In these crucial times, we must unite against the worrisome actions of the Trump regime as they threaten a new trade war with Canada. Ontario Premier Doug Ford, a fan of Trump, seems more concerned about public relations than the citizens of our province. His recent appearance on CNN lamenting the Elbows Up boycott of America is nothing short of hypocrisy—especially after he pushed through legislation to restrict our access to vital information and his questionable Gravy Plane purchase! The anger among the people of Ontario is palpable, and it's time for us to channel that frustration into action. On April 25, province-wide protests will take place not only in Ontario but also in Alberta, standing against the oppressive policies of Premier Danielle Smith. Join the voices of change!Tune in to the passionate discussion with Hamilton Spectator Columnist Margaret Shkimba and activist Michau van Speyk, hosted by Laura Babcock, as they delve into the importance of safeguarding our democracy. This is our moment to speak out, to demand accountability, and to protect our rights.Don't sit back while our democracy is under threat—comment, hype, subscribe, and share this vital conversation. And most importantly, get out on the streets on April 25! Your voice matters. What really happens in the hours and days after a major aviation accident and who controls the story? Todd Curtis and John Goglia discuss the issues and suffering creating when people speculate after a plane crash. To illustrate the point, they focus on a 2003 Charlotte, North Carolina Beech 1900 plane crash that drew intense national media attention. John led the NTSB field investigation, navigating not only a complex accident scene but also a storm of media speculation and aviation “experts” offering opinions long before the facts were known. John shares the inside story of several controversial decisions he made during the investigation. The airline was allowed to put out their own information. Also, raw flight recorder data was released to counter widespread misinformation. The accident itself involved a troubling chain of events: An aircraft that had just come out of maintenance with improperly repaired flight controls A flight that was overloaded and out of balance A crew that found themselves unable to prevent a stall shortly after takeoff Todd and John explore the human impact on maintenance personnel whose work may have played a role. They discuss how the aviation industry has evolved to provide psychological support and employee assistance. Gaps still exist, especially when maintenance work is outsourced to third-party providers around the world. If you're interested in aviation safety, accident investigations, and the human side of aviation, this episode offers a rare insider perspective. This episode looks at two aviation accident investigations that were highly complex for very different reasons. One is the well-known TWA Flight 800 investigation where John Goglia and Todd Curtis were both directly involved. The other is a lesser-known 2002 crash of a Cessna 208B aircraft that is the subject of a book by author Leslie Kean.John and Todd review the crash of TWA Flight 800, an investigation where John was involved as an NTSB Board Member and Todd as support for Boeing. They explore the complexity of the investigation and the efforts made to understand the accident. They highlight the massive amount of data in the NTSB Public Docket.A different kind of complexity was involved in the investigation of a Cessna 208B aircraft that lost control and crashed shortly after takeoff from Mobile, Alabama. Leslie Kean covers this investigation in her 2010 book "UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record." She calls the accident a UAP event AND Todd agrees.John was also involved in the investigation as a NTSB board member. The NTSB identified the probable cause as spatial disorientation followed by a loss of control. However, one aspect of the accident remains unresolved. Several pieces of the wreckage have red streaks that could not be matched to aviation paint used on civilian or military aircraft. Several organizations were involved in this investigation. Despite multiple analyses of the red streaks, they could not be explained. What if precognitive abilities could actually save lives? Sam Knight (New Yorker staff writer, author of the widely popular The Premonitions Bureau: A True Account of Death Foretold) joins Mayim Bialik's Breakdown to unpack some of the strangest, most unsettling questions in human experience: Can we really be scared to death? Do premonitions give us access to other timelines? Or are they evidence of a hidden, collective consciousness? Sam takes us inside the real story behind the deadly coal mine collapse that dozens of people eerily reported before it happened: a wave of psychic warnings so compelling it led to the creation of the British Premonitions Bureau, an experimental project designed to collect premonitions and prevent future catastrophes. We explore why people in the past seemed to understand extrasensory abilities better than we do today, and how head injuries have triggered sudden psi abilities in some truly bizarre cases. Sam also breaks down the most common types of premonitions, what separates accurate warnings from noise, why there aren't premonitions about positive things, the implications of so many different families and cultures sharing these inexplicable accounts, and why it's actually anti-scientific to dismiss reports of precognition altogether. Do people who experience premonitions have a moral responsibility to act on them? Could these uncanny glimpses be messages from alternate timelines, or something emerging from the depths of the unconscious mind? And the biggest question of all: Do we all have the ability to receive premonitions but we just don't know how to listen? If you've ever felt a strange sense of déjà vu, had a dream that came true, or wondered whether the future is already whispering to you…this is the episode of MBB you can't miss. Two plane crash incidents from more than half-a-century ago killed 150 people in New York City, including (1) when a B-52 bomber rammed the Empire State Building and (2) when TWA and United jets collided over Staten Island, scattering passenger bodies and debris there and in Brooklyn. Most amazing are the stories of the survivor from each separate incident.
Two people were killed Sunday afternoon when the small airplane they were on crashed near Hicks Airfield in Fort Worth, igniting a massive blaze that sent a plume of thick black smoke into the air. Several crews were dispatched to North Saginaw Boulevard following the crash. Several first responders from different agencies responded to the scene. In other news, over the past decade — as North Texas' famous economic boom has taken off in earnest — more than 700 companies have expanded their presence in greater Dallas-Fort Worth. Increasingly those D-FW campuses feature elaborate design elements and amenities — everything from specially commissioned artwork to integrated lighting sensors to restaurant-quality cafeteria offerings — that rival those of Silicon Valley or New York City. And rookie kicker Ryan Fitzgerald made a 33-yard field goal as time expired and the Carolina Panthers knocked off the Dallas Cowboys, 30-27 Sunday. Former Cowboy Rico Dowdle rolled up 183 rushing yards on 30 carries for the Panthers. He added 56 yards receiving and a touchdown. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Bloody hell, what a ride this one was. Grant Dooley took me from Melbourne’s west to warships in Shanghai, from the embassy floor during the Jakarta bombing to the guilt of changing a flight that later went down in flames. He’s worn Navy blues, translated in Chinese, raised kids under razor wire, carried survivor’s guilt, and poured it all into his memoir Bomb Season in Jakarta. This chat cracked open resilience, trauma, the weight of silence, and the relief of finally speaking the unspeakable. It’s raw, human, and full of wisdom about buckets, bombs, and not ignoring the signs your body gives you. Episode 44 of Y Chromes dives into the strange details surrounding a recent plane crash, raising questions about media framing and public distraction. From there, the conversation shifts to the challenges of parenting in a culture that discourages strength, responsibility, and truth-telling. With observations on generational softness, the value of discipline, and how to raise resilient kids in an upside-down world, this episode blends sharp takes with unapologetic honesty. It's a thoughtful, unscripted reflection on what it means to lead, protect, and let go, while staying grounded in reality.
You're on an airplane that crash lands. Smoke fills the cabin, and you've got only seconds to react. How would you respond? Would you immediately take action — or freeze in place? While you might think you know how a scene like this would play out from watching movies, the reality of what occurs in the aftermath of a disaster is quite a bit different. And that knowledge gap could prove deadly. My guest, Amanda Ripley, spent years researching how humans actually respond in emergencies, interviewing their survivors, as well leading researchers. In her book, The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes—and Why, she uncovers the myths and realities of survival psychology and explores the individual and structural factors that shape people's outcomes in unexpected crises. Today, Amanda explains why the biggest threat during an emergency isn't panic but passivity — and how to overcome the tendency to be overly complacent and compliant. We discuss why you might actually want to read the airplane safety card, what we can learn from the surprising calm that prevailed in the World Trade Center towers on 9/11, how to improve your risk assessment, what influences if you'll act heroically in an emergency, and much more. This episode will give you plenty to think about — and could even make the difference in how you respond if you're ever faced with the unthinkable.Resources Related to the PodcastAoM article on how to develop situational awarenessAoM article on why people respond passively to emergenciesBox breathingBeverly Hills Supper Club fireRick RescorlaConnect With Amanda RipleyAmanda's website
