Have you ever talked about getting out of the rat race and escaping to a cabin in the woods? Youtube ‘sensation' Martijn Doolaard has done just that. He talks to Rog about his new homestead life in the Italian Alps as the first snow of winter starts to fall – that's mountain life! Martijn's a Dutch filmmaker and travel writer, with 2 projects of note, a trip in 2019 from Vancouver to Patagonia…cycling and camping solo down the west coast of the Americas entitled “Two Years on A Bike”. Prior to that he'd spent 2016 and 2017 cycling from Amsterdam to Singapore, which he summed up in his first book, aptly entitled “One Year on a Bike”. Those travels inspired him to make what so many of us dream about a reality, he purchased an abandoned dwelling in the Italian Alps, and documented his project to modernize and develop it in video. Over the course of just a year his YouTube following grew from a few thousand to nearly half a million.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

(Lander, WY) - 1330 KOVE AM / 107.7 FM's Coffee Time host Vince Tropea had Lander Assistant Mayor RaJean Strube Fossen on today's show, where she gave us further details on the Table Mountain Living Community, Lander's City owned healthcare facility. The living facility was recently approved to apply for a $987,895 infrastructure grant at the November 30th Lander City Council meeting, which would pay for sewer, water and gas power. Early estimates during the initial feasibility study put the total cost of the facility at $11 million, but is now projected at $13-15 million, which would include construction, contingencies, and one year operating costs. The facility design and construction is set to begin in June courtesy of ERDMAN, and while The Creeks Memory Support Residences had originally partnered to manage, the Lander Housing Authority will now act as the managing agency. A public competitive proposal process was followed where Vetter Senoir Living, current operators at Westward Heights, was ultimately selected as the operator of the care facility. Check out the full Coffee Time interview with Assistant Mayor Strube Fossen below, where she also gives us the background on how the facility got started, and what we can expect in the facility's future in terms of timeline. Be sure to check out Coffee Time every morning at 9:30 AM on 1330 KOVE AM / 107.7 FM, or stream it live right here.

Darla Worden is editor in chief of Mountain Living magazine and founder/director of the Left Bank Writers Retreat in Paris. A Wyoming native and life-long Ernest Hemingway fan, Worden discovered that the author spent summers from 1928 to 1939 in her home state. Her book, Cockeyed Crazy: Hemingway's Wyoming Summers With Pauline, shows Wyoming as an influential place in Hemingway's life just as Paris, Africa, Cuba, Key West and Sun Valley have anchored past works. And it casts his second wife, Pauline Pfeiffer, in a new light, as devoted stepmother, mother and wife playing a major role in Hemingway's life and work.
In this message, Dan takes ideas from the Sermon on the Mount and explores how we can live a Godly life from a firm foundation - King Jesus.

Fern Santini designs one-of-a-kind residences for a diverse group of clients across the U.S. The style of each home she helps create is driven by the unique site, the architectural style and her client's vision. Rather than apply a specific look across projects, Fern thrives on learning about each client's tastes and personal style to tailor a unique environment perfectly suited to them. She builds upon her client's affinity for art, reflects their history of travel and sometimes expresses their sense of humor. Her process involves listening to carefully reflect her client's tastes, and encouraging them to be open minded and think outside the box. This results in a completely distinctive expression true to each client.Fern works primarily on projects that are “ground up” from the initial architectural concept through to completion and move-in. This allows her to carefully compliment and accentuate the architecture and bring the interior style through to special touches outside the home. One of Fern's signature traits, which she has spoken about publicly for numerous organizations, is her commitment to collaboration amongst the entire design team. Her work style has shown that when creative, talented team members collaborate closely on a project, there is a synergy created that brings out the best in everyone involved, and provides a significant benefit for the client. Fern has worked with award-winning architects such as Paul Lamb, Mell Lawrence, Lake Flato, Gary Furman and Philip Keil, Dick Clark, and FAB Architecture. Her work has been published on the covers of Luxe, Renovation Style, and Belle (Australia), and has been featured in publications such as Milieu, Objekt International, Modern Luxury Interiors, Texas Architect, House Beautiful, Metropolitan Home, Traditional Home, Bridge for Design (UK) and Mountain Living. Her work can also be found in books such as Great Houses of Texas and Contemporary Texas Architecture. Fern has designed a custom rug collection for Kyle Bunting that delivers a contemporary twist on classic antique Turkish Oushak rugs, made from hair on hide in multiple color variations.Fern lives in her own unique environment in Austin, Texas, with her husband, Jerre Santini, two charming dogs and a stylish collection of vintage cars. Local Hearted: Asheville Artists | WNC Artists | Art Business
In this week's episode of the Local Hearted Podcast, I talk with Asheville photographer Tim Barnwell. When I decided to do a show with Asheville and Western North Carolina artists and people who have services for local artists, I thought of Tim, because he is qualified on both counts. He is a fine art photographer, and you may know him through one or more of his books. Three of them showcase portraits and other photographs that document the Appalachian heritage of farming and traditional crafts and music. Tim's other two books provide mountain peak idenfication of the views from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smokies, helping us to orient ourselves in relation to the mountains and to area attractions. And for artists, Tim provides high-quality photographs of their work, which the artists then use for submissions, publications, and reproductions. Not discussed in the interview but I wanted to mention here is that several times a year, Tim conducts workshops of benefit to artists. They are "Making Better Images with your Digital Camera" and "Basic Photo Management." I have taken both classes, heartily recommend them, and will make announcements when he runs them. In this interview, you will hear Tim talk about how he spent 25 years working on his book The Face of Appalachia. I feel he has done a tremendous service dedicating himself to preserving a slice of time, a way of life that is rapidly becoming history with all the changes our area has seen in recent years. Tim's books give us a look at what life was like for people whose families have lived here for many generations. To connect with Tim and see more of his work: SCROLL DOWN this page! visit his website at http://www.barnwellphoto.com I want to direct you to his events page here: http://www.barnwellphoto.com/book-signings-talks-and-shows and his workshop page here: http://www.barnwellphoto.com/workshops wonderful examples of his commercial work for local artists here: http://www.barnwellphoto.com/crafts and his Facebook page Links mentioned during the show: Lens Work magazine-Tim talked about how photographers can submit six of their pieces to be displayed as a small body of work in this publication. I am actually linking to the Sept-Oct 2016 Issue, because Tim's work is on the cover. George Tice, one of Tim's mentors Norton Books, publisher of his first three books Please note, there is NO link for "Mountain Living" magazine (Tim mentions that his book The Face of Appalachia started as an article for this publication). The magazine no longer exists. If you do a search, you will find a publication with the name "Mountain Living," but it is NOT the one mentioned during this interview! Highlights of this interview include: discussion of the methods Tim used to create his fine art black and white photography books as well as his motivation and inspirations for these and his vista books The Face of Appalachia--25 years in the making! the documentary book Tim is working on presently, and why he broke with his own tradition of using black and white photos for this one Tim discusses what makes a photograph a work of art and how few photographs actually qualify over the course of a photographer's lifetime Tim's ideas on why an artist should have great professional photos taken of their own work how this photographer goes out of his way to help his artist clients Other examples of Tim's Barnwell's work: Save Save Save Save Save Save Save
