Welcome back to Flat Chat! And it's another late one thanks to various movements of people. And in the case of Codders and Autosport Grand Prix Editor Alex Kalinauckas coming back from Mexico, movements of people in the wrong direction at the wrong time… of course, Mark Gallagher joins as well! The latest edition of GP Racing magazine hit the newsstands just before the US Grand Prix as we look at who's going to be top dog at Ferrari next year, as Mark and Alex ponder what the Vettel-esque mistakes Lewis Hamilton shouldn't make as he prepares to battle Charles Leclerc for supremacy at Maranello. Elsewhere, Pat Symonds is featured as he talks about why multiple teams are struggling to add performance as the season goes on, and why McLaren has waited so long to use its latest floor upgrade. And of course, there has to be a discussion on driving standards after Max Verstappen doubled down on his aggressive defending against Lando Norris, and received 20 seconds of time penalties during the Mexico Grand Prix. How will they be adjusted ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix, and is the FIA being consistent enough with its stewarding? Today we talk about the GP weekend in Mexico City, and the monster Mad Max coming back to haunt us..
Join Brian and Patrick on the Hard Compound where we discuss the Mexico Grand Prix and this amazing 2024 F1 season. Lando Norris fighting to the last (with help from the stewards) to win his first driver's championship. Ferrari fighting to the last to win (another) Constructor's title. Fernando Alonso still fighting at 400! Great stuff. But, wait. There's more! Ferrari may not have regrets, but they should. Carlos Sainz has helped build them into a championship contender. Bringing on Lewis Hamilton next year completely changes the intra-team dynamic. Red Bull is a den of wolves and Sergio Perez is only human. Is Max Verstappen going to win his 4th WDC driving just the 4th best car?Why F1 needs permanent stewards. The aerodynamics voodoo causing so much chaos in Formula 1 from race to race. The ridiculously charmed life of Charles Leclerc. Why we should make the sprints a rookies-only event. Why shouldn't F1 drivers enjoy a smoke (or a Uncrustable) while serving a penalty? Finally, how cute was Yuki Tsunoda as a baby? Text Brian or PatrickAnd as always, thank you for listening to everybody's most beloved father and son F1 podcast!

Alex Kalinauckas and Stuart Codling wrap up their coverage of the Mexico Grand Prix, as Max Verstappen took the headlines again after receiving two 10-second time penalties for leaving the track and gaining an advantage while racing title rival Lando Norris on Lap 10. Alex and Stuart discuss the driving standards at play, team bosses Christian Horner and Helmut Marko's defence of Verstappen's actions, and what the paddock thinks of the World Champion's aggressive driving. There's also a discussion on race winner Carlos Sainz, who dominated the race en route to a 1-3 finish for Ferrari, reducing their Constructor's Championship deficit to 29 points, with Charles Leclerc nearly crashing into the wall at the final corner trying to defend from Norris' pressure. Ferrari came out on top, leaving Red Bull trailing, with Carlos Sainz taking victory and Charles Leclerc securing a strong podium finish. This impressive performance has Ferrari within striking distance of McLaren, adding fuel to the constructors' battle as the season winds down. Meanwhile, Red Bull faced a weekend full of struggles, penalties, and setbacks for both Verstappen and Perez, challenging their once-dominant standings. Round 20 of the 2024 Formula 1 Season is here! But how's it going to play out? Let's talk about it.
Ferrari scored a surprise one-two finish in the United States last week to set up another thrilling battle for this weekend's Mexico Grand Prix. The stage is set at Formula 1's highest track: Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. It sits over 2200m above sea level and is challenging for teams and drivers due to the thinner air which saps engine power and can cause altitude sickness for drivers. All eyes will be on Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull as they battle at the apex of the grid. With five races remaining, Ferrari are only 48 points behind first-placed McLaren in the constructors' standings. Bet Central's Sean Parker is joined by Mary-Anne Wakefield to preview the Mexico GP.
Welcome back to the Track Limits Podcast! Tune in with Henny, Feven, Claudia and Mikey as they unpack all the highlights from the recently concluded Austin Grand Prix. After a three-week break, F1 action resumed at the Austin Grand Prix, with added excitement thanks to a sprint qualifying and race. With multiple teams bringing significant upgrades and limited time for testing, both qualifying sessions were tightly contested. Red Bull looked strong in the sprint, with Max Verstappen topping both the qualifying and sprint race, but the main qualifying and race told a different story. Ferrari had a slow start to the weekend, but after making key adjustments before Parc Fermé, they secured P3 and P4 in qualifying, while Lando Norris and Max Verstappen lined up on the front row. After an intense Turn 1 battle between Max and Lando, Charles Leclerc capitalized on the situation, taking the race lead. From that point, Ferrari controlled the race, with both cars managing their positions effectively. The race saw heavy involvement from the stewards, who handed out penalties to multiple drivers. The most controversial moment came during a fierce late-race battle between Lando and Max. Max made a move on the inside, pushing Lando off track, but Lando regained the position by going off the circuit. The stewards handed Lando a five-second penalty, a decision that sparked debate, and ultimately allowed Max to finish P3, with Lando relegated to P4. Next up is the Mexico Grand Prix, the second race in this triple-header. With the stewards under scrutiny and the top teams fighting for the constructors' championship, all eyes will be on the action as McLaren remains within striking distance. The Mexico GRand Prix had some moments in it for sure. Max continues to believe things are all about him. Checo goes Mad Max and ruins the race for his fans. Fans go crazy and start fighting. Pick one of many things that happen in the Mexico GP. But, don't point out that Lance Stroll is still subpar. Lawrence Stroll isn't trying to hear it.

Welcome to the latest episode of Track Limits Podcast, where Henny, Feven, and Mikey with special guest Victoria share their thoughts on the recently concluded Mexico Grand Prix.Checo Perez's home race held great promise, but a series of tough races left him hungry for a strong finish. Qualifying showed his potential, yet his sole aim was a victory or a podium finish. With a spectacular start, he boldly went three-wide into the first corner, unfortunately colliding with Charles Leclerc, abruptly ending his race. A bitter disappointment for Perez, compounded by Lewis Hamilton closing in on the P2 spot in the driver championship.Teams were well aware of the track's challenges, featuring 25% lower air density and reduced downforce, demanding precise timing and balance to prevent brake and tire overheating. Race strategy emphasized tire management and brake cooling to minimize pit stops and driver errors.Mercedes, Ferrari, and McLaren executed impressive one-stop strategies (excluding the Red Flag), securing P2 for Hamilton, P3 for Leclerc, and a remarkable ascent from P17 to P5 by Lando Norris in the McLaren. Even AlphaTauri, the last-place team on the grid, showcased progress with Ricciardo finishing in P7.The next stop: the final race of the triple-header, the Brazil Grand Prix. Last year saw Red Bull's struggles and George Russell's career-defining win. Will Red Bull repeat past mistakes, or can Max Verstappen secure victory once more? Will 'plank gate' continue to be a thing as Formula 1 reaches Mexico City for this weekend's 2023 Mexico Grand Prix? Yes, we think so - and it should be so. Is Formula 1 too complex for FIA to police it fairly? And 'fairly' is the word, especially with 50% of the cars scrutineered post-race in Austin failed the test. Does this system need to evolve, and if so, what's the most fair way to do so given Formula 1's logistical schedules? In this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, Soumil Arora and Kunal Shah discuss what sets the Circuit Hermanos Rodriguez apart - and why 'altitude' will be the buzzword this weekend. The race to finish in P2 behind Max Verstappen is heating up. In the last 6 races, 4 different drivers have finished in P2. If Lewis Hamilton hadn't been disqualified in the 2023 United States Grand Prix, the number would've been 5. Also, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the 2023 Mexico Grand Prix weekend are landmark days in Formula 1 history. Btw, this will be the 1099th Grand Prix in the history of the sport. Will Ferrari's struggles in Mexico continue? Will Red Bull-Max Verstappen's dominance continue? They've won four out of the last five races. Will we see a new pole sitter for the eight year in succession? And of course, will Logan Sargeant celebrate his first Formula 1 point in Mexico? Lots to look forward to this weekend and in our 2023 Mexico Grand Prix preview podcast. Tune in! Welcome to the latest episode of Track Limits Podcast, where Henny, Feven, Mikey and Swish share their thoughts on the recently concluded United States Grand Prix. With yet another sprint race weekend, fans eagerly anticipated a display of teams striving to strike the right balance and formulate effective strategies despite their limited practice time. The race results authentically narrate the tale of some teams successfully fine-tuning their car setups while others fell short due to insufficient time. Notably, teams like Haas and Aston Martin introduced substantial upgrade packages but struggled to identify the optimal configurations for maximizing performance. In contrast, outfits like Mercedes, who introduced a new floor upgrade, witnessed a tangible improvement in their performance during both the sprint shootout and the main race. During the race itself, Lewis Hamilton appeared poised for victory, but due to strategic missteps and pitstop blunders, Max Verstappen ultimately seized the win. This race presented perhaps the sternest challenge for Max, who grappled with a braking issue and significant tire degradation, all while fending off a late surge from Lewis Hamilton. The underwhelming Sprint Race on Saturday sparked discussions about the necessity of either removing it or devising a new format to enhance the race's entertainment value. Conversely, the sprint race weekends offer fans additional trackside excitement and the prospect of surprises when top teams fail to hit the mark with their setups. As we transition to the second race of the triple-header, the Mexico Grand Prix, one wonders whether the fervent home crowd support for Checo Perez will provide him with the necessary confidence and impetus to secure a podium finish. Alternatively, could McLaren spring a surprise with a formidable performance, benefitting from the favourable track conditions and temperature suited to their car?Make sure to subscribe, review and follow us on our socials:https://www.instagram.com/tracklimits/https://youtube.com/@tracklimitspodhttps://twitter.com/tracklimits_pod/https://www.tiktok.com/@tracklimitspodJoin our mailing list to learn more about Track Limits:https://www.tracklimitspod.com/Don't forget to subscribe to our channel, hit the notification bell, and leave a comment.
