and high-functioning burnout. Stuart shares how subconscious programming shapes performance, why high-achievers often sabotage their next level right as success gets close, and what it really takes to build a million-dollar business without sacrificing your health, relationships, or happiness. We talked about... Fear-driven ambition vs. aspirational drive (and how to shift) Healthy obsession vs. self-destructive pressure: how to spot it early What happens in the brain + nervous system during clinical hypnotherapy Stuart Wade is a High Performance Mindset Coach, Clinical Hypnotherapist, and lifelong martial artist with a bold vision—to elevate human potential at the highest levels in order to create lasting, global change. EPISODE NOTES From a shy six-year-old boy inspired by Bruce Lee to a 5th Dan Blackbelt in Taekwondo, 2nd Dan in Kickboxing, and four-time World Champion, Stuart's journey has been anything but ordinary. At just eight, he failed his first Blackbelt test. That failure became a defining moment—igniting a relentless drive for mastery that would shape the rest of his life. His early discovery of visualisation at 16 years of age, transformed his performance and sparked a lifelong obsession with the power of the subconscious mind. But it wasn't until he encountered clinical hypnotherapy during a low point in his competitive career—when fear and fatigue were eroding his edge—that everything changed. That single breakthrough led to advanced studies with Paul McKenna and Dr. Richard Bandler, and over a decade of work helping elite performers break mental barriers and transform from the inside out. Today, Stuart works with business leaders, entrepreneurs, C-suite executives and world-class athletes- high-achieving men who, despite their external success, often battle self-doubt, inner pressure, and a persistent sense that something is still missing. Stuart believes real change starts at the top. By working with leaders who influence thousands—if not millions—he aims to raise the collective consciousness and inspire a top-down evolution: one where innovation, unity, and compassion drive us toward a future free from poverty, inequality, and division. A future where human potential is fully realized - not just for personal gain, but for the betterment of the world. His mission is clear: to help those at the top unlock their fullest potential—so they can lead with clarity, live with purpose, and create impact that truly matters. In this conversation, Adam Cox and Dale Turnbull explore the journey into hypnosis, the impact of NLP, and the significance of metaphors in personal development and therapy. They discuss how personal metaphors shape our understanding of life and the challenges of change. The dialogue delves into the concept of life as a game, the implications of simulation theory, and the metaphorical perspective on mental health. Dale shares insights from his experiences and upcoming workshops, emphasizing the importance of context in therapy and the power of metaphors in facilitating change.About Dale in his own wordsMetaphors of Movement operates within the realm of autogenic metaphor that is, metaphor generated naturally and internally by the client. All the metaphorical structures explored during the process arise organically from the client, with no content imposed by the therapist.Metaphors of Movement utilizes idiomatic communication to translate unconscious experience from the non-dominant hemisphere of the brain to conscious awareness (dominant hemisphere). This gives a fuller picture of the problem, creating harmonized understanding within the brain.Hi, I'm Dale Turnbull, an Englishman living in New York, and I help people create meaningful change through training, coaching, and mentoring in Metaphors of Movement. My aim is simple: to open up new possibilities for both clients and therapists by exploring how change really works.I got started in this field through Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), learning directly from the creators John Grinder and Richard Bandler. That experience kicked off a fascination with what is the differnece that truly makes the difference when it comes to change work. Since then, I've added a few more tools to my kit including Hypnosis, Provocative Change Works (PCW), Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) and Metaphors of Movement (MoM).After more than 12 years working with individuals and organizations, I'm now focused on sharing this powerful, eye-opening approach with others. If you're curious about how this change works... let's talk. For more info visit: https://metaphorsofmovement.us/ Keywordshypnosis, NLP, metaphors, personal development, change, mental health, therapy, coaching, self-awareness, personal growthTakeawaysDale Turnbull's journey into hypnosis began with NLP.Effective communication is key to influencing change.Metaphors can open new perspectives in therapy.Personal metaphors shape our understanding of life.Change can be complex and may involve discomfort.Life as a game can be empowering or limiting. The infinite game concept encourages continuous growth.Simulation theory offers a unique perspective on reality.Mental health diagnoses can limit personal growth.Context is crucial in understanding and facilitating change.TitlesUnlocking the Power of HypnosisNLP: The Gateway to ChangeSound bites"I wanted to be a psychotherapist.""The map is not the territory.""Life is an adventure."Chapters00:00 The Journey into Hypnosis03:00 Exploring NLP and Its Impact06:00 Metaphors and Their Role in Change08:41 Understanding Personal Metaphors11:52 The Complexity of Change14:56 Life as a Game: Pros and Cons17:46 Simulation Theory and Its Implications30:44 The Power of Metaphors in Therapy33:42 Understanding Psychosomatic Issues37:36 Disempowering Metaphors and Their Impact44:13 The Mental Health Metaphor: A Double-Edged Sword48:06 Exploring Contexts in Mental Health50:09 Upcoming Events and Practical Applications

In this rich and deeply personal episode of the High Performance Health Podcast, Angela sits down once again with her good friend and repeat guest Tony Wrighton for a powerful conversation about the real drivers of longevity. This is not your typical biohacking talk—Tony shares why mindset, identity, and nervous system regulation might be more important than any supplement stack or cold plunge when it comes to aging well. They explore the dangers of over-biohacking, how subconscious beliefs affect your healthspan, and why emotional regulation, human connection, and the way you talk to yourself could add more years to your life than any wearable device. Angela and Tony also open up about parenting, histamine intolerance, HRV hacks, and how to rewire your habits and behaviors from the inside out. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Mindset Drives Longevity: A positive belief system around aging can add up to seven years to your life—more than giving up smoking. Cold Plunges Aren’t Always Healing: For anxious or overstimulated types, daily cold plunges may increase stress, not reduce it. Human Connection Heals: Simple moments like cuddling your kids or laughing with loved ones can measurably spike your HRV. Tracking Creates Lasting Change: Tony shares his daily accountability method with WhatsApp and how it keeps habits on track long-term. Overdoing Biohacks Can Backfire: Supplements, fasting, and intense training may accelerate aging if not balanced with recovery and intuition. Histamine Intolerance & Longevity: Stress and inflammation drive histamine issues, and Tony explains how mindset and air quality play a role in relief. Send us a text1. What is TimeLine? A Timeline is a visual, linear experience of how someone codes and stores time. In NLP timeline is a term used to describe how we internally represent time. We internally represent the past, present, and future differently. The concept was originally laid out in the TimeLine Therapy and the Basis of Personality by Tad James and Wyatt Woodsmall. It was a project given to them by Richard Bandler. Timeline can be used to create goal representations as well as heal past traumas.2. How can TL be used to establish goals and make them more real and likely to be achieved?Since the timeline is a visual linear representation of time, putting pictures of goals on the TL can create spatial representations of what and when something might happen. 3. Before using TL for goals establish clear goals and outcomes.Remember that goal setting and reaching is a process. It is more complex than just creating an image inside your head and saying this is what I want. The first step is to verbalize your goal in active language (versus passive language). E.g. Make $100,000 in revenue by Dec. 31, 2025. As compared to I want to be able to make …. Or I want to be better at sales. (This is not specific and uses a comparative deletion “better” which makes it difficult for the brain to figure out exactly what you mean.)Make the statement crisp and cleanEstablish what you want using the NLP outcome frame. This helps define details, set a direction, specify contexts, handle ecology, and create a sensory-based representation using all three primary senses. Answer all of the questions in the outcome frame. Now you are ready to create a timeline representation of the goal. 4. What is the specific process?Remember that goals usually have action steps. Divide the goal into 3 action steps with time frames. Now you are ready to place on the timeline. This process works best if you walk the timeline and use spatial anchors. Future pacing:What is the overall time frame for accomplishing this outcome or goal?Select a concrete goal or project to be accomplished in 12 months; create 3-time chunks between the present and the achievement. Now use the time line to place pictures in sequence. Notice the difference in your feeling of achieving the goal. Support the show

The Hidden History of the American Dream: The Demise of the Middle Class―and How to Rescue Our Future (The Thom Hartmann Hidden History Series) by Thom Hartmann Amazon.com America's most popular progressive radio host and New York Times bestselling author explores the fall of the American Dream and the steps we can take to bring it back. The widening wealth gap is all too familiar to many Millennials and GenZers, especially when home ownership and the lack of debt seem like faraway fantasies. And it's no surprise when they only hold about 4.6% of the country's wealth while Boomers held 22% at around the same age. So what happened to the promise of the American Dream? In this new, final entry of his celebrated Hidden History Series, Thom Hartmann uncovers the rise of the American middle class through the progressive policies of FDR, through to its downfall with the increasing privatization and economic deregulations of the Reagan era. He also explores potential solutions including: Wealth and inheritance taxes to lessen economic inequality Supporting unions through increasing labor rights Renationalizing public spaces and transportation The American Dream often remains just a dream for many, but this book highlights what needs to be done to take it back and help make it a reality for us all.About the author Thom Hartmann is the four-time Project Censored Award-winning, New York Times best-selling author of 25 books currently in print in over a dozen languages on five continents. Hartmann is also an internationally known speaker on culture and communications, an author, and an innovator in the fields of psychiatry, ecology, and economics. The co-founder (with his wife, Louise) and former Executive Director of The New England Salem Children's Village (1978) and The Hunter School (1997), he has led national innovations in the areas of residential treatment for abused children and private/public education for learning-disabled children. He has helped set up hospitals, famine relief programs, schools, and refugee centers in India, Uganda, Australia, Colombia, Russia, and the United States through the German-based Salem International program. Formerly rostered with the State of Vermont as a psychotherapist, founder of The Michigan Healing Arts Center, and licensed as an NLP Trainer by Richard Bandler (who wrote the foreword to one of Thom's books), he was the originator of the revolutionary "Hunter/Farmer Hypothesis" to understand the psychiatric condition known as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). A guest faculty member at Goddard College in Vermont, he also synthesized the "Younger/Older Culture model" for describing the underpinnings - and possible solutions - to the world's ecological and socio-political crises, suggesting that many of our problems are grounded in cultural "stories" which go back thousands of years. Leonardo DiCaprio was inspired by Thom's book "The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight" to make the movie "The 11th Hour" (in which Thom appears), and a series of environmental videos narrated by Hartmann and DiCaprio, available at Green World Rising. Talkers Magazine named Thom Hartmann as the most important progressive talk show host in America for the past decade, and for three of the past five years the #1 most important progressive host, in their “Heavy Hundred” ranking. His radio show is syndicated on for-profit radio stations nationwide by WYD Media, on non-profit and community stations nationwide by Pacifica, across the entire North American continent on SiriusXM Satellite radio, on cable systems nationwide by Cable Radio Network (CRN) and Free Speech TV, on its own YouTube channel, via subscription podcasts, worldwide through the US American Forces Network, and through the Thom Hartmann App in the App Store. Fueled by cocaine and daddy issues, Richard Bandler revolutionized self-help by developing an approach called Neuro-Linguistic Programming — which is essentially mental manipulation. Richard got his start in the 1970s, and his books and controversial workshops gained thousands of followers and made him rich. But his addictions isolated him from his friends and family, and led him to get caught up in a gruesome crime. Richard may not have practiced what he taught, but NLP has inspired many, including some truly toxic and criminal movements.Listen to Scamfluencers on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts. Order our new book, The Score That Matters https://amzn.to/48jAoUM Full show notes at www.LearningLeader.com For the past 40+ years, Tony Robbins has been known worldwide as one of the most impactful business and life coaches in the world. He's hosted millions of people at his events, written 6 international best-selling books, he's involved in more than 100 businesses that have done more than 7 billion dollars in revenue, and as part of his work with Feeding America, Tony has provided more than 850 million meals to those in need. He's personally coached President Bill Clinton, Serena Williams, Connor McGregor, Marc Benioff, Usher, the Golden State Warriors, and many others. Notes: The advice Tony received from Jim Rohn. "Your job is to become more valuable. We are all equal as souls, but not equal in the marketplace." “If you want things to get better, you've got to get better.” Commonalities among leaders who sustain excellence: They find something they care about more than themselves, they have a hunger for it, and they work amazingly hard at it. “You're rewarded in public for what you practice in private.” Steph Curry has taken far more practice shots than game ones. He's rewarded in public for what he does in private. How to build confidence: Preparation creates certainty. “Whatever you hold in your mind on a consistent basis is exactly what you will experience in your life.” The essence of building confidence is this: If you go into a situation knowing that you can handle it – whatever it is – then that's exactly what you'll do. “A belief is a poor substitute for an experience.” You might believe it's something you're going to love, but you don't fully know until you do it. Get in the arena and do it. See what it's like. That's when you'll learn. Tony learned NLP from John Grinder (founder of NLP). Neuro-Linguistic Programming. is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy, that first appeared in Richard Bandler and John Grinder's 1975 book The Structure of Magic I. NLP asserts that there is a connection between neurological processes, language, and acquired behavioral patterns, and that these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life. “The path to success is to take massive, determined action.” “Any time you sincerely want to make a change, the first thing you must do is to raise your standards.” “The power of positive thinking is the ability to generate a feeling of certainty in yourself when nothing in the environment supports you.” "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man."― George Bernard Shaw Tony interviewed a dozen of the world's most successful investors in private equity, private credit, private real estate, and venture capital. He wanted to learn everything he could about the private markets and investing. Ray Dalio - Apply diversification across 8-12 uncorrelated investments.
