THE WHISTLEBLOWER—I was a reporter and editor in newspapers, including Chicago Today—which had no tomorrow—the Chicago Tribune, and the San Francisco Examiner. I made a shift to magazines becoming TV critic for People, where I came up with the idea for Entertainment Weekly, launching in 1990.After a rocky launch—a story I tell in my new book, Magazine—I jumped ship for the Daily News, then TV Guide, and finally the internet at Advanced Publications. In this episode we learn how Lisa became an advocate, a professor of psychology and an author of adult and children's books on sexual assault and America's Rape Culture. In this week's episode of Next Page we sit down with Ray Murphy, US Marine Veteran, Founder of Warriors Healing Network, K9 Dog Trainer and Advocate for Ayahuasca Treatment for PTSD. Ray grew up in a violent household where he suffered physical abuse, however he escaped at 17 and joined the Marine Corp. While in the military, he spent most of his time with the a scout sniper platoon, where he learned self-reliance and confidence. After he left the military, he began BASE jumping because he grew tired of sky diving. However, these “big boy games” caused him to lose over 33 friends in the process. Ray tells us all about how the trauma of his losses and eventually the death of his dog created trauma stacking, of which he could not recover. He was diagnosed with CPTSD, however conventional measures and even ketamine didn't work, so he tried psychedelics, Ayahuasca Treatment in particular. Ray enlightens us about what Ayahuasca is, how it works and the ceremony and spiritual aspect of the treatment. According to Ray it isn't for the feint of heart, but once he completed a week of treatment, he felt lighter and finally learned to thank his traumatic experiences. We learn why he created the Warriors Healing Network and about his mission to send veterans who also haven't seen progress through traditional methods down to Costa Rica to receive the same treatment. So far they have sent two individuals (one of which was on the verge of suicide) and attained success with both. We also discuss how the mental health systems within the military are meant to keep you sick and how military personnel are treated as investments who are abandoned once they become unwell to deal with their mental health issues on their own. Ray's mission with the Warriors Healing Network is to help as many veterans and police man as he can, but he needs OUR help! We learned SO much in this amazing convo with Ray and can't thank him enough for his service to this country and to his fellow veterans. In this week's episode, Next Page hosts Missy McCall, Astrologer, Intuitive Cosmo Counselor, Near Death Survivor and Blogger. Despite growing up in a religious household and its taboo status amongst her friends and family, Missy has been practicing astrology since she was 16. Before she became an astrologer, she spent five years fighting sex trafficking in Sacramento, California and provided two houses for rescued victims of sex trafficking. However, in 2020 God had a new calling for Missy - to move on from sex trafficking, get a divorce and use her intuitive gift to help others. She tells us all about growing up as “the mean girl,” until she fell out of 3rd story window, broke her back and was paralyzed from the waist down at 12 years old. Her accident resulted in a coma and while others watched her lay in a hospital bed for two weeks, Missy experienced a Near Death Experience. Following her NDE, Missy tried to commit suicide multiple times, but was fortunately unsuccessful and ultimately gained her ability to walk again. The gang learns that Missy developed her intuitive skills when she was only 8 years old, but did not embrace them until later in life, when she became a Cosmo Counselor – a profession that helps others to read and interpret their astrological chart. Missy explains how her intuition works, how she weeds through all the “cosmic” noise, and how trauma interconnects with astrology. We also learn the difference between mainstream “astrology” (a singular sign and horoscopes) versus your astrological chart, how religion (in it's rigid form) and astrology can't co-exist and how everyone and everything is on this earth to teach us something and grow. We were absolutely fascinated by Missy and can't thank her enough for teaching us so much about the Cosmos!Book a Reading with MissyMissy's InstagramMissy's YouTubeMissy's Amazon PicksDetoxing with Your TribeMissy's Bio: Missy McCall is an Intuitive Cosmo Counselor, Near Death Survivor, and Blogger. He continued to struggle with his confidence and body dysmorphia, but Tyler did finally learn what it actually felt like to be full and how to change his lifestyle for the better. In the wake of his surgery, he started seeing a life coach who opened his eyes to a drinking problem, that he eventually kicked to the curb. After doing some serious work on himself in therapy, Tyler finally feels comfortable in his own skin and stars alongside Real Estate Mogul Glenda Baker in their podcast Glitter and Gay! There is so much juicy stuff in this episode, so make sure you don't miss out on this hilarious, inspirational and at times emotional interview with Tyler Whitman!Links:Tyler's InstagramMillion Dollar ListingThe AgencyIMBDPage SixTriplemintGlitter and Gay PodcastGlenda BakerSleeve Weight Loss SurgeryBio:Originally from the South, Tyler Whitman has been working in various roles within the New York City real estate industry for over a decade. When he moved to New York, he had a less than ideal experience working with a broker to find his first home. It was then that he realized real estate was his passion and that he could have a positive impact on helping individuals find their dream homes. Currently, Tyler works for a start-up real estate firm, Triplemint, where he is part of the founding team and developed their mission to improve the experience of buying, selling and renting homes through the increased access the firm provides. This week on Next Page, Laura and Todd sit down with the truly incredible Robin Aisha Landsong, a multiple Near-Death Survivor, Transformational Speaker, Medicine Singer, Visionary Artist, Author and Craniosacral Therapist. Robin experienced the unimaginable. At the age of 8, she was living in an abusive and neglectful home when she was abducted and taken to Rhodesia, Africa (Zimbabwe) at the height of the Rhodesian war. There she was beaten, passed off, and left for dead in the African bush. Not long after she had her first Near-Death Experience (NDE) from exposure, spent the night in a tree and eventually found her way to a village, where she was miraculously accepted by the Women and Children of the village as one of their own, despite being white. It was in that village where she was shown true love and peace for the first time. Unfortunately, that peace was short-lived. After only 4 weeks, she was shot by an African soldier, her village was attacked and most of her newly found family was murdered. Robin went on to experience two more NDE'S and after being smuggled into South Africa, she was returned to her abusive household. After many years of suffering Robin eventually found healing and realized her experiences and intuition could help others heal from their own trauma. She now now helps others heal from their own trauma through speaking, therapy, artistry and medicine singing. In this episode, the group discuss her harrowing story, as well as the neurobiology of trauma, how forgiveness shouldn't be rushed, the power of medicine songs, being receptive to healing and the impacts of inter-generational trauma. We cannot emphasize enough how powerful Robin's story is and the incredible journey she has been on; all while maintaining a positive attitude and continuing to help others. This episode is truly NOT one to miss! So please enjoy Episode 29 with Robin Aisha Landsong! This week Laura and Todd have the pleasure of sitting down with Johnny Chaillot, a Trauma and PTSD survivor, former drug and alcohol addict and ex-husband to an Olympic Gold Medalist. Johnny has such an incredible story of overcoming grief, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, addiction and divorce and his biggest hope is that his story can help others that may have experienced similar hardships. In this episode we learn all about Johnny's childhood growing up with 9 siblings in rural Louisiana. Raised by his mother and an alcoholic father, Johnny had his first drink and his first drunk at 11 years old. While he remembers a happy childhood, in his early twenties he developed a full-blown addiction to drugs and alcohol. At the age of 29 Johnny managed to get sober, come out of the closet and went on to help other gay and HIV positive addicts stay sober in the height of the aids epidemic. But that was only the beginning of Johnny's story; in the early 2000's Johnny lost his Mom to Vascular Dementia and to his family's horror, his Mother's body went missing for 8 months in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. While Johnny and his family were reunited with their Mother's body serendipitously on Mother's Day, the compounded grief of losing her, as well as his hometown, manifested itself both mentally and physically in the form of anxiety, depression and painful sebaceous cysts. Once Johnny moved to LA he realized that despite his sobriety he still needed help and was ultimately diagnosed with PTSD. We learn that as he begins to heal, he also meets his former husband Olympic Gold Medalist Greg Louganis, someone Johnny has immense respect and gratitude for and the person who has ultimately and truly helped him with his unresolved trauma. The trio also discusses the importance of mental health, the pros and cons of being in a relationship in the spotlight, personal accountability and forgiveness. Just this small synopsis of Johnny's story does NOT do it justice, so make sure to check out Episode 26 of Next Page with Johnny Chaillot out now! Hosted on Acast. McCord Henry is a hotel, food and beverage management director, a recovered alcoholic, advocate for alcohol addiction awareness, and the founder of Living Recovered and Scripted Wit. After graduating from the College of Charleston, McCord moved to LA, where he slowly developed what would become a debilitating addiction to alcohol. While attending a wedding in 2014 his family conducted an intervention and he agreed to live in a sober living house for 9 months. However, the sober living house didn't seem to focus on the real problem at hand and within a year, he was off the wagon and no longer able to maintain being a “functional alcoholic.” After losing his job due to passing out on the clock and a week-long bender, he finally reached out to his brother who sent him to the ER. McCord hasn't picked up a drink since. McCord shares with Laura and Todd the hardcore realities of alcohol addiction and the physical and emotional side effects of being an alcoholic. During his recovery, McCord became aware of his distaste for the “anonymous” aspect of Alcoholics Anonymous and the idea that he would forever live in recovery. That perspective ultimately led him to create the philosophy of Living Recovered and a desire to be open and honest about his alcohol abuse. McCord has since been compelled to give back to the rehab facility that saved him and other alcoholic awareness groups by raising money running the biggest marathons worldwide. McCord shares with Next Page how he is able to successfully run the Food and Beverage Program at the Pendry Hotel, create wine lists without taking a sip, and how his Instagram account Scripted Wit came to life through his love of quotes. McCord's story is not only inspirational, but one of extreme triumph over hardship and addiction. The three of them also discuss the pros and cons of dating while sober, learning to navigate the world without alcohol and how the support of his family and friends helped him out of the darkness of addiction. Don't miss this week's episode with McCord, who shows us what it means to truly recover! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
