At the root of it all, Jason Blaine was born to sing, write and entertain. His love for country music has taken him to the forefront of the Canadian music scene where he has remained for over a decade. With over 12 Top 10 singles in Canada including hits such as “Country Side” and “Friends of Mine”, he has also become a craftsmen of hits for other people including Chris Jansen, Parmalee, Petric and Madeline Merlo and others. Originally from Pembroke, Ontario, Blaine moved to Nashville in the fall of 2006 with his wife Amy and their three-month-old baby girl. He burst onto the scene in a big way in 2007 with his first #1 hit single “Rock In My Boot” which led to multiple CCMA nominations and paved the way for a string of hit singles and major festival appearances across the country. Perhaps the biggest game changer came in 2012 when he released the biographical “They Don't Make ‘Em Like That Anymore”, which was written for his grandfather. The song was one of his biggest hits connecting with fans of all generations and eventually went on to win CCMA Single of the Year that same year. In between releasing hit songs and co-headling tours with Tebey, Chad Brownlee and Deric Ruttan, Blaine also found time to start up his annual Jason Blaine Celebrity Charity Golf Classic. Over the past five years, fellow artists and hockey legends ranging from Dallas Smith, Tim Hicks, and Gord Bamford, to Doug Gilmour and Bryan Murray have all contributed to helping raise over $500,000 for various hometown charities in Pembroke. Now, a multiple CCMA, SOCAN & CMAO award winner with over 20+ radio hits, six full length albums, over 12 million digital streams, and Jason still feels like he's just getting started. Writing full time within Nashville's publishing community, Jason resides in Hendersonville, Tennessee with his wife Amy and their four children. This past summer the next chapter began as he began work on his brand new album, which was produced by Jay Tooke. The project breathes new life while lending itself to what Jason does best; great country music performed by one of Canada's most distinctive voices, telling stories of home, love, and nights on the town. As a craftsmen of songs, Jason found and wrote songs for the project which embody his artistry and move him into the next season of his career.

Quebec's Justine Blanchet drops by the podcast to share hew new single with us! While Justine divides her time between her native city of Montreal and Nashville, “Hard to Love” represents a lot of notable Nashville firsts for her. It's her first collaboration with hitmaking Nashville producer Danick Dupelle (Emerson Drive, Tebey, Tyler Joe Miller, Matt Lang), her first single to be produced in Music City, and the upcoming music video was also filmed there. This single is also the first release from her debut EP that will drop in 2023. She'll be returning to Nashville in the fall to finish it. Written by a trio of noted songwriters - Courtney Cole, Derrick Southerland, and Kelly Archer – “Hard to Love” offers an inviting country flavour crossed with modern pop in its examination of love that's just out of reach. “Hard to Love” follows eight past single releases for Justine – including 2019's “Strong” (over 175K streams on Spotify) and 2021's “Get Out of the Mud” (#4 on CBC Country/Sirius XM) – and live show highlights like the Festival Country Lotbinière, the Gatlingburg Songwriter's Festival, Big Valley Jamboree, the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, and a pair of Diamonds in the Rough showcases during Canadian Country Music Week.

On this episode of Beyond The Melody, Brian speak with Canadian country star Jason Blaine! Now, a multiple CCMA, SOCAN & CMAO award winner with over 20+ radio hits, six full length albums, over 8  million digital streams, and Jason still feels like he's just getting started. Writing full time within Nashville's  publishing community, Jason resides in Hendersonville, Tennessee with his wife Amy and their four children. This past summer the next chapter began as he began work on his brand new album, which was produced by  Danick Dupelle (Emerson Drive, Tebey).

Steve recounts his winding path from musician to a corporate job and then into artist management. He offers a refreshing perspective and mind for the music industry and in this conversation, he discusses his belief that artists should actually focus more on the fans they have than on growing their fanbase, and that they should also focus on providing value for their audience rather than on “how can I monetize my audience?” Then, after his chat with Steve, Mike then shares the wonderful conversation he had with Canadian producer, platinum-selling singer-songwriter, and four-time CCMA nominee Tebey (34:40). Tebey first came to prominence as a songwriter for both pop and country artists. His pop credits include One Direction, Fifth Harmony, Flo Rida, Cher, and more. No slouch in the country music arena, Tebey has been nominated for four Canadian Country Music Awards, including Album of the Year for his 2018 hit EP, Love a Girl, and his hit single “Denim On Denim” was recently was certified platinum and he nabbed a gold certification for his co-write for “Just Got Paid” by Emerson Drive. He and Mike chat about writing his new album, ‘The Good Ones,’ the differences between writing country and pop songs, coming of age in the music industry, the fun and hassles of co-founding his own record label, dealing with the uncertainty of the near future, and more.

Tebey shares his new music ("The Good Ones" w/ Marie Mai) and his up and down journey to a healthy life.    Tebey is a Canadian artist, producer, and songwriter currently residing in Nashville, TN.  He has secured three #1’s as a writer - a #1 Billboard US single with Justin Moore’s “Somebody Else Will”, a #1 in Canada with Gord Bamford’s “Dive Bar”, and his first #1 single as an artist (and writer) with his song “Who’s Gonna Love You” for which he also received a SOCAN award in March 2019. Tebey has three official top 5 singles in addition to two top 10 singles as a recording artist, and seven #1’s as a songwriter; one in the US, one in the UK, four in Canada and one in Asia. Notable pop artists to record his songs include One Direction, Fifth Harmony, Pixie Lott, and FLO RIDA. Over the past six years, three of Tebey’s singles have been noted for their substantial spin count, being named “Most Played Canadian Country Song” of both 2013 and 2014, and his recent hit, “Denim on Denim”, was the third-highest spinning song of 2018 in this category. Tebey’s latest EP, “Love A Girl”, was released in the spring of ’18, including the 2 aforementioned singles along with the EDM-laced country song, “Show You What It’s Like”, which is featured on Spotify’s Wild Country playlist (curated in Nashville).   In our conversation, we take a look at his discovery and knowing from day one, that he was destined for country music. In a short period of time, Dave Hartney has racked up an impressive list of accomplishments for a new Country artist. He has opened for the likes of Dallas Smith, High Valley, Tebey, Black Jack Billy, Aaron Pritchett, Dierks Bentley, Jerrod Neimann, Thompson Square, and many more. He has played renowned events including Sunfest, Rockin’ River Musicfest, Merritt Mountain Musicfest, The Cloverdale Rodeo, the 2010 Olympics, and at numerous fundraisers, like Gone Country. Dave’s live show is sure to impress and win over new fans. Dave grew up in North Vancouver, and re-connected with a childhood love of country music while attending the University of Saskatchewan. There, he frequently visited live music bars and watched artists passing through town, including a young Dierks Bentley performing at the campus bar. Dave began to write songs of his own on his downtime at school, and after returning to Vancouver, he began playing guitar for various artists and industry friends including Karen Lee Batten, Damian Marshall and Bobbi Smith and created his former band. One of Dave’s personal highlights was later opening for Dierks, one summer in Merritt, BC. Dave grew up influenced by classic rockers and songwriters like Tom Petty, and more recently of guitar-slinging country starts like Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, and Travis Tritt. His sound, a mix of modern country and southern rock, is being recognized as Dave was recently selected as a 2015 Top 5 BCCMA Artist Discovery Competition finalist, and his songwriting was previously recognized with a CCMA Songwriters’ Showcase. He was nominated for the 2016 Ray McAuley Horizon award by the BCCMA. Dave recentlyreleased his first single “Party Lights". The song was recorded with producer Jeff Johnson (George Canyon, Wes Mack).

Tebey, Jason Blaine & James Otto begin their exciting & electrifying Three's A Party Tour on October 30th in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The tour will continue across Canada until the end of November. For information on tickets, please visit www.tebeymusic.com or www.jasonblaine.ca. Tebey just released a new song & music video called Jealous Of The Sun. He's written songs for Emerson Drive, Aaron Pritchett, Doc Walker, and Jason Blaine. As grateful as he is for his songwriting success, Tebey never abandoned his original dream of stepping out and taking centre stage himself. “In order to be a successful songwriter you really have to focus on it, so I literally put my recording career on the back burner.” It was a necessary compromise, he says: “It just so happened that circumstances took me away from being an artist and made me focus on my songwriting in order to make a living.” Now, Country fans know Tebey as a talented and engaging hit maker with songs like Somewhere In The Country, Now I Do and When The Buzz Wears Off. Jason Blaine has just released a new album called Country Side featuring the title track single and the latest song Spotlight. He wrote or co-wrote all 13 tracks. The last two songs on the project are for his two daughters and son. “At the end of the day, when the stage lights come down and I get off the plane or the tour bus and I come home, I’m just a husband and a father,” expains Jason who lives in Nashville with his wife and three children. He won the 2012 CCMA Single of the Year for his song They Don't Make 'Em Like That Anymore - which he co-wrote with Deric Ruttan.

Burlington, Ontario Country artist TEBEY - now living in Nashville - first found success on Country radio back in 2002 with his single We Shook Hands (Man To Man). He was recognized with a Canadian Radio Music Award nomination for Best New Male Country Artist, a CMT special documenting his development as an artist and a segment on CBC Radio’s ‘Sounds Like Canada.’ The single reached # 3 in Canada and went top 40 in the U.S. but RCA didn't release the album (which featured the single) because the song didn't break the top 20. Determined to not let that setback end his music career, Tebey focused on his skills as a songwriter and soon found his songs being recorded by various artists Over the years, his songs have been recorded by Emerson Drive, Doc Walker, Jason Blaine, Chad Brownlee, Aaron Pritchett, and Big & Rich - among others. He has also had his songs recorded outside the country genre, by pop acts like One Direction, Shawn Desman and Cher. Over the last couple of years, Tebey's own albums have had great success at country radio: The Wait in 2012 featuring the single Somewhere In The Country and Two in 2014 featuring his cover of Wake Me Up and his own songs Till It's Gone & Let It Down. He recently won a CMAO (Country Music Association of Ontario) Award for Record Producer of The Year - along with producer Jason Barry - for The Wait. Tebey has just released a brand new single to radio called called Now I Do.

Country Music Made Me

Tebey is a Canadian/American Country music singer/songwriter with hits like Who's Gonna Love You, Good Jeans and Happened on a Saturday Night. Tebey joins The Music Made Me to talk about his early days growing up in Ontario Canada, winning the Canadian Open Country Singing Contest and how that turned into a development deal in Nashville at the age of 15. He then talks about his multiple moves from Nashville to Canada and the successful career he's built thanks to hard work, determination and never giving up.
