Some people change the game on the court. Others change it behind the scenes in ways most fans never see. Jerica Williams has done both. In this episode of SportsLifeTalk's You Got Next, we sit down with one of the most influential voices in girls' basketball—a former Division I player, championship-winning coach, entrepreneur, leadership advocate, and Nike Girls EYBL Grassroots Consultant whose impact is helping shape the future of women's basketball. From growing up in Southern California to earning a scholarship to UCLA before continuing her career at San Diego State, Jerica's journey has never followed the traditional path. She opens up about discovering basketball at age 10, how a simple free-throw contest changed her life, and the lessons that carried her from player to coach, executive, and one of the most respected evaluators in the sport.Throughout the conversation, Jerica shares what it takes to build winning cultures, develop elite athletes, and create opportunities for young women to succeed both on and off the court. Whether coaching at the high school level, leading programs to championships, serving on a Division I men's basketball staff, or now helping guide the Nike EYBL, her mission has remained the same—serve others and leave the game better than she found it.One of the most powerful parts of this episode centers around Her Story, the groundbreaking platform Jerica created to amplify the voices of girls and young women in sports. She explains why highlights only tell part of the story and why helping young athletes discover the power of their own voice may be even more important than their performance on the court. Her vision has become one of the most meaningful storytelling platforms in girls' basketball today.Jerica also delivers one of the most inspiring conversations we've ever had about leadership, discipline, and personal growth. She explains why motivation comes and goes, but discipline lasts, why relationships matter more than rankings, and why creating pathways for others has become her life's purpose. Then comes a deeply personal moment. Jerica courageously shares her year-long health journey after unexplained numbness, fatigue, and multiple hospital visits eventually led to the discovery of chronic iron deficiency. Her story is a powerful reminder to listen to your body, advocate for your own health, and never stop searching for answers. It's an emotional conversation that extends far beyond basketball and offers lessons everyone can benefit from.Listeners will also hear her thoughts on building the competitive standard of the Nike EYBL, evaluating talent, balancing leadership with motherhood, raising a highly recruited young quarterback, and what success truly looks like beyond wins and championships. This episode is packed with wisdom for athletes, coaches, parents, leaders, and anyone striving to make a lasting impact. Jerica Williams proves that true influence isn't measured by points scored—it's measured by the lives you help change. At SportsLifeTalk Media, our mission is to amplify the voices of the athletes, coaches, and leaders shaping the future of girls' and women's basketball. Through You Got Next, we're proud to bring you conversations with the people making a difference both on and off the court. If you enjoy conversations like this, consider supporting our 4 Quarters Program. Your $1 donation helps SportsLifeTalk Media travel to more tournaments, interview more athletes and coaches, and continue telling the stories that deserve to be heard.Subscribe to You Got Next on Spotify and Apple Podcasts so you never miss another inspiring conversation with the people shaping the future of women's basketball. Prácticamente mi hermano me crió”, dice Antonella. Yo estaba buscando a mi papá, a mi mamá y a mi hermana. No, güevón. No te miento.

On the Contacts coaching podcast, consultant and Coach Her Right founder Jerica Williams shares how basketball found her at age 10, her college path from a UCLA scholarship to San Diego State, and becoming a mom her senior year. She traces her move from assistant coaching (including Cal State Northridge) to head coaching at Detroit Country Day, where she rapidly rebuilt a struggling program and reached the Michigan State Final Four, emphasizing the head coach's total responsibility, staffing to cover blind spots, and her superpowers of empathy and communication while outsourcing offense/X's and O's. Williams discusses working with Stephen Curry's trainer Brandon Payne and later joining Mike Davis at Mississippi Valley State as one of the only active female coaches in men's basketball, highlighting the value of feminine energy in men's spaces. She explains starting Make Room For Her/Coach Her Right to amplify girls' voices, improve coaching, and address safety issues in youth sports, and she describes recently changing her belief that love is possession, reframing it as freedom.00:00 Meet Jerica Williams00:20 Basketball Found Me01:53 From Player to Coach03:48 Head Coach Breakthroughs04:14 Breaking Barriers in Mens Hoops06:15 Nike Role and Talent Pathways08:24 Assistant to Head Coach Shift09:21 Owning the Whole Program12:18 Hiring to Cover Blind Spots14:01 Empathy as Superpower15:54 Outsourcing the Offense17:58 Ego Versus Will to Win24:34 Working with Steph Curry26:08 Underrated Tour Origin Story28:30 Make Room For Her Begins30:39 Her Story Giving Girls a Stage32:16 Why Girls Quit Sports33:09 Safety Behind Not Fun33:23 Building Coach Her Right35:04 Defining Legitimate Safety36:32 Whistleblowing Coach Misconduct42:11 Ask Her Believe Her44:20 Questions Not Commands46:48 Empathy And Seeing Players48:54 Committed To Learning51:00 Make Room For Her Mission54:04 Love Is Freedom Not Possession01:00:02 Closing Reflections

Follow the escapades of two unlikely heroes and community builders in Hermit and Pig, a charmingly odd turn-based RPG. Hermit has grown comfortable in his life of solitude and foraging alongside his best friend, Pig. But the pair feel uncharacteristically called to act when they hear that a local factory has been taken over by a corporation that is firing its workers and destroying the local environment. You must help Hermit and Pig overcome numerous challenges and grow as people... er, yeah, people. We were so glad to get to chat with our friends at JK! Games! about this singularly quirky and hilarious title. Jerica and Kayla join Kate and Emily to discuss the fast-paced and engaging turn-based combat and unique dialogue mechanics. You'll hear where Hermit and Pig hit its mark, where it fell a little flat, and where it was just so outside the box that it's hard to qualify. We hope you enjoy this episode!
