Today, we're joined by one of 2024's breakout stars, Lachie Stevens-McNab. After narrowly missing the win in Poland, claiming third in Leogang, and finishing just 0.06 seconds from victory in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Lachie has become one of the year's most talked-about riders. But his journey didn't start here. A three-time BMX world champion, Lachie transitioned to mountain biking, quickly making his mark. Despite setbacks from serious back-to-back injuries, he's finally hitting his stride this season. Hear how Lachie pushed through challenges, how Loic Bruni's influence shaped his path, and what it took for him to break into the top tier. There's plenty to learn from this laidback rising star. So, it's time to sit back, hit play and listen to this episode with Lachie Stevens-McNab. You can also watch this episode on YouTube here. You can follow Lachie on Instagram @lachiestevensmcnab. The 2024 World Cup season is over. And what a whirlwind the past five months have been, with all-time racing across the board. It's a shame things have to come to an end, but the hype is already building for next year. Mont-Sainte-Anne was very par the course for how the 2024 season has gone, with wet conditions on race day. Luckily, the classic Canadian course holds moisture like a champ, and besides some slick rocks and fresh sections, it was game on. Our dude Dak was having another promising weekend, and the odds were looking good that he could close out the year with another podium. That was until a damn track pole had other plans. #polegate2024Enjoy listening to the crew discuss all kinds of nonsense, from arm pump surgeries to e-bike training for DH, Greg Minnaar's retirement, the odds of needing a work Visa to race World Cups next year, rule changes for next year, and, of course, race highlights from the weekend and overall standings. A massive thank you to everyone who listened to us banter all season—we love bringing you these conversations, and we appreciate the support!

Today, we're joined by Kasper Woolley from the YT Mob. After less than a year on a downhill bike, Kasper entered his first World Cup in Mont-Sainte-Anne and made it all the way to the finals. But his journey to this point has not been easy. Kasper has faced significant health challenges and overcome serious injuries to make a name for himself in enduro racing. We sat down at the Loudenvielle World Cup to hear Kasper's incredible story, from his early days in BMX and skiing, to discovering the health issues that were holding him back, and how he overcame those hurdles, alongside numerous injuries, to finish 7th overall in the Enduro World Cup. Kasper's journey is a testament to resilience and determination. So, it's time to sit back, hit play and listen to this episode with Kasper Woolley. You can also watch this episode on YouTube here. Did you believe the hype? Coming into the 2024 World Cup season, Asa Vermette was an obvious favorite in the Junior Men's category. He'd been fast domestically for a few years, and with the support of Frameworks and guidance from Neko Mulally and Angel Suarez, he seemed poised to have a successful debut on the international stage. Then, at the first round in Fort William, Asa waxed everyone by 6 seconds. You tack on the fact that he won after sitting on the couch for weeks prior healing a broken hip, and the hype became simple facts. The next generation is always faster than the last, and Asa is leading the latest charge. Fast forward to now, and we've been lucky to watch Asa and Max Alran exchange blows all year. Each has three wins, and Mont Sainte Anne was teeing up to be an epic final round between the two. Unfortunately, Asa's crash in Loudenvielle left him more battered and bruised than initially suspected, putting an end to his first World Cup season. A bittersweet conclusion to an otherwise successful year, we wanted to know how Asa felt about his season—the highs, the lows, the lessons learned, and the goals for 2025. We talked about a whole lot more, so enjoy getting to know more about the calm kid from Durango who's damn fast on a bike.0:00 - Intro1:37 - Why Asa isn't racing MSA4:24 - Injuries collected throughout the season5:19 - The balance of pushing and crashing8:06 - Did he feel the pressure going into the season?12:00 - Key takeaways from his first World Cup season 13:38 - Why keeping racing fun is key14:51 - Asa's pump-up music of choice 15:51 - Advice from Neko and Angel17:05 - How Asa gets up to speed and breaks down tracks21:10 - Favorite country he visited this year 22:50 - Favorite track of the year23:33 - Getting used to riding in the mud25:32 - Injury updates going into the offseason28:05 - How Asa passes the time when he's hurt 29:46 - Favorite Elite racer30:55 - Asa explains his nasty whips31:56 - Doing a flip in a race run??36:17 - Who's got the best whips?38:29 - Things to improve on this offseason40:22 - Training program chit-chat 42:21 - What Asa rides day-to-day42:04 - Asa's perfect riding day43:36 - Freestyle Asa44:52 - Winter riding plans45:48 - 2025 Goals46:49 - 5 Years from now, where will Asa be…

These awesome brands make The B Practice Podcast possible!Maxxis | Burgtec | Industry NineThe World Cup circus arrived in the U.S. two weeks ago and has provided some legendary racing! Big checks have been signed, more first-time winners have won, and World Cup overall titles have been handed out. But most importantly, our boy Dakotah Norton, aka Kubota, aka Stack Attack Dak, has been racking up the dough with a win at the Open and 3rd in Snowshoe. There was a lot to talk about, so get comfortable because we found nearly three hours of downhill-related topics to ramble on about. We open this episode by answering a question asked by Vital member kylestelzer in the comments of our Les Gets podcast that goes into how Dakotah maximizes his strengths as a racer, what he thinks are his weaknesses, and how dirt bikes are one of the biggest tools he uses to get better at downhill racing. We then discussed what Dak has done with his prize money from the last two racers, the economic state of downhill, and the value of riders in 2023. Disclaimer: if you just want to hear us talk about the Snowshoe World Cup, skip an hour into the episode. We then discuss the results of Vital's Shorts Bounty, why Snowshoe is such a difficult and unpredictable track, the rise and bright future of Ryan Pinkerton, what has led to seven winners in seven rounds (and five first-time winners), the dominance of Vali in 2023, and close things out with overall title battles going into the final round in Mont Sainte Anne, Canada. Thank you so much for listening, and we will see everybody next week for the final post-race show of 2023!

Gwendalyn is a young person who's had tremendous success and in this conversation with Michael she gets vulnerable and real, sharing her early mountain bike story as a NICA rider in the Southern California League, her collegiate career and how she bet on herself, funding her last year as an Under 23 rider overseas through a hardworking, all-in and blue-collared approach on and off the bike. Gwendalyn also shares what it was like to learn that her longtime racing sponsor was closing shop, and how she grounded herself following an early season injury that threatened to derail her entire season—to bounce forward in search of her new team for 2023. Gwendalyn and Michael relive her historic win at Snowshoe in 2022, her breakout rides at Nove Mesto and Mont Sainte Anne and how she felt signing with one of the most respected and dominant teams in the world—Trek Factory Racing. Gwendalyn is a fighter whose depth, thoughtfulness and spirited personality shines in Part One of this two-part conversation. Michael and Gwendalyn also dive into the art of visualization, mindset and the psychology of racing alongside the fastest women in the world. Gwendalyn is someone who really wants to inspire people and live a life that matters.

Two weeks ago, we attempted to record our usual post-race podcast after the 2022 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Mont Sainte Anne, but unfortunately we had issues with the recording upload. Oh, the joys of conducting a podcast with multiple people in various countries across the globe. As World Championships approaches, we decided to wait and record a pre-Worlds show, covering highlights from MSA and touching on the World Cup overall standings heading into the final round from Val di Sole, Italy. We also chat about concussion protocol, Crankworx Whistler, the dangers of World Cup spectating, who is the sickest downhill racer currently, the updated Les Gets track, and speculate on the anarchy that could follow if a French racer wins on Saturday. Enjoy!
Today on the show, we feature some of the experiences that riders in all categories had at Leadville and SBT GRVL last weekend. Payson answers listener questions about the races, including his training in the weeks leading up, using hydration packs instead of stopping at neutral aid stations, and his bike setup. He also chats with Keegan Swenson, the winner of Leadville, SBT, and the combination race ‘Leadboat' about his dominance on the gravel circuit this season and a potential move to the road. Hannah Otto, the winner of Leadville, joins Payson as well to talk about how unexpected her win was after crashing and injuring her shoulder at Mont-Sainte-Anne the weekend before. Having not ridden her bike until the day before Leadville, she had low expectations about her chance of snagging a podium let alone the win and was nervous about how the forecasted rain might affect her ability to avoid crashing. When she found herself riding solo off the front, the fact that she might come away with the win began to sink in.
It's Laurie Arseneault's second season with Canyon MTB Racing. The squad was a total powerhouse at the national mountain bike championships in July, where she took the short track event and her teammate Emily Batty won the XCO title. In August, the day after the World Cup at Mont-Sainte-Anne, Arseneault returned to her place in Bromont, Que. She had had a tough XCO competition as she faced a few mechanicals. Still, she was glad she could race in front of friends and family, and vowed to return to MSA stronger next year. In this episode, the rider from Terrebonne, Que., talks about racing, a superstition, the role of fishing in her life, the "fire in her heart" and what she's most proud of this season. (Hint: It's not a race result.) Arseneault still has two major events ahead of her for the 2022 season: the world championships in Les Gets, France, and the final World Cup of the season in Val di Sole, Italy. Before the interview with Arseneault, the Matts (Matthew Pioro and Matt Hansen) talk Finn Iles's win at Mont-Sainte-Anne, why Matthew should probably never interview Arseneault in French, swearing on a pod and at work and Matt's continuing adventures in crit racing. Also, Matthew likes Matt's humour piece. Matt treats it (too) seriously.

No feminino, a Jolanda Neff levou a melhor no XCC e no XCO.

Back in the USA, baby! Last weekend, the World Cup circus headed across the pond for the first time this season to Snowshoe, West Virginia. After years of relatively dry racing, the east coast provided, welcoming riders with plenty of rain and slippery conditions. Not many made it down without having a near-death moment (or two), and it might have been the toughest track raced in years. This week, the crew discusses Dakotah's now infamous race run inside line, how the Snowshoe track humbled the world's best racers, the tripod corner that ended a few race runs, the rise of Ronan Dunne, who is responsible for track maintenance and safety during a race weekend, result breakdowns for each class, and then they close things out with some pre-Mont-Sainte-Anne chatter. Enjoy!

Lucas Cruz races for the Norco Factory Downhill team. As a junior, he was national champion in 2018. In 2019, he was third overall in the junior World Cup series and just 0.01 seconds off the podium at the Mont-Sainte-Anne world championships. He joined the elite downhill ranks in 2020. At last year’s Crankworx Summer Series, he won the Kicking Horse Dual Slalom. Cruz seems like someone who’s always on the go. He not only races DH, but he skis, snowmobiles, hunts and rides dirt bikes. That list might only scratch the surface of his pursuits. Cruz discusses these many activities, as well as his days racing BMX, a highly influential kids program run out of Whistler and the legacy of Steve Smith. He also talks about the importance of having fun, which he really seems to take to heart.
In February, Ryan Atkins took on his Seven Summits challenge. For seven days, he climbed, virtually that is, the highest peaks on each of the world’s continents. The place where he actually gained all that elevation was in and around his home in Sutton, Que., a little more than 100 km east of Montreal. The way he climbed was on a fat bike one day, on a virtual riding platform another and on a gravel bike as well. He also ran and skied his way to the high elevations he needed to reach. You might remember hearing Atkins on this podcast more than a year ago. He and two other riders took on the Wapusk Trail, the world’s longest winter road that runs from Northern Ontario to Manitoba. He’s also been part of bike-based expeditions along James Bay and in Northern Quebec.About 10 years ago, Atkins raced mountain bikes in Canada Cups and a few World Cups, such as Bromont and Mont-Sainte-Anne. He was a world unicycle trials champion, in 2006 and 2008. More recently, he’s been focused on obstacle course racing. He’s been the World's Toughest Mudder six times, the Spartan Ultra world champion twice and the OCR world champion. He likes to push and challenge himself.Atkins’s Seven Summits challenge is, well, bonkers, especially the day he gained 6,961 m on a treadmill. That’s the height of Argentina’s Aconcagua. What attracted Atkins to this challenge with its jaw-dropping difficulty, both physically and mentally? The athlete seems to have a superhuman enthusiasm for daunting, repetitive tasks. Still, he found very cool moments throughout the challenge. They were more than just silver linings, but insights he would have never gotten otherwise. He also ate a lot of cookies and gummy bears. If you think you might want to try climbing Seven Summits yourself, you’ll hear some tips that will help you with your own bonkers challenge.
