Singer, actress and 00's icon, Suzanne Shaw,  joins Jamie and Tom on the podcast this week!Suzanna rose to fame in 2001 after winning UK talent show 'Popstars', becoming a member of the widely popular music group Hear'Say. After the band broke up, Suzanne established herself as a leading lady in musical theatre, as well as an model, TV presenter and actor. All by age 23. As you can imagine, Suzanne was living life in the fast lane and became very familiar with alcohol and having a good time - which the UK tabloids loved. After a couple of tough relationships, showbiz lows and coming to terms with the reality of being a single mother, Suzanne realised that booze was serving her no purpose and decided to cut it out of her life. Well she tried - and tried again - and some more - until she totally managed to redefine her relationship with alcohol for good. In this episode we explore the impact of dating an addict, the real effect of alcohol on your health and how to be kind to yourself when you have temptations to drink.Follow us on socials - https://www.instagram.com/thinkitsallsober or email us at theythinkitsallsober@gmail.com

A group who were created in 2001 via the hit ITV show Popstars.  In this conversation they discuss: How Suzanne knew, from a young age that she was born to entertain.  Her life pre Popstars.  The process of being a member of a tribute band to attending the audition process for the show. Making it into the band and the pressures of a meteroic rise.  Mental health struggles surrounding being propelled into the limelight as a teenager.  The fall from grace.  Mental illness. Lockdown and a decision to embrace sobriety.  The importance of being authentic and what it means to authentically show up.  Speaking truth to power.

In the final episode of this season Natalie is joined in the studio by singer, actress and passionate runner Suzanne Shaw to talk all about the long road to happiness & success. Discussing the key factors in overhauling her lifestyle, Suzanne reflects on the social life that can accompany performing and how alcohol consumption and a poor diet was having a detrimental effect on her mental health and wellbeing. She opens up about making the decision to quit alcohol 3 years ago and says that it was one of the best decisions she's ever made, allowing her to be more present, focussed and energised. So much so she recently completed the huge feat of running 4 ultra marathons in 4 days, a challenge she says she never would've even contemplated before going sober. As the conversation turns to social media and the age of comparison Suzanne firmly believes we need to drop the idea of perfection and slow down to genuinely live our best lives. She remarks on the six pack in six weeks, earn 6 figures in a month mentality that social media fuels and points out that it's unrealistic and can lead people to an unhealthy place of self sabotage and comparison. Elsewhere in the conversation Suzanne opens up about her thoughts and feelings towards performing, noting that now is the time for her to be passionate about new goals having achieved so much, so young, including the development of her wellbeing platform The Happy Health Club which helps its members and community find their own versions of happiness and wellbeing through expert coaching, recipes and conversations. Listen in for an honest, inspiring conversation that touches on a whole host of topics including mental health, diet, exercise, parenting and self development.

Suzanne Shaw had always been under the scrutiny of the media. Ever since she achieved chart-topping success at the age of 19 with the pop group Hear'Say, her every move was documented and analyzed. After leaving the pop industry, she remained in the public eye with a recurring role in Emmerdale and appearing on stage in London's West End. All of this contributed to her battle with mental health for many years. She felt like she could never live a normal life under the constant watch of the cameras and reporters. In 2020, Suzanne decided to make a change. She turned her lifestyle completely and started documenting her journey online. Her audience and the media were both amazed by her transformation. She had gone from an unhealthy, depressed person to an ultra-runner, plant-based eater, and sober living advocate. She has inspired hundreds of thousands of people with her story and has also helped to break the stigma around mental health. We were thrilled to have Suzanne on the latest episode of the LIFT podcast where she shared her experiences with Richard. Suzanne Shaw shot to instant fame in 2001 as part of the winning pop group ‘Hearsay' on the very first reality show ‘Popstars' in the UK. What followed was a whirlwind career. The group's debut single was the fastest selling non-charitable record in UK chart history, selling over 1.3 million copies. They went on to have 2 number one records and 4 top 10 hits. They had their own Saturday night TV show Hear'say It's Saturday, performed at the Royal Variety Show with Elton John, and headlined their own hit UK tour. When they split in 2003, Suzanne carved a successful career in musical theatre, plays and television. At the start of 2020, Suzanne spoke openly about her battle with mental health and that by making some big lifestyle changes it helped reduce her depression and anxiety. Such an in depth conversation this week with Suzanne, as Founder Glenn Marsden discusses not only a career that has seen some incredible highlights but also what comes with being thrust into stardom at such heights and so quickly. We hear about the effects it can have on your mental wellbeing and how Suzanne navigated through this period, on one hand enjoying her passion of performing on stage but on the other finding herself having to shut half of herself off due to seeing weekly articles on her private life rather than what she was there to do. We also hear all about her latest project the 'Shaw Happy Plan' in which from such an overwhelming response from her followers and the media with Suzanne documenting her own journey, she developed a movement through her social platform to help so many others worldwide with lifestyle habits and changes.  To find out more information about Suzanne and to keep up to date with her latest projects, you can find her across her social media platforms at: @suzi_shaw Be sure to also to head to the link below and make a donation as Suzanne takes on her first Marathon inn aid of raising funds for Mental Health. This week on Well Far we are chatting to Hear’say popstar, actress, former Dancing on Ice star and now fitness devotee Suzanne Shaw. For 20 years Suzanne has been hopping on and off the health wagon, something I know many of us are guilty of. But it's been in the turmoil of various lockdowns that Suzanne has finally discovered what’s helped her nix negative voices, opening up doors to new challenges and a Remarkable Lifestyle Transformation. She’s smiley, she’s confident and in her words, ‘she’s happy again’ and running has played a big part in her finding her new groove (alongside a new plant based diet and kicking some long term bad habits). Despite only having really found running in the past year Suzanne has been wooed by the runner’s high that she’s gone from her first 5K to setting herself crazy running challenges to keep her mind and body in a good place. She’s went from wondering whether she could run 5k to running 17k within a month and has really leapt trainer first into the sport. Suzanne talks about how running has helped her to know herself, the benefits that swapping to a plat-based lifestyle has given her, her desire to run a marathon - AND an ultra marathon and her mission to virtually run and cycle from John O’Groats to Lands End. A hugely inspiring and uplifting listen from someone who matches Jenni’s passion for running.

Some jobs are more social than others, and people who have social jobs often find that alcohol accompanies the social aspect of their work. That may be especially true for those who work in the entertainment industry, like today’s guest.  Suzanne Shaw auditioned for the ITV show Popstars in 2001. As a participant in the show, she won a place in the newly-formed pop band, Hear’say. The band saw great success, including two number one records and four top 10 hits, as well as their own TV show.  “At the end of the day, if you do put your mind to something and you are determined, you can achieve great things.” When the band eventually broke up, Suzanne found career success in musical theatre, plays, and television. But despite her career success, Suzanne’s life was not perfect, and in today’s episode, she talks about some of the challenges she faced over the years.  At the time of this interview, Suzanne was 95 days into her One Year No Beer challenge, and she talks frankly about the improvements in her life as she changes her relationship with alcohol as well as the difficulties of saying no to alcohol, especially during isolation in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Suzanne describes some of the changes that she’s made since giving up alcohol, like turning vegan and taking up running. And she also talks about her own podcast, The Challenge Files, where she explores some of life’s difficult challenges.  LINKS & RESOURCES  OYNB Website: https://www.oneyearnobeer.com/ OYNB Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/Oneyearnobeer/ OYNB Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/199505820380513/ OYNB Twitter: https://twitter.com/oynbuk/ OYNB Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oneyearnobeer/ SUZANNE SHAW’S LINKS & RESOURCES Suzanne Shaw on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/suzi_shaw/?hl=en Suzanne Shaw on Twitter: https://twitter.com/suzanneshaw?lang=en Suzanne Shaw on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/suzanneshawofficial

But then we got a story so unexpected, so charming, so zany, that we couldn’t possibly pass it up. This week, Human Race goes to Colorado Springs to run with donkeys. That’s right. Donkeys.  And what we found there wasn’t just a novelty club. When “you teach someone else not only how to [run with donkeys] but why to do it,” says Shaw, “That forms a more unique bond between people.” Rosco’s Runners is a club that’s had a powerful effect on the local community—as well as the people who run it.
