Part 2 of the Lollapalooza Series is here and I'm excited to share my interviews with four first-time Lolla performers, artists and bands — all of whom have super-compelling stories to tell.First up is 22 year-old Ava Maybee, who has seen the music world from a unique perspective — her Dad is drummer Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. LA-based Ava is charming, engaging, wise beyond her years and well on her way to her own successful music career. Nico Vega, from LA, is back after a six year hiatus with a new album and a fresh perspective. While family and life things precipitated their extended break, they're back with a new album on the horizon and a fresh perspective. You'll recognize Mike Peña (bass and founding member), from his acting career (Ant Man, Narcos)!! Happy Landing is a wonderful set of musicians who started out playing backyards and basements at Ole Miss, and have since toured with The Head and The Heart and Judah & The Lion. Their latest album, Golden, is out now!!Fifteen0eight is an electronica duo that truly pushes genre boundaries to create unique, heavy, and exciting soundscapes. Both talented Berklee College of Music graduates, they bring an excitement and enthusiasm to everything they do.For more information on Roadcase: https://linktr.ee/roadcasepod and https://www.roadcasepod.comOr contact Roadcase by email: info@roadcasepod.comRoadcase theme music: "Eugene (Instrumental)" by Waltzer

This week, Leonora is absolutely honored to welcome Aja Volkman to Mothering Heights. Aja is a singer, songwriter, mama of FOUR children, a survivor, and artist in all senses. We discuss walking through a fire (in Aja's case, a very public fire) and using those experiences as fuel for our creativity, how we connect to the muse, and where she finds inspiration. Aja is a treasure and a pure heart and has weathered so much, all with grace. A great conversation. You can follow Aja's adventures on her Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/ajavolkman/ and follow her band Nico Vega on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/artist/1gUch6pcj8OKOw6kKlWAPE?si=1p1yPD48QMSREc7Qvn_wqw/ - new songs coming soon!!

You can't go home again. But you can return to the creator-owned post-apocalyptic fantasy saga that captivated comics readers for 40 twisted, beautiful issues. That's exactly what Jeff Lemire did last year with Sweet Tooth: The Return, a sequel miniseries that takes place three whole centuries after the original Vertigo series' ending. Considering that ending was perfect, does The Return need to exist? Paul and Arlo aren't so sure. They discuss what The Return adds (or subtracts) from the greater narrative, the book's alleged Twin Peaks influence, the story's many “It's like poetry, it rhymes” moments, and why you shouldn't fuck around with elephants. Plus, they start things off by chatting about why Netflix's Sweet Tooth is a great adaptation. NEXT: Eric...Sipple? Does anyone know who this is? Why is he talking to us? Oh god. Aja Volkman-Reynolds and Dan Epand spent more than ten years playing anthemic alt rock together as two-thirds of Nico Vega, and over that decade of tours, recording sessions, and label deals, they forged an artistic partnership that endures. After announcing Nico Vega's hiatus but they're back as a duo, simply named TWO. Their debut record Pull The Knife Out heralds the confident start of their new era. Sparked by Volkman's since-revoked separation from her husband (Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons) the writing process dredged up seven tracks worth of meditations on pain, reconciliation, and maybe most centrally, womanhood.
