I get asked about matchmaking recommendations a lot. But not only did I have no one to recommend, I honestly didn't even know if I liked the concept...until I met Sarah Louise Ryan. Sarah is an international matchmaker from the United Kingdom who I formed a bond with earlier this year. I like her approach because she combines the practical with the intuitive. So with her focus on outer work and my focus on inner work, our combined approaches actually complement each other well. In fact, this episode serves as an introduction to her and a way for you to see if you like her style and energy before we hold our joint workshop in September. Today, Sarah talks about how she matches her clients and what all's involved in matchmaking, including the four biggest dating mistakes people make. 6:31 - The #1 thing Sarah's learned about matchmaking, dating, and relationships 9:08 - Some advice for those who have a shopping list of attributes they seek in a partner 11:18 - What Sarah's matchmaking company does, how it works, and how to apply 22:42 - The biggest dating mistakes Sarah sees her clients make 26:26 - The best way to approach dating disappointments, rejections, and failures 30:27 - Giving you a little taste of what Sarah and I will talk about in the September 19th workshop I hope you enjoyed this episode! Sarah's lifelong obsession with Dartmouth as well as her fascination with the challenges that faced her mother's generation of women in the early '70's sparked the idea for this historical novel, which she wrote after spending seven years on a previous one that garnered her an agent but never sold. We discuss how she reached out directly to bookstores once the pandemic hit, the long tail of book promotion, and the difficulty of judging which marketing techniques really affect book sales. Sarah McCraw Crow grew up in Virginia but has lived most of her adult life in New Hampshire. She's a graduate of Dartmouth College, Stanford University, and Vermont College of Fine Arts. When it comes to fiction writing (and reading), Sarah is obsessed with women's lives and the drama of family life. She also loves the Seventies. She lives on an old farm in New Hampshire, and when she's not reading or writing, she's probably gardening or snowshoeing (depending on the weather). Find Sarah on Instagram: @sarahmccrawcrow. Do you remember being called a "Good Girl" as a child and beaming in delight over the praise and reinforcement for a job well done? Listeners we're back this week with Sarah Farzam.Sarah is the Founder and CEO of Bilingual Birdies Sarah is half Mexican and half Iranian and grew up speaking Spanish, Farsi, and English. She’s from L.A. and graduated from UCLA with a BA in English. From there Sarah moved to Mexico City and later NYC where she taught high school and waited tables for a year before getting the idea to start her own educational company when she was only 24 years old. A lover of music, language, and culture, her intention was to create a space to celebrate diversity with children. In 2006, with zero business experience, Sarah launched Bilingual Birdies, a foreign language and live music program for children up to age six in NYC after months of passing out fliers in public playgrounds which yielded a total of three enrolled students (two of which were her twin nieces). She bootstrapped every step of the way and even invested her own saved-up tip money to start. Soon after she became the recipient of the Lenovo Heart of Business Entrepreneurship Award ($25K prize) as well as the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition ($20K prize). After completing Goldman Sach’s 10,000 Small Businesses Program, Sarah began to set the framework to build an online platform that would help her expand nationally. Today Bilingual Birdies teaches Spanish, French, Mandarin, and English to thousands of children per week across 21 cities in the US, Canada, and Australia through their online training program which certifies and licenses bilingual and educators to launch their own Bilingual Birdies businesses in their own city. Enrolled families benefit from original Bilingual Birdies products such as bilingual ebooks, music albums, and the most adorable bird puppets you have ever seen in your entire life. Under the leadership of Sarah, Bilingual Birdies educators have traveled to Guanajuato, Mexico to volunteer and perform in the children’s section of La Calaca Festival. They have also journeyed to Paris, France to train early educators on how to implement their methodology to teach English to children in a fun and musical way. Most recently they traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to volunteer at Little Ray of Hope, an informal preschool in Kawangware, the country’s second-largest slum. Nearly 13 years after Sarah started Bilingual Birdies she is more motivated than ever to identify bilingual educators with an entrepreneurial spirit who are looking to share their language and culture with children, make money doing what they love, and transform their communities to encourage future generations of global thinking, open-minded humans. This episode is brought to you by Righteous MamasLooking for a new podcast? We're playing with the essence of the Hierophant card in tarot. I'm talking about an interpretation of the card I really love and the affirmations I created from it to be implanted into your subconscious mind like a fast growing seed via the short healing hypnosis journey at the end of this episode. To learn more about why I'm combining tarot and hypnosis, listen to episode 36 here. Since I am simply a tarot dabbler and not an expert by any means it feels more comfortable right now for me to pull from many teachers' wisdom over the coming months for these tarot and hypnosis episodes. The short healing hypnosis for this episode is based on Sarah Faith Gottedeiner's teaching about the Hierophant in episode 16 on her podcast Moonbeaming. This is designed for you to begin to see more of the divine within you and around you in order to feel more joy, ease, wonder and supported in your daily life.Find Sarah here:Episode 16 on her podcast Moonbeaming @gottesss on instagram Listen to this episode now and then bookmark it and come back when you need to reconnect to your center and the Universal wisdom and healing it provides./ / /Thank you for listening, your emails sharing parts of your stories, and for the reviews. I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Sarah K Brandis. She's a friend of mine and I was inspired by her recent article on Medium to invite her onto the show. I've got some ambitious goals coming up with my running, and I want to be sure that I don't end up burned out from the training. While this conversation is about running, the things we discuss can apply to all types of fitness and adventures: hiking, cycling, whatever. As you'll hear in this episode, they also apply to work, business, and life in general. Sarah was a recent guest blogger on my website, and wrote a post called Solo Trail Running for Women: Staying Safe in the Outdoors. Check it out. About Sarah Sarah K Brandis is a mental health writer, enthusiastic amateur distance runner, 'elective orphan' and content marketer - although she is trying to shed that last role and simplify her life. Having cut contact with her abusive parents at age 16, Sarah's life has been an adventure filled with learning things the hardest way possible. Her latest mission is to understand and break that habit of going the long way around, and to share that journey in her writing. Find Sarah's books and more here or follow on Medium here. This week, we have the incredible Sarah Truesdell on the show. Sarah went to law school with the dream of becoming a public interest attorney and that's exactly what she did. She spent 8 years doing eviction defense and housing rights litigation and, unlike many of my previous lawyer guests, she actually loved practicing law. However, as many women find, she realized balancing her family with the demands of a legal career was near impossible. She took a break from working in 2016 to stay home with her children. While at home, Sarah dived back into her hobby of baking. Friends began asking if they could purchase baked goods and Sarah started charging. In 2018, she opened Sugar by Sarah and turned her hobby into a business. However, once COVID hit, the demand for cakes declined. After posting some Facebook Lives of her baking, Sarah was hired by her friend to host a virtual baking class. It was a hit, and her virtual baking classes have been quickly growing ever since. Her story is a wonderful example of the fact that obstacles will always be present in our path but so will opportunities.
