Alyn McCauley joins the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast! But before we get to San Jose Sharks great and current Philadelphia Flyers' assistant general manager McCauley (46:42), Sheng and Keegan chat about the latest Erik Karlsson news and how Sharks prospects performed at the World Junior Summer Showcase.Karlsson talk is hot this weekend because the Pittsburgh Penguins are currently in the midst of their second buyout window (1:45). However, GM Kyle Dubas isn't a fan of the buyout maneuver. The most popular Penguins buyout or trade candidates are Mikael Granlund (3:30) and Jeff Petry (4:30). Why is Petry an unattractive trade candidate for the San Jose Sharks and an unattractive buyout candidate for Pittsburgh? How about the Carolina Hurricanes? Could they still be in the Karlsson hunt even after signing Tony DeAngelo (7:55)? Sheng thinks so. Also, their cap and contracts situation is way better than Pittsburgh's (11:00)Keegan and Sheng share their predictions about what happens with Karlsson during this Pittsburgh buyout window (15:00)Next, Keegan and Sheng move on to how the San Jose Sharks performed at the World Junior Summer Showcase (25:00).How impressive was Will Smith for Team USA (26:10)? Does Keegan think that Quentin Musty will start the season with the Sharks (30:05)? Eric Pohlkamp opened a lot of eyes at the WJSS (33:05). Did Cam Lund struggle a bit (35:00)?Going outside of the US, Filip Bystedt stood out again for Sweden (37:25). How about his teammate Mattias Havelid (39:55)? And why were Kasper Halttunen's struggles different than Lund's (41:05)?Which Sharks prospect had the best tournament? The worst? Keegan ranks all the prospects (42:50).Now, Alyn McCauley (46:42)!McCauley talks about the challenge of getting traded for two franchise icons, the Toronto Maple Leafs' Doug Gilmour and San Jose Sharks' Owen Nolan (47:30). He shared an embarrassing story about the first time that he faced Gilmour in Toronto.McCauley breaks down his best NHL season, 2003-04, when he was a Selke Trophy finalist and the San Jose Sharks made the Western Conference Finals. The Sharks were a surprise team that season, what clicked for them (52:45)?How about for McCauley, what came together for him that year (1:01:08)?Why did Alexander Korolyuk leave for Russia after the 2003-04 campaign and never come back (1:03:30)?McCauley talked about slowly taking the reins from veteran Vincent Damphousse (1:05:26), in his last season, throughout the year, and how great a leader that Damphousse was.McCauley also shares why he told head coach Ron Wilson to make Patrick Marleau the captain of the San Jose Sharks (1:07:15). He also defends Marleau's playoff record. How did Miikka Kiprusoff remind McCauley of Curtis Joseph (1:10:47).Moving onto 2005-06, McCauley shares his memories of the night that the Sharks traded for Joe Thornton (1:12:58). At that point, McCauley and Jonathan Cheechoo both had seven goals on the season. He laughs about how much more Cheechoo outscored him for the rest of the year (1:14:45).McCauley breaks down who was tougher for him to defend, Marleau or Thornton (1:16:30)?He opens up about the knee injuries that ended his career prematurely (1:19:46). McCauley played through injuries in his last Sharks season.McCauley talked about Dean Lombardi's impact on his career (1:26:38).McCauley chats about his new role as Flyers AGM (1:31:12). He's survived three Flyers regimes, Ron Hextall, Chuck Fletcher, and now, Danny Briere (1:35:00).Why have the Flyers finally declared a rebuild (1:37:07)? It's noteworthy how transparent that Philadelphia has been about their rebuild.McCauley ends with a couple thoughts about the Flyers selecting Matvei Michkov (1:42:00).Listen to the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast — it's a new link — on Apple Podcasts and Spotify and Google Podcasts.Subscribe to the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast YouTube channel, we're trying to get over 1K subscribers! ★ Support this podcast ★

At the root of it all, Jason Blaine was born to sing, write and entertain. His love for country music has taken him to the forefront of the Canadian music scene where he has remained for over a decade. With over 12 Top 10 singles in Canada including hits such as “Country Side” and “Friends of Mine”, he has also become a craftsmen of hits for other people including Chris Jansen, Parmalee, Petric and Madeline Merlo and others. Originally from Pembroke, Ontario, Blaine moved to Nashville in the fall of 2006 with his wife Amy and their three-month-old baby girl. He burst onto the scene in a big way in 2007 with his first #1 hit single “Rock In My Boot” which led to multiple CCMA nominations and paved the way for a string of hit singles and major festival appearances across the country. Perhaps the biggest game changer came in 2012 when he released the biographical “They Don't Make ‘Em Like That Anymore”, which was written for his grandfather. The song was one of his biggest hits connecting with fans of all generations and eventually went on to win CCMA Single of the Year that same year. In between releasing hit songs and co-headling tours with Tebey, Chad Brownlee and Deric Ruttan, Blaine also found time to start up his annual Jason Blaine Celebrity Charity Golf Classic. Over the past five years, fellow artists and hockey legends ranging from Dallas Smith, Tim Hicks, and Gord Bamford, to Doug Gilmour and Bryan Murray have all contributed to helping raise over $500,000 for various hometown charities in Pembroke. Now, a multiple CCMA, SOCAN & CMAO award winner with over 20+ radio hits, six full length albums, over 12 million digital streams, and Jason still feels like he's just getting started. Writing full time within Nashville's publishing community, Jason resides in Hendersonville, Tennessee with his wife Amy and their four children. This past summer the next chapter began as he began work on his brand new album, which was produced by Jay Tooke. The project breathes new life while lending itself to what Jason does best; great country music performed by one of Canada's most distinctive voices, telling stories of home, love, and nights on the town. As a craftsmen of songs, Jason found and wrote songs for the project which embody his artistry and move him into the next season of his career.

He had zero love for Toronto's associate GM duo of Ken Dryden and Mike Smith. Former teammate Mike Bullard felt a little too welcome at Jamie's house, even using his bathroom in the middle of the night. Lanny McDonald was always late for everything. Things got a little tense in Toronto when the Leafs acquired so many former Flames and Oilers and Jamie was NOT going to share a room with Glen Anderson. Toronto definitely wasn't an easy place to play when things weren't going well. And what happened in Jamie's post-NHL career that saw him get not one but two bank deposits for $16 million??? To most people, when an athlete gets injured and steps off the playing field, we throw our hands in the air and figure that's the last we'll see of them for a few weeks. But it's precisely at these moments when people like this week's guest, Chris Broadhurst, decide to shine. Chris Broadhurst has been working in the field of sports medicine for over 35 years, and during that time he has served as the head athletic trainer for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Phoenix Coyotes, and has worked with the NHL All-Star Teams as well as Team Canada in multiple world tournaments. We wanted to bring him on to get his unique perspective on the ways in which athletics, preventative, and rehabilitative training has changed and improved over the years. The technology, knowledge, and resources at the time Chris worked with athletes like Wendel Clark and Doug Gilmour's injuries were drastically different from those available to teams now, but at the core of it all remains the practice of ensuring the health and safety of the warriors who perform day in and day out. In the early 90's when the Leafs were riding high to playoff success with players like Doug Gilmour, Peter Zezel, Dave Andreychuk, Glen Anderson and Felix Potvin a young long time Leaf fan and aspiring rapper named Omer Ozden, or maybe better known by his rap name ‘Young Offender', wrote a song about the all-time greatest Leaf play by play announcer, Joe Bowan. The song was titled the Joe Bowan Rap. The song gained traction and success being played on radio, even hitting the HMV charts and being heard by Joe Bowan himself who reached out to interview Omer at the time. The song was rereleased the following season with all proceeds going to Sick Kids in Toronto. Since then, Omer has traveled and lived all over the world and had a very successful career outside of rap music but has always kept his eye on the Blue and White. He joins Chad and Dale in this episode of the Tip In to talk about the song, the 90's teams, today's Leafs team, the pain of last season, how he sees this season, how to turn up the heat, who may score a tip in game 7 winner and more.  On this episode of Beyond The Melody, Brian speak with Canadian country star Jason Blaine! Now, a multiple CCMA, SOCAN & CMAO award winner with over 20+ radio hits, six full length albums, over 8  million digital streams, and Jason still feels like he's just getting started. Writing full time within Nashville's  publishing community, Jason resides in Hendersonville, Tennessee with his wife Amy and their four children. This past summer the next chapter began as he began work on his brand new album, which was produced by  Danick Dupelle (Emerson Drive, Tebey).
