Send us a textOnes Ready goes scorched earth on the Manda Bay attack—a tragic cocktail of leadership failure, intelligence gaps, and straight-up tactical laziness that left Americans dead and a base in flames. This isn't just a “bad day at work” story—this is what happens when we let comfort, complacency, and half-baked threat assessments set the tempo. In this episode, we dissect the 2020 al-Shabaab attack on Manda Bay, Kenya, and the damning DoD report that followed. From unmanned gates to zero reaction plans, we break down just how avoidable this disaster was—and why the term “low-risk” might as well be a death sentence. Hard truths, hard lessons, and no pulled punches.

Auckland Airport's investing nearly $150 million into a major domestic airfield upgrade. It's part of works to help enable future growth in regional flights across the country. Car parks next to the domestic terminal will be shifted to make way for four new aircraft parking stands dedicated to regional services. Airports Association Chief Executive Billie Moore told Mike Hosking it's an important move for Auckland Airport, in terms of growth. She says 40% of regional flights go to and from Auckland, so the rest of the network relies on them to increase capacity. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this episode, we dig into a chilling real-life encounter from the shadows of a forgotten WWII airfield in northern India. What began as a teenage exploration into a quiet military zone soon spiraled into a terrifying dance with forces unseen—and possibly unknowable. Dev, a 17-year-old army officer's son, believed he was alone in the darkness. What he experienced next defied logic, time, and the very boundaries of human perception. What were the invisible beings that encircled him in that pitch-black void? Why did time seem to warp around him? And why, decades later, does the static still follow him? This is more than just a ghost story—it's a warning about places we should never wander into… and the ones that never let us go.

Welcome to Independent Americans. And welcome to March. The weather is changing. It's warming up and spring is so close you can almost smell it. But instead you're probably smelling something different in the air. Something a lot less pleasant. It's a smell that's always been pervasive in Washington, DC and also on television and the airwaves. But in the last couple of years the smell has gotten out of control. It's everywhere. It comes out of random strangers at random times. You can't escape it. It's everywhere. It's bullshit. Whether it's a government shutdown, or America abandoning Ukraine, or two old men apparently nobody wants for President running for President, we are drowning in bullshit. And when you're drowning in bullshit, you've got to reach for the truth. And you're gonna get it in this episode. From Paul Rieckhoff on Nikki Haley dropping out, Biden being too old, Trump being too toxic, SecDef Austin being too slow, and much more. To include Ukraine. Tim Mak (@timkmak) is a man on a mission to find the truth. Tim is an investigative journalist with a background in politics, national security, and emergency medicine. He's the author of a book about the inner workings of the NRA, titled 'Misfire.' and he's a former U.S. Army medic and EMT. His writing has been featured in Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, The Daily Beast, Politico Magazine, and the L.A. Times. And you can hear him regularly on NPR's Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Politics Podcast. He's reported abroad from such places as Ukraine, South Sudan, Djibouti, Israel, Japan and Hong Kong. And now, he's launched his own new media venture called The Counteroffensive. He's taking people deep inside the war in Ukraine. And he joins host Paul Rieckhoff for a look behind the front lines at the people who are feeling abandoned and betrayed by America. It's a heavy dose of truth, but it's a lot better than the bullshit. If you like bullshit, this ain't your place. Every episode of Independent Americans hosted by Paul Rieckhoff is the truth beyond the headlines–and light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. It's content for the 49% of Americans that proudly call themselves independent. And it always delivers the Righteous Media 5 Is: independence, integrity, information, inspiration and impact. AirTalk is off this week, so we'll be supplying our podcast listeners with reruns of our Southern California history segments. Today's episode is on the Tustin Hangars. If you'd like to suggest a topic for a future SoCal history segment, email it to atcomments@laist.com. Orange County is still in a state of emergency after smoke and debris from the Tustin hangar fire tested positive for asbestos and other toxins last week. Tustin schools remain closed. The fire broke out at Tustin's Marine Corps Air Station early Tuesday morning, irreparably damaging one of two historic blimp hangars there. The hangars were built in 1942 to hold Lighter-Than-Air aircrafts, or LTAs, that patrolled the U.S. coastline during World War II. At 17 stories high, more than 1,000 feet long, and 300 feet wide, the hangars were two of the largest wooden structures in the world. They've been mostly vacant since the base was decommissioned in 1999, sometimes serving as a shooting location for films and commercials. Now, the north hangar (Hangar 1) will have to be demolished completely. The south hangar (Hangar 2) is still standing, but there are no current plans to preserve it. The Marine Corps community is reeling from the loss. Joining Larry to discuss the hangars' history, significance, and the fight for preservation are Brian Delahaut, retired Marine Colonel stationed at Tustin between 1983 and 1995, and Chris Jepsen, local historian and president of the Orange County Historical Society.

Welcome to Season 2 of The Flight Deck! From now on we'll be presenting podcast episodes in themed seasons, letting us explore stories from aerospace in entirely new ways. This season is all about “Curator on the Loose!” The Museum of Flight's hit webseries. With almost 4 million views, the show features our Senior Curator Matthew Burchette taking viewers into areas of the aviation industry they normally don't get to explore. If you've seen the webseries, you probably enjoy the epic interviews Matthew's scored with fascinating folks from across the country. But you probably don't realize that those interviews are greatly condensed for the tv series. We'll be sharing extended interviews, or conversations that were cut entirely for time! Did you know that airports have their own specialized fire stations? In today's episode, Matthew's taking us to the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting station here on Boeing Field. Learn the connection between the fire station and the Museum, and how the firefighters prepare to respond to an incident anywhere on the field within seconds.
