Was J.M.

Who is West of Wonderland's favorite actor of all time? Also, what kinds of questions does the OceanGate submersible bring up for all of us with regard to leadership, let alone the news coverage of it and other fatal disasters? In a callback to our very first episode, we are taking another dive into a Disney live action remake. Fans of lewdness and vulgarity: look no further! This edition of Overlapping Dialogue, in continuing our journey through the loud and proud 1990s, spotlights two of the decade's most stylish entries with Hard Boiled and Basic Instinct. But before we dive face-first into the carnage, our Blue Plate Special sampling forces us to confront the passing of iconic (albeit fictional) TV and screen legend Rick Dalton, offer up some brief thoughts on new releases Hypnotic and Peter Pan & Wendy, and analyze from afar a host of headlines emanating from the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. After trashing Jonathan Debt (enemy of the pod) yet again for his latest spewing of excrement, we arrive to our pulpy double feature presentation: listen as we marvel at the gleeful insanity of John Woo's wild Hong Kong actioner and savor the paperback profundity intrinsic to Paul Verhoeven's direction of stars Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone. I am curious lately -- my hands pulling worm after worm out of my compost as I move the new soil from bin to vegetable garden -- about a God who might love the world enough to call plants and worms “kin.” What if we did the same? How do we gain tenderness toward the earth we live in, becoming those most passionate about seeing the earth cared for, nourished and returned to what's right? Perhaps that starts with our own hearts, with seeing the natural world as God sees it. Today we're asking the question: What if our neighbor is not only the human next door, but the living beings all around us? Peter Pan & Wendy is a fairly good movie that ultimately feels very safe. But hey, at least it's significantly less racist then the original one!
