När Karl XII befann sig i Bender i nuvarande Moldavien skickade han iväg tre forskningsexpeditioner som skulle undersöka fornfynd i de bibliska länderna där Egypten och pyramiderna ingick.Orientalisten och prästen Michael Eneman, som varit med Karl XII vid Poltava, ingick i den andra karolinska egyptiska expedition under åren 1711-12. I bibeln nämns aldrig pyramiderna uttryckligen, även om det talas om stora byggnader. Svenska vetenskapsmän började att intressera sig för pyramiderna redan på 1600-talet, men de utformades mer som stora ladugårdar än pyramider – ingen hade ju sett dem. Senare avbildas de både som spetsigare och ibland flackare än de är i verkligheten.Michael Enemans resa 1711-12 gick till Grekland, Konstantinopel, Israel, Arabien och Egypten där kanske Jerusalem var höjdpunkten för Eneman som skrivit två avhandlar om Kristi grav. När senare Michel Eneman återvände till Moldavien var Karl XII så intresserad att Eneman fick berätta om sin resa och sina upptäcker en timme per dag under två månader.Intresset för Egypten utmynnade också en omfattande internationell handel med mumier. Varav flera också hamnade i Sverige. De Europese onderzoeksraad heeft vandaag een aantal flinke subsidies uitgedeeld. Onder de ontvangers van de prestigieuze beurs zitten ook Nederlandse wetenschappers. Waaronder Jos Malda van de Universiteit Utrecht en het UMC Utrecht. Hij kijkt in zijn onderzoek hoe we de geheimen van kraakbeen kunnen kraken.  Kraakbeen is een ontzettend ingenieus weefsel, maar het herstelt niet uit zichzelf als het beschadigd raakt. En omdat we met z'n allen steeds ouder worden, is het van groot belang om kapot kraakbeen goed te kunnen repareren. De groep van Malda probeert dit te doen door aan de ene kant het kraakbeen van zoveel mogelijk diersoorten te bestuderen en aan de andere kant te werken aan het namaken en bioprinten van kraakbeen. This was an ‘interim Budget' since the term of the current government will end soon and the country will go to polls. She began her Budget speech with references to the Union government's schemes in the social sectors. No changes were announced in direct or indirect tax rates, unlike in the 2019-20 interim Budget. Fiscal Deficit came in at 5.8% — a tad lower than the target of 5.9%. Fiscal Deficit target for next financial year is set at 5.1%.Jharkhand Governor C P Radhakrishnan met five legislators of the ruling JMM-Congress alliance on Thursday, a day after JMM leader and Hemant Soren loyalist Champai Soren staked claim to form the government in the state. Hemant Soren had submitted his resignation to the governor on Wednesday night, moments before his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate. While the JMM-Congress alliance had immediately proposed appointing Champai as the leader of the legislature party, the Governor had told them that he would revert after considering all legalities.Opposition leaders in Maharashtra slammed the state government and civic authorities on Wednesday, after The Indian Express published an investigation report that revealed how over the past year, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation disbursed funds amounting to Rs 500 crore only to MLAs from the ruling BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena alliance. Demanding an inquiry, the opposition parties asked whether the government considers public funds as its exclusive property.The Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday barred Paytm Payments Bank from offering all its core services — including accounts and wallets — from March, effectively crippling the company's business. The action is technically not a cancellation of the licence of Paytm Payments Bank, but it constricts the company's operations to a very large extent. The RBI has allowed the withdrawal or utilisation of balance amounts by customers “without any restrictions, up to their available balance”.Congress leader Rahul Gandhi restarted the yatra from West Bengal's Malda on Thursday and entered Murshidabad in the afternoon. The back window of Rahul's car broke on Wednesday, as thousands of people thronged Labha Bridge to see the Yatra enter the state. The Congress cried foul and initially claimed that "anti-socials" had pelted stones at Rahul's vehicle. However, the party later clarified that the window pane was damaged when sudden brakes had to be applied as a woman came in front of the vehicle. In an address before the commencement of the Budget Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Opposition MPs that it was an “opportunity to repent and leave behind positive footprints”.In Mumbai, the country's financial capital, with the civic elections on hold for two years now, the quality of infrastructure in the neighbourhood could very well depend on which party the MLA is from. An investigation by The Indian Express has revealed that under a February 2023 policy that allows MLAs to seek funds from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for civic works, each of the 21 ruling alliance MLAs sought, and got, funds till December 2023. In stark contrast, not one of the 15 Opposition MLAs (of the Uddhav Bal Thackeray Shiv Sena and Congress) got any money even though as many as 11 of them had asked for funds. The Indian Express spoke to each of the 15 Opposition MLAs to independently verify if they applied for funds, and if the Guardian Ministers approved it. Despite repeated attempts, BMC Commissioner IS Chahal was not available for comment.The back window of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's car broke today as thousands of people thronged Labha Bridge in West Bengal's Malda to watch the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra enter the state from Bihar. 1949. gada 25. martā Baltijas valstīs sākās masu deportācijas akcija “Krasta banga”, kuras laikā Padomju savienības vadība mūža nometinājumā uz Sibīriju izsūtīja vairāk nekā 42 tūkstošus Latvijas iedzīvotāju. Izsūtīto vidū bija arī ap 11 tūkstoši bērnu. Pieminot deportāciju upurus Latvijas radio šodien un rīt dzirdēsiet stāstus par izsūtījumu tieši ar bērnu acīm - kādu iespaidu uz viņiem un viņu ģimenēm tas atstāja. Šorīt par kādu četrgadīgu meiteni, kura pārcieta ceļu uz tālo Tomskas apgabalu un tur pavadīja astoņus gadus. Savāca mūs no mājām, Drustu pagasta Žagariem. Mamma nebija mājās, ar mani bija vecmamma. Tas notika dienas laikā. Ienāca mājās un mums stundas laikā bija jāsavācas. Pagājušā gadsimta vidū tolaik četrgadīgās Malda Jansones dzimtās mājas bija Cēsu rajona Drustu pagasts līdz 1949. gada 25. martā mazo meiteni ar mammu Elzu un vecmāmiņu Mīli Ķerseli padomju vara izsūtīja uz Tomskas apgabala, Malčanovas rajona Madugas sādžu. Malda pašu deportāciju procesu no Dzērbenes stacijas atminās miglaini, bet kā lielu haosu. Vecmammai tajā brīdī bija 75 gadi un viņa, protams, bija uztraukusies, kaut kādas mantas viņa paņēma, bet ļoti maz. Mamma tajā brīdī bija izbraukusi uz Smilteni un viņu paņēma ciet pa ceļam no tās Smiltenes uz mājām. Mūsu māja bija līdzās ceļam un braucot garām viņa lūgusies, lai atļauj ieiet mājās kaut ko paķert, bet tas, protams, nebija ļauts. Savukārt Maldas tēvs Jānis Jansons no ģimenes bija šķirts jau iepriekš, jo tēvu 1946. gada martā padomju vara arestēja politisku motīvu dēļ un izsūtīja uz Kazahijas padomju republiku. Malda rāda tēva bildes no viņa iesvētībām ar baltu ziedu klēpi un vēlāk jau pavisam citāda bilde ar viņu aizsarga formā.

Columbia was born and raised in Malda - a small town in eastern India. She is the second of three children born to Minati and Jai Prakash Mishra. Her parents, avid space enthusiasts, named Columbia and her siblings Apollo and Challenger after US Space Programs.After finishing secondary education from The St. Xavier's School of Malda and Salt Lake School in Kolkata, Columbia attended Jadavpur University (JU), Kolkata, India, studying Mechanical Engineering. After her Master's, Columbia worked at Makino Asia, Singapore in research and development. While away, she missed her adopted home in the USA, and chose to move back to Texas to work for Stress Engineering Services in Houston. During this period, a chance meeting with the then Director of Johnson Space Center reignited her passion to follow her dreams to pursue research and become an astronaut. Columbia joined the doctoral program in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin to specialize in Thermal Fluid Systems.With her newly earned doctorate, Columbia joined Intel's much coveted Technology Manufacturing Group in Hillsboro, Oregon. När Karl XII befann sig i Bender i nuvarande Moldavien skickade han iväg tre forskningsexpeditioner som skulle undersöka fornfynd i de bibliska länderna där Egypten och pyramiderna ingick.Orientalisten och prästen Michael Eneman, som varit med Karl XII vid Poltava, ingick i den andra karolinska egyptiska expedition under åren 1711-12. Eneman närmade sig pyramiderna i Giza som en praktisk vetenskapsman som mätte stenar och kröp in i pyramiderna.I detta avsnitt av podden Historia Nu samtalar programledaren Urban Lindstedt med Joachim Östlund, docent i historia vid Lunds universitet.För svenska bönder på 1600-talet var Egypten och historierna om Josef och Moses i allra högsta grad levande. I bibeln nämns aldrig pyramiderna uttryckligen, även om det talas om stora byggnader. Svenska vetenskapsmän började att intressera sig för pyramiderna redan på 1600-talet, men de utformades mer som stora ladugårdar än pyramider – ingen hade ju sett dem.
