Rob McNelley is one of the very few "first call" session guitarists in Nashville, TN. In part 1 of 2, we discuss his musical upbringing in Ohio, his move to Nashville, working as a touring guitarist, and how he began to get called for studio work . McNelley recalls how his playing on Lady Antebellum's chart topping hit, "Need You Now," single-handedly launched his recording career. Why is it so important to have not only parents, but also other positive influences around our daughters? Those influences being other authorities who will not just accept them, but be willing to help rescue them when they aren't able to accept or rescue themselves. Your daughter is even more precious in God's eyes than in your own. All the more reason to be willing and equipped to fight for her. Throughout her decade-plus career as a songwriter, recording artist, and author, Plumb has found success in a myriad of genres, selling over half a million albums and millions of singles sold and streamed worldwide. Her music has been a favorite with music supervisors, having her songs included in dozens of ad campaigns, movies, and TV placements. Her career achieved an incredible milestone with her prophetic, bestselling 2012 album, Need You Now. This groundbreaking album was followed by its corresponding memoir, Need You Now: A Story of Hope, that chronicled the miraculous restoration of her marriage. These projects were followed by the 2015 breakout album, Exhale, and her 2017 EP, God Help Me. Now, with her 8th studio album, Beautifully Broken, Plumb launches as an independent artist, releasing the album on her own label, as the first component of multiple creative projects. Produced by Jeremy Redmon (Big Daddy Weave), the 11-track album showcases a powerful theme of releasing shame and trusting God's love, amidst our flaws and insecurities. How to Fulfill Your Daughter's Need to be Rescued I mentioned earlier that girls want to be rescued. They really do want their moms, dads, and future husbands to be willing to fight for them—for the sake of their honor and well-being. When our girls grow up and become wives and mothers of their own, they'll want their husbands and kids to fight for their honor and well-being just like they want us, as parents, to fight for them right now. That's just how most females are wired. You've heard the saying a million times, “Don't you be talking about my momma!” You've also heard the multitude of jokes about what dads are capable of doing to any guy who tries to dishonor his daughter. Generally speaking, God has simply wired us this way, because girls are special. We all have value, but, that value is largely unique to each gender. Men are usually more the aggressor, provider, and protector types. Women can do all these things too, but I stand by the argument that, generally speaking, men are more wired-up and built for it. Women are usually the more compassionate, nurturing, and agreeable gender. As an aside, there is no real distinction between sex and gender—that's a terribly misguided human construct that has done more damage to confused kids, and today's society, than I can talk about right now. There is a continuum of personality traits where some boys show more feminine traits than others, and vice versa with girls. But, they're still boys and the girls are still girls. That doesn't mean there's a point where one end of this “gender continuum” should be allowed to betray what chromosomes and anatomy clearly identifies as sex and/or gender. My wife was a tomboy, and her records in high school track still stand to this day, but, she's still the epitome of femininity at the same time. She's agreeable, compassionate, and nurturing—almost to a fault. The consummate mother. Her priorities, however, are in league with a biblical world view. Her kids are not the most important thing in her life, and neither am I. I'm glad my wife has another man in her life, and his name is Jesus. Even still, you don't dare mess with her kids. Though she'd die to defend, protect, and rescue her kids, she still wants a man to rescue her, if the circumstances merited it. I'm not saying that circumstances can't dictate when a man actually needs or wants to be rescued—just ask any guy who's ever been lost at sea or pinned down in a foxhole on the battlefield.

Lady Antebellum Lady Antebellum blend contemporary country with soulful '60s R&B into an infectious brew that relies on the trio's rich harmonies and impeccable instrumental skills. The trio was formed in 2006 by Charles Kelley (brother of singer/songwriter Josh Kelley), Hillary Scott (daughter of Grammy-winning country artist Linda Davis), and Dave Haywood, and soon graduated from dive bars to the Grand Ole Opry. Their 2009 single "Need You Now" became the first of many hits to reach not just the country Top Ten but the pop Top Ten as well. The group formed when Scott met Kelley and Haywood in Nashville, and after a few months of performing around the area, they signed with Capitol Nashville in 2007. Lady Antebellum's first single, "Love Don't Live Here," peaked at number three on the country charts. A self-titled debut album followed in April 2008, featuring production from Victoria Shaw and Paul Worley and stocked with more country hits (including the chart-topping single "I Run to You," which also enjoyed crossover success as a Top 40 pop hit). Lady A has sold over 18 million records and have released their new album Heart Break—their sixth release and first new music since 2014’s 747—the multi-platinum-selling group mapped out a liberating approach. It’s not as if they were slacking during the hiatus (Kelley released the Grammy-nominated The Driver, Scott won two Grammys for her faith-based project Love Remains, and Haywood produced and wrote with several developing acts), but they always knew they would get back to making Lady A music. The question was how. “We knew we wanted to take that break to be with our families and chase some new creative paths,” says Haywood. “But even during that time, I remember Charles saying ‘Guys, let’s figure out how to use this time as a way to really dig into this next record, make time to do nothing but create music together. How do we come at it in a totally different way?’“ So the trio embarked on a new mission—setting aside time to put themselves in new surroundings, and concentrate on writing and exploring musical possibilities with no distractions. They rented a house in Florida, living and working under the same roof, and when the experiment proved successful, they set up a second retreat in Southern California. We took some of our favorite writers and some writers we hadn’t worked with before to a new inspiring backdrop, where we were able to just write and soak up the process.” Even more crucially, along the way, the members of Lady Antebellum were able to dive into their relationship as friends. “We’d wake up and Dave would have cooked breakfast and it was amazing,” says Kelley. “Making drinks and staying up talking until 3 in the morning—we hadn’t gotten to do that in forever.” “Being together every day, living in a house together, that was the special ingredient this time,” says Haywood, while Scott adds, “We’ve always been close, but we got to reconnect even deeper into our friendships, and that was really priceless.”

In this episode, I interview CCM artist Plumb.Plumb has sold more than 500,000 albums and over 2 million singles worldwide. She writes music for herself and for other artists.She is an author as well. She tells the story of God's redemption of her marriage in a book titled "Need You Now."Each record Plumb has recorded has a unique sound that connects to whatever she was facing at that point in her life. Music has a way of freezing time. “It really captures the emotion.” Plumb says when she recorded “Exhale” she was coming off a time when God performed a huge miracle in her life.Plumb said she later realized her husband, Jeremy Lee, felt he could not communicate with her. “I didn’t make an environment where I could hear constructive criticism. At the same time, he did choose to keep quiet. Evil used that to disconnect him from me emotionally.” Plumb stayed busy with their children and Jeremy felt it was cruel to place his burdens on her. Jeremy is now an advocate for husbands to find a way to communicate their feelings. “I should have told a counselor or a friend,” Plumb said. “I should have asked them to pray for me.”In the time leading up to her husband leaving her, Plumb says she was so unaware of the state of her marriage. Women can get trapped in doing things for other people and lose themselves after having a baby. Plumb had three babies in a short period. “We still had date nights and swore we would not be that couple.” But they were fooling themselves, she said. “I was selfish and unaware.” Her husband was selfish and uncommunicative. A couple days after Christmas he hit bottom and left.Plumb said she was turning to God during that time but still trying to control Jeremy. She felt divorce was inevitable. She did not talk to Jeremy in a loving tone. She reached the point where she surrendered to God and felt forgiven. She was willing to change for God, not to change to get Jeremy back. Her husband came to notice a change in her during their interactions and that gave him hope.Now that her marriage is restored, Plumb credits God and her giving Him permission. “He doesn’t need permission but He wants us to want Him to do what He wants to do. We get in the way. I have now experienced what getting out of His way is like; it’s terrific.”

Look for this new production to kick off July twelfth at the Calgary Stampede and then hit at least twenty cities across America before wrapping in September. Good things seem to come in “Platinum” for Miranda Lambert. From her hair color to her wedding ring to the color of her Airstream…it’s all about her lifestyle. Not to mention her four platinum albums. This is also the title of Miranda’s new album, which hits stores June third. She co-wrote the first single “Automatic,” which was Miranda’s highest-charting first week single at radio, so this album is already getting off to a “Platinum” start. The Oak Ridge Boys are celebrating the release of their very first live project this week. “Boys Night Out” features many of their classic hits performed with their flawless four-part harmonies. The group has one double platinum album, three platinum albums, and twelve gold, so they don’t have to live by the charts, but just want to continue making great music. As part of a ten-year cultural exchange program, 33 million online music, art and video submissions were cast to determine musical selections to be broadcast from the Chinese space station. Most clips selected were from China, but three non-Chinese songs were also selected. Brad Paisley’s “Southern Comfort Zone,” Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now,” and American Young’s “Love Is War” all made the cut, and were broadcast from space to all the schools in China.
