On the latest episode of Melodies and Menus, co-hosts Dan Clapson and Madison Olds chat with Candian country music stars Madeline Merlo and Andrew Hyatt. The CCMA Award-winning artists (separately) discuss everything from their lives in Nashville, how the American city's food scene has evolved, what Canadian treats they miss from back home and much more.
At the root of it all, Jason Blaine was born to sing, write and entertain. His love for country music has taken him to the forefront of the Canadian music scene where he has remained for over a decade. With over 12 Top 10 singles in Canada including hits such as “Country Side” and “Friends of Mine”, he has also become a craftsmen of hits for other people including Chris Jansen, Parmalee, Petric and Madeline Merlo and others. Originally from Pembroke, Ontario, Blaine moved to Nashville in the fall of 2006 with his wife Amy and their three-month-old baby girl. He burst onto the scene in a big way in 2007 with his first #1 hit single “Rock In My Boot” which led to multiple CCMA nominations and paved the way for a string of hit singles and major festival appearances across the country. Perhaps the biggest game changer came in 2012 when he released the biographical “They Don't Make ‘Em Like That Anymore”, which was written for his grandfather. The song was one of his biggest hits connecting with fans of all generations and eventually went on to win CCMA Single of the Year that same year. In between releasing hit songs and co-headling tours with Tebey, Chad Brownlee and Deric Ruttan, Blaine also found time to start up his annual Jason Blaine Celebrity Charity Golf Classic. Over the past five years, fellow artists and hockey legends ranging from Dallas Smith, Tim Hicks, and Gord Bamford, to Doug Gilmour and Bryan Murray have all contributed to helping raise over $500,000 for various hometown charities in Pembroke. Now, a multiple CCMA, SOCAN & CMAO award winner with over 20+ radio hits, six full length albums, over 12 million digital streams, and Jason still feels like he's just getting started. Writing full time within Nashville's publishing community, Jason resides in Hendersonville, Tennessee with his wife Amy and their four children. This past summer the next chapter began as he began work on his brand new album, which was produced by Jay Tooke. The project breathes new life while lending itself to what Jason does best; great country music performed by one of Canada's most distinctive voices, telling stories of home, love, and nights on the town. As a craftsmen of songs, Jason found and wrote songs for the project which embody his artistry and move him into the next season of his career.

From his blue collar roots working at the age of 8 years old in a fish plant in Newfoundland, to roughing it on oil rigs, the experiences lived by Country artist Brad Saunders are the scenes and life stories from which his music is derived. Once you’ve experienced the unique sound and style that he brings to the table musically, it is immediately apparent that he was born to be a musician. He proudly credits his father for passing on music to him at a young age. In fact, some of Brad’s earliest memories are of his father strumming his guitar to put Brad and his brothers to sleep at night. In this act, the stage was set early on and would become the foundation of Brad’s musical pursuits. Over the last year, Brad has spent a lot of his time working in Nashville, writing with some of the towns most reputable song writers such as: Phil O’Donnell, Bruce Wallace, Ole Publishing, and many others. Brad is currently in development with Jeff Ojeda of Chief Music Management: Florida Georgia Line, Chris Lane, Dallas Smith. Brad has also sparked the interest of award-winning producer Jeff Johnson (Wes Mack, Madeline Merlo, Dallas Smith). They are currently working on Brad’s future album. You'll hear Brad's new song "Cut To The Chase" as well a special song he wrote and recorded for Fort MacMurray, Alberta called "Bring On The Rain."

“At 14 I booked myself into a studio and recorded a demo and it was sent to a producer in Nashville. He liked it and I flew back and forth to Nashville a few times. So Nashville was the very first place I ever made music in a studio,” Toronto's Meredith Shaw explains. “And I know I have come back to this place very naturally. Every moment of putting these new songs together has felt right. I just feel very at ease and at home.” Her passion for country music was rekindled over the past few years through writing trips back down to Nashville, working with The Stellas and Carolyn Dawn Johnson - among others. Meredith's debut country single is called Better Than This - a song she co-wrote. “For much of the past couple of years most of the people I was writing with, talking with, and dealing with on a regular basis were in country music. I know I am in the right place,” she said adding that she has always been drawn to female singers who not only had powerful voices but powerful personalities, regardless of their genre citing the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Stevie Nicks, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride and fellow Canadians Shania Twain and CDJ as key role models. Songwriter/producer Jeff Johnson has been brought in to produce the music that will eventually become Meredith’s debut country music album. His track record with breakthrough acts like Wes Mack, and his writing credits with Dallas Smith, Madeline Merlo and Small Town Pistols impressed her. Meredith is the host of the top-rated weekend radio show in Toronto on boom 97.3, a model with a number of successful national campaigns to her name, a business owner of a gift and custom greeting card company, and a philanthropist who started the Girls Who Believe Festival to help girls and young women reach their fullest potential through affirmation and mentorship.
