This episode is an encore presentation from the BS Free MD archives — and worth a second listen. Drs. May and Tim Hindmarsh welcome marriage coaches Dr. Jeep and Vanessa Naum back to BS Free MD for a wide-ranging conversation on what actually sustains a marriage long-term. The four longtime friends — coincidentally going through home sales and life transitions on opposite coasts — dig into the conversations couples should be having before the wedding and throughout the marriage: where to live, whose career takes priority, how many kids to have, religion, finances, in-laws, and shared interests. The Naums share personal stories, including Vanessa's sacrifice to move back to the Pittsburgh/Wheeling area so Jeep could fulfill his dream of practicing with his father, and Jeep's hard lesson in "financial infidelity" involving Thomas Kinkade paintings. The group unpacks why marriage is built on trust and commitment more than love, the importance of joint accounts and regular financial "state of the union" meetings, the power of delayed reward, the danger of losing individuality, and how to set boundaries with in-laws. With humor and candor, they remind listeners that nobody on their deathbed regrets driving a smaller car — they regret the time they didn't spend with the people they loved. Guest Bios Dr. George P. Episode topic: ADHD, sex, desire discrepancy, intimacy, communication, kink, queerness, polyamory, and what happens when libido doesn't match in relationships. Content note: This episode includes candid adult conversation about sex, desire, libido, kink, dating apps, polyamory, and sexual communication. Episode Summary What happens when one partner wants sex more than the other? What if ADHD affects libido in both directions? And what if "just do it" is actually some of the worst advice out there? In this episode, Eric is joined by Laura Jurgens, a dual-certified master relationship and intimacy coach, desire and arousal specialist, and host of The Desire Gap podcast. Laura helps individuals and couples create more authentic sexual connection, including when one or both partners are neurodivergent. Eric and Laura get into a candid, shame-free conversation about ADHD, sex, mismatched libido, desire discrepancies, rejection sensitivity, sensory needs, communication, and why so many people struggle to talk openly about what they actually want. Laura explains why desire differences are incredibly common in long-term relationships, why obligation sex can create resentment and shut down libido, and how ADHD can shape both high and low desire. She also shares how people can begin reconnecting with their bodies, practicing self-attunement, and communicating more clearly with partners. The conversation also explores sex positivity, kink positivity, queer dating, bisexuality, polyamory, ethical non-monogamy, and the importance of honest, embodied consent. This episode is frank, playful, personal, and deeply human. In This Episode, You'll Hear About Why desire discrepancy is common in long-term relationships How ADHD can contribute to both high libido and low libido Why "just do it" is terrible advice for mismatched desire The difference between sex for connection and sex for nervous system regulation How obligation sex can lead to resentment, shutdown, pain, or sexual dysfunction Why a partner can start to feel like a "tool" or "medication" when sex becomes self-regulation The role of dopamine, novelty, and hyperfocus in ADHD sexuality Why some ADHDers struggle to get out of their heads and into their bodies How stress, burnout, and nervous system activation can shut down libido Why self-attunement is a key starting point for intimacy How alexithymia can complicate emotional and sexual communication What "sex positive" and "kink positive" can actually mean Why embodied consent matters more than intellectual "I guess this is fine" consent How kink communities can model explicit communication and negotiation The risks of opening a relationship when the relationship is already disconnected Why polyamory requires a high level of trust, communication, and self-awareness Dating while bisexual, queer, neurodivergent, or exploring new relational identities How to disclose needs and patterns without using ADHD as a "get out of jail free" card Why communicating about withdrawal, burnout, and alone time matters in relationships Notable Moments / Quote Pulls "Obligation sex is the worst possible advice." "If you are trying to manage your partner's feelings with your body, that is a one-way ticket to resentment town." "Sex can become the way an ADHDer gets into their body and out of their head." "Your partner starts feeling like a tool or a medication rather than a person you authentically want to connect with." "Compatibility doesn't mean there are no differences. It means there are differences you can navigate." "Do I love the sex I'm having? That's a question a lot of people aren't even asking themselves." "Practice with the kitten to play with the tiger." "Don't yuck on someone else's yum." "You don't have to be evangelically polyamorous." In 1990, 55% of American adults reported having sex weekly. By 2024 that number had fallen to just 37%, and among adults aged 18–29, the share reporting no sex at all in the past year has doubled, from 12% to 24%. We are in the middle of a sex recession. And most of us have no idea why, or what to do about it. In this special episode of Good Is In The Details (recorded live at Podapalooza, a one-day podcast matching event) host Gwendolyn Dolske sits down with Xanet Pailet: nationally recognized sexuality educator and coach, somatic sexologist, and bestselling author of Living an Orgasmic Life: Heal Yourself and Awaken Your Pleasure, a former NYC healthcare lawyer who lived in a sexless marriage for over two decades before experiencing her own sexual healing and dedicating her career to helping others do the same. It's philosophy of intimacy, and genuinely useful psychology all in one conversation. What we explore in this episode: What's actually driving the sex recession, from smartphones and "bedtime procrastination" to the collapse of in-person socializing (young adults in 2024 spend less than half as much time with friends as they did in 2010) and what it means for our relationships. Why inadequate sex education and overexposure to pornography are creating unrealistic expectations and disconnecting people from genuine intimacy, and what healthy sexual education actually looks like. How bad early sexual experiences create lasting somatic patterns that shut people down, and what it takes to heal them. The common thread running through every healthy, intimate long-term relationship, and why most couples never talk about it. How to get unstuck in a long-term relationship that has lost its spark: practical, evidence-based, and compassionate strategies from a coach who has helped hundreds of couples. Why sexual expression is inseparable from emotional needs, and what happens to both partners when those needs go unaddressed for years. Whether you're in a long-term relationship that's lost its spark, navigating your own relationship with desire and intimacy, or simply trying to understand why an entire generation seems to be opting out of sex, this episode will give you a new framework for thinking about one of the most fundamental human experiences. About the format: This episode was recorded at Podapalooza — a live podcast matching event where hosts and guests connect in real time, no pre-research, no prepared talking points. What you hear is a genuinely spontaneous conversation. Sometimes the most honest episodes are the unplanned ones. James has been exploring non-monogamous relationships for over 17 years and has been a proud member of the kink scene for over 11. His journey has taken him around the world through many twists and turns, including a don't ask don't tell-type dynamic at the beginning, to exploring swinging and sex parties, non-hierarchical polyamory, and recently discovering his demisexuality. We dig into it all today in this wonderful interview! One of the things we absolutely love about this conversation with James is how transparent and vulnerable he is about everything he's learned over the last 17 years, including how he hasn't always done things in the most ethical way. But, like most of us, he's always trying to learn and grow along the way. James is all about community and creating space for people to explore and discover their most authentic selves. He's the co-founder of the Festival Of Alternative Relationships (F.A.R.) and co-runs The Open Circle, Australia's largest community of people exploring ethical non-monogamy (ENM). He has lived experience in almost every form of ENM dynamic and has run workshops in ENM and Lifestyle Kink (D/s) in both London and Sydney. We're sold the fairy tale from birth: find “the one,” make them your everything, and you'll live happily ever after. But what happens if that one person can't meet all your needs - or ever could? In this convention challenging conversation, sex experts Dr. Danielle Harel and Celeste Hirschman take aim at America's deeply rooted ideas about monogamy, intimacy, and what makes for a fulfilling - and lasting - relationship. Host Gabe Howard points out America's strange mix of selling sex while shaming it, and together they unpack why so many couples struggle in silence instead of having honest, non-blaming conversations about their desires. Along the way, they reveal how redefining intimacy, owning your choices, and using your “sexual energy” as a navigation system can lead to more connection, better sex, and improved mental health. Key Take-aways: Why “the one” isn't true for everyone and could set you up for failure. How monogamy, open relationships, and other structures can all work - if you choose them deliberately. Practical tips for starting sensitive sex conversations without triggering alarm bells. If you've ever wondered whether your relationship rules are helping or hurting your love life, this episode just might change everything. “So monogamy is originated in feudalist society when there was like, someone who had money and, you know, possession. We moved into needing to know who our offsprings are. And that's exactly what monogamy started, because we wanted to know where are we inheriting our money to and the church came in and religion and it started to become like a, a standard to live by. But it's not necessarily our nature and it's not necessarily what everyone should be doing.” ~Dr. Danielle Harel Our guests, Danielle Harel, Ph.D., and Celeste Hirschman, M.A., are pioneers in intimacy, sexuality, and relationship coaching. Co-founders of the Somatica® Institute, they've transformed how love and connection are taught through their experiential, science-based Somatica Method. Normalizing Non-Monogamy - Interviews in Polyamory and Swinging
Danielle and her husband have been married for over thirty years and have been exploring non-monogamy together for more than twenty of them. Danielle's husband initially brought up the idea but the concept felt intuitive for both of them so they started tiptoeing into it together. And of course, just because it felt intuitive doesn't mean that there weren't challenges and surprises along the way. This interview with Danielle is really beautiful and vulnerable as she takes us all the way back to her childhood and then through thirty plus years of marriage, raising a family, building a business, and living the hell out of life. We have powerful conversations about confronting jealousy and how it can really sneak up and surprise you, coming out to their children, how she and her husband have different preferences and desires when it comes to connecting with others, and so much more! We hope you enjoy this lovely conversation as much as we did! Danielle began immersing herself in learning about sexuality, relationships, and pleasure from a relatively young age and never really stopped... Dr. Danielle Harel is a pioneering force in erotic embodiment and personal transformation. As co-creator of the Somatica® Method and co-founder of the Somatica Institute, she weaves deep academic expertise with heartfelt presence, empowering people to awaken their desires and embrace their fullest, most authentic selves. Empowered Relationship Podcast: Your Relationship Resource And Guide
About this Episode Is sex in long-term relationships destined to fade into routine, become awkward, unsatisfying, or quietly avoided? Many couples find themselves sidestepping desire, making silent assumptions, or repeating the same old script while craving deeper connection and renewed excitement. The outcome is often sexual boredom, miscommunication, and a growing emotional distance that affects the entire relationship. What if the key to lasting passion isn't just about technique? What if it lives in courageous, ongoing conversations about consent, desire, and our evolving needs? Midlife is often a time of big transitions. Giving up alcohol can also create monumental shifts. As we move through these transitions, we sometimes leave parts of ourselves behind, and sometimes we leave others behind. My friend and fellow coach Aimee Ames has been on her own transitional journey, including going back to school to become a Functional Nutritionist, redefining her relationship with alcohol and ending a 23-year marriage. Along the way, Aimee discovered that 'you are your one true partner'. I love this saying as it reminds me of what I came to recognize in my own path: the one person who will be with you at the end, is you. I am excited to share this conversation with you. Aimee is an incredible human who shares her wisdom freely and shares the difficult parts as well. Amy also talked about her work with the Somatica Institute, training as an intimacy coach and a sex and relationship coach. Find out more in the Show Notes HERE

My conversation with Christie Watrous expands my limited viewpoint…again. We unpack what it means to connect with our bodies and each other, defining intimacy and pleasure in REAL terms. Spoiler alert: intimacy and pleasure are not always sexual and wow sometimes they are - AND it can look different than what the culture dishes up. As the founder of Embodied Life Transitions, Christie brings her personal experience of transformation and empowerment to our discussion, offering insights into reclaiming our bodies and desires. We talk candidly about our need to deconstruct shame narratives and embrace the pursuit of pleasure, which extends beyond the confines of the bedroom and into the joy of our simple daily rituals, from sipping a warm beverage to soaking in the melody of our favorite tune.Christie and I confront our individual and collective truths - from unhealthy self-concepts to narratives that frame the end of a marriage as failure.
