China's top political advisory body has opened its annual session in Beijing. In 2025, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference received nearly 6,000 proposals and registered around 5,000 of them. The handling rate of the proposals stood at more than 99 percent.
China's "Two Sessions" is currently underway as policymakers map out the country's next stage of development amid global uncertainty. Deputies to the National People's Congress and members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference will review the government's work report and 2026 budget, while also formulating the blueprint that will shape the 15th Five-Year Plan through 2030. How will this impact the world's second-largest economy and the wider international landscape?
When China's top political advisory body and legislature convene this week for their annual sessions, the major item on their agendas will be a draft outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30). The deeper story, however, lies in how these gatherings have evolved into a mechanism through which the country's leadership translates strategic vision into operational governance and concrete results.Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping has participated in deliberations and exchanges with National People's Congress deputies and members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee more than 60 times, guiding the trajectory of China's modernization.Xi's emphasis during these meetings on high-quality development, innovation-driven growth and people-centered governance has provided a consistent policy framework that has helped China navigate a volatile global environment while sustaining growth and stability.China's GDP surpassed 140 trillion yuan ($20.4 trillion) last year, amid supply-chain disruptions and rising geopolitical tensions — evidence of a system that has prioritized resilience and structural upgrading over short-term stimulus. What distinguishes Xi's engagement at the two sessions is its granular focus. Xi has communicated extensively with NPC deputies and CPPCC National Committee members on factory productivity, rural incomes, eldercare services, environmental remediation, talent cultivation, etc. This micro-to-macro feedback loop is effective in strengthening communications between the leadership and those from all walks of life. When a steel plant manager reports that digital upgrades have raised productivity, or a community social worker describes improved eldercare services following targeted policy guidance, these examples become data points in a broader effort to recalibrate national priorities toward quality, efficiency and equity in national social and economic development.A theme emerging from Xi's participation in these discussions is the primacy of high-quality development. His assertion that without high-quality development, there can be no socialist modernization reflects an understanding familiar to economists: growth that relies on diminishing returns, environmental degradation or excessive leverage is self-limiting. By urging authorities at various levels to develop new quality productive forces while upgrading traditional industries, the leadership has sought to promote technological diffusion and industrial modernization rather than premature deindustrialization. The results are visible in multiple sectors. Artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing are reshaping production models, while breakthroughs in materials science and power equipment are reducing dependence on foreign inputs. These developments suggest a pragmatic strategy to move up the value chain while preserving and optimizing the country's manufacturing base.Xi's calls to improve talent-training mechanisms and align education with economic needs reflect a recognition that human capital is the foundation for these endeavors. The development of national engineering academies, university technology transfer centers and industry-education partnerships indicates an attempt to institutionalize this linkage. In economic terms, China is trying to internalize the spillover benefits of innovation by embedding research, production and skills development within a unified policy ecosystem.Equally notable is the sustained focus on people's livelihoods. Xi's exchanges with farmers, migrant workers, grassroots civil servants and researchers on poverty alleviation, rural vitalization, employment and eldercare underscore the people-first principle of the country's public policies. The transformation of once-impoverished villages through infrastructure, e-commerce and eco-tourism, and the expansion of community-based services for the elderly, illustrate a shift from subsistence security to quality-of-life improvements. This aligns with the goal of advancing common prosperity — which balances efficiency with social fairness and justice.Environmental policy provides another lens through which to assess the modernization agenda. The concept that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets has been operationalized through nationwide ecological restoration, renewable energy deployment and desertification control. Regions once defined by environmental degradation are now experimenting with solar power, eco-tourism and sustainable agriculture, suggesting that environmental stewardship is being integrated into local growth models rather than treated as an external constraint.Xi's engagement with the national lawmakers and political advisers at the two sessions since 2012 highlights the way in which the country aligns good governance with economic transformation and social welfare in pursuit of national modernization.

主播:Emma(中国)+ Selah(美国) 音乐: 01. Chinese-style Way of Living 中式生活方式TikTok上有许多视频用了这样的tag(标签):You met me at a very Chinese time in my life (你在我生命中“特别中国”的时候遇见了我)。这里的“Chinese”并不是指“国籍(nationality)”,更多的是一种state of life (生活状态) 或者lifestyle (生活方式)。在这些视频中,外国人的“a very Chinese time”是什么样的呢? 很多人也因此爱上(fall in love with)中国美食、网络段子(Chinese internet jokes)或者古风音乐(traditional-style music)。02. Chinese People's Daily Lives 其实更真实、更平常的“中式生活”习惯是这样的:(1)早上不吃生冷食物;(2)夏天喝绿豆汤防中暑;(3)生病时会喝粥(congee);It's not just about nutrition (营养), but also about how it makes you feel.(4)吃饭时大家共享菜品,再配点汤;(5)美剧里大家基本都是早上洗澡(morning showers),但其实在中国,人们更倾向于晚上洗澡(shower before bed)。So becoming Chinese is not about doing one thing. 这其实是一种生活节奏(a whole rhythm of life)的差异。03. Why Are More and More Foreign People Attempting to “Become Chinese”? (1)“I am having so much fun being Chinese.” 成为中国人太有意思啦!(2)“Thank you for accepting us.” (3)“This is my first day being Chinese, and everyone is being so nice.” What is your view on “becoming Chinese”?

Days after the announcement of the largest U.S. arms sale to Taiwan, the Chinese People's Liberation Army launched 'Justice Mission 2025' – the latest sophisticated military drills around Taiwan, as a stern warning to the separatist forces and external interference. Are these drills justified deterrence or sheer aggression, as often labeled by certain foreign critics? Has China abandoned its effort to seek peaceful development of cross-Strait ties? How to read U.S. President Donald Trump's real Taiwan policy?
Greetings to all! Year after year, life opens a fresh chapter. As the new year begins, I extend my best wishes to you from Beijing! The year 2025 marks the completion of China's 14th Five-Year Plan for economic and social development. Over the past five years, we have pressed ahead with enterprise and fortitude, and overcome many difficulties and challenges. We met the targets in the Plan and made solid advances on the new journey of Chinese modernization. Our economic output has crossed thresholds one after another, and it is expected to reach RMB 140 trillion yuan this year. Our economic strength, scientific and technological abilities, defense capabilities, and composite national strength all reached new heights. Clear waters and lush mountains have become a salient feature of our landscape. Our people enjoy a growing sense of gain, happiness and security. The past five years have been a truly remarkable journey, and our accomplishments have not come easily. Your unwavering hard work has made our nation thrive and prosper. I salute you all for your exceptional diligence and invaluable contributions. This year is full of indelible memories. We solemnly commemorated the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and established the Taiwan Recovery Day. These grand national events were majestic and powerful, and the glory of victory will shine through the pages of history. They are inspiring all the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation to remember history, honor fallen heroes, cherish peace, and create a better future. They are rallying a mighty force for the great rejuvenation of our nation. We sought to energize high-quality development through innovation. We integrated science and technology deeply with industries, and made a stream of new innovations. Many large AI models have been competing in a race to the top, and breakthroughs have been achieved in the research and development of our own chips. All this has turned China into one of the economies with the fastest growing innovation capabilities. The Tianwen 2 probe began its star-chasing journey to explore asteroids and comets. Construction of the hydropower project at the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River started. China's first aircraft carrier equipped with an electromagnetic catapult system was officially commissioned. Humanoid robots did kung fu kicks, and drones performed spectacular light shows. Inventions and innovations have boosted new quality productive forces and added colorful dimensions to our lives. We endeavored to nurture our spiritual home with cultural development. There was a surging public interest in cultural relics, museums, and intangible cultural heritage. A new Chinese cultural site was added to the World Heritage List. Cultural IPs such as Wukong and Nezha became global hits. The younger generation came to deem classic Chinese culture as the finest form of aesthetic expression. The cultural and tourism sectors thrived. The "super league" football games in our cities and villages attracted numerous fans. Ice and snow sports ignited people's passion for the winter season. Tradition is now embracing modernity, and the Chinese culture is shining in even greater splendor. We joined hands to build a better life and enjoyed it together. I attended celebrations in Xizang and Xinjiang. From the snow-covered plateau to both sides of the Tianshan Mountains, people of various ethnic groups are united as one, like seeds of a pomegranate sticking together. With white khatas and passionate singing and dancing, they expressed their love of the motherland and the happiness they enjoy. No issue of the people is too small; we care for every leaf and tend every branch in the garden of people's well-being. Over the past year, the rights and interests of the workforce in new forms of employment have been better protected, facilities have been upgraded to bring more convenience to the elderly, and each family with childcare needs has received a subsidy of RMB 300 yuan per month. When the happy hum of daily life fills every home, the big family of our nation will go from strength to strength. We continued to embrace the world with open arms. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin and the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women were very successful; and island-wide special customs operations were launched in the Hainan Free Trade Port. To better address climate change, China announced new Nationally Determined Contributions. After announcing the three global initiatives on development, security, and civilization, I put forward the Global Governance Initiative to promote a more just and equitable global governance system. The world today is undergoing both changes and turbulence, and some regions are still engulfed in war. China always stands on the right side of history, and is ready to work with all countries to advance world peace and development and build a community with a shared future for humanity. Not long ago, I attended the opening ceremony of the National Games, and I was glad to see Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao coming together in unity and acting in unison. We should unswervingly implement the policy of One Country, Two Systems, and support Hong Kong and Macao in better integrating into the overall development of our country and maintaining long-term prosperity and stability. We Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait share a bond of blood and kinship. The reunification of our motherland, a trend of the times, is unstoppable!Only a strong Communist Party of China can make our country strong. We launched the study and education program on fully implementing the central Party leadership's eight-point decision on improving Party and government conduct. We exercised strict governance of the Party through credible measures, and promoted the Party's self-revolution to fight corruption and advance healthy governance. As a result, the conduct of our Party and government steadily improved. We must stay true to our original aspiration and founding mission, and pursue our goal with perseverance and dedication. We should continue to give a good answer to the question on how to maintain long-term governance put forth in a cave dwelling in Yan'an and prove ourselves worthy of the people's expectation in the new era.The year 2026 marks the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan. A successful venture should start with a good plan and with clear goals set. We should focus on our goals and tasks, boost confidence, and build momentum to press ahead. We should take solid steps to promote high-quality development, further deepen reform and opening up across the board, deliver prosperity for all, and write a new chapter in the story of China's miracle. The dream lofty, the journey long-bold strides will get us there. Let us charge ahead like horses with courage, vitality, and energy, fight for our dreams and our happiness, and turn our great vision into beautiful realities. The sun of the new year will soon rise. May our great motherland stand in magnificence! May the fields across the country deliver good harvest! May our nation bathe in the glory of the morning! May you all enjoy life to the fullest, and achieve every success! May all your dreams come true!
China has held its annual Central Rural Work Conference in Beijing to map out priorities for the country's rural work in 2026 (01:10). The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army has run its second day of military drills around Taiwan, conducting long-range live fire exercises (05:33). U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have discussed breaking the Gaza deadlock (17:59).
Given Japan's colonial rule over Taiwan from 1895 to 1945, which inflicted atrocities on the Chinese people, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has nonetheless attempted to exploit the Taiwan question to provoke trouble and threaten China militarily, which is "utterly intolerable", Foreign Minister Wang Yi said. In his talks with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Beijing on Monday, Wang referred to Takaichi's recent provocative remarks in parliament about Taiwan, saying that the one-China principle is an important political foundation for China-Germany relations, and there is no room for ambiguity. He noted that unlike Germany, Japan has yet to conduct a thorough reflection in the past eight decades since the end of World War II on its history of aggression. Wadephul said Germany remains firmly committed to the one-China policy, and this position will not change. During the talks, Wang said that Taiwan has been part of China since ancient times, and he elaborated on a seven-point fact list that clearly supports this position and records Tokyo's past official commitments regarding Taiwan. The Cairo Declaration issued in 1943 stated that all the territories Japan had stolen from China, such as Taiwan, should be restored to China. Article 8 of the Potsdam Proclamation in 1945 stipulated that the terms of the Cairo Declaration will be carried out.1943年发布的《开罗宣言》明确规定,日本从中国窃取的所有领土(包括台湾)必须归还中国。 In 1945, Japan surrendered unconditionally, the Japanese emperor committed to faithfully fulfilling the provisions of the Potsdam Proclamation, and the then Chinese government announced resumption of the exercise of sovereignty over Taiwan on Oct 25, 1945.1945年日本无条件投降,日本天皇承诺忠实履行《波茨坦公告》的规定。 In 1971, the 26th session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758 to restore all rights to the People's Republic of China, and the UN's official legal opinion confirms that Taiwan is a province of China, Wang said. According to the China-Japan Joint Statement of 1972, the Chinese government "reiterates that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the PRC", and "the government of Japan fully understands and respects this stand". The 1978 Treaty of Peace and Friendship Between China and Japan confirmed that the principles set forth in the 1972 Joint Statement should be strictly observed. As a defeated nation in World War II, Japan "should have undertaken profound reflection and acted with greater caution", as this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-1945), Wang said. He also said that attempts to seek "Taiwan independence" mean splitting China's territory, and supporting "Taiwan independence" amounts to interference in China's internal affairs, which violates China's Constitution as well as international law. The Chinese people, together with all peace-loving people around the world, bear the responsibility to uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and they also have the obligation to prevent Japan from remilitarization and attempting to revive militaristic ambitions, he added. By linking the Taiwan question to Japan's 'survival-threatening situation', Takaichi and the conservative, right-wing forces behind her have stoked security anxiety among part of the Japanese public and politicians," said Wang Peng, a research fellow at Huazhong University of Science and Technology's Institute of State Governance. This helps to pave the way for further lifting postwar legislative restrictions on Japan's military buildup and escalate tension in the Taiwan Strait, he said. Jeffrey Sachs, a professor and director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University in the United States, said in a lecture at the University of South Africa last month that "China went for a thousand years without once invading Japan, a near neighbor, even though China was much more powerful. The Japanese actually sadly invaded China many times, but never the other way around," he added. Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday that during World War II, Japanese troops slaughtered more than 300,000 people in Nanjing in eastern China, killed over 100,000 in Manila in the Philippines within one month, and carried out the Singapore Massacre. Any moves to condone provocations by Japan's right-wing forces "will only lead to the resurgence of militarism" and "put Asian people at risk again", Guo said. Cairo Declaration《开罗宣言》Potsdam Proclamation《波茨坦公告》remilitarization/ˌriːmɪlɪtəraɪˈzeɪʃən/重新军事化right-wing forces右翼势力resurgence of militarism军国主义复活
Japan will "be destined to pay a heavy price" if it dares to cross the red line of the Taiwan question, a Chinese defense spokesman said on Thursday. Jiang Bin, a spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks at a regular news conference in Beijing in response to Japan's claim that a plan to station medium-range surface-to-air missiles on Yonaguni Island, about 110 kilometers east of Taiwan, was making steady progress. In addition, Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi said on Sunday that the deployment will "lower the chance of an armed attack", while claiming it would not heighten regional tensions, Bloomberg reported. At the briefing, Jiang stressed that the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair. How to solve the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese, and has nothing to do with Japan," he said. This year marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China, Jiang added. Instead of repenting its war crimes of invading and colonizing Taiwan, Japan is taking an extremely wrong approach by suggesting military intervention in a so-called Taiwan contingency," he said. This dangerous approach will uproot the post-World War II international order and lead Japan to repeat the mistakes of its militarist past, he emphasized. The People's Liberation Army has strong capabilities and reliable means to defeat any aggressors," Jiang said, warning that should Japan dare to cross the red line and invite trouble upon itself, it is destined to pay a heavy price. Jiang also criticized Japan's recent actions in the military and security fields, urging the country to fully repent its war crimes and immediately abandon attempts at constitutional revision and military expansion. Any attempt to repeat the evil path of aggression and expansion and undermine the post-World War II international order will not succeed," he said. According to Kyodo News, Japan recently exported domestically produced Patriot surface-to-air missile interceptors to the United States. It was believed to be the first export of lethal weapons since Japan relaxed controls on its arms shipments. Separately, The Asahi Shimbun reported that Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party has begun discussions on revising the National Security Strategy and two other defense documents. The review could cover the Three Non-Nuclear Principles — not possessing, not producing and not permitting the introduction of nuclear weapons — as well as a further increase in defense spending. The spokesman said it remains an "ironclad fact" that Japan was a defeated country in World War II, noting that international treaties and instruments, including the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation and the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, clearly banned Japan from rearmament. The international community must be on high alert against Japan's revisionist attempts to break away from the restraints of its pacifist Constitution in recent years," Jiang said. Japan has been seeking to do so by brazenly expanding its military build-up, drastically increasing its defense budget, expediting revisions of its security policies, relaxing weapons export restrictions and attempting to revoke the Three Non-Nuclear Principles, he added. Japan is even attempting to intervene militarily on the Taiwan question. These moves pose serious threats to regional peace and stability," he warned. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, he said. People around the world, especially those from China and other victimized countries in Asia, will never forget the catastrophe brought by Japanese fascists," Jiang said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfPTTlkWeVs Comrade Zhou Fe, Minster at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China and member of the Chinese Communist Party speaks at our celebration of the Great Socialist October Revolution. Cde Zhou celebrates the 80th anniversary of the victory over Fascism in the great people's anti-fascist War - in which the Soviet Peoples gave 27 million lives and the Chinese people an incredible 40 million lives to defeat the combined forces of German and Japanese Fascism over a protracted period of struggle that encompassed WW2. China is Socialist - and the People's Republic of China and the Chinese Communist Party have their origins in and trace their roots to the Great Socialist October Revolution, he says! The Chinese communist party and the PRC continue to grow the economy by leaps and bounds, transforming the prosperity and the lives of the working people, maintaining and safeguarding their independence and in so doing transforming the world for the greater good of humanity. We owe a deep debt of gratitude to the heroic sacrifices of the Chinese People and their lasting contribution to building toward a peaceful and stable, sustainable world. China's great green wall project is responsible for a quarter of global afforestation. China's energy consumption is becoming predominantly based upon green and carbon neutral energy (hydro-electric, photovoltaic, wind and tidal, geothermal and Solar-produced Hydrogen as well as nuclear). China's technological advance is allowing it to break the grip of the monopoly capitalists, in particular the Anglo-American and EU imperialists. China is allowing, via the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, BRICS and the Belt and Road initiative, the whole world a pathway out of financial subjection to the imperialist powers. Japan's stance on the Taiwan question has long defined its relations with China. Japan must reaffirm its commitment to the four important documents which are the bedrock of bilateral relations. However, it has purposely maintained strategic ambiguity on the Taiwan question. As a result, the Taiwan question has remained a persistent pivot, shaped by Japan's post-war legal positioning, its domestic political constraints and, above all, its reliance on the United States-Japan security alliance. After World War II, Japan accepted the Potsdam Proclamation and its requirement to restore Taiwan to China. But in practice, it followed the US-led "Treaty of San Francisco" signed in 1951, which had been signed without the participation of representatives from China. That "treaty" required Japan only to "renounce" Taiwan, without specifying its return to China. Using this omission as an excuse, Japan claimed it did not have the legal authority to define "Taiwan's status". The position was blatantly contradictory. Japan was simultaneously agreeing to adhere to the Potsdam Proclamation while relying on a so-called "treaty" that obscured what Potsdam had made explicit. This dual-track approach was driven not by legal logic, but by strategic calculation. Another key factor in Japan's Taiwan policy is the US-Japan security framework during the Cold War. During the early Cold War, the US regarded Taiwan as a critical strategic asset. As China and Japan sat down to normalize ties in the 1970s, the US was deeply concerned about how Japan would address the Taiwan question in the negotiations. Tokyo repeatedly reassured Washington that the US-Japan alliance would not be affected and that the US would have access to bases for "Taiwan-related operations". Even after normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations, Japanese officials stated that including Taiwan within the "Far East" framework served US strategic interests. After the Cold War, Japan further strengthened these security linkages. The 1997 and 2015 revisions in the Guidelines for Japan-US Defense Cooperation broadened bilateral roles in regional contingencies, widely interpreted as including the Taiwan island. Japan's 2015 security legislation tried to provide so-called "legal grounds" for supporting US military operations in a "crisis in Taiwan". In 2021, for the first time since 1969, Japan and the US issued a joint statement expressing concerns over peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.2021年,美日首次自1969年以来在联合声明中对台湾海峡的和平与稳定表示关切。The recent provocative remarks by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have severely damaged ties with China. Speaking in the Japanese Diet, she claimed that a "Taiwan contingency" would constitute a "survival-threatening situation" for Japan — the most explicit formulation ever made by a serving Japanese leader. Her statement not only breaks with Tokyo's long-standing strategic ambiguity but also signals a shift toward treating Taiwan as a core element of Japan's national security, which is a blatant violation of China's internal affairs. Japan's dual-track approach of offering political assurances to China while aligning with the US regional strategy during past US administrations has given Tokyo flexibility, but also created inconsistencies. Japan claims it abides by the Potsdam Proclamation but relies on the "San Francisco Peace Treaty", which China regards as invalid. Japan reassures China that it does not support Taiwan independence and upholds the one-China principle, yet expands the scope of US-Japan military cooperation in ways that could involve Japan in "Taiwan contingencies". However, as the Chinese leadership and the incumbent US administration reaffirm the importance of managing the Taiwan question responsibly, Japan's increasingly explicit security framing stands in sharp contrast. Rather than reducing tensions, Tokyo's new rhetoric risks injecting additional uncertainty into an issue that the world's two major countries are actively seeking to stabilize. Fortunately on Nov 24, President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation in which the Taiwan question was a central focus. President Xi elaborated on China's principled position, stressing that the restoration of Taiwan to China is an integral part of the post-war international order. President Trump responded by expressing the US side's understanding of Taiwan's significance to China, signaling that even amid strategic competition, Washington acknowledges the sensitivity and centrality of the issue. Hopefully, the phone call between the Chinese and US top leaders, followed by another call between President Trump and Prime Minister Takaichi, has clearly conveyed China's unshakable stance on the Taiwan question to the Japanese politicians. Additionally, President Trump can demonstrate his political acumen by influencing Japan, encouraging the Japanese politician to correct her missteps. For Japan, strategic ambiguity on the Taiwan question is a shield. From Japanese politicians' perspective, an explicit acknowledgment that Taiwan is part of China may undermine Japan's post-war "security architecture" and its flexibility to maneuver in the region's shifting geopolitical landscape. However, if Japan fully implements the latest remarks, it will be seen as a blatant infringement on China's integrity of sovereignty and territory, given that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. Such statements, made on the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), are evoking strong memories among the Chinese people of Japan's military past and also remind the people of the Asia-Pacific region of Japan's wartime atrocities in the region. It is crucial for Takaichi to retract her misguided remarks, especially at this highly sensitive time, as they risk paving the way for a revival of militarism that can threaten regional peace. The author is director-general of the Institute of Japanese Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and chairman of the Chinese Association for Japanese Studies. The views don't necessarily represent those of China Daily.normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations实现外交关系正常化internal affairs内政Potsdam Proclamation《波茨坦公告》San Francisco Peace Treaty《旧金山和约》blatantly contradictory明显自相矛盾
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's refusal to retract her erroneous remarks on theTaiwan question, together with Tokyo's accelerating military buildup near China's doorstep, threatens to push China-Japan relations to a dangerous inflection point. By linking the Taiwan question to a "survival-threatening situation" and implying the possibility of Japan's armed intervention in the Taiwan Strait, Tokyo has not only touched China's red line but also shaken thepolitical foundation of bilateral relations. Takaichi's remarks encapsulate a policy orientation that contradicts thesolemn commitments the Japanese government has made regarding the Taiwan question in the four political documents between China and Japan, which leave no room for ambiguity or misinterpretation. As Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized on Sunday, if Japan persists in its own way and keeps making the same mistakes, all countries and people who advocate justice have the right to reexamine Japan's historical crimes and the responsibility to resolutely prevent theresurgence of Japanese militarism. Recent developments have reinforced the gravity of the situation. Japan's Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi has announced that Tokyo will proceed with thedeployment of intermediate-range missiles on Yonaguni Island—barely 110 kilometers from China's Taiwan region—and the rapid expansion of Japan Self-Defense Forces' facilities across the Ryukyu Islands. These moves, as Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Monday, are a deliberate attempt to create regional tension and provoke military confrontation. They come alongside Japan's first export of lethal weapons since the relaxation of arms export rules and renewed discussions within the Liberal Democratic Party on revising the three non-nuclear principles upheld by Japan and further increasing its defense spending. The Potsdam Declaration clearly prohibits Japan from rearming and Japan's pacifist Constitution establishes the exclusive defense-oriented principle. High vigilance from the international community is imperative given Tokyo's obvious intent to brush this principle aside.《波茨坦公告》明确禁止日本重新武装,而日本和平宪法确立了以防卫为宗旨的排他性原则。 The moves Japan has taken since Takaichi took office last month all demonstrate Japan is trying to break free from the bounds imposed on it by the postwar arrangement that sought to prevent a repeat of its aggression. The international community therefore has every reason to ask—what exactly is Japan seeking to achieve? China has noted Japan mentioning its "consistent position" on the Taiwan question, but as the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman asked, what exactly is this so-called "consistent position"? Can Japan fully and publicly articulate it? If Japan merely reiterates the concept of "an unchanged position", while remaining vague about its specific content and constantly overstepping its boundaries with its actions, then such reiteration is empty rhetoric. Sino-Japanese relations cannot be built on ambiguity, provocation or historical amnesia, which would only become a prelude to repeated history. The historical parallel is chilling. The use of pretexts such as "survival-threatening situation" has been a recurring tactic of Japanese militarism—from its 1931 invasion of Northeast China to the expansion of its aggression across Asia and the attack on Pearl Harbor. As the Chinese nation marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and the World Anti-Fascist War, the alarm cannot be ignored. It seems the only thing the Takaichi government learns from history is that it learns nothing from history. Japan's current stance also tramples on historical facts. For half a century, Japan forcibly occupied China's Taiwan island, inflicting enormous suffering on the local population. Taiwan's restoration to China is explicitly affirmed in the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation and the Japanese Instrument of Surrender. Taiwan is China's inalienable territory—this is not only a matter of sovereignty but also an integral part of the postwar international order. Japan is the least qualified to make irresponsible remarks on Taiwan, and any attempt to interfere will not be tolerated. The consequences of Japan's wrongful words and deeds are already emerging. The Chinese people's outrage is real, and it is affecting bilateral exchanges—from declining tourist flows and canceled flights to a reduced market for Japanese products. These are the natural results of public indignation toward provocations that harm China's core interests. If Japan truly wants "constructive and stable ties" with China as Tokyo claims, the Takaichi government must first retract the erroneous remarks, take earnest steps to honor its commitments, and stop crossing China's red line on the Taiwan question. Merely asserting that its position has not changed while acting in direct contradiction to that claim will only escalate tensions.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxQdXriEJwg Ranjeet Brar, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist) delivers the closing speech at our celebration to mark the 108th anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution of November 7th 1917. There have been many revolutions, but not all have had the same significance - because not all are able to perpetuate themselves as the new state apparatus, and create a lasting government that goes on to benefit the people in a creative and positive way, embodying the ideas of the movements and masses that brought about the revolution in the first instance. The October Revolution was such a revolution, and moreover it was a popular mass uprising against the tyranny of Tsardom and Reactionary Capitalist Imperialism that had not only created a world groaning under the weight of colonial slavery, but was drowning that world in blood in order to re-divide its markets, resources and wage-slaves among the chief imperialist powers, the Robber-Barons of finance capital. The October Revolution, in Lenin's words, broke the iron circle of imperialist ties, and the workers of all countries applauded them and supported them for their brave action - that showed the clear path forward for all workers and oppressed. "Peace! Bread! Land!" was the slogan of the October Revolution, and it was the Russian Revolution of October 1917 that brought the end of the 'great' inter-imperialist World War. This year we also celebrate the 80th anniversary victory in the Great anti-Fascist war (WW2), in which the Heroic peoples of the USSR gave 27 million lives, and the Chinese People a staggering 40 million lives in order to vanquish Fascism. Fascism was the naked aggressive terroristic dictatorship of the capitalist class - which the latter resort to when the workers rose in revolutionary temper, organisation and action - in order to suppress the workers and drown the revolution in blood. We see today, that in the face of its global crisis of overproduction, in a desperate attempt to save the moribund capitalist system, that the NATO countries, in particular the Anglo-America imperialists and EU imperialist ruling class, have resurrected fascism and are waging desperate wars against he Peoples of Russia - this time using Ukrainian Fascist strom-troops - and waging a genocidal war upon the peoples of the Middle East, notably in Palestine. They are fighting too in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Congo, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, and continue to tighten their financial and political stranglehold upon all neo-colonial countries, while attempting to subvert the socialist nations of Cuba and the DPRK, and all independent countries - notably those of BRICS, with an overwhelming strategic vision and dream of bringing down Russia and China and securing once more their 'unipolar' world order. Yet for all that, the tide of global anti-imperialist resistance is rising. We salute all who have joined this heroic struggle against NATO imperialism, and say unequivocally that British Workers too must break our chains of bondage to our ruling class and join that fight. I'm joined by Nick Zeller (https://uscnpm.substack.com/) and Craig Kafura (https://bsky.app/profile/ckafura.bsky.social) to discuss a public opinion poll carried out earlier this year and what it tells us about what Chinese people really think about China. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson has urged Japan to withdraw its remarks about the Taiwan region and give the Chinese people a clear account.
Recently, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi openly claimed at the Diet that "something happening to Taiwan" could constitute an "existential crisis situation" in which Japan could exercise the right to collective self-defense, implying a possible military intervention in the Taiwan Strait issue. On the afternoon of today (the 14th), Senior Colonel Jiang Bin, Deputy Director of the Press Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense and Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense, released information on recent military-related issues and commented on Sanae Takaichi's remarks concerning Taiwan. Jiang Bin stated that the wrong remarks made by Japanese leaders on Taiwan constitute a gross interference in China's internal affairs. They seriously violate theone-China principle, the spirit of the four Sino-Japanese political documents and the basic norms governing international relations, challenge the post-war international order, and send a serious wrong signal to "Taiwan independence" forces. Such remarks are extremely bad in nature and impact, and are highly irresponsible and dangerous. The Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China and admits no external interference. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory ofthe Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's recovery. If Japan fails to profoundly learn from historical lessons, dares to take reckless risks, or even intervene militarily in the Taiwan Strait situation, it will inevitably be badly beaten against the iron wall of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and pay a heavy price. Should the Japanese side fail to draw lessons from history and dare to take a risk, or even use force to interfere in the Taiwan question, it will only suffer a crushing defeat against the steel-willedChinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and pay a heavy price," stressed a Chinese defense spokesperson on November 14, 2025.2025年11月14日,中国国防部发言人强调:“日方若不汲取历史教训,胆敢铤而走险,甚至以武力干涉台湾问题,必将在中国人民解放军的钢铁意志面前遭遇惨败,付出沉重代价。”The Chinese Defense Spokesperson Senior Colonel Jiang Bin made the above remarks at a regular press briefing on Friday when being asked to comment on media reports that Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi recently said that if the Chinese mainland uses military vessels and other forces against Taiwan, it would cause a situation threatening Japan's survival, and the Japanese Self-defense Force could exercise the right of collective self-defense in accordance with law. The spokesperson added that the erroneous remarks on Taiwan made by the Japanese leader constitute a gross interference in China's internal affairs, and a serious violation of the one-China principle, the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, and the basic norms governing international relations. The remarks have challenged the post-war international order, and sent very wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. Such words are egregious in nature and have caused very negative impact. They are extremely irresponsible and dangerous. The spokesperson emphasized that the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair, which brooks no foreign interference. He said that this year, China commemorated the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and the 80th anniversary of the restoration of Taiwan. Should the Japanese side fail to draw lessons from history and dare to take a risk, or even use force to interfere in the Taiwan question, it will only suffer a crushing defeat against the steel-willed Chinese PLA and pay a heavy price," stressed the spokesperson at the end. the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War中国人民抗日战争暨世界反法西斯战争one-China principle一个中国原则Chinese People's Liberation Army中国人民解放军

Chinese President Xi Jinping's meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, upon request, on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea, on Friday was an opportunity for the two sides to build constructive, stable bilateral relations. Takaichi did acknowledge the importance of China-Japan relations and that the two neighbors share a responsibility to ensure regional and global peace and prosperity. And she did express Japan's desire to maintain high-level exchanges, enhance communication, and promote cooperation to advance a strategic relationship of mutual benefit, which aligns with the broader goal of fostering a constructive and stable partnership. Takaichi also said that, on the Taiwan question, Japan will abide by its position stated in the 1972Japan-China Joint Statement. However, actions must align with words. Takaichi's meeting with some "officials" of Taiwan island during the APEC meeting, and her reference on social media to one of them with the title given him by the secessionist-minded Lai Ching-te authorities, contradicted what she said. These words and deeds violate the one-China principle, the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, and the basic norms of international relations, and send a wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" forces. In the 1972 joint statement, the Japanese government stated that it fully understands and respects the stand of the Government of the People's Republic of China that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and the Japanese government firmly maintains its stand underArticle 8 of the Potsdam Proclamation.1972年联合声明中,日本政府声明充分理解并尊重中华人民共和国政府关于台湾是中国不可分割一部分的立场,并坚守《波茨坦公告》第八条所载立场。That Takaichi posted on social media photos of her chatting with the Taiwan "officials" during the APEC meeting makes her actions even more egregious in nature and in impact. China has made serious demarches and protests to Japan over the Japanese leader's wrongful comments and actions concerning Taiwan, a spokesperson for Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Saturday. In their meeting, Xi particularly stressed to the Japanese leader that the new Cabinet in Japan should establish a correct perception of China, honor the dedication and hard work by the older generations of leaders in both countries and people from different sectors of the two societies, and stay committed to the general direction of peace, friendship and cooperation. The Japanese leader's reckless move and remarks suggest that she cares little about China's core concerns, and she does not understand the essence of the four political documents between the two countries. To establish a correct perception of relations, she should review these documents as they lay out clear provisions on the Taiwan question and related history. Given the fact that Taiwan was under the colonial rule of Japan for 50 years before its return to China at the end of World War II and that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), it is remarkably insensitive and irresponsible for the Japanese prime minister to have a meeting with those of the Lai authorities. Takaichi and her Cabinet should reflect on and address these wrongdoings, take concrete measures to undo the negative impact, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, and act on Takaichi's remarks at her Friday meeting with Xi on building a constructive and stable relationship with China. As Xi said, the Murayama Statement is a serious introspection of Japan's history of aggression and makes apologies to victim countries, and its spirit should be honored by Japan. Takaichi needs to be reminded that the Taiwan question is China's internal affair and at the core of China's core interests. How it is handled bears on the political foundation of China-Japan relations. In their meeting, Xi said that the two countries should focus on the big picture, seek common ground while reserving differences, build consensus and manage disagreements, and make sure the relationship will not be defined by problems or differences. If the Takaichi government turns a deaf ear to these calls and adopts a saying-one-thing-doing-another approach to bilateral ties, it will be wasting the hard-earned opportunity to build constructive, stable bilateral relations with China. Japan-China Joint Statement《中日联合声明》 words and deeds言行Article 8 of the Potsdam Proclamation《波茨坦公告》第八条Murayama Statement《村山谈话》
Today's Episode:Where do Chinese people love to move to — and why?
People from both sides of the Taiwan Strait said that no separatist forces can erase the shared history and national identity that bind people across the Strait, as the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China was commemorated in Beijing. A grand gathering celebrating the anniversary was held in Beijing on Saturday. It marked the first Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration, following an official designation on Friday by the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress, China's top legislature. Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, addressed the event, calling on compatriots on both sides of the Strait to work together to advance national reunification and to firmly oppose all forms of "Taiwan independence" separatist activities. Wang stressed that the establishment of the commemoration day demonstrated the unwavering commitment of all Chinese people to uphold the one-China principle and safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. After the event, several guests from Taiwan said the commemoration had strengthened their confidence in the nation's eventual reunification. Justin Lin Yifu, a Taiwan-born economist and professor at Peking University, said that Taiwan's restoration to China and the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) should be remembered by all Chinese people. The course of history will not be altered by the obstruction of a small handful of people," he said, adding that the commemoration day strengthens pride in being Chinese.“历史进程不会因少数人的阻挠而改变,”林毅夫表示,“设立这一纪念日,进一步增强了我们的民族自豪感。”WuRong-yuan, chairperson of Taiwan's Labor Party, said the establishment of the commemoration day demonstrated to the world that commemorating Taiwan's restoration is the heartfelt, shared wish of compatriots on both sides of the Strait. Our shared bonds and memories cannot be severed by any external forces or separatists," he emphasized.“我们之间的血脉联结与共同记忆,任何外部势力和分裂分子都无法割裂。” Wu added that the decision provided strong legal and political support for all patriotic forces committed to advancing the cause of national reunification. On Oct 25, 1945, the ceremony to accept Japan's surrender in the Taiwan province of the China war theater of the Allied powers was held in Taipei. From that moment, Taiwan and the Penghu Islands were restored to China's sovereign jurisdiction.1945年10月25日,同盟国中国战区台湾省受降仪式在台北举行。 Shaw Kai-ping, honorary president of the association for relatives of patriots in Taiwan who fought against Japanese aggression, said it was a great honor for Oct 25 to be established as a national commemoration day. Shaw's father and grandfather both took part in the resistance against Japanese occupation. This decision shows that the motherland has not forgotten the people of Taiwan, and that reunification is destined to be achieved," Shaw said.“这一决定表明,祖国没有忘记台湾同胞,统一大业注定实现。” Chi Hsing, honorary chairman of the Reunification Alliance Party in Taiwan, said he had long awaited the establishment of the commemoration day. "As the historical truth comes to light, more and more people are gaining a clearer understanding of what really happened," Chi said. The Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council hosted a reception in Beijing on Saturday, attended by guests from both Taiwan and the mainland who had participated in the earlier gathering. Song Tao, head of both offices, said at the reception that establishing the commemoration day on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration fully reflects the will of the people and the resolve of the nation. We are confident in advancing the great cause of national reunification and enhancing the well-being of our Taiwan compatriots," Song said.“我们有信心推进祖国统一伟大事业,增进台湾同胞福祉。” Chi Hsing, publisher of The Observer magazine in Taiwan, said the decision reflects the shared aspirations of the vast majority of Taiwan compatriots. It will carry forward the patriotic tradition, reaffirm that both sides of the Strait belong to one China, and inspire pride in being Chinese," she said.“这将传承爱国传统,重申海峡两岸同属一个中国,激发民族自豪感。”她说。Ji Bin, vice-chairman of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, said the restoration of Taiwan is solid evidence of the Chinese government's resumption of sovereignty over Taiwan and a crucial link in the historical and legal chain of Taiwan being part of China. No matter how the Democratic Progressive Party and its politicians distort the truth of the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, deny the achievements of the war victory, downplay or deny the historical significance of Taiwan's restoration, and collude with external forces to promote the fallacy of 'Taiwan's undetermined status', they cannot distort or undermine the historical and legal fact that Taiwan belongs to China," Ji said.“无论民进党及其政客如何歪曲抗日战争史实、否认抗战胜利成果、淡化甚至否定台湾光复的历史意义,勾结外部势力宣扬‘台湾地位未定论'谬论,都无法歪曲和改变台湾属于中国的历史与法律事实。” In Taipei, the memorial association of the Chinese war of resistance against Japanese aggression in Taiwan and the Chinese Kuomintang party jointly held a celebration on Saturday marking the anniversary of Taiwan's restoration. Overseas Chinese from both sides of the Strait also celebrated the commemoration day in various forms. Chinese embassies in countries including the United States, Japan, Brazil and Indonesia held symposiums marking the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration on the day of commemoration. In New York City, hundreds of Chinese compatriots from both sides of the Strait gathered in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens borough on Friday to celebrate the anniversary. separatist/ˈseprətɪst/adj.

Noting the concrete progress in infrastructure and visa relaxation, he said the collaboration between the Hong Kong SAR and Guangdong province has become broader and deeper. Faster and easier cross-boundary journeys have brought about the flow of talent to cities where they are most needed, and where they are most productive," Leung added.“更快捷、更便捷的跨境出行,让人才能够流向最需要、也最能发挥其价值的城市,”梁振英补充道。The senior official expressed his firm belief in the huge untapped potential of Hong Kong's role as a "super-connector", not only within the Greater Bay Area but also in linking the region with the rest of the world. For all sectors, there are opportunities, and for all opportunities, there are windows.
