In this episode, I explain why it is so difficult to get on Netflix. I received this information from representatives from Netflix who have been a part of professional industry webinars, producers on Stage32, Director interviews as well as attempting myself. I also talk about strategies for improving your chances of getting on Netflix and exploring alternative streaming platform options. like KweliTV and distributors like Film Hub which are great platforms for black independent film and just independent film in general respectively. Netflix may be the holy grail but it is not the end all be all of success. You define your own success.

Lola Atkins is a scientist turned screenwriter/director under her own label EWAV Works. Lola reached out and connected with me via Stage32.com, a filmmaker's website that brings people in the industry together from all around the world that grew tremendously during the Covid lockdown. Lola is showcasing her first feature film 'PURPLE BEATZ' -- written and directed by her! She is truly motivated and talented-just check out her movie now available on demand @PrimeVideo -premiering today on October 25th, 2022 during the eclipse season. After taking a hiatus to start a family, Lola restarted her film career. Her first short 'HUSH" -- won an award at the Cannes Film Festival -pushing her to commit to her talents after such a rewarding supportive festival environment. However, the road towards a feature film was still elusive after the Cannes Film Festival award. Being at home with her kids didn't stop Lola from writing late at night as she still had many stories to tell. As the pandemic hit the world, Lola found other filmmakers also still wanted to make movies! Lola's networking and collaboration with others on previous short films helped her to find a crew to begin filming again. Through her tenacity and vision, Lola has created a truly entertaining movie depicting the 1990's London underground music scene known as drum&bass. Lola casts her stars for the movie and they have now been nominated for best actors at the I WILL TELL Festival in Florida this pass week! Congratulations to Lola and her beautiful coming of age romance film and to many many more films to come! I have found Lola to be magnanimous as she mentors and gives back to her community! I met Tristan through Stage32, a screenwriters' social media page for all artists wanting to be or working as a filmmaker. Tristan has written a book that is available on Amazon- AMARA (PORTA AD INFERNUM (The Gateway to Hell) Book 1) Kindle Edition by Tristan Hutchinson (Author), Brian Butler (Illustrator), Kara Herron (Editor), Joesph Castrogiovanni (Editor), Janice Stensrude (Editor), Meg Cuthsall (Editor) 'I live for your nightmares. You won't see me....hear me....or know me, but sooner or later I will come for you. Up from the ground, on the winds, or down from the sky. You will then see me.... you will scream.... you will die. Aaron Wolfe wakes up unsure of where he is, surrounded by a darkness deeper than night with a distinctive metallic smell he could almost taste. Using the flashlight on his phone he makes a gruesome discovery. The smell is blood coming from the bodies of people who have been ripped apart. Everywhere in the town he's in the people are all dead. A feeling deep inside of primal fear and the scent of death surrounds him. He's the only survivor in a town that's been torn apart. Trying to make sense of it all, realizing that the pervasive blanket of darkness must be blocking the electronics signal from his cell phone and afraid of what being the only survivor in a massacred town will suggest to others. He realizes he must get away from whatever is blocking his phone and reach out to his partner Jaclyn Hunsaker. He knows she will work with him to solve the mystery of who or what laid waste to the lives of every single person in town. But first he needs to get a signal on his phone..' https://www.amazon.com/AMARA-PORTA-INFERNUM-Gateway-Hell-ebook/dp/B09DTKMLGS/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3145UT2V3JVFY&keywords=tristan+hutchinson&qid=1653680674&s=books&sprefix=tristan+hutchinson%2Cstripbooks%2C78&sr=1-1 As a full time computer analyst, Tristan finds time for his writing during his spare time. Director James Kicklighter spent the first eighteen years of his life in Bellville, Georgia, population 123. Since then, he has gone on to become a multi-award winning Los Angeles-based film director and producer. His work has been recognized by the world’s press, including The Hollywood Reporter, The Times of India, Film Courage and FilmInk Australia. Kicklighter recently served as a panelist at the 2018 Oscar-qualifying Hollyshorts Film Festival, taught several filmmaking courses as an educator on Stage32.com, and his interview series with the popular YouTube channel Film Courage has nearly 200,000 views. In the spotlight of global media coverage, the first transgender woman ever to perform as Don Giovanni in a professional opera, makes her historic debut in one of the reddest states in America. The Sound of Identity is produced by Emmy Award-winning producers Russ Kirkpatrick & Andy Kinslow and executive producer Josh Bachove (Lizzie, Yoga Hosers, The Little Hours). TIn February 2020, Kicklighter completed principal photography on his multi-year documentary The American Question. Following numerous subjects since December 2016, the film examines the root of American polarization and the repercussions of eroded civic institutions, public trust and leadership. Guided by an all-star lineup of experts, including Amy Chua (Day of Empire), Colin Woodard (American Nations), Yuval Levin (The Fractured Republic) and Yascha Mounk (The People vs. Democracy), we examine the broader arc of history and discover new revelations about the shared values system that binds society together in times of triumph and turmoil. Kicklighter directs The American Question with a creative team including producer Guy Seemann, an international political consultant, and editor Carlos Puga, the Emmy-award winning producer of MTV’s “True Life,” and recent SXSW Jury Award Winner and Sundance Jury Nominee. In this episode of the podcast we take on what we consider the zenith of B-movies, The Room. A film written and directed by Tommy Wiseau, shot with his friend Greg Sestero, who went on to write the book The Disaster Artist. That book was made into a movie with James Franco playing Tommy. This episode is long, there is so much we get into. We love and admire Tommy’s passion for making this movie. We also talk about Stage32.com once again because as a creative you need to check them out and get in touch with your tribe.

Star Trek fan films have been around over four decades. They've come in all shapes, sizes, and varying levels of quality. In all that time, the copyright owners of Star Trek have remained quiet. So why has one fan film elicited a lawsuit that has the fan community in an uproar?Fan films for genre properties are extremely popular. You can probably find fan films for every sci-fi, superhero, or fantasy-based intellectual property from games to films to TV shows. And one of the most popular sci-fi franchises of all time, Star Trek, has one of the highest numbers of fan films on the internet. One of the most popular was a 21-minute short released in 2014 called "Prelude to Axanar." It has won over 45 film festivals and racked up almost 2.5 million views as of this podcast. So popular was this short, that the filmmakers raised a record-setting $1.2 million dollars from two crowdfunding campaigns to make a feature film version. Then in December of 2015, the filmmakers behind Axanar were hit with a full-blown lawsuit from CBS and Paramount, something they've never done in the 40+ years that fan films have been around. Why now has the "sleeping giant" awakened?Today on the show we talk to Robert Meyer Burnett, the director of the film (which has not yet begun production due to the suit). He talks about it origins and insight into their side of this argument. We also hear from Richard "RB" Botter, CEO and founder of Stage32, whose connections to the Hollywood machine give him an insightful POV. Show regulars JD and Yolanda Cochran chime in as well. And show co-producer Chris Huslage is back to give us some history about fan films.Support Axanar ProductionsHop on over to AxanarProductions.com if you would like to support this film and the team behind it.Share Your Story with UsFor season 2 of the show, we're looking for filmmakers with stories about overcoming great challenges to complete their projects. Steve & Allira Jaques chat with popular website Stage32 founder Richard Botto about getting into Hollywood.
Richard "RB" Botto is the Founder and CEO of Stage 32 (www.stage32.com), the world's largest social media site and educational hub for film, television and theater creatives. Botto is also a represented screenwriter, producer, actor and author. He served as associate producer on Sam Levinson's debut, Another Happy Day, which starred Ellen Barkin, Demi Moore, Thomas Hayden Church, Kate Bosworth and Ellen Burstyn and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, winning Best Screenplay. In 2014, Botto executive produced the award winning short All Things Hidden. Botto's own latest script, The End Game, is currently in development. A pioneer of the early stages of the Internet boom, Botto developed Stage 32 so creatives across the globe would have a dedicated network to find work and representation, launch projects, secure funding, further their education and make life and career altering connections. In just over 3 years, Stage 32 has organically reached over 325,000 members from every country on the planet and has been described by Forbes as "Lynda.com meets LinkedIn meets Facebook for film, television and theater creatives.” Botto has spoken all over the world at industry conferences including American Film Market, South by Southwest, Screenwriters World West and East, Great American Pitchfest, STN Convention and many more. Prior to creating Stage 32, Botto was the Founder, Publisher and Editor of RAZOR magazine, a national men's lifestyle magazine which boasted a readership of 1.5 million at its peak. A former radio host on ESPN and FOX Sports affiliates, Botto has appeared on such networks as CNBC, MSNBC, NBC News, FOX News, CBS News and VH1, riffing about the entertainment business and social media. In the 90's, Botto was an integral part of the team responsible for creating the vendor tracking system used by many of today's top e-commerce companies. Botto headed the development, design and commercial implementation for several of the top 50 most visited sites on the web during that period. Botto also serves on the Advisory Board for Old Town Music Hall, a classic film theater in El Segundo, built in 1921. Botto's book on crowdsourcing will be published by Focal Press in 2015.
